Blocking Wired Internet Access

Just bought an Airport Time Capsule (to replace a default ISP router), both to try and improve wireless signal and use the disk for backup. But a little surprised that the setting options seem to be less comprehensive than before. For example I gather you cannot monitor what devices are connecting to your network without a third party utility, is that right?
Also I've worked out how to limit wireless access for the kids through time settings, but I presume you cannot restrict a wired ethernet connection. Is that correct also?
Many thanks,
Peter

Open AirPort Utility
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you double click on the Time Capsule icon
A list of currently connected wireless devices will appear.  You might see the name of the device, the IP address that has been assigned to that device, or the MAC Address of the device.
I presume you cannot restrict a wired ethernet connection. Is that correct also?
Correct.  It was also not possible to restrict a wired connection using the older versions of AirPort Utility as well.

  • EA6100 AC1200 Blocking Guest internet access during specific times?

I see that you can disable guest internet access for specific times but only for specific devices. What I want to do is turn off Guest access for all devices during specific times.
I am using this in an environment  where I will have different guests at different times with different devices and can't go in to block each one each time.

I think your only option at this time is to manually disable the Guest Wireless network when wanted.

  • Wired internet access fail

    I have a WRT160N, running XP, I have:
    Reset it
    Upgraded firmware
    Downgraded firmware
    Powered down my network
    Powered down my computers
The problem is that I can use the wireless, but not the wired internet.  I am using two different computers: one wired, one wireless.  The wireless one can get online, can access the settings (192.168.1.1), the wired one can access the settings (192.168.1.1), but cannot get online.  If, however, I run the newest firmware, both can access the settings, but neither can access the internet.
Let me know what you think.
    thanks,

Check your wired computer's LAN ip address, sn, dg
Check if it has DNS, maybe it doesnt have dns.
With IP address and without DNS, you can access 192.168.1.1

  • Wired Internet Access - Ethernet "Not Connected"

    Hi,
I have a 15" MacBook Pro that is less than 6 months old that has suddenly developed a problem with the wired ethernet access. When I plug a cable into the laptop, it still says "Not Connected" for the ethernet adapter in Network preferences pane. I can assure you 100% that the networking equipment and cables work fine as I am using the cord right now with another computer to send this message.
Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this would be great.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I had the same thing happen with a Bondi Blue, and finally concluded that the port itself had failed. Since your computer is less than 6 months old, the best course of action would be to take it in to an Apple Store or AASP to have it looked at. The repair should be covered by your warranty.
    Good luck!

  • Wired Internet Access Only

if only a wired internet connection is available, is there a coverter for my IPAD2 that will allow me to connect to an ethernet cable?

There is no ethernet connection available. If there is ethernet available there should be a wifi router available.

You could use a Travel Router

  • Wired Internet Access?

Is there anyway to plug an iPod touch into a wired network? At work the WiFi is some special Cisco setup that doesn't work without a special card. I'd love to be able to just plug the iPod touch into a jack in my cube.

Fair question. Today was a good example - I was showing off my cool new toy but had no way to demonstrate browsing the 'Net or YouTube since there was no WiFi. But I had plenty of access to wired connections.
I could also see times at work where I might want to download something from the iTunes store to my touch. My work computer doesn't have (and shouldn't have) iTunes installed on it.
I admit I wouldn't have a lot of use for a wire connection but it could be handy at times. Just curious.
    Thanks,
    Rick

  • Firewall is blocking iPad internet access

    Hello,
my iPad is connected to the internet via WiFi and a DSL-Router/Modem with a build-in firewall. Unfortunately, some of the applications on the iPad have problems going through the firewall, e.g. Facetime, all of my configured EMail-Accounts or Find-My-iPad. If I turn off the firewall in the router everything works fine. Of course I don't want to to turn off the firewall. I assume the problem is, that I have to allow these services/ports to pass through the firewall. Is there any way to find out what ports these services are using, so that I can open them in the firewall?
    Best regards
    Alexander

  • Block internet access by MAC address all the time

I want to be able to block MAC addresses from accessing the internet but allow them to use the network.
I can do this in other router interfaces but the BT Home Hub 2.0 has a VERY un user friendly interface and will not allow advanced internet access or other settings to be modifyed to suit my needs.
I am at an intermediate level at understanding network equipment and an expert at residential networking.

Not sure about the home hub 2, but on the home hub 1 you can use a "user defined" firewall setting to block access to a computer by specifying its IP address.
    Source LAN
Interface 192.168.1.xxx  (address you wish to block)
    Destination WAN
    Service ANY
    Action Deny
You can tell the home hub to always use this IP address for the device you are trying to block.
There is probably a similar setting on the home hub 2.
By default I block all Internet access for devices, then I have rules to allow HTTP, HTTPS, POP3 and a couple of others.
    I also have UpnP disabled.
This prevents any computer on the network accessing any non-standard ports.

  • Safari 4 blocking internet access

When I try to access an URL that's wrong or doesn't exist Safari will block the internet access for my whole computer, Spotify, all other browsers, Mail etc.. stops getting access to the internet. Only solution is to restart Safari, and the internet access will pick up again immediately. Does this happen to anyone else out there as well?

    Hi, Juke.
I'm afraid I'm a dummy, and don't know how to do this. I'm sure as April 8 approaches, a lot of people with important DOS or XP apps will be wanting to insulate their XP VM from potential hacking while still running programs locally.

  • WRT54GS Blocking Internet Access

    Hi,
I have a WRT54GS router that constantly blocks the internet access.  Any computer (Mac or PC) is able to access the wireless network, however, no internet signal is passed through the router.  I know the internet signal works because you can connect directly to the cabel modem and the internet works fine.  When the router is connected to the modem the internet light on the front of the router blinks (as if there were data being transmitted), but still no internet access availabe.
I have tried unplugging and fully restarting both the modem and the router in every order and combination possible with no success.  The only way I can solve this problem is to leave both the modem and the router unplugged for 24 hours and then plug them both back in.  This problem/blockage only seems to occur when the router has been inactive for 2 or more days (when I leave out of town or something).
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jordan

    Start with restting your router...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • How to block internet access for RDS and RemoteApp users?

    Hi everyone,
This question might partially belong to security forum but I think anyone using RDS services comes across this. I would like to TOTALLY block all internet access including "updates" to any software, windows updates, anti-virus updates, TCP, UDP,
or ANY other protocol out of the server. I would like to only allow traffic both ways for established traffic (e.g. accessing the remote apps).
How can I achieve this without involving a third party firewall software?

  • Backup via TC w/o Internet Access?

Hi! I am looking to use my Time Capsule solely for the purpose of backing up my hard drive. I do not have any wireless or "wired" internet access. Is there a way to install/configure Time Capsule to a MacBook and use Time Capsule to back up the MacBook's hard drive on a regular basis even if the computer lacks all internet connection capabilities? If so, could you please let me know how I would go about using Time Capsule as a back-up device without any internet connection? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Chris B

    Welcome to the discussions!
You don't need an internet connection on either the Time Capsule or your computer(s) to backup using wireless or ethernet.
But, you will not be able to perform any firmware updates on the Time Capsule without an internet connection.
Follow the instructions in the Time Capsule Setup Guide and the guided setup in AirPort Utility to set up the Time Capsule and your computer. You will get a warning that the TC does not have an internet connection, but you can choose to click the "ignore" check box and all will be well.

  • Does ADFS server require Internet access?

    Hello,
I have two Adfs 3.0  server in intranet and two adfs proxy in DMZ. For the firewall setting in two adfs 3.0 server, I set the default outbound connection as block and create a custom outbound rules allow the connection to intranet.
When I add new relying party, ADFS can not verify the certification of the RP. The certificate of the relying party is wildcase cert and issued by DigiCert. I have already install the root CA cert in trusted root certification authorities of two ADFS server.
But ADFS still can not recognize the certification path. After I change the default outbound connection as allow in firewall setting, ADFS can verify the certificate. I continues the process and close internet access after user can successful login.
A few days later, user can not login. The following error log exit in ADFS log:
    Event ID 317:
An error occurred during an attempt to build the certificate chain for the relying party trust 'https://xxxx.xxxx.xxx.xx' certificate identified by thumbprint 'xxxxxxxxx'. Possible causes are that the certificate has been revoked, the certificate chain could
not be verified as specified by the relying party trust's encryption certificate revocation settings or certificate is not within its validity period.
You can use Windows PowerShell commands for AD FS to configure the revocation settings for the relying party encryption certificate.
Relying party trust's encryption certificate revocation settings: CheckChainExcludeRoot
The following errors occurred while building the certificate chain:
The revocation function was unable to check revocation for the certificate.
The revocation function was unable to check revocation because the revocation server was offline.
    User Action:
Ensure that the relying party trust's encryption certificate is valid and has not been revoked.
Ensure that AD FS can access the certificate revocation list if the revocation setting does not specify "none" or a "cache only" setting.
Verify your proxy server setting. For more information about how to verify your proxy server setting, see the AD FS Troubleshooting Guide (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=182180).
I reopen the firewall in outbound rule. then everything run as normal, user can login again.
Does ADFS require internet access for certification path checking? If I really want to block the internet access, which port I need to open in order to allow ADFS check the certificate?
    Thank you very much.

    You can run
    Set-AdfsClaimsProviderTrust -TargetName "<IDP name>" -SigningCertificateRevocationCheck None
and see if this fixes the problem (link from the event log will tell you the same thing), As Bart describes in his topic: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/47345c69-7b68-4f09-907e-43ed2805cac0/adfs-30-signing-certificate-crl-check-with-http-proxy-to-the-internet?forum=Geneva

  • WRT1900AC does not block internet access in Parental Control

Hi,My router does not block internet access on my other PC. I tryed "Always" tryed specific addresses, tryed IP addresses and everything tech support suggested. I even replaced the router at their advise. Nothing helped. I realize that the problem is not the router but probably my home network configuration, but I can't figure out what is it. To my defence, so couldn't they Does anybody have or had such a problem?Thank you

  • WRT54Gv3 Looses/Blocks Internet Access

After installing version 4.21.1 of the Linksys frimware on my router WRT54Gv3 it will loose and/or block access to the internet. It will do it at random times usually weeks apart. All the lights on the router look normal, my modem still shows a connection to the router. My computers will connect to the router wired or wireless and I can also login to the config page of the router. Visually everything looks fine. Power cycling the modem and router does not fix the problem. I have to perform a factory reset on the router before it will work again. Is anyone having this problem with v4 or below of the WRT54G router after installing 4.21.1 of the linksys firmware? My friends router does the same thing and he has v4. I have v3.
    Thanks

Well my router has always had the default IP address.
I also noticed that when the internet is being block that i can use the diagnostic tab and get a response using ping and perform trace routes.
I can also release and renew my IP info from Comcast's DHCP Server.
I've never had a signal issue with the router. I'm always able to connect to it using a wireless or wired connection. I connect successfully to the router it's that it blocks access to the internet to all the connected computers.
I'm at a loss and so it seems with Linksys tech support. I had a chat with them and they made me do a factory reset then update the firmware and then perform a factory reset again. They felt that the firmware may have been somehow damaged when I previously updated the router. I feel like my router will start blocking internet access again by the end of the month. If not I'll let you know if resetting, flashing, and resetting thing worked.
