Blog Summary and Archive Page

Does anyone know if the blog can be configured to display...
1) Only a summary of each post or
2) Listing only the title of each post like an archive or
3) Show only the most recent posts and allowing an "Older Posts" link to the full archive
If the blog can only show the full content of every single post, then it will definitely get messier over time as more and more blog posts are added, and load times might get longer and longer too.
Can anyone clarify on this?

By default, only the 20 most recent blog posts will be displayed on someone's blog - You can change one of the values in /etc/wikid/wikid.conf to change this. Probably the howManyEntriesToShow key - either that or listingsPerFeed / listingsPerPage.
If you wanted to only display the title in the blog listing, the easiest way to accomplish that would probably be to create a theme with a css selector or javascript that strips the entry_content from the page.

  • Altering blog format and querying page size

    Good morning all
Two quick questions - I have had a search around the forums for these but haven't found anything relevant, so here are my quesitons:
    1) Is it possible to format the way that blog entries appear on the main blog page? Inspector of course allows small tweaks such as number of entries to show, and length of entries, but I wanted to know if it was possible to perhaps lose the left side photo thumbnail space altogether so that the blog entry/text itself takes up the entire width of the page. Also, is it possible to have the photo-thumbnail link photo on the right hand side of the main blog page, instead of on the left hand side? (Hopefully this question makes sense)
    2. Back in the days of when I used Frontpage, it had a handy little feature which would let you know how large the page you were working on was (in KB) and would tell you how many seconds it would take to load using a dialup modem. Is there any such feature un iWeb (like a "page info" selection?
    Many thanks

    Hi Narly,
    In answer to:
but I wanted to know if it was possible to perhaps lose the left side photo thumbnail space altogether so that the blog entry/text itself takes up the entire width of the page.
Yes it is, simply delete the picture from the Entry page and it wont show up on the main blog page. You can then insert an image if you want one on the entry page and it will not show up, just dont drop it into the default imageholder (which wont be there because you have deleted it!).
Also, is it possible to have the photo-thumbnail link photo on the right hand side of the main blog page, instead of on the left hand side?
Different templates put the picture on different sides.
    2. Not that I am aware of!

  • Blog category and archive js path/conflict issue..

    Hi guys,
My main menu isn't functioning when accessed from blog categories or the blog archive. My best guess is it's a js path or conflict issue but since im new to all this im not sure how to fix it. Would someone with some experience be able to point me in the right direction while I still have some hair left?
    Thanks,

    Hi Liam,
Thanks for the reply. I know it's not much to go on, I just wasn't sure if I was allowed to post links on here?

  • Is it possible to have a blog archive page including pictures?

In my blog, there is a blog summary, and there is the blog archive page. The blog summary shows the main picture of the blog, however, the blog archive is only a title list with links previous blogs.
Is it possible to also show pictures in the blog archive page (next to the blog title)?
So far, I have not been able to find this functionality in IWeb. Maybe it doesn't exist?
    Thanx!

In the upper right of this forum's _main page_ is a +Search Forum+ bar. If you enter:
    blog archive image
...into it and hit Enter, you'll find the first hit in the list is your answer.

  • Any blog templates safe in non-Safari browsers? Blog Summary Widget?

I've tried "Doodle" and "Darkroom" and in both cases, the blog summary page (first page) does not work in both Internet Explorer (Mac) and Firefox (Mac). In both, the Blog Summary Widget does not work. The pictures and text are missing and is replaced with text that says "Blog Summary Widget."
For the test, I did nothing to change or edit the templates. I just published them them as is. They look great in Safari, but no go in Firefox 1.0.2 and IE 5.2.3. I know these are probably not the most current versions of either, but I can guarantee that they're more recent than what my grandma has and she's more typical of my web audience I'm trying to do a family blog. I figured iWeb has cooler templates than Blogger.com and it would be easy since it's iLife. Too bad the blog page probably won't work on most computers' browsers. I don't have a Windows machine to test it on, but I'm guessing that they will be even more unforgiving. Is anyone else having better luck?
The only other factor is that I'm not using a .Mac account. I can't imagine that this could be the issue, but if it is, then that is really, really evil. It's bad enough that Apple punishes you for not having a .Mac account by making you FTP your entire site every time you make a change instead of incrementally (this is a separate thread topic).

    Hello
I've settled on a modified Modern weblog template (http://www.kilayko.com) and it has worked well in the following browser/OS combinations:
    Camino 1.5/Mac OS X
    Safari 2/Mac OS X
    Mobile Safari/iPhone
    IE 6 and 7/Windows XP
    Firefox 2/Windows XP
The only combination that seems to give me (a little) trouble is:
    Opera/Wii
It seems to ignore the thumbnail images on both the main weblog and archive pages but the area is still clickable.
I know that these are somewhat newer versions than what you are targeting but it may point to a limitation in the JavaScript implementations in the older browser versions. It appears that many of the template elements make use of JavaScript for functionality.
I should note that I am also using .Mac - although I don't think that should make a difference for the rendering.

  • Multiple blog summary pages

I'm creating a new website for sharing news and photos for my family. I want to use the iWeb blog for my entries and plan to do some customization of my site through HTML snippits, iFrames, etc. I've been reading quite a bit on this forum and other useful sites on how to do more with iWeb, but I can't seem to find a solution for the following problem.
Let's say I allow 15 blog entries to be shown on my blog summary page yet over time I build a site with 50 or more entries. Then at least 35 will be on the archive page and that's alot to scroll through. I'd like to have the first 15 on blog summary page 1 then the next 15 on blog summary page 2, etc. Call it multiple archive pages if you will. But I want iWeb to keep track of the blog entries on those additional pages instead of me having to create new non-blog pages and copy and paste links to my entries.
    Here's an example
    http://allaboutiweb.com/
Any way to do this with iWeb 09?
FYI, I know there are a lot of other blogging software and hosting sites out there, but I want to use iWeb 09 because I've already created one site in the past with iWeb so I'm familiar with it. I also have a Mobile Me account with a domain name through goDaddy, so I'm publishing my iWeb site to Mobile Me with password protection.
    Appreciate the help.

first, iweb limits blog summary to display 50 entries, so you are kinda limited if you want to have a continuous blog over the years.
if you have less than 50 entries per year, you have to break your blog into the year and have a master archive page and link all archive blog(s) to it.
once you decide what to do, you can use iweb rss feed widget to display the archive as feed, but i don't recommend iweb rss feed widget because it depends on mme server, unreliable at best.
instead you can use yahoo's pipes: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/
yahoo pipes is reliable and flexible, you can build your own feed that you can merge other feeds into one or keep them separate, here is my example of merged feeds:
    http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/Entries/2009/7/25Not_iWebWidget.html
or you can tag blog entries by key words or categories, your users can narrow down the entries display with it, here my iweb blog tagging (click on any tagged word on the right side):
    http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/Archive.html
all code is linked to my examples. to do the above, you need to know yahoo pipes, ajax/javascript and iweb inner working parts.

  • How to make the date disappear on the blog summary page?

  • Blog entry didn't show up on blog summary page. ¿Por qué?

    RE: Blog
Last night I wrote a blog entry, but the first few sentences did NOT show up on the blog summary page. I previously had set the blog entry length to be short (toggled far to the left), but there is a difference between a short length and NO length at all.
Why do you suppose this happened?
INFORMATION: Prior to writing the blog entry I was having difficulty with the picture not showing up on the blog entry page, and in trying to edit it and move text around I might have messed up some registration lines, or LINES. Could that have had an effect? I must say that of all the things involved in iWeb, this Blog feature has given me the most problems and made me the angriest. Just thinking about it right now has created a tight knot in my chest.
    Lorna in Southern California

Go back to your main blog summary page in iWeb. Open
the Inspector to the RSS tab and slide the text
excert slider to show ALL (all the way to the right).
Does ANY of your blog text show up in this
    particular entry?
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
Well, Inspector Tseng, I toggled to the *Show All* position, and heheheh, none of the blog entry showed on the blog summary page.
If not, then perhaps you entered
your text in a different text box....did you add a
text box to the page? If it does, then maybe you
have some preceding spaces in the text box? Or
maybe you inserted a photo into the text box
    inadvertently?
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
James, last night I was having so many dang blasted flippin cockamamie problems with the picture that I moved a bunch of things around and recall making a new text box and typing into it. Grrrr.
I am going to return there and copy and paste and delete that page. I feel very bad that I cannot master the blog after so much stupid time. I also think that the blog needs to be more idiot proofed so that normally OK actions in other iWeb scenarios don't end up as yet another disaster on the ash heap of broken iWeb dreams.

  • Blog Summary/Entry-link on front-page?

    Hi all!
I have a front-page and a blog-page on my newly created iWeb '08 site, and it's working great.
However I'd like to have my blog-entries show up on the front-page, just the title as a link, that takes you to the blog entry.
I'd rather not make the blog summary page my front-page, because I like the layout of the front-page, but I'd also like my visitors to be able to quickly go to my blog-posts from the front-page.
Is this possible, maybe via the new Web Widgets feature? Seems like something a lot of people would want to do, and maybe it's right there in front of me, I just can't seeem to find it
Another thing: Has anyone made a "iWeb 08 Web Widgets Repository" or something like that? A place to collect and share great Web Widgets for iWeb?

Use an RSS feeder like feeddigest or your servers own to create a java script that will "scrape" your site. If you don't care what it looks like there are a number of them out there, if you want customization go with feeddigest. You won't get updates very quickly (24 hour turnaround), but it looks better than most.

  • Blog Summary Page Does Not Update Picture

For some reason, when I create a new blog entry by duplicating the last one and adding new content, the Blog Summary page will not update the picture. I sometimes either have to create a new blank blog entry, or drag a different picture into the placeholder, followed by my original.
Is this happening to anyone else? I think I am going to finish out my year-long blog project with iWeb/MobileMe, then drop both! This is getting to frustrating.

    Perhaps to this person:
_blog summary didn't show the pictures_.

A wise move — problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums: Lost all blog entries or all comments or unable to publish, etc. If you switch to a dedicated blogging platform you're likely to have a better experience. For a success story using a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:

  • Blog Summary Page: Pictures in blog entries are gone

All of my blog entries on the blog summary page no longer display images set inside the text of an entry. Is this an iWeb 2.0 bug or "feature"?
This is annoying, because with iWeb 1 I was able to share these pictures in my blog summary page and RSS feed. Now my blog and RSS readers have to click the "read more" link to see any pictures, even though I have set my blog summary length to the total entry.
This is a serious loss of feature for no good reason, and I hope this is considered a bug and will be fixed soon.

I was just getting ready to post a similar question when I ran across yours. I've been using Rapid Weaver for my blog and was thinking about switching over to iWeb, but until the pictures start showing up on the summary page (inside the text of an entry), iWeb is utterly non-functional for my purposes.
The other thing I noticed is that none of the formatting (like bold or italics text) shows up inside the text of an entry on the summary page either.
I, too, am very interested in whether this is a "bug" or a "feature."

  • Blog summary widget and Firefox

I just started having this issue where the iWeb page when viewed with Firefox is truncated and the pages simply have Blog Summary Widget showing without any summaries and only one or two headlines and no links. However, if I view the page with Safari it looks and works fine. I've been posting on the blog for over a week without any viewing problems on Firefox previously.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't believe that I've downloaded any Firefox updates in the past 24 hours. I'm using Firefox 3.0.8. A friend using Leopard and Firefox is able to view the page without any problems, as is someone using Internet Explorer on a PC. So, I guess it's looking like it's a problem with my particular Firefox browser, eh?

  • Multiple Blog Summary Widgets on one page

    Hello
I was wondering if anyone knew how to put multiple Blog Summary Widgets onto a single page? Basically having a single weblog page but hosting more than one blog on that page.
If you do a simple copy and paste, it will pick up the "feed" from the Entries already associated with the existing blog. I have also tried pasting multiple widgets onto a blank page without success - I just get a 1 pixel line.
What I have done with my site (http://www.kilayko.com) in the meantime is to create an iframe and then load the second blog there. The only potential downside is that surfers will stay in that frame.
Any takers for this one, or is it just a happy limitation of iWeb?

  • Deleting Archive page of iWeb blog

Can the Archive page from a blog be deleted?
I have searched and found others are having the same publish error that I am and the only common thread is that the archive page is creating the publish error on there blog and mine:
"Can't Create the File Shapeimage1_Link0.png. The disk may be damaged, full or you may not have sufficient access privileges"
This error happens on the archive page, which I cannot conrtol anyhting on.
It seems to happen once there are 350+ entries on my blog and on others. Is iWeb known to have such a limit to entires? I don't remember reading that when I bought or started using iWeb.
I have followed this advice posted here before:
    UNKNOWN PUBLISHING ERROR OCCURS
CAN’T CREATE THE FILE “SHAPEIMAGE1_LINK0.PNG.” THE DISK MAY BE DAMAGED, FULL, OR YOU MAY NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT ACCESS PRIVILEGES
"Many times these error messages will point to a specific page or even a specific file. If not, you may also be able to determine the source of the problem by noticing which page caused publishing to stop, while publishing was in progress. Fixing the problem may be as simple as deleting the specified file or page from the site. Make a copy of your Domain file, place it into an empty folder, and place this folder into your Documents folder. Now, open iWeb and delete the particular page the error message points to and try to publish again; first to a folder, and if that is successful, then to .Mac. If this works, go back to the copied Domain file, open the site from this Domain by double-clicking on the Domain file, and see if you can identify the specific file on the page that is giving problems. Make sure that no illegal characters, such as forward slashes or colons, are used in file names."
However, since my error happens on the archive page, that I cannot control, this isn't even a hope at a solution.
Either way, I can easily live without the archive as the blog can be searched and the archive takes forever to load and wastes space.
Going back and deleting old posts is not an option as I feel it defeats the purpose of having a blog at all.
I hate to stop blogging and using iWeb, but until it is solved, I cannot create new posts.
Can the archive be deleted or otherwise removed from my blog?

    jabberwock (Alice)
Ack! Now I'm really confused.... it's funny actually.... jabberwock is kind of a genderless name, right? It's fine with me, I just as soon imagined a male jabberwock. Then Lorna kept referring to a Phyllis in her emails and I asked "Who?" and then she told me, "You know....Phyllis as in Jabberwock!". But I guess it's actually Alice and not Phyllis, unless there are two of you! Haha. I actually did ask myself "Phyllis as in abenningfield? Where's the "A" come from?" It all makes sense now.
Yesterday I got posts and it was covered by the
image....well I learned that the image has to stay
    within the text square.
I think the biggest problem with the Apple comments system is that you do have to "think" about where the comments will show up (if you get any!). I really do like to think of my blog entries as individual web pages. I tend to put photos all over and different text boxes everywhere and generally move things all around. I guess the Apple comments would really mess things for me because it would probably want to put the comments behind a lot of my photos and content just like you experienced.
icomment/haloscan is a lot better because you can specify exactly where to put the "Add comments" link...and of course the comments open in a popup window.
