Blotches on display due to pressure

I was going to search for this first and then add to an existing topic (sure there must be one), but since the search facility has disappeared.....
I'm now on my second replacement screen for a 15" MacBook, which has been due to strange blotches appearing on the screen, a little like fingerprints, and more noticeable against a white background. These were in the centre and were a massive distraction when working on graphics etc.
When I last picked up my Mac, the guys at the service centre stated that they'd appeared due to pressure against the screen when the lid is closed. I cycle with my Mac, but it's in a very, very well padded Crumpler rucksack. It couldn't be any more protected.
The engineer showed me the insides of another screen/lid which had five or six little white pads surrounding the apple logo, and said that it was the pressure of these on the screen that had caused the marks.
This was only a couple of months ago and i'm now starting to very faintly see two more marks appearing on my brand new screen!
Can't complain about the AppleCare service when it came to the replacement, but how many times are they prepared to change this screen... is this something I've just got to accept?? I'm really looking after my Mac, I love this machine, but sometimes I despair about the quality of some of the components (and Apple's updates (10.5.3 for killing my Airport for example)).
Any comments/advice?

it is fairly new, better than my last bag, which was also good, but the problem occurred nonetheless. this crumpler bag couldn't be better padded, and the MacBook is meant to be portable... so what should i carry it in??

    Hi guru's,
I am facing the problem while i am displaying the asset values,i am able to create asset through as91 but when i go for awo1n system showing error" Asset values cannot be displayed due to missing"
    help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi Vyas,
I am getting error like below.
Asset values cannot be displayed due to missing texts
    Message no. AY363
    Diagnosis
The values of the selected asset cannot be displayed. Text elements are missing in logon language EN.
    System response
    Processing is terminated.
    Procedure
First, check if you are logged on in a language that is maintained for this system.
This error can also occur, if the company code of the selected asset is assigned to a chart of depreciation that is not fully maintained.
In many cases, the problem can be corrected by re-importing the missing texts from the reference chart of depreciation. You can do this using repair program RACORR14. Refer to SAP note 0773639 for more information.
    Thanks

  • Vault folder redirect cannot be displayed due to an unknown error

What happens is that on clicking on the "Vault" link in my application an error is sometimes displayed stating "the Vault folder redirect cannot be displayed due to an unknown error". If the user refreshes the page the error goes away and if they click the link again from this same browser session the error never re-appears. If the user closes this browser session, opens a new browser session and clicks on the "Vault" link again then the error message may appear once more.
I have been running the Plumtreespy diagnostic tool while clicking on this link to get some information on where the problem is occurring. I discovered that when the user is going to get the error on the webpage that some warnings are displayed in the Plumtreespy logs. These warnings are not present when the user is not going to see the error.
Here is an example of the log warnings: (Note: They always seem to start with the first warning mentioned here)

  • Portlet cannot be displayed due to unknown error

In our application we are getting Error, "portlet cannot be displayed due to unknown error" from ALUI portal. There is no enough informaiton apart from this. This error is not consistent, can happen any time.
Can you please advice what could be the cause?
    Thanks,

Start the "BEA Ali Logger service" on your portal server machine. Then when the problem occurs you can analyze \bea\alui\ptlogging\logs\portal\portalserver-log.spy to find out more information about what might be causing the problem. You can also set up a wireshark network capture log using the ringbuffer mode which lets you collect logs in a loop. This way if there are network issues you can find out about that too. If you're not comfortable setting these up or analyzing them an oracle support engineer can assist you if you open a case.

  • Blotch on display

In the lower left hand side of my display there is a redish (when on a white background) blotch, that is see through, but reveals an uneven color quality on my screen, how can I fix this, or should I return my whole laptop?

I have a similar issue. On the menubar at the top of my 13" Macbook Pro, there's a reddish tint towards the right of the screen and a few pixels that appear slightly "blocky". The tint makes the color of the menu bar inconsistent from left to right.
I got mine right around Thanksgiving, but it looks like I'll be needing to take a trip to the Apple store...

  • Jittery display due to network delay for streamType=live

    Hi,
We are using OSMF(Strobe Media Player) that becomes jittery as the network delay between the player and the publisher of the livestream increases. A Red5 media server publishes the RTMP stream produced by an ffmpeg instance to the player.
When the player and Red5 are in the same room, the video display is smooth; when the client is in a different room (same building), the video either displays faster or it freezes and when it recovers, it displays faster than normal.
We believe this is due to our inappropriate values for our player settings.
    Our settings are as follows:
    bufferTime=0
    initialBuffer= 0
    expandedBuffer=0
    optimizedBuffering =false
When buffering is inactive, the display becomes faster than normal.
When we allow buffering, the display keeps on freezing and then displays faster when it recovers.
Any and all suggestions are much appreciated.
    -- Sumita

    Hi,
You should be able to find the default parameter values in setup.html.
For live, it is liveBufferTime or liveDynamicStreamingBufferTime, depending on the type of your asset.
My suggestion is to start from 4-10 seconds and tweak from there.

  • Repairing display due to dead pixels

ive had my 2nd 30in display and now seeing 4 -5 dead pixels ... due to the type of work i do the positioning of these are VERY annoying. I spoke to AC and they are willing to repair my display meaning that the casing will remain the same but i guess the guts are to be changed. What are the experiences of anyone who has had this done? Wondering if i should just push for a totally new display however i guess the down side would be getting a display that is worse. would like to hear from anyone who has had this done.

    Hello
I had 6 dead pixels on my macbook pro screen. I was quite annoyed about it.
After a huge research I did find solution. At least you can try it is for free
It is a small Jawa applet which flickers and can unstuck pixels.
I had 6 dead pixels. After using this flickering applet for 10 minutes 4 of the pixels disappeared They were in the center of the screen.
The last two are placed on the top of the screen. On the top dock where the blue apple is. Fortunately there is no way I know about how to hide this dock. Therefor stuck pixels remain. (if you know how to get this flickering applet over entire screen please let me know, the videos on the website did not work for me)
Anyway check this website and good luck, Hope it helps.

  • No display due to long running Actions

    Hi,
I have a small issue in my application.
Please help providing the solution for the following problematic scenario faced in my application.
My project is generally a report generation project,
arch used: our-own architecture(similar to struts)
    Server: deployed in tomcat server..
On clicking a button from X.jsp, it triggers the action with the request = REQ1
so in my configuration Xml file it checks for it and executes the corresponding Action classes and it should display the Presentation(Jsp)
What happens is , the action class execution is taking more than 10 min, becaz of which i am getting blank screen.
From the action to jsp , it is executing without any error, which i could see in the log files..
    Actions taken:
improved the performance of the query, but cudnt reduce much time..
session time is 180min, and connection timeout set to an hr. - No change- It seems this doesnt have to do anything with this.
    my Observance:
I guess, as per arch, it is executing till jsp, but it seems that HttpRequest is getting timedout becaz of long running actions.
Please help to find the cause and approach method to resolve this issue.
Note: no issues to wait till 10min.. but need to get the values (reports) in the screeen..
    Thanks in advance.....

    Design is inappropriate.
Long running processes, and specifically reports, shouldn't rely on session connections.
Instead the following should be done.
    - Process initiation (user request), post a task request to a task request queue. Return a unique identifier to requestor.
    - Separate process processes tasks in the task queue.
    - Requestor (such as a gui) periodically polls using the indentifier to see if the task is complete.
    - When the task is complete the requestor asks for the results (GUI displays them.)
The problem with extending timeouts is that there are valid error scenarios where long timeouts will mean resources not returned to the system for long periods of time when they should have been.
Per your current solution there is probably some other timeout somewhere. Could be several. The JSP forum might be a better place to ask where all of the possible timeouts could be.

  • Slow Display due to LCD?

    Hi fellow Developers out there...
I have just written a VERY simple game, that displays a ball running over a background. The code was inspired by several other postings that I read. It all works fine (so it is displayed and the ball is moving) but if the ball moves more than 10 pixel per frame, then it gets really ugly: You can then see both sides of the ball flickering quite strongly and its not really a smooth animation.
Now my first guess was that my display was causing these smudges, because I have a Laptop and the reaction time probably isn't so great, but then the effect would look different... However I wanted to get the refresh rate of my monitor in order to sync my framerate with it, but it was zero and my system also has no information about my refresh rate (I have a mac).
The next thing I looked at was the sleep for the remaining time of the frame. I monitored the remaining time and it was nearly allways below zero. Now what am I doing wrong? It can't be so resource consuming to display two cached images...

System.currentTimeMillis() is a horrible timer, which you can't even use for measuring network latency. It's resolution equals the operating system's tick time (win9x 50-55msec, macos/win2k/winxp 10msec, linux 1msec... iirc). So yea with a basically empty loop you'll usually get 0 msec as difference here (the next bigger step is the tick interval).
There are native timer libs and well with 1.5 you have finally a usable hi res timer (System.nanoTime)... unfortunately mac's 1.5 isn't out yet.
Btw Thread.sleep isn't really accurate, too. You can get it down to about 5msec on all operating systems, but it can always take longer than that (you just tell the OS that you would like to continue your stuff in 5msecs and there is no guarantee that it will be in time).

  • Making a JSR168 Portlet not display due to auths

    Hi,
We have a portlet that we'd like to not display based on some authorization business rules. These rules are not based on portal groups (otherwise we could just set the portlet's access through the Builder UI), we need to do this check in java code. So I tried throwing both a PortletSecurityException and a PortletException but neither of these causes the portlet to not display, instead it causes an Error message inside the portlet.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to programmatically make a portlet not display?
    Thanks!

  • Is the Ipad Air's glass too thin  that it can crack due to pressure??

I have an Ipad Air and so far I love its amazing; however I am just a bit bothered by the plastic feel of the screen. I am to understand this is due to the fact that the screen is made with a thinner glass thus the plastic feel.  My concern is if the glass being thinner is it weaker or is as or stronger than   the previous models I am worried because I plan to sketch with it and I would place my palm on the screen and I don’t want to damage it .
I also  think in getting glass screen cover to protect my investment
    Thanks

Glass screen covers have been known to permanently damage the glass screen they cover.

As of today, I cannot play my movies or televison shows on my MacBook Pro. They have always played before and my software is up to date. The dialogue box shows "This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)."

    Hi, bgrieb.
Thank you for visitng Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like these shows are in a HD format and are not supported on the iPhone 3gs.  I would recommend downloading the SD version of these shows and then sync these to your device.

  • RECALL on 27" iMac Display due to Dimming?

Following is a copy of a message I sent to Apple about my iMac. I am very frustrated about this issue and I seriously think it warrants investigation, I have found many cases of this online, anyone else have this problem here?
I have had an issue with my 27" iMac display for quite some time, because I thought it was a software issue with the "auto dim" I did not notify anyone about it. however, I brought it into the Apple Store in the Domain in Austin Texas at the end of January to have the hard drive replaced under the recall. While there I mentioned to the young lady at the Genius Bar that my display would dim just slightly, and I thought it was a setting issue, she said they would look at it, but most likely it would be resolved with the replacement of the Hard drive. Ok, new hard drive, new OS, makes sense. When I returned to pick up my computer, the rep said they ran diagnostics on it and could find no problems, however when I got home, it was still happening, I took it back to the Apple store on Feb 16 and was told there was a problem with the displays and it needed to be replaced for approximately $520.00, because it was out of warranty by 134 days.  Upon further research I have found that this is not a random occurrence, and there are MANY MANY cases of this exact problem scattered throughout the forums, and Ironically they all seem to be on the left side of the screen. I find it hard to believe that a computer that costs almost $2000.00 can have a display go out in a little more than a year. I think that you should look seriously at the issues these displays are having, this should be a recall, at the very least voluntary. There is no reason that a display should fail in this amount of time.   I want you to understand, I am an Apple guy, I was born and raised on windows, but became a die hard Apple guy after  I received my first MBP as a hand me down from a friend. I have owned every single iPhone there is, Have two Mac Book Pros, iPad, six iPhones, and this 27"iMac. I am a pro photographer and this is seriously a problem. PLEASE look at this issue, I will not buy another Apple product until this is resolved. There are way too many failures out there for this to not be a defect.

I understand your frustration; however, these forums are user to user only - no Apple employees here. If you wish to contact Apple, either use any of the contacts on this page:
