Blogging using iweb

Hi
I am thinking of moving my wifes site to iWeb. I setup a test account for her and she is currently updating a couple of pages to get a feel of the software. All in all she quite likes it.
We are going on holiday in October and she would like to be able to blog while we are underway. The catch is that she does not want to take a laptop with her she would rather like to update the site via a browser. I cannot seem to find a way to do this!
Currently she just logs onto her site using a standard browser and can create rudimentary pages - she would then update these pages when she gets home with pictures etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanx
Ursus

You can't. If this is important for you, use Blogger or another app that has that feature.

I have created a blog using iweb. I also enabled add comments using the inspector. On a PC when you go to the web site and click on add a comment you get an error message saying they are having a problem processing your request. What can I do to let PC users post comments?

  • Blog -- use iWeb or link to outside site?

Have my webpage going (still working on it) -- want to add a blog but have heard that the iWeb blog can 'bog down' the speed of the page?
is it best to use outside (ie: Wordpress, Blogger)-- if so, which one works best? (want to post pictures, occasional videos, music of mine, etc)
any tips for streamlining this process with least amount of gliches?

Liz ~ Yes, and you can lose blog entries and comments.

As an alternative to setting up a basic hyperlink to your external blog, you can link to it from iWeb's navigation bar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).

Better to include the prefix so it's conveniently clickable:

  • Using iWeb to build a Blog for an existing non-MobileMe Site

I have a large, existing website that is hosted on One World Hosting (OWH). I have liked creating blogs using iWeb.
    1. Is there a way for me to create a blog using iWeb and then upload it and embed it into my OWH website?
    2. That website was largely created under Adobe Creative Suite 1. It will soon have a new website side, CSS and Javascript navigation system in the Head and in the Footer or each of its page. I would assume that I would need to replace or modify the iWeb created Head and Footer source code by copying in my new CSS and Javascript code so that the blog will look and operate seamlessly with the rest of this site. Will iWeb give me problems if I attempt to do this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The following are features lost when publishing iWeb sites to a non MobileMe server:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ Enhanced slideshows
So if you want comments and searches in your blog you'll have to go with a 3rd party blogging site. Actually you would be better served using a proven blogging site and then embed it in one of your iWeb site pages like in this demo page: Embed One Site Within an iWeb Page.

  • HT4686 How can I publish my website developed using iWeb and have all functions of the blog page work as it did with MobileMe?

I have developed a website using iWeb and it includes a blog page selected from stock pages in iWeb.  I'm publishing it with GoDaddy and when I do that the interactive functions of the blog page don't work. (Adding comments and photos as well as searching).  Is there any simple way to host this site somewhere so that those functions work?

No, because all those functions were MobileMe only and now that MobileMe has gone, they won't function any longer.
To enable these to function, you either need to add them yourself or change your blogging platform to something else such as WordPress etc., and create a link from iWeb to your WordPress blog or embed the blog page using iframe into your iWeb site.
Commenting systems such as Disqus or http://www.intensedebate.com work quite well.

it's possible to use iWeb '09 with Google Blog or Wordpress?

  • I used to publish a blog on iWeb.  Haven't blogged in a long time, but want to again.

Haven't blogged in a long time, but want to again.  I am not super tech savvy, I just want to write.  Any suggestions for painless, post iWeb blogging?

You can still use iWeb to create and maintain a blog if you don't want to allow comments by visitors.  Otherwise you'll need to use one of the established blogging sites.
You could add a separate comments page with links to it on your blog pages. For that you can use DISQUS - Elevating the discussion or IntenseDebate comments enhance and encourage conversation on your blog or website.
If you use an established blogging site it can be embedded into your iWeb page as shown in this demo page: Embed a Site Within an iWeb Page

  • Use iBog created blog with iWeb created web site?

Just began playing around with iWeb, and so far, like it a lot. But I already have a published blog using iBlog. Can I import that existing blog? Do I just link to it?
    Thx,
    G5 Dual 2.7 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You can't import your iBlog created blog into iWeb, but you can create a link to it from one of your iWeb pages.

  • When I use IWeb for my blog, many people claim they are unable to use the comment window, claiming they get an "error" message.  I have check "allow comments" on the appropriate page.  Any help would be great.

When I use IWeb to post my blog, many readers claim they are unable to post a comment.  When they attempt, they receive an "error" message.  I have check and re-checked that "allow comments" is checked in the appropriate window.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can publish your blog on any server but will lose the commenting capability.  Since you'll have to find a new host soon anyway since MMe will go away on June 30, you might consider converting your blog to WordPress as that's the only  other blog type that an MMe blog can be converted to and keep it's comments, etc.  Rage Software has create an application that will convert an iWeb blog to WordPress: Convert Your iWeb Blog to a WordPress Blog | iWeb to WordPress. That way you can keep your blog's continuity.

  • How i create my own blog by using iWeb?

note that there is function called iWeb installed in my Macbook Air, however, i dont' know to start or what step i should follow to create my own blog by using that function?

iWeb is not a function. It's an Application. One of many on your computer.
You use iWeb to create a website with webpages, including a blog.
You open iWeb the same way you open other applications.
When in iWeb you can choose from themes. Each theme has a collection of pages. The name of each page indicates its purpose.
To learn more about iWeb you can use the Help. Help is not unique to iWeb. All applications have a Help function. Which is usefull if you do not know what a function, or in your case, the application can do.

  • I am running 10.6.8 and using iweb for my web site. After several SEO analysis they all indicate I need H1-6 header tags. After looking at the source code I see there are none in iweb. Is it necessary to add? If so, how do I add H Tags to iweb.

I am running 10.6.8 and using iweb for my web site. After several SEO analysis they all indicate I need H1-6 header tags. After looking at the source code I see there are none in iweb. Are they necessary to add?  Why would one add these tags and how do I add H Tags to iweb? And are there examples to look at? I am slowly learning about simple web design and assumed that iweb was stand alone without having to write code. Is this one of the reasons iweb is no longer supported? Thanks for looking at this!

A simple text page like this:
    Heading
        sub heading
              text paragraph ....
Is traditionally represented by html tags like:
    <h1>Heading</h1>
         <h2>sub heading</h2>
              <p>text paragraph ... </p>
I would guess that the use of h1-h6 tags helps search engines to understand the structure of a page as the tags imply a certain structure.
This can be compared to more generic tags like <div> that could represent any kind of content - and may be what iWeb uses (you'll have to check yourself).
I would generally recommend that you use some kind of up to date blog/site building tool, perhaps Wordpress or Squarespace (I haven't used either one myself) that support current web technologies - this should reduce your SEO issues and make it easier to properly support mobile/tablet users.

  • Can I use iWeb to create a website with visitor purchasing options?

I'm wondering if it's possible to use iWeb to create and publish a website for a small business like mine where visitors to the site can select items and have the option to make credit card purchases from the site. Obviously all the security for online purchasing would need to be there also. Is iWeb capable of that or does Apple offer a different web page software that can do this?
Thanks to anyone who can help,
    jburkett

    jburkett wrote:

Welcome to the discussions. Not natively.
...or does Apple offer a different web page software that can do this?
As far as I know, Apple has no s/w offerings of that sort. Bear this in mind when considering e-commerce and the MobileMe Service:
“The Service is designed for personal individual use and is not intended to be used for commercial business purposes, including, but not limited to, transacting online sales or software distribution via an e-commerce site.”
...Quoted from the MobileMe Terms of Service. PayPal buttons can be inserted into iWeb pages via the HTML Snippet window — but you may want to consider more complete alternatives such as this:
    http://blog.weebly.com/2/post/2009/05/announcing-weebly-e-commerce-features.html
...You could hyperlink from iWeb to your "shop" there and there's even a way to hyperlink to it from iWeb's navigation bar.

  • Using iweb...

Ok I've read the tutorial... some background
I've done many web sites and write my own html. I've only done it using homesite on a PC. So now every time i want to change a web site I have to fire up the old PC. So I'm trying to learn how to use iWeb. There isn't an html option correct? where I can see the html and tweak it?
Also trying to learn the Apple way... I'm trying to make a web site how iWeb works... graphically and i am reading the instructions for making a blog. Ok... so... It says to add a blank page - did that. The choose "blog" on the right side of the page. I don't see the words "blog" anywhere and I don't have anything on the right side of my page. I've looked thru the menu, the things on the bottom of the page (themes, shapes {not sure what that is}, web widgets. Where the heck is the blog or podcast?
Also in the instructions it talks about having to have a mobileme subscription, which I do, but some of my web sites are in other places (comcast free space, go daddy) can I set it up to ftp to other servers?
Sorry for all the questions but its confusing to unlearn and relearn.

Susan ~ Choose the Blog template rather than a Blank one. See this video tutorial:

...can I set it up to ftp to other servers?
Yes — In iWeb, choose File > Publish to a Folder, then FTP the folder to the server. See these articles:

  • Moving existing Blogger blog into iWeb site

I have an existing web site and am recreating it using iWeb
This includes a blog of some years which is created via Blogger.
Can I import my blogger blog (or the code from it) into an iWeb page so that it has the same look and feel?
I'd also wnat to ensure that whenever I publish changes to the iWeb site that it does not overwrite the Blogger Blog page - is this possible?

Keith ~ iWeb doesn't have an import capability. And even if it did, I would recommend you stick with Blogger — that way you'll avoid recurring problems such as these:
Changed theme on main blog page, lost all entries
Lost two years of blog comments
...iWeb's blog is simply not a robust one — see the following thread started by a concerned person which has a satisfactory ending with a non-iWeb blog:

I've been playing around with IWeb since I got iLife '06 on Friday. As part of this exercise I've put together a blog in which I'm commenting on the experience and the pros and cons of iWeb as a web publishing solution. Why not drop by. You might just find some helpful pointers about using iWeb.
