Blog alias corrupting metadata.plist

Has anyone encountered an issue with the blog engine incorrectly redirecting from a user's alias to their account name? When someone tries to read a blog from an alternate alias, it does not redirect but instead it removes the weblog string in the metadata.plist in /Collaboration/Users/~ which renders the blog unavailable. I either have to manually edit the plist or have the user "create my blog" to correct this.
This only affects users with multiple aliases and the users ACLs are enabled in server admin for the blog service.

Hi,
we have the problem of disappearing blogs as well - till now I had no idea whats going on. I can confirm, that logging on to the wiki with an alternate username (alias) removes the weblog string and the blog becomes invisible.
We do not have to define any ACLs for blog service to see this behavior.
Regards,
Matthias

  • Itunes and corrupted metadata

I have a BIG problem.  I don't know how it happened, but my itunes librairy is all messed up.  Even the songs in the folders are messed up.  I have iTunes match and now even it is messed up.
Is there a way to revert the itunes match "match"?  Is there a way to clean up the floders or the metadata?
    Thank you for your help.

Sorry for the lack of details.
Basicaly, I think that my itunes librairy has been corrupted and because I have check to let itunes to organize my folders in the folder iTunes Media, Itunes has reorganize my songs in the music folder.  I have attach a picture.  I'm in the Arcade fire folder and you can see that it has other songs in that folder.  I have about 5500 songs.  I'm looking for a way to reorganize the songs in albums folder.
If I could return in a past library in iTunes match, I would redownload the songs.
Let say I have a folder

  • Corrupt backupd plist files

I'm having problems with Time Machine (it's backing up every interval, even when I have it set to "off") and it looks like some of my /System/Library/LaunchDaemon/com.apple.backupd*.plist files are corrupted.  I've done some research and others have said that these files will not be recreated if I delete them, which begs the question of how I can get a default set of plist files for Time Machine.  I'm really hoping I don't have to completely reinstall the OS.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Nate

Did you use Time Machine Editor or a similar product to alter Time Machine's built-in schedule?  If so, that's likely the cause.  Those apps alter files that Time Machine doesn't want or expect to be altered, so it's still doing the last thing it was told.
If so, use the same app to set Time Machine back to the defaults (hourly backups, auto backups, backup upon disc connection, etc).  If you no longer have the app, reinstall it.
Then you should be able to manage Time Machine from the preferences window.
As a last resort, your best bet will be to reinstall OSX (that doesn't affect anything else), then download and install the "combo" update, per Installing the ''combo'' update and/or Reinstalling OSX.

  • Help. moved my files and got corrupted metadata

I moved a large file of photos from an external disk to my internal disk.Something weird happened to the serial number in my metadata. I now have hundreds of serial numbers that appear to be gobbledygook. Is there any way of fixing this? Thanks for your help. Andy

The camera serial number is embedded but the edits (color correction, tone control, cropping, etc.) you made of that photo are only in the LR database unless you exported those edits to XMP.
Prior to loading the library you can check it for corruption. Try that and see what happens. If it's still a problem the next step is to remove one of the affected photos from LR. Then reimport it to see if the serial # is still screwed up. It shouldn't be.

  • Is there a solution yet to the corrupt metadata in pictures? Wich is causing to not be able to rotate pictures

I read there is a solutions to open and save every single picture. I hope this is not the solution.

Yes it is exactly the thing that a standard windows functionality or the windows photo viewer doesnt "recognises" the metadata. In my opionen is metadata a standard wich shouldn`t matter on wich operation system you are working on. Some parts are implemented in systems, other not. Like the same thing with MP3`s.
If I strip the metadat with 3rd Party software like you said Paulcb, will other data also be lost like the locations and time stamps who are on the metadata of the pictures, or is there a solution to the problem you are aware of KiltedTim that repairs the metadata so every system can read out the metadata.
It`s also strange that only the 4S has this issue what I read on the net.

How do I renew the integrity of the info.plist file (ideally without screwing everything else up)? Or is something else at work here?

I don't know. It might help if you told me what the message was, and what was the "failing" message you mentioned earlier?
How is it you are now able to install Messenger? Did you repair the disk? Did you download a new copy?
One thing you can do is to open the Console application, from your Utilities folder, and have console.log in one window and system.log in another. Use the "broom" to clear both windows, then try to start a chat session. When it quits, there will be a message in one or both of the console windows.
Copy and paste what you get from these windows (and say which is which). I need to see the exact message to take this further.

I went on a hunt for plistlib.py but it does not exist in the /plat-mac/ folder as listed in the log. There are however two other files plistlib.pyc and plistlib.pyo
I’m really not wanting to rebuild the entire server over this, I assume I’m just not reading something in these logs maybe some better trained eyes will see.
    Thanks

PS: will the powers at be get angry if I send this through the server mailing list as well, perhaps the wiki mailing list if such a thing exist?

Hey Everyone - a quick update. A very helpful friend gave me a hand figuring this out turns out the wikid process was failing because of a blog plist file. Replacing the metadata.plist files for all the users (whom had blogs in the collab data store) along with all the metadata.plist files for the groups as well got the service back up and running. When I say replace, I mean we renamed them all metadataplist.old and the system rebuilt the files and then loaded up without crashing.
I'll try and better document this whole issue (with more research into the cause) and update this for anyone facing this in the future.

  • Wikis and blogs are currently disabled..... but I enabled them.

Brand new Xserve, Server version: 10.5.2
I'm going out on a limb here and admitting that I have no idea what I'm doing. My employer bought into the "so easy a non tech person can do it" idea and bought an xserve to have wikis and blogs. The idea is to have one web page with links to departmental wikis and blogs.
I set it up as an Open Directory Master, created four dummy user accounts in Workgroup Manager, a Group called Blog and put those four dummy users into that Group.
Back in Server Admin, I enabled web services and started it. The default Apple provided default home page shows up fine when I go to the ip address in a browser window. Went back into Server Admin, chose the site I just added, clicked the Sites button, clicked Web Services and enabled blog, wiki and blog, calendar, clicked Save. Stopped web service and restarted it.
When I open the page in a web browser I get the Getting Status.... and then it says wikis and blogs are disabled, use server preferences (I can't find that anywhere) or Server Admin to enable. I thought I did enable it in the web services pane.
Any advice besides head for the hills?
    Thanks in advance.

    Changing the owner/group of wikis...
The Apple website for OS X.5 Server includes a basic primer on command line editing, you should go through it. That aside, you will need to know your administrative (root) password to accomplish this, if not, you won’t get past the first ‘su’ command. The following instructions assume you are using a completely ‘default’ setup and not trying to have your collaboration folders on another file system or anything tricky.
(FYI- as far as I know, none of the instructions I will put into the quotations will include the numeral one, they are all lower case “L”’s if it’s hard to read in this font.)
    1. Open the Terminal and drag the window as big as you’d like. Type “su root” and enter your root administrative password. Be very careful from this point forward as you can do a lot of damage.
    2. Type “cd /library”
    3. Type “ls -l”
    4. Look for the line which lists “Collaboration” in the right-hand column, it should read something like: “drwxrwxr-x 6 _teamsserver _teamsserver” in the first few columns. Everything should match except perhaps the number ‘6’. “teamsserver” is both the owner and the group for this directory.
    5. Use the same command to check each of the owner and group on the subdirectories and files of the subdirectories - they should all be owner and group of _teamsserver. Following is an example from my server, note that I do not precede the “collaboration...” with a “/”, this is because I am already inside the “library” directory.
    sh-3.2# ls -l collaboration
    total 8
    drwxr-x--- 4 _teamsserver _teamsserver 136 Apr 22 20:12 ArchivedGroups

    total 0
    drwxr-x--- 7 _teamsserver _teamsserver 238 Apr 22 20:12 welcome.page
    6. If you noticed any of these owners or groups showing something other than _teamsserver then perform the following command which will change the owner and group for the entire directory structure of /libaray/collaboration. (NOTE: Upper/lower case IS important here! NOTE: “teamsserver” has two “s”’s in it!):
    chown -Rv teamsserver:teamsserver /library/collaboration
If done right, you should have a list of directories and subdirectories spit back at you.
This may only solve some of your problems, if you have more, check out the discussion “Topic : Wiki - No group with that name hosted on this server?” where I posted a fairly lengthy set of instructions to solve a different wiki problem last night.
    Good luck!

  • Wikis and Blogs

I'm having some troubles getting wikis and blogs to work on my newly installed 10.5 server. Wikis were working until I ran out of disk space on the server. I have since cleared plenty of space and updated to the latest version. However, I still am getting the 503 Service Unavailable error. I've looked through the discussion forum for help and haven't been able to resolve the problem. I have pasted below the lines from the wikid error log.
As for blogs, I simply can't get them to work. I have them enabled yet I keep getting a message that says they are not for my web site. If I keep the web site folder on the boot drive, I get the "Weblogs are not enabled for this server." message. If, however, it is on a different drive I get a page not found error. I am trying to access the blogs by http://domain/weblog. Is that still the correct way to do it? I'm wondering if I'm missing some configuration step for the blogs.
Here's the wikid error log part that seems odd to me:

First, let me take on the easy one. To get to weblogs, you need to go to http://domain/users/ as that is where user weblogs are now.
For your other, more pressing issue, the log file you pasted in tells me that the metadata.plist file for a particular group was incompletely written when your disk filled up. The simple thing to do would be to load up the metadata.plist file for each group in the Collaboration root folder (by default /Library/Collaboration/Groups/<groupname>/metadata.plist in a text editor and make sure it looks like a plist file. When you find the bad one, I'd recommend you remove the metadata.plist file as it will automatically regenerate a default one for you.
Let us know if this doesn't work for you.

  • Missing Selection in Lightroom 3.2, Metadata

In the local Lightroom 3.2 Documentation it indicates that the options for the Library, Metadata, Options include …
Home / Using Photoshop Lightroom 3 / Organizing photos in the catalog / Viewing and editing metadata
    View photo metadata
In the Library module, the Metadata panel displays the filename, file path, rating, text label, and EXIF and IPTC metadata of selected photos. Use the pop-up menu to choose a set of metadata fields. Lightroom has premade sets that display different combinations of metadata.
With one or more photos selected in the Grid view, or with a single photo selected in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view, choose any of the following from the pop-up menu at the top of the Metadata panel:
    Default
Shows the filename, copy name, folder, rating, text label, and a subset of IPTC and EXIF metadata.
    All
Shows the filename, copy name, file path, rating, text label, and all EXIF and IPTC metadata.
    All Plug-In Metadata
Displays custom metadata created by third-party plug-ins. If you don’t have any plug-ins installed, filename, copy name, and folder are displayed.
    EXIF
Shows the filename, file path, dimensions, and EXIF camera metadata such as Exposure, Focal Length, ISO Speed Rating, and Flash. If your camera records GPS metadata, the information appears as EXIF metadata.
    EXIF and IPTC
Shows the filename, size, type, location, metadata status, as well as all EXIF and basic IPTC metadata.
    IPTC
Shows the filename and basic IPTC metadata: Contact, Content, Image, Status, and Copyright metadata.
    IPTC Extension
Shows the filename and IPTC metadata for model and artwork releases and other types of licensing rights.
    Large Caption
Shows a large caption edit box and the copyright box.
    Location
Shows the filename, copy name, folder, title, caption, and location fields.
    Minimal
Shows the filename, rating, plus Caption and Copyright metadata.
    Quick Describe
Shows the filename, copy name, file path, rating, and the following EXIF and IPTC metadata: Dimensions, Date Time, Camera, Title, Caption, Copyright, Creator, and Location.
In the Metadata panel, if an IPTC metadata field displays an arrow, clicking the arrow is a quick way to find and view all photos containing the specific metadata.
If multiple photos with different metadata settings are selected, the metadata fields display <mixed>. To show the metadata for the photo that’s targeted (active) within the selection, choose Metadata > Show Metadata For Target Photo Only. If more than one photo is selected in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view, the Metadata panel displays metadata only for the active photo.
The 3.2 version of lightroom does not include the ALL choice. Is this correct?
    Thanks

The All option does appear to be missing in 3.2 (not sure if it was in 3.0 or not).  In any case, I usually develop my own templates manually.  You can also try out the plug-in at: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-presets which should generate the desired template (including an "all" template) if you so desire.  I am not related to this developer but you might take a look at his site for other plug-ins that might benefit your workflow.

  • Frontrow quits opening movies files on my airdisk via alias

    Hi,
I store my divX files into a folder on my airdisk. In my "Movies" folder on my MBP I have an alias folder that points to that folder on my airdisk, so I can watch the files that aren't on my HD.
On Tiger it worked perfectly: if the airdisk was mounted I started Frontrow and I could watch my divx stored on the airdisk.
Now, with Leopard, I can't. I see the files listed on the frontrow menu (but no video preview on the left), and after some seconds Frontrow quits, without opening a divx. It "sees" the files because it shows the files name, but that's all.
I tried making a new folder alias, deleting frontrow .plist, but that's was useless. Can I fix it or I have to wait for a leopard update?
    Thank you.
PS. I have a lot of "small" bugs like this on Leopard

Are you talking about Frontrow via Airdisk? It works fine for me now, without flickers.
Sorry. Is't it your airport low signal? Or too high bit rate divx files from airdisk? I think you should do some tests about it.

  • Safari History Corrupted

Here's the problem: I've already loaded Safari with bookmarks, so I've been using my browser history as a substitute to keep track of sites. Now, the history is gone. Specifically, the "History.plist" file in ~/Library/Safari is corrupted and crashes nearly any application that tries to open it.
Open Safari without removing its corrupted History.plist file, and Safari quits with error message. Try to import Safari's history into Firefox, and Firefox quits with error message. Try to import Safari's history into a modified version of Firefox called Flock, and Flock becomes unresponsive. Attempting to open the History.plist file with TextEdit, or with Bare Bones Software's TextWrangler causes both of those to quit with error message and/or "Crash Reporter" warning.
So far, the only application I've found that can actually process the corrupted History.plist file is Microsoft Word, which can, after selected the "recover text from any file" option, return a bunch of gobbledygook which contains many if not all of my precious URLs, floating in a sea of garbage.
Is there any way I can convert that gobbledygook into a valid preferences file that Safari can handle without manually copying and reentering every single URL?
Apple Care won't help me because the computer's long since out of warranty; I'm using Safari 4.1.1 on OSX 10.4 Tiger, on a G4 eMac. The Genius Bar might be able to help if I bring the computer in, but I'm trying to avoid bringing in my machine in light of the eMac's rather tremendous shipping weight.
PS— The version of TextEdit on my laptop can open the corrupted History.plist file, and returns much the same gobbledygook as Microsoft Word. I'm not sure what version that is or what the difference is; the laptop is a 2008 MacBook running OSX 10.5 Leopard on an Intel Core 2 Duo.

    HI,
because PlistEditPro isn't registered, but it's not very helpful either.
If it's not helpful, delete PlistEditPro from your Mac. Third party preference file utilities on a Mac aren't necessary. Save yourself any further headaches.

  • Lightroom - metadata auto-save vs. export

    Hello!
I understand that with auto-save XMP metadata on, most of an image's Lightroom changes will be auto-saved with the original photograph file whereever it may be.
However, what I don't understand is whether when you export from Lightroom (not export a catalogue/folder, but export an image/some images) whether or not the Lightroom changes (e.g. brightness contrast, saturation, etc.) are considered part of the 'metadata' referred to in the export window.
Afterall, if you are exporting JPEGs, for instance, you are rendering the final (not the original), so why would you want the Lightroom changes metadata because you can't use the Lightroom changes XMP data to go from a final to go back to an original image, can you?!
    Thank you!
p.s. This article (http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-wrangler) indicates that the XMP CRS block is automatically include with the Lightroom export window, right?

When you export an image the metadata and develop settings are written to the files XMP header. However, the develop settings are for reference only i.e. they are seen but not acted upon by applications such as Bridge. For example, if you open an exported JPEG with develop adjustments into Camera Raw  it will show all the sliders at zero rather than the values in XMP. The reason being that the JPEG is already fully rendered file, the develop settings in XMP cannot be undone without creating a completely new file.
Metadata and develop settings saved to XMP differs in that the file has not yet been rendered with the develop settings. So, opening the file in Camera Raw show the sliders at the same values as written into XMP.
p.s. This article (http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-wrangler) indicates that the XMP CRS block is automatically include with the Lightroom export window, right?
    Yes

  • Metadata for Camera flash strength etc?

    Hi
Anyone else feel Adobe Lightroom could be improved by importing more detailed metadata from the camera, for example:
Identifying the point of focus used (as many camera backs do)
Flash strength, direction, distance to focus point etc
For example I am trying to develop a sense of the capabilities of a new Flash unit for a Canon 7D, and find it a pain to have to manually record all the settings I am altering and then match them back against the test shots. Why not let the software do the work?!
    Thoughts?

    Yes.
