Blogs and iweb

Hi, I have just designed a web site with iWeb along with a Blog.
How Do I post to the blog when I'm out on my travels with my iPad?
I have just seen the wordpress application and it seems a perfect solution IF I had a wordpress blog. But surely apple owning iWeb and creating the iPad have a similar solution?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Martin.

How Do I post to the blog when I'm out on my travels with my iPad?
You can't. That's one of the limitations of an iWeb blog. IMO you would be better served creating your blog on one of the well established blogging sites like Posterius, Wordpress, Blogger.com, Joomla.com, etc. These will let you manage your blog from any computer or mobile device that has access to the internet.
You can embed your 3rd party blog into a web page in your site like in this demo page: Embed a Site Within an iWeb Page.
Otherwise, you will need to have a Mac computer and the domain.sites2 file that you use to create and maintain your web site with iWeb.

You haven't a problem. You simply did not read the iWeb Help :

  • Can I download an iWeb site so that I can change the html? I need to add a better blog and also some SEO.

Can I download an iWeb site so that I can change the html? I need to add a better blog and also some SEO.

Where is your site hosted? If it's hosted on MobileMe you can use SEO to edit the site online.  No need to get it locally.
If the site is hosted with a 3rd party fpt client then publish your site to a folder on your hard drive, use SEO on it there and then upload the site to your server with a 3rd party ftp client.
What do you mean "add a better blog"?

  • Why is iWeb posting both my blog and the individual entries

My problem is the the items I want to delete have somehow been uploaded as individual pages AND as part of our blog "At Home in Milwaukee."
    Example:
    in iWeb I have
    At Home in Milwaukee
    Entries
    Archive
On .Mac, after I publish I get
    At Home in Milwaukee
    Once an Eagle
    Sandra’s Trudy Blu...
    Sandra’s Trudy Blu...
The bottom three items are the last three entries in the blog.
Since these pages are all part of the blog; if I delete them in iWeb, they will be deleted from the blog. Every time I add a new entry to the blog, it uploads as part of the blog AND as a separate page. I have no idea why it is doing this or whether it is occuring in .Mac or iWeb. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Sandra

i tried to search for other posts but came up with nothing.
That's odd, this question gets answered several times a day.
iWeb always creates this structure, that's how it has worked for over 3 years now. You seem to have chosen to make your sitename, blog, and pagename all identical to you personal domain name. I think that is not a great idea. At least your sitename and pagenames are still under your control. Change them to "jh" and "blog" or whatever you want to avoid some of the ugly duplication.
If you don't want to see your sitename in the browser address bar, you can manually remove that folder, but any RSS Subscribe links will not work then.
The url of your site that you give to people is of course just www.myname.com.

  • IWeb's blogs and Apple's weblog server

Has anyone looked at the use of iWeb/blogs and Apple's web log server app on the server side? The more I use iWeb for a personal project on my .mac acct, I think about using it in commbination with our Apple Xserve/ OS X Server at work. But the two (iWeb and OS X Server weblog server) seem like conflicting applications? Comments?

acct, I think about using it in commbination with our

You should be able to use iWeb blogs on your own server, but you won't be able to have comments and attachments, those functions are disable when you publish to a folder.
Comments and attachments use some special webojbect+ js, append the following to your summary or .Mac blog page and you'll see what I mean.
    blog_page.html?wsc=enrty.js
    blog_summary.html?wsc=summary.js

  • IWeb, Blogging and Comments when using a different Host

    Hi
I have an iWeb site, using Google Domain name, and hosting services of Network Solutions. I want to add a Blog to my site but allow for comments. Currently, iWeb is telling me that comments are added only if I use my MobileMe account. Is there a way to have a blog in iWeb, publish through my current host and have a comment feature that will update properly without kinks? I am considering using Blogger (Google) but unsure of what to do. Any suggestions or realities are accepted! Thanks

Just use Blogger or WordPress to create your blog and then you can place a link on your website to your blog. Either that or you can display your blog directly in your site by using iframe code.
Your other alternative is to use the iWeb blog and use something like http://www.intensedebate.com as a comment feature. You could include it on the same page as the blog or put it on a different page.
Personally, I don't like the iWeb blog, so I use WordPress for my blog and just keep a link to it from my site so that it goes straight to the blog and then opens in a new page.

  • RSS XML Files for a Blog and Podcast on Same Website With iTunes Feed

Does iWeb support both a separate blog and podcast on the same website feeding the Podcast to iTunes? I got my podcast going on iTunes, then it stopped working after I changed the iTunes podcast name in iWeb and didn't edit the xml file. My podcast is gone on iTunes and I can't get the xml files correct for the blog or the podcast. I'm submitting the correct URL to iTunes but iTunes continues generarting 404 errors.

No answers. Will re-post more clearly

  • What is replacing iDVD and iWeb

I noticed that iDVD or iWEB are no longer available in the App Store (If they ever were).  Does anyone know what Apple is recommending as software replacements for these  producs, or are they being up dated and not available yet?

It is now is apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple since it's reported that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.  iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ RSS Feed Widget
All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party optionsl  There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and myself have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
There's no telling how long the iLife 11 boxed disk will continue to include iWeb and iDVD but I would imagine until the current stock runs out.

  • Viewing new comments on blogs and podcasts

    Hello,
So, I open up iweb and the symbol with the number pops up on the iweb icon(which from what I've gathered is the "new comments"). Is there a way to just check the new comments, or do I have to go through my site and find them one by one. I allow comments on my pictures(as well as my blog and podcast) and I have a lot of pictures, so going through one by one to find comments doesn't seem to make much sense because it would take forever.
    Thanks for the help.
    Jimmy

I just spent a lot of time trying to figure this out myself, but I finally did.
In iWeb, look to the left side of the page names in the left hand column. You will see a blue dot next to any page with new comments somewhere within. If the comment is for a blog entry, the blue dot will be next to the main blog page. Click on "entries" under that and look for the blue dot to the left of the blog entry titles.
If the comment is on a photo, there will be a little comment icon on all photos where comments have been left. The icon is hard to see and there's no apparent way to tell which photo might have new comments that I can see, bu it's there. The icon is a little white bubble in the bottom right hand corner of the photo -- it's a bit hard to see.

  • Mobileme and iweb as a good website host

I was wondering if you guys know if mobileme is a fast website host for a popular blog, or are there faster ones. My blog www.applejunky.tv is becoming more successful and getting pretty good traffic (enough to earn a little google adsense revenue). Should I switch hosts or keep mobileme?
    Thanks
    www.applejunky.tv

If you have built your blog using iWeb you will lose the commenting feature if you publish anywhere other than MobileMe
The Apple server seems to be faster than it used to be but reliability is not its strong point and tech support is weak.
The blog is not iWeb's greatest feature and the general advice in this forum is to move to Wordpress. Lots more features, more reliable and you can publish to a better equipped hosting service.

  • Use iBog created blog with iWeb created web site?

Just began playing around with iWeb, and so far, like it a lot. But I already have a published blog using iBlog. Can I import that existing blog? Do I just link to it?
    Thx,

You can't import your iBlog created blog into iWeb, but you can create a link to it from one of your iWeb pages.

  • An iWeb blog about iWeb

I've been playing around with IWeb since I got iLife '06 on Friday. As part of this exercise I've put together a blog in which I'm commenting on the experience and the pros and cons of iWeb as a web publishing solution. Why not drop by. You might just find some helpful pointers about using iWeb.
    You'll find the blog here:

    From iWeb's Help menu...
If you don’t publish your site to MobileMe, these features are unavailable:
    • Password protection
    +*• Blog and photo comments*+
    • Blog search
    • Hit counter
    • Enhanced slideshows

  • Flash and iWeb 1.1

This is perhaps rather trivial but it's driving me mad.
I use iWeb to publish my site to a .mac account. On my main blog page I've used a basic Flash animation as the banner. As there doesn't appear to be way of adding Flash files to iWeb templates, I publish my site and then paste the HTML code for the Flash animation into the HTML page for my blog and tweek the positioning a little.
    http://web.mac.com/steveward.me.uk/iWeb/new/44DF51BA-3595-4324-A50E-3CD26918C052 /CEF6E458-27E4-41A4-B751-6D382EFEA131.html
All seems well, apart from the blog entries are shifted down leaving a two inch gap bewteen them and the text above. That's the strange thing, the text/graphics immediatey below the Flash animation are unaffected.
I've tried everything I can think of, but my knowledge of HTML is sketchy. I suspect it may have something to do with the div tags, but unpicking the iWeb generated HTML is a nightmare.
Any coders out there who may be able to offer some advice. The Flash animation appears between the <object></object> tags. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks.

Now there's a thought. I got so wrapped-up in Flash 'cos I'm just learning how to use it that I didn't think about animated GIFs. Might give that a try. I think you can publish Flash movies in GIF format.

  • Run iWeb '06 and iWeb '08 on same startup drive

Anyone else have any experience with keeping iWeb '06 and iWeb '08 on the same startup drive, to be used independently?
My iWeb '06 is loaded with dozens (and dozens) of thirty-party templates that cannot be imported into iWeb '08 (ie 11Mystics, etc). Meantime, I have sites originally designed in iWeb '06 that are up and running that I'm responsible for updating.
I'm gradually 1-by-1 rebuilding each of these sites in DreamWeaver - but those constructed in iWeb '06 need attention from time-to-time, and I've no time to rebuild them from scratch.
Opening any of these .sites files in iWeb '08 causes major problems, I won't attempt again. And besides, that eliminates access to the older templates that allow adding in pages like Photos, Movies, Blogs, etc. And if I'm going to take the time to rebuild, I'm going to do that in Dreamweaver.
I'd love to move ahead and utilize the possibilities for new design options in iWeb '08, but the sites built in '06 need more or less constant care & feeding.
Anyone else manage to make this work successfully?
I've considered the obvious options, such as, A. Don't; or B. Boot iWeb '06 from an external startup drive - this won't work for reasons I won't outline here or C. Compress each in disk image and de-compress each time - every time I do this, the installed templates in iWeb '06 disappear.
Thanks - suggestions welcome from those who have tried this...

    Roddy -
Thanks for responding! Absolutely I agree - not for the "sane and responsible." Which lets me off the hook. I've tried the alternatives you suggested - I have quite a few Macs running here - but I do most of the heavy lifting (graphics-wise) on a G5, so that's where I'd far prefer doing web design.
I have two internal HDs and two externals, but can't get Adobe to authorize another install on the CS3 suite - and the back n forth between Photoshop, Bridge, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and iWeb is near constant.
I had set this up on the MacBook Pro but it's driven me nuts trying to get files coordinated back and forth (at this point, I have over 20 active .Domains files I'm updating and keeping track of.) I guess my main concern was understanding what happens to the com.apple.iWeb.plist in User>Library>Preferences. I don't know what else they have in common to get mucked up (other than accidentally launching the wrong app, or clicking on an older .Domains file instead of the newer app.
Pretty soon all the older sites will have been rebuilt in Dreamweaver using CSS and I can forget all about this craziness.
And now with Leopard arriving in a week this could get really interesting.
    Thanks, Roddy!
