Blotch On Screen

Tried to use my 30GB iPod with video this morning and found there's a black splotch (kinda looks like an ink spot) in the upper right corner of the screen. The top third or so of the screen is faded and blank in spots. The bottom half is viewable, but faint. I'm guessing somehow the screen was damaged (how, I don't know). I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar problem. It's no longer under warranty. And I'm guessing it's probably going to cost more to have it fixed than it would to purchase a new one.

  • Blotch on screen, cause?

Please see the link below for a picture.
Can anyone able to help me identify what the problem is or what's caused the blotch? My phone hasn't been submerged in water or anything so I can rule out water damage. The blotch appears to be underneath the screen.

  • Display Problem on MacBook Pro 13-In:  red blotch when screen is dark/black

I've been having a really weird problem:  a red blotch near the center of my screen, visible if the screen is black, or dark background in video playback.  It's about an inch off center (right) and it look like a "T" made by a paint brush stroke.  When it first appeared (in the same spot to the left of center), Apple replaced the display (in the last year of Apple Care), and it disappeared.  It reappeared 4 weeks later as clear lines (in the same spot).  They replaced the display again, and it disappeared once again.  It happened a third time 4 months after that, and they replaced the logic board as well as the display; again, "fixed."  Here's the weirdest part:  because, after all this, the computer would not charge, they threw up their hands and gave me a brand new MacBook Pro. That was a month ago, and last night, there was the red blotch again (except now, again, just to the right of center).
I can't find anything like this (online) happening to anyone else, and so far Apple hasn't determined what they think the problem is.  I sort of feel now the problem must lie with me.  But what could I be doing?  I haven't dropped it; I'm just using it for email and reading online.
Anyone have any idea what this might be?  Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions.

I can only do wild guesses at this popint, only thing I can think of on your end is possible AC power problems, but I've not been impressed with Apple's quality since the 68K or Beige days.
THe iMac7,1 I'm on now needed repair 3 times & still scares me with it's PSU temps.

  • Re: Red vertical lines on screen???

i just had a hinge replaced on first generation 15" unibody(2008) model. get home and i have red vertical blotches on screen. the red blotches are worse when there is black. i don't have applecare so i'm going to a local guy. the screen had stopped working because of hinge. i bought the hinge on ebay and didn't end up needing it BUT now my display is screwed. should i replace inverter cable? where can i buy one? thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You might check ifixit for inverter cables:
    http://www.ifixit.com/search?x=0&y=0&text=inverter+cable#20
PowerBook Medic is another possible source.
Not sure just which cable you might need--probably see what went through the broken hinge and what is damaged. I believe there is also a LVDS cable as well as an inverter cable. The LVDS cable carries video data, and the inverter cable controls the backlight and brightness.
Check also with whoever repaired the hinge. There may be a warranty on the repair which might cover the cable.
    Good luck!

  • Issue with Macbook Pro (Screen Blotches)

I've got these issues with my screen, these bright marks appear when the screen displays dark colours, and I don't understand what's causing them.
I've got pictures of the problem here.

    http://s891.photobucket.com/albums/ac118/zupnik/?action=view&current=screen2.jpg
You can even see black dots in the actual marks themselves which I don't particularly understand. But will this be covered under my warranty? I haven't spilt anything on my Macbook and it hasn't suffered any knocks that I'm aware of.
I've checked the forums, but the other "blotches" which are mentioned are seen in light colours, whereas I can't see them at all in light colours.
    Please give me some advice.
    Thanks,
    Anthony

  • Green-ey/White-y blotches around perimeter of screen when displaying black

Just re-hooked up my imac g5 which i sold to my dad 9months ago - in that time he hasnt used it! i know kinda what was the point in buying it! so rather than leaving it to rot in a corner, ive set it up so that i can watch the off dvd etc... (i now use a 17' powerbook for all my work)
i put on 24 and immedietly notice subtle light blotches around the perimeter of the screen when in black. Almost light green/white colour.
i dont remember noticing this before... perhaps the screen is on its way out? i still have 2 months left of the apple care so at least i can get it repaired if a major problem.

    anyone got any ideas?
to narrow it down a bit, i think its the light emission that is causing it around the perimeter of the screen.

  • How to fix green screen blotches on teeth in imovie 10.0.7

There are green blotches on the individual's teeth from the green screen used.  I need to know how to fix in imovie 10.0.7.

"Did you have spinach for dinner?" ... SCNR!
And such a nice smile, 'priceless' and most probably not to be re-done, right?
sorry, to say, but that reaches the limits of lil' iMovie.
You can not manually adjust the color-key in iMovie, as you can do in FCPX, nor does it offer any 'masking' features as Motion would...
.. FCPX offers a 30d free and fully functional (no watermarks etc) trial ... but then you have to learn how to handle color-key in that pro app ... which is not a beginners task ...

  • Dirty Black Blotches inside my brand new iMac screen, behind the glass

My brand new 21 inch iMac has some blotches in the screen. I didn't notice at first because my wallpaper is very colorful and has some blotch designs on it, but I opened a textedit document and the blotches are very visible on the plain white background. I tried wiping the surface of the glass with the cloth that comes in the iMac box only to discover that the blotch marks are BEHIND the glass!
Please HELP! :-O I tried calling the 1-800 apple support number for my country (Philippines) but the number doesn't work or is not supported by my phone company or mobile phone company. I took a picture of the defects and was hoping to email it to apple, but I cannot find a proper support email address on the apple.com site. Is there a way to attach them to this forum thread? It is quite frustrating and I don't know what to do.
What steps should I take to remedy this?

  • Screen blotches

    Hello,
I have had my phone for 6 months now and I have noticed that the screen gets ghosty blotches all along the bottom right above the gesture area. I thought that maybe after owning the device for a while they would go away but to they have not.
I was just curious how I could get this repaired under the 1 year warranty? My phone has never been dropped or damaged in any way and I own this device for another 1.5 years due to the 2 year contract so I would like to get this fixed before the warranty expires.
    Thanks

  • White blotches on iBook screen

I have a frustrating problem with my iBook and I was hoping you might be able to give me some general advice.
I first noticed a few months ago that some faint, cloudy blotches were appearing in the center of the computer’s screen. There are two now, one quite noticeable and the other slightly more faint. Because my warranty ends in February, I took the iBook to a Genius Bar, and the representative there confirmed that my warranty was in effect and sent the computer to Apple for maintenance. After waiting more than two weeks, I finally received a call from Apple, asking me if their “quote” of $775 for repairs was acceptable—if not, they would ship the iBook back to me immediately. When I asserted that the warranty should cover the repairs, I was informed that they had chalked the problem up to “accidental damage”, thus excluding it from the warranty.
I was shocked. After all, my iBook problem seems identical to the issue that plagued the screens of certain Powerbooks, which Apple replaced without charge. (see www.apple.com/support/powerbook/displayprogram).
I have tried the "rubbing" remedy suggested in a reply to a December 17 post on this forum, but to no avail. My questions are: Is there a more effective way to address this problem with Apple? (I realize this might be outside the purview of this forum) and, if I can’t convince them, what would be the most inexpensive way fix the screen?
Thank you for any help you can provide!

Hey BC and welcome to Apple Discussions,
from Apple, asking me if their “quote” of $775 for repairs was acceptable
That seems outrageous but then the screen is around $300 and Apple has a flaat rate of $3xx.
“accidental damage”, thus excluding it from the warranty.
Yes,never seen that on an iBook. I have it here on the one I'm on but that was sent to me from the west coast in an unprotected box.
seems identical to the issue that plagued the screens of certain Powerbooks, which Apple replaced without charge.
That looks clearly to be an issue of connectors putting pressure on the display. You can see that in the pattern.
Apple is a corporate entity. I've repaired client's equipment that was on recall but I had to do the research myself and point them to the website.
if I can’t convince them, what would be the most inexpensive way fix the screen?
Buy a used screen and have someone replace it or do it yourself.
    Are you near Chicago?

  • White screen with black lemon-shaped blotches over purple "linen" like pattern on start-up

Computer was working without problem at shut down. When I tried to power up this AM I got a split scene (diagonal) with what may be best described as a jersey cow on the left and upper half of the screen and a light purple screen with green, black and vertical and horizontals lines. The lines show up on the white backgrouns also.  I have tried several restarts using both battery and power cord. I have also tried f10 depressed - no changes.

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and issues a white screen with blotches on the startup screen. Try performing a hard reset.  When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.  I hope this helps you out.
    Thanks.

  • Blotch on my 13 inch macbook pro screen non retina

i have a black blotch on my 13 inch non retina macbook pro mid 2012. the warranty expires in august. Since I requested for this mac from my relatives, i dont have a reciept but the waranty shows on apple's site. i paid for the mac and i live in a country where there is no apple authorized dealer. the closest i can get to is malaysia. will the warranty be covered there. if yes  then will they repair it or will there be an option for refund???
i really need help with this

    Apple warranty coverage is international.
The AppleCare Protection Plans for Mac and iPod provide global repair coverage. If you take your Apple hardware with you when you travel and happen to need repair service, you can either go to an Apple Retail Store or contact Apple for information on how to obtain service. Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. Service options, parts availability, and response time vary according to country. Please see the AppleCare Protection Plan Terms and Conditions for complete details.
