Blog Summary Layout

I would like to change the blog summary page layout in order to allow at least two columns for the entries. All the entries are formated with horizontal layout. Is there any possibility to do so?
Many thanks!

  • Blog Summary/Entry-link on front-page?

    Hi all!
I have a front-page and a blog-page on my newly created iWeb '08 site, and it's working great.
However I'd like to have my blog-entries show up on the front-page, just the title as a link, that takes you to the blog entry.
I'd rather not make the blog summary page my front-page, because I like the layout of the front-page, but I'd also like my visitors to be able to quickly go to my blog-posts from the front-page.
Is this possible, maybe via the new Web Widgets feature? Seems like something a lot of people would want to do, and maybe it's right there in front of me, I just can't seeem to find it
Another thing: Has anyone made a "iWeb 08 Web Widgets Repository" or something like that? A place to collect and share great Web Widgets for iWeb?

Use an RSS feeder like feeddigest or your servers own to create a java script that will "scrape" your site. If you don't care what it looks like there are a number of them out there, if you want customization go with feeddigest. You won't get updates very quickly (24 hour turnaround), but it looks better than most.

  • Multiple blog summary pages

I'm creating a new website for sharing news and photos for my family. I want to use the iWeb blog for my entries and plan to do some customization of my site through HTML snippits, iFrames, etc. I've been reading quite a bit on this forum and other useful sites on how to do more with iWeb, but I can't seem to find a solution for the following problem.
Let's say I allow 15 blog entries to be shown on my blog summary page yet over time I build a site with 50 or more entries. Then at least 35 will be on the archive page and that's alot to scroll through. I'd like to have the first 15 on blog summary page 1 then the next 15 on blog summary page 2, etc. Call it multiple archive pages if you will. But I want iWeb to keep track of the blog entries on those additional pages instead of me having to create new non-blog pages and copy and paste links to my entries.
    Here's an example
    http://allaboutiweb.com/
Any way to do this with iWeb 09?
FYI, I know there are a lot of other blogging software and hosting sites out there, but I want to use iWeb 09 because I've already created one site in the past with iWeb so I'm familiar with it. I also have a Mobile Me account with a domain name through goDaddy, so I'm publishing my iWeb site to Mobile Me with password protection.
    Appreciate the help.

first, iweb limits blog summary to display 50 entries, so you are kinda limited if you want to have a continuous blog over the years.
if you have less than 50 entries per year, you have to break your blog into the year and have a master archive page and link all archive blog(s) to it.
once you decide what to do, you can use iweb rss feed widget to display the archive as feed, but i don't recommend iweb rss feed widget because it depends on mme server, unreliable at best.
instead you can use yahoo's pipes: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/
yahoo pipes is reliable and flexible, you can build your own feed that you can merge other feeds into one or keep them separate, here is my example of merged feeds:
    http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/Entries/2009/7/25Not_iWebWidget.html
or you can tag blog entries by key words or categories, your users can narrow down the entries display with it, here my iweb blog tagging (click on any tagged word on the right side):
    http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/Archive.html
all code is linked to my examples. to do the above, you need to know yahoo pipes, ajax/javascript and iweb inner working parts.

  • Blog entry didn't show up on blog summary page. ¿Por qué?

    RE: Blog
Last night I wrote a blog entry, but the first few sentences did NOT show up on the blog summary page. I previously had set the blog entry length to be short (toggled far to the left), but there is a difference between a short length and NO length at all.
Why do you suppose this happened?
INFORMATION: Prior to writing the blog entry I was having difficulty with the picture not showing up on the blog entry page, and in trying to edit it and move text around I might have messed up some registration lines, or LINES. Could that have had an effect? I must say that of all the things involved in iWeb, this Blog feature has given me the most problems and made me the angriest. Just thinking about it right now has created a tight knot in my chest.

Go back to your main blog summary page in iWeb. Open
the Inspector to the RSS tab and slide the text
excert slider to show ALL (all the way to the right).
Does ANY of your blog text show up in this
    particular entry?
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
Well, Inspector Tseng, I toggled to the *Show All* position, and heheheh, none of the blog entry showed on the blog summary page.
If not, then perhaps you entered
your text in a different text box....did you add a
text box to the page? If it does, then maybe you
have some preceding spaces in the text box? Or
maybe you inserted a photo into the text box
    inadvertently?
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
James, last night I was having so many dang blasted flippin cockamamie problems with the picture that I moved a bunch of things around and recall making a new text box and typing into it. Grrrr.
I am going to return there and copy and paste and delete that page. I feel very bad that I cannot master the blog after so much stupid time. I also think that the blog needs to be more idiot proofed so that normally OK actions in other iWeb scenarios don't end up as yet another disaster on the ash heap of broken iWeb dreams.

  • Blog Summary Image

Every now and then when I visit my published site, the image associated with particular blog entries is incorrect and uses an image from a previous entry. I have changed the name of the image to see if that had any impact and it didn't appear to do so. It is difficult to actually replicate the problem as it only occurs rarely.

    in blog summary page:
    1) select blog summary entry.
    2) blog summary settings hud will pop up.
    3) select photo proportion to portrait.

  • Blog summary widget problem

I am getting reports that some users cannot load my iWeb '08 site. I have looked into it and not everyone is affected the same. In safari it's fine but in firefox on a mac it only loads a partial page with a js error. On a windows pc it's a crap-shoot as to if it will load or not. I can get my pc to load it with ie 7 but others cannot. Searching the forums and google I can see that I am not the only one with this problem.
It seems that the "Blog Summary Widget" is the error. I have tried everything including File / Publish All
    How can I fix this?
    http://web.mac.com/mdavison1/Studebaker_Road/Home/Home.html
    or

    Same problem
I detect tha the Tools for webmaster of Google generate errors 404 (not found) to all the references to files locates into the Widget subdirectory:

is some path variable into the code generated that is not composed in the right way ?

  • Blog summary widget & impossible upload!! please help!!!

    Hi
Our school has upgrade to iLife 09 and we're trying to upload our site to ME, all the pages are red now but every time we try to update the website, the process stops because any reason, a different reason each time (a PDF, a PNG, the connection to Me servers…) but this didn't happen before iWeb 09 update.
I've tried to upload to a local folder and it has gone smoothly. I don't have a FTP server to upload so I cannot test it.
What can I do to solve this situation?? we need to upload the site, because now there a "blog summary widget" instead of the blog.
    Any help??

    Hi,
i have suffered these problems so long now, the only way i have had any luck what so ever is to publish the site to a local folder and then FTP with filezilla.
It's a free FTP client that works really well.
    Check it out at:
    http://filezilla-project.org/
    It will work!

  • Blog summary weirdness

okay this is nutty. I've got 3 blogs on a site. published them to a mobile me account. one is just fine, but on the other two, the links in the blog summary are all dead. however if you go the archive. the links are fine. and all other links are fine. it's just the ones in the summary. doesn't matter if it's on mobile me or local folder.
the site is http://www.fangirlla.com and the bad blogs are Movies and Television.

I think I have the same problem. I decided to change the theme on my blog since the top header graphic was not working correctly on the blog and had funny patches of incorrect background using the Formal theme.
I realized I would have to reformat every blog entry to look good for the new theme (Darkroom) so decided to have an old blog and a new blog. The new blog works fine, but the entries on the old blog for 2008-2009 are now missing the blog title, date, entry title and the first text box. All the additional pictures and text boxes I added are still there.
It must not like more than one blog on a site???

  • "Blog Summary Widget"  appears after publishing

In my blog page, I've created entries and can view them fine on iweb. After I publish, all the entries are replaced with the text "Blog Summary Widget". What am I doing wrong here?
I have also upgraded to iweb 2.0.1
    the page: http://web.mac.com/zc7/HELIOSPHERE/Blog/Blog.html
    Thanks!

iweb didn't upload all the needed javascript, the following are missing from your site:
    http://web.mac.com/zc7/HELIOSPHERE/Scripts/Widgets/SharedResources/WidgetCommon. js
    http://web.mac.com/zc7/HELIOSPHERE/Scripts/iWebSite.js
    http://web.mac.com/zc7/HELIOSPHERE/Scripts/iWebImage.js
don't how to fix it though, except try to publish all to .mac (again)

  • Blog Summary Formatting

I have added a shadow effect to the text in my blog entries however this effect is not carried over onto the main blog summary page. The option to add a shadow effect to the text on the blog summary page is greyed out.

Yes, you can drag it right into the text area and then set the wrap for it in the text dialog box. You can even set how closely it wraps.
Another cool little thing I found while playing, it wraps around the object according to opacity! If you place an object so that part of it has below 50% opacity and part has above, only the part over 50% will have text wrap around it.

  • Blog summary does not seem to update online

I've just updated a blog I've created for a musician friend of mine; it's been done on iweb 3.0.2 & published via ftp using godaddy: http://lauramoodymusic.com/lmm/news/news.html
However, the main blog summary which is correct on iweb, and the version published to a local folder, is not updating online. The new blogs are visible if you go to the archive, and by clicking on the RSS feed, but not from this front page... I've tried to republish all the relevant pages again, manually, but this doesn't seem to have worked either.
    Help urgently needed.
    thank you.

+Noticing how disorganised the iTunes Lib is, I spent a lot of time today adding and editing mp3 tag data so that iTunes would look more logical.+
+However it does not seem to pull in or update to what I have on my hard drive!+
iTunes does not read the tags until you select/play a track. It stores the tag information in its library file and this will not reflect changes made to tags with an external editor until iTunes looks at the track.
You can force iTunes to re-read all the tags by selecting all the tracks in your library, right clicking in the selection and choosing get info.
It is essential that you do nothing except click "OK" as any change you make would be applied to every track in your library.
Depending on the size of your library iTunes may take a while to complete the task.
It is always advisable to have your library backed up in case you make a mistake.

  • Blog Summary Page Does Not Update Picture

For some reason, when I create a new blog entry by duplicating the last one and adding new content, the Blog Summary page will not update the picture. I sometimes either have to create a new blank blog entry, or drag a different picture into the placeholder, followed by my original.
Is this happening to anyone else? I think I am going to finish out my year-long blog project with iWeb/MobileMe, then drop both! This is getting to frustrating.

    Perhaps to this person:
_blog summary didn't show the pictures_.

A wise move — problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums: Lost all blog entries or all comments or unable to publish, etc. If you switch to a dedicated blogging platform you're likely to have a better experience. For a success story using a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:

It's often recommended here not to use iWeb's blog — whether with MobileMe or another server. There are often problems with iWeb's blog and there are several alternatives you could use and hyperlink to from your iWeb site. Here are just a few...

  • Blog Summary Blog Entry Format

I've changed the background and text color in the "Entries" page, however it does not carry over to the Blog Summary in the main page, and the archive does not show the format changes either. Is there a way to change this in iWeb, or do I have to manually edit the .css? (and how would I do that?)
    Thanks!

I'd like to know how to do this too. Please tell me how, if anybody out there knows

  • Blog Summary Widget Error

After completely redoing my page and uploading, my blog doesn't show up any more. Instead it just says "Blog Summary Widget" where the blog would be.
I did a search, and the only things that was suggested was upgrading to iWeb09 (the version I'm using).
I read some mention of it being the blogsummary.js file that is to blame, but nothing on what/how to fix it.
    Any ideas?

    kriista wrote:
Does reinstalling clean like that have any adverse effect on the webpages themselves? (Do you have to rebuild anything).
No — iWeb stores your sites separate from the iWeb app in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you've moved the Domain file from there, when you then re-install iWeb it may "forget" the Domain file's location and expect to find it in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
But wherever your iWeb Domain file currently is, you should make a back up of it:
_iWeb: Backing up your Domain file_
Time Machine is another option for back up as well as these free apps which will come in handy when your Mac's internal HD crashes:

    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
    kriista wrote:
I'll look into some non iWeb blogging options, but that was the reason I started using iWeb (I had a 'from scratch' page in dreamweaver that I abandoned)
You wouldn't have to abandon iWeb completely. As an alternative to setting up a basic hyperlink to your external blog, you can link to it from iWeb's navigation bar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).
