Blog reintroduction issue in iWeb,09

In iWeb,09, as you know we can create blogs. But, where is the problem?
The problem is that when ever we add a new blog entry the template text and graphics gets reintroduced, such that we have to remove that if we don't want it on each new blog entry we add.
What is a WORKAROUND on this?
Thanks.

entry the template text and graphics gets reintroduced
1. Select the text and start typing. You have to do that anyway.
2. Select the graphic and hit the delete key.
And yes, I know, doing that will waste 2 seconds of your life.

  • Photo file issues with iWeb and Aperture....also too much duplicating!!

A little background, before I get into my iWeb issue.....
Years ago I tried iPhoto, but I didn't like how it duplicated all my photo files and I wasn't very fond of the file structure it created. Years later (last month) I got Aperture. Aperture (still has a long way to go) also duplicates all your files and places them in their own file structure. If I can get along with Aperture (and if it will get along with my other programs), I won't mind putting all my files into the file structure it creates. But for now, I still have my original files in the original file structure I have had for many years as a back up.
On to my issue with iWeb and Aperture....
To add photos to iWeb, you can either go into the iWeb media center or you can drag and drop photos from other locations.
    1st: iWeb media center
To get my photos into the media center, I would have to load them into iPhoto (iP 6 does allow you to keep your original file structure, but it still creates .jpg files, which fills up your hard-drive. More duplicates I don't need or want). So that is out for me. iP6 will let you view and use your Raw files.
Another way is to drag and drop your file structure directly into the media center window. I don't think this duplicates any files (at least I haven't been able to find any), but it takes an awfully long time to thumbnail all your photos (several hours and still waiting for 22K + files). Also, it won't show any Raw files. Again, out for me.
Aperture won't let you drag and drop its library into the media center at all. So if I was to move all my files into the Aperture Library, I wouldn't be able to access them for iWeb at all.....Out for me.
    2nd: Drag and Drop
I was able to drag and drop Raw files directly into iWeb from C1 Pro, Adobe Bridge and Adobe Lightroom.
As I said before, I am trying to move over to Aperture. However, Aperture won't let me drag and drop photos. What is the deal here??? These are both Apple programs and they won't play nice with each other. Very annoying.
Anyway, I put a link below to my iWeb test webpage I made. All the photos were Raw files that I did a drag and drop from C1 Pro, Adobe Bridge and Lightroom. There were no problems with the publishing.
    http://web.mac.com/phil_navarro/iWeb/Site%202/Drag%20and%20Drop%20test.html
So, does anyone know if they can get photos from Aperture to work?? Thanks for any responses.

    Jedi,
    Perhaps you are right.
I am not a web developer and I will never be. I don't feel like spending countless hours learning how to use Dreamweaver or some other Pro web app. iWeb looked like a way to start making websites of my photos for my friends and family (much easier and better than Home Page on .Mac). All I was asking was for a way to drag and drop my photos (especially Raw files) with Aperture. Which I can do with Lightroom, Adobe Bridge and C1 Pro, and without using iPhoto.
I am not a Pro photographer either, but I purchased Aperture based on what was advertised on the Apple website. From that ad, Aperture fit my photo needs almost to a tee. I am looking to adjust Raw files, Crop, Archive and keep my use of Hard Disk space down to a minimum. I can use Photoshop for the other 5% of things I do. However, Aperture has some issues (if you own it, then you already know. If you don't, you can read the Aperture Forum) This is one of the reasons I never went to iPhoto for archiving. I didn't like the way it duplicated all my files, taking up more disk space and its file structure. So even though Aperture won't play nice with other programs, I was surprised that it wouldn't play nice with any Apple programs.
After reading your post and based on what you are saying, everyone either needs to have/learn/use Pro apps only or have/learn/use iApps only. Don't Cross the Streams!!
I guess that means Apple will need to fix DVD Studio Pro. It uses photos that are in your iPhoto library and music from iTunes (iApps in a Pro app??....for shame...."it was never intended"). Also, DVD SP won't read the Aperture library. Does that mean there are 3 platforms? Pro, iApp and Mediocre??
    Now I have 2 questions:
    1. Can someone please tell me which apps are Pro and iApp, or if there is Mediocre? I don't want to mix them up and "Cross the Streams".
    2. Again....is there anyway to use Aperture with iWeb?
    TIA,
    Narvon

  • IWeb 08 blog posting issue using Cyberduck

Tried to upload a blog page to my website and get the words "blog summary widget" where the content should be. I see it's been noted as a problem in other MAC communities but I haven't yet read a satisfactory resolution.

Is the blog page online now? I don't see it if it is. I don't have a lot of experience with iWeb blog pages (or any blogging pages for that matter) but do know these are the iWeb features that will be lost using the iWeb blog on a non Mac server:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ *Blog and photo comments*
    ◼ *Blog search*
    ◼ Hit counter
    From iWeb 3's Help file
When opened locally, the file is fine
If the blog page displays OK when you publish to a folder and look at it locally then the issue is with the uploading. What are you using for an FTP client? If it's not the free Cyberduck you might try downloading and using it. It's well recommended here in the forum.

  • Strange issue with iWeb site, please help

    Hi everyone,
Until recently, I've been keeping an iWeb blog of my time in India. Nothing too complicated, just stories and photo albums. However, recently something strange has happened, and the website is no longer displaying correctly. It looks fine in iWeb, and when I publish it in a folder and open it locally, everything is fine. However, after uploading it to my hosting provider, it looks like this:
    http://www.egbertopreis.nl/India/
(screenshot of what it looks like here: http://egbertopreis.nl/website_screenshot.PNG )
This is a screenshot from iWeb of what it should look like: http://www.egbertopreis.nl/iWeb_screenshot.png
I'm using the 'darkroom' theme, but as you can see, something is clearly wrong. It is not displaying the menu correctly, the layout looks strange and it isn't loading any of the articles. The other pages are accessible if you navigate there directly, but there you have the same problem.
It looks like, for some reason, the CSS and javascript elements cannot be loaded, although I have no idea why this might be the case. They are all just static files, and it worked fine until about a week ago.
Although I'm an IT professional, I have literally no idea what could cause a problem like this. I went with iWeb because I wanted to use an 'easy' solution and not over-engineer something for once
Usually what I'd do in a situation like this, is just purge the whole site and re-upload it. However, since I'm traveling around, I don't have fast internet access anywhere and the site is now so large that it would take forever to completely re-upload. This is also the reason why I can't troubleshoot it properly myself...
Any help (or even words of encouragement :-)) whatsoever would be extremely welcome. Thanks in advance!

    Edit: Forgot to mention what I already tried myself;
    - deleted the HTML and XML files and let iWeb do 'publish changes'. Everything was re-uploadeded, but issue remained.
    - Deleted the 'Scripts' folder on the remote host, and manually re-uploaded from locally published folder. No effect.
    - Tried randomly changing layout items in the hope that any potentially corrupted files might be overwritten after publishing. No effect.

Hi Roddy, thanks for your reply. It wasn't just me though; a lot of other people from back also reported the same issue. I was also getting the same thing from behind a wired connection. You can still see and experience the issue yourself if you look here.
I've since 'resolved' the issue by getting a .Mac trial account. A friend helped me move the whole blog over there, where the site works as it is supposed to:
    http://web.me.com/eggmeister/India/
Therefore the issue has to be with the hosting. Right now I'm suspecting it might be some obscure configuration issue with the hosting company's server. Maybe something like too low a setting for Apache's 'MAX REQUESTS'. This might cause issues with all the javascript going on in the iWeb pages, loading elements back and forth. I'm in contact with the hosting provider, and will let you know what I find. Might be useful for future reference.

    1) Images don't load
    2) in IE 8 : HTML email snippet does not show up
    How can this be resolved?

  • Blog entry issue

Does anyone know if the new iweb fixes the problem of limited blog entries? I have read many other people having this same problem with not being able to add a new entry unless an older one is deleted.
Ours has been this way for a while.
    http://web.mac.com/enchantedimages/iWeb/Enchanted%20Images/Enchanted%20Blog/Ench anted%20Blog.html

This seems totally illogical to me, because if the picture is in the body, the footer should come after the body. I should have to extend a footer to have an entire picture in the body show up.
Either way, i obviously did it (because all your other advice is accurate), and of course it works....sort of.
Okay, so now i CAN see the entire picture, however, Next and Previous still show up mid way through the picture. yet in the editor they are under the picture. SO, i thought i'd just drag them down a ways and sort of gage how much extra space is needed. So in the editor there would be a huge gap under the picture before these arrows show up. Unfortunately, this didn't work, the next and previous buttons still who up mid way over the picture. GAH?
Is there a fix for this? I haven't really bothered playing around with it, 'cause i spent soo much time last night trying to figure out why adding another blank page caused all my other pages to alter.
Thanks for your help on all my issues Ethmoid!

  • Blog topic list on iWeb

On my iWeb blog summary page, I would like to display a menu of topics that simply lists blog post titles along the side of the page like on blogger or wikispaces. Is this an option on iWeb? It could even be a small-scale duplicate of the archive listing page. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for following up. I settled for the archive link, but I don't think it is user-friendly to not offer the menu..
I tried adding a widget to my page that displays the titles of my posts by pulling from the RSS feed. Problem is, the RSS feed isn't working correctly and no matter what you click on, you get redirected to my home page. Argh!
I think I'll post a new issue about the RSS. I've been trying to find troubleshooting tips for a few days now and it looks like I'm the only one with this problem. See widget here: http://web.mac.com/jill.shaheen/Jill/Recipes/Recipes.html

  • Blog page issues in IE

I'm using iWeb and .mac to create a video game website. I put the game reviews and description on my blog pages. Recently people have informed me that they can only see half of my review page when using Internet Explorer. I have tried 3 different PCs and ran into the same problem. They were able to view them before, but for some reason now IE chops the page. I can view the pages just fine using Firefox on the PC. I had the ability for visitors to leave comments, but removed it thinking that was the cause. No luck with that one. Could somebody HELP!!

  • Blog like alternative for iweb for postin new material?

I'm a little shocked I didn't think of this until now but on my website the main page is broken down into 2 columns. The main column works just like a blog where pictures are posted to stories and it's suppose to be updated almost daily. Problem is that the main page holds about 9 stories so i made a page navigation then new page to hold the older stories. Problem with this is every time I add a new story, i have to move all the old ones down one little notch. Now Im up to 3 pages and it's getting pretty tedious so i need an alternative fast.
My first though was Wordpress. I made a page and just published the story pictures like blog posts. Its really nice because wordpress auto shifts everything for you and has its own page navigation. Then I figured I could just use an iframe and html snippet and be done.  Unfortunately If i click a link in the iframe it just changes the whole iframe to that specific page in the iframe.
Has anyone else found a way around this. Heres the wordpress link: http://tittymungus.wordpress.com/
and here/s the actual main page if you don't get what im trying to say: http://www.tittymungus.com/Main/Main.html
    Any thoughts to save myself?

Why do you want to sqeeze it in an iWeb page?
Make a link to your blog and there a link back to your webpage.
Search the interwebs for blog alternatives.
I use blogger and thingamablog : one / iWeb demo

  • Remaining image color issues in iWEB 2.0.2

Although images and profiles are now basically treated correctly in ALBUMS in iWEB 2.0.2 this is NOT the case for images in other places. Images dragged to placeholders and directly to pages are severly misstreated. I had missed this in my previous tests, but was pointed in the right direction by Mark Johnson.
    PROBLEM
Images on the WEB pages are converted to MONITOR profile and then stripped of any profile. This is a particularly devious bug, since on YOUR own monitor, the images will appear to be published correctly. But on other peoples monitor, it will be incorrect.
There is no easy workaround for this problem.
    For more information see http://www.tomasjonsson.eu
    Tomas

    Tomas,
Ahhh, this is like a detective story!!! Clues and stuff!!!
Actually most of my "old" photos transferred from the previous iWeb (Take my blog archive "Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Manatees" for instance, 2006 posting). Those pics show an sRGB profile and they are even transferred from the old iWeb through to the new iWeb 08. I didn't do anything to them except fix the blog page format a little like I did with all the blog pages. I did not reimport them.
But on a couple of my blog entries I thought they might be too light and I wanted to see what the adjust tab in iWeb would do...... I know I'm a Photoshop person and know the right way but I was tempted. So the three or so that I adjusted in iWeb 08 (using the photo adjust thing - brightness down a bit) those show no color profile when I download them and put them back into Photoshop. In fact the downloaded file says "filtered".
So I know not to try to quick adjust in iWeb, it was just and experiment anyway and it does strip the profile - that is the only thing different I did to those photos. But most of the other photos have sRGB profiles even the manatee thumbnail on the right has an sRGB profile but the other two thumbs got turned into graphics probably cause I tried to link them then canceled for the time being.
But upshot is the majority of my picture files retained their profiles I assigned in Photoshop, sRGB (I shoot in Adobe RGB but assign sRGB for the web).
Only the three or four photos I tried to adjust in iWeb stripped the profile and say "filtered" after download. But now on another look (forgive me it is late and I'm fading), it seems that the older posts I had when I didn't do anything to the photo when I changed themes - that is I just let iWeb drop and crop the photo in the strange crop in their original template (like the one about the stargazer); that photo when downloaded doesn't say "filtered" but it says "shape image" but both the four or so "filtered" files I edited in IWeb and the photo files that I just let iWeb place where it wanted to as "shape image" those are the only files stripped of my original sRGB profiles (besides the two thumbs that are graphics now). I'm getting this now - on most of my blogs I hated iWebs template format and I just chose "original file" from the inspector and resized a little in the blog entry with the measure tool and those files are in sRGB and not stripped of profile (unless of course they were the several that I decided to mess with in iWeb's edit.)
And the 2 thumbs on the right that turned into graphics - those profiles seem to be gone as they are probably png files now?
But the manatee thumb on the right is still sRGB.
There must be a pattern here though as how did the manatee thumb that is not linked to the blog at all stay sRGB?
One thing I do is I always insert photos through the "Insert Choose" tab I never drag from the finder. I wonder if this makes a difference? I don't see how it could but maybe it does?
Or is there some metadata tag my photos have that keeps the assigned sRGB color profile relatively in tact (that is until I tried to edit in iWeb or turned a thumb into a graphic)? Remember my sRGB profile stayed in on the vast majority of the blog photos even through the iWebb 08 upgrade.
Tomas, forgive me but I'm completely gone now I'm wandering - I've also been trying to learn iMovie '08.....
I think there is a lesson here though. The majority of my blog photos retained their sRGB profile even through the upgrade. The only ones that lost it were the ones I did nothing to (i.e. let iWeb just drop into the standard template - those are "shape image" now with no profile); or the other several that lost the profiles were the ones that I used the adjust tab on in iWeb.
But even on the ones I did not "reimport" if I just clicked on "original size" in the inspector and resized with the measure tool a little those kept their profile (unless of course those are some of the ones I "adjusted" in iWeb. But what is curious is that I didn't click on any but the top one of the "Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Manatees" post - there are a number of other photos in that post and all those photos kept their sRGB profile through the upgrade to iWeb '08 and the change in blog themes. I did not touch those photos - they just kept their profile.
There is a lesson here but I'm too tired to figure it out.
My monitor profile is a bit different from sRGB but maybe not so much. sRGB monitor profile is too "green" and I have a Huey Pro that I calibrate with that takes that color cast away. I tried Monaco Optix but that was complex and didn't work for me at all. The Huey is simple, quick, easy, portable and just works.
Will leave you geniuses to figure this all out. Looks to me like you can keep your sRGB profiles (even in small thumbs like the manatee to the right in the frame); if you don't edit in iWEB 08 or turn it into a graphic thumbnail (but we knew that) and if you don't just let iWEB 08 drop your images into some strange crop in the existing template (then the files say "shape image" with the file and no color profile?)
Over and out will let you guys figure it out......, Carol

  • Can I modify the blog page in an iWeb template?

Specifically, iWeb has it set up to have a "teaser page" for blogs, but the teasers are the entire blog entries, minus the pictures or media I put in the blog. I'd like for those teasers to be much, much shorter so that people are more likely to click on the actual blog entry.
Any help is appreciated. Cheers - Rachel

While on your main blog page, click on the RSS tab in Inspector. From there, choose Blog. You can then adjust the excerpt length as well as the number of excerpts to display.

  • IE Scolling/Lag issues with IWeb Published Site

Has anyone had any issues with scrolling/lag with Internet Explorer on an iWeb published site? I have a site that runs great on Firefox and safari but terrible on Internet Explorer. I'm thinking it may be the template/design i used?
Anyone every seen this? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    JC

I've only ever used the Modern Frame, so I can't say if there would be a performance issue using a different template. I have about three pictures on each page.
I noticed on your site that you're using the "reflection" effect on some of your pictures. Just for the purpose of testing, perhaps you could try turning off that effect and then re-uploading your site to see if that is causing some of the problem? I believe the reflection is rendered using javascript code, which may be causing the poor performance in IE. If that does turn out to be the problem, you can decide whether it's worth it to keep the effect or not.
By the way, I don't get that same error message in IE when I open your Videos page. Maybe it's caused by a security setting in your IE being set at a more restrictive level?

  • Conversion old blog from Blogger to iWeb

I have an old blog that I created in 2006 on the blogger.com site. I have not updated it since then but I would like to move it into my web site created with iWeb. I used the Blogger export process to download the blog. It saved on my computer as a .xml file. Now what? IWeb doesn't see the xml file.

There is nothing that you can do except re-create your blog in iWeb. iWeb has no import facility so cannot open your Blogger files. Either this or you can create a link from your iWeb site to your blog.
    No other options here.

  • Will I still me able to keep my blogs and websites with iWeb after Mobileme is discontinued?

My wife and I use iWeb via Mobileme for our websites and blogs. Mobileme is being discontinued for iCloud.  Can anyone reassure me that I can keep my iWeb websites?  I feel iWeb was a good thing that almost got better but has been neglected in the last version of iLife so for the first time didn't upgrade.  I am anxious that Apple will just let it slip away.  Perhaps not?

I don't have any insider information, but I would have to guess that Apple would keep a web hosting option to its chosen successor to MobileMe.  iCould is clearly a Hosted Exchange Server alternative and web hosting would seem to be needed for many small businesses who are using this service as an alternative to web hosting. It also helps push their iLife product line.  If you kill webhosting, iWeb becomes a weaker product.  That said, I would keep a backup.
I think that as iCloud gets nearer to release date, we will see more options get released.  I'm sure that Apple will be willing to sell more storage space, that web hosting will be available, etc.  My gut is that probably won't charge for the hosting, but will draw down from your data pool.  It just seems like a cleaner way and will actually get more people to take the jump.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a Sharepoint type service emerge as well.  Only time will tell, but Apple's philosophy is to make all their pieces fit together and work better than than anyone else's.  A web hosting component seems to make sense.
