Blocky Still JPEG Photos in FCP in Timeline and Bounce

Hey,
I'm really stuck here. I have been using final cut for the past few years always incorporating stills and PSD files to create effects for my spots. All the sudden with my HD time lines. All my Photoshop Files and JPEG files are really blocky. I thought it was a size issue (NOT) square pixels (NOT). If anyone one has any idea's please HELP!!!
Timeline Rundown
Frame Size: HD 1440x1080 (16:9)
Field Dominance Upper (odd)
QT settings: HDV1080i60 (I've Tried doing Square pixels)
100% quality
When I brind the files in they look clear in the time line but have a GREEN render above them when I render the file it becomes blurry/blocky. I am exporting using H.264 High Quality.

Is the Quicktime compression: HDV 1080i60 the codec

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

    Hi Lhughes0,
    Try these steps:
    1. Select the .jpeg file
    2. Right click on that  file and on context menu go to the last option which says "Properties"
    3. Now you will see the option where you change the program to use for opening your file
    4. Instead of Adobe Reader select Windows Photo there.
    5. Apply and say OK to it
    Give it a try

  • Jagged still photos in FCP when rotated

I tilted JPEG photos in FCP timeline, I see how the edges are rough, like jagged. Is there a better way of tilting photos and moves w/o seeing the jagged edge?
    thanks

You can also apply an edge feather to the image in FCP. Double-click it to load it into thew Viewer window, open the Crop controls and apply a setting of about 8 to 12 to Feather Edge.

  • How to upload photos to my Facebook timeline via iOS

I need to upload photos to my Facebook timeline, and appear the "via iOS".
The thing is when I try by going to my photos, albums and then share, the photos go to the iOS album, not my timeline.
I have tried the app "iPost 7", but it only makes me share status, not photos, same as siri.

    DeDeePDX,
    What is your resolution at?
    Do you have iTunes 9.0.x?
If so, the Photos tab is the very last tab on the far right when you are looking at the sync tab options for the iPhone.
You may have to adjust your resolution.

  • Comparison between Photo Deluxe Bus. Edition and current Photoshop programs?

I'm still using Photo Deluxe with Windows XP, and I know the XP emulator on Windows 7 Pro should allow PD to still work, but the next OS may not.
Can someone who's familiar with Adobe Photo Deluxe Business Edition and Photoshop tell me what current version of Photoshop will give me the same abilities as Photo Deluxe Business Edition did?  (Or will come the closest.)
If anything possible in Photo Deluxe just CAN'T be done with current Photoshop programs, could you also specify what those lost features would be?

Perhaps this will be helpful from an old thread on web.
"I transitioned from Deluxe 2 to Photoshop Elements (V. 1 and now 2) last year. I do the same kind of projects as you and really enjoy using Elements. Elements is much closer to providing the same functionality as the pricier Photoshop. The interface has less obnoxious "guide me" kinds of presentations that mar Deluxe and allows you to control the amount of application-provided help to a greater degree than with Deluxe. The only thing Elements lacks that Photoshop offers are color management and separation functions for commercial printing.
Elements also has some tricks that Photoshop doesn't, especially the Photomerge feature. This lets you stitch (or rather blend) two or more images into one. I use it a lot in scanning items that are larger than my scanner window. Also great for panoramic shots and artsy collages.
Opinion: Elements is far superior to Deluxe. The clone tool alone is worth the new software."
Note:  Believe they are now on Photoshop Elements 11, so should be even better.    Still under $100 I believe.

In Photoshop I also set Image Size to 720x480. For some reason I cant get it to match in FCP. Any idea how I an fix this?
    Thanks.

I should add that the image has transparency.

  • I´m editing a video with photos, suddenly FCP X displays the spinning ball a few seconds every time I play the Timeline

I´m in a project that is primarily composed of photos, lots of them. When I reached 10 minutes of work the spinning ball started to appear after an edit and when I try to play the timeline to see the results or preview my edit. I checked the source material and I realized that I made a begginner mistake: I had a lot of photos with too high resolution (4000x3000 for example), so I resized all photos to a more manageable size for FCP, 1024x768, and then I saw the light! FCP began to work normally again. Later I added more photos to the events folders, and when I finished the import, FCP returned to the same thing I described before. Someone has a Tip? I am working with too many photos? the video is planned to last 20 minutes, maybe I will assemble it with 400 photos, but in the events I have lots of photos, 2600 aprox, some of it referenced and others copied in the events folders. Maybe I have a lot of photos in the events folders?

I´ve have done that but does not work. I have 12 GB of RAM in a Core i3 3.2 Ghz iMac, thanks

  • How to take a still Jpeg from FCP sequence?

Hi, a client wants a still Jpeg from my timeline to use in the local newspaper. How do I get a good still image out of the Final Cut Pro timeline?
    Thanks
    Kevin

Unfortunately, you're limited to the resolution of the source video.  Load the source clip in the viewer, (you can match frame back) park it at the appropriate frame, and go to file:  export:  quicktime conversion and choose still image.   You will be limited by the pixel dimensions of the source with a dpi of 72.

  • Using Still Photos in FCP

    Hey everyone,
I'm working on a project in FCP, which is made up entirely of still images (jpgs) shot using my Canon 40D. I'm doing some panning and zooming (Ken Burns like), as well as some rapid stop motion animation sequences and compositing. I'm using a lot of photos!
I've been doing some tests and FCP is chugging hardcore, not to mention the brutal render times and everytime I move or copy something it has to prepare the display. I NEED to make this process run smoother!
I would like the final product to be HD and 16x9, but do you guys/gals think that I will need to go to SD because of the limitations of my computer (iMac intel core duo with 2gb of ram)?
    In your opinion:
    1. What sequence settings should I use to get the best FCP performance for this project? Would you recommend a particular editing time base?
    2. Will resizing my photos make FCP work much quicker?
    3. Are there any system settings in Final Cut that I should tinker with? Presently my Memory and Cache Settings are:
    Memory Usage 100% 1818mb
    Application 10% 167mb
    Thumbnail Cache Disk 8192k
Ram 512k (<---should this be 2gb, now that I have 2gbs of Ram installed)
Thank you guys/gals so much! You rule! I love you.

David, your a genius!!! You posted your reply on my birthday, and I missed it until today!
Fotomagico is devastatingly easy to use and absolutely makes me want to cry at the amount of time I wasted creating photo slideshows in FCP!
I opened Fotomagico up and created a slideshow, one that I had already created in FCP and had take me FIVE HOURS to create... in TEN MINUTES!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaah.
I couldn't believe it. I thought there had to be a catch or something. This was too easy the quality can't be there... but it was. It's amazing and I can't thank you enough for all the future hours you have saved for me.

  • Interlacing issue when zooming in on photo in FCP

Can anyone tell me why this image (picture 1) looks interlaced in FCP's Canvas window and on my NTSC broadcast monitor when in fact it isn't?
I scanned this image at 600dpi planning to zoom in on the photo in FCP, so I know it's not a low resolution issue.
In FCP, when I zoom in on the image it looks totally interlaced:
Please see picture 1 (interlacing issue) here in my web gallery and compare with Picture 2.
    http://gallery.me.com/nicholasnatteau#100222
I have no idea what's causing this. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    - Nicholas
PS: I'm working in an NTSC DV sequence.

    Hi David,
Thank you very much for your help. Yes, I did render the timeline. Nothing in the sequence was left unrendered. Is the problem that my resolution is too high? Should I diminish the size of the still by 50%?
Picture 1 was scanned using "descreen" filter and picture 2 using Auto Tone only. I used a Canoscan Cannon 8800F scanner. That's as much as I know. I wonder if I did something wrong scanning the image or is there something I should have done in Photoshop prior to bring the still into FCP?
Did you notice the horizontal line issue in Picture 1? I'm not sure how to describe it, but Picture 1 looks to me like there some interlacing issue going on.

  • Pan/Zoom of Jpegs & Tiffs on FCP: not smooth, bad resolution, artifacts..?

I'm running FCP 6 on an old G5 with 2Gigs of Memory. I'm trying to manipulate still photos for a personal project and the quality is not good. Simple zooming often causes a "stuttering" of the image during movement. The images are not sharp & clear and there is a moire effect as the scan lines of the picture zoom. Certain pixels sometitmes seem to take on a life of their own-showing intermittant black and white pixel frame-long dropouts.
I've applied de-interlace, deflicker, gauzian blur, all to no avial-and the pictures get blurred.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions?

FCP does a lousy job if there is massive scaling involved. Best to resize in Photoshop to the smallest pixel dimensions that will work with your movements.
    Stay away from jpegs.
fwiw - re image flickering -
The flickering is an artifact of the interlaced nature of video. It is a result of very thin (often horizontal) elements that exist on one scanline as is common in text or titling. This can also be the case in images with great deal of detail with high contrast as well as when when you are engaged in pan/zoom moves on stills.
As the alternate fields play, the flashing element is essentially being turned on/off. The basic strategy is to get the element to exist over two scanlines so it is refreshed every time the field plays or to reduce the amount of contrast so the difference between ON and OFF is not noticeable.
Before you start any of these steps listed below, make sure you are viewing your material on an appropriate monitor. If you are working in an NTSC/PAL interlaced format (eg DV) you need an external TV monitor - not a computer screen. Without the appropriate device, you are playing blind.
Things to try (In increasing order of image degradation)
    • (in FCP) field order>none
    • (in FCP or Photoshop) reduce whites by 10% - reduces overly bright areas
    • (in FCP) flicker filter - minimum
    • (in Photoshop) motion blur>vertical> .2 - .5 pixels - blurs vertically only
    • (In FCP or Photoshop) Gaussian blur> .2 - .5 pixels -blurs both horizontally as well as vertically
    • (in FCP or Photoshop) deinterlace - throws away half the image and is generally not appropriate on scanned images
*Remember: Unless you are viewing your work in the appropriate external NTSC/PAL monitor, you are playing blind.* The computer monitor only shows you a proxy image.
One final thought, if you have slowed your material significantly, and have not used some sort of frame blending/optical flow processing, you may be simply duplicating frames to create the additional material to pad the playback. The flashing/stuttering you see is the result of this.
    good luck.

  • Jpeg photos look fuzzy - do you know why?

    Hi,
I've imported several jpeg photos into FCE and put them in my timeline. When my playhead is over the picture, the image looks perfect in the canvas window, but when I hit play, the picture in the canvas window gets fuzzy regardless of whether the image has basic motion or is just still. Any ideas how to fix this problem?
The render status bar above the photos is green, so I don't think I need to render them.
I really appreciate all the help you all have given me so far and that you're reading this now - thank you!
    Lisa

Green means it needs to be rendered for output. You're watching a lores playback. Render it and look at the output on a video monitor.

  • Import jpegs to timeline and they appear green

    Hello,
I import a jpeg into my browser. When i click on it, the still image appears in my viewer. However, when i drag the jpep into my timeline it appears green. What am i doing wrong?
My timeline settings are at NTSC as i have to mix the still images with video. When i test a new sequence set at Jpeg, the same thing happens.
How do i solve this issue?
    Thank You

You get a render green line in your timeline when your clips don't match your timeline. Either for codec or framerate or size. The framerate of a jpeg being <1, FCP has to render...
