Blown CPU or MB?

Hi, new here but figured I'd ask you guys since people here seem knowledgeable.  I have a MSI 890GXM-g65 Motherboard and a 1090T amd processor.  The other day while browsing the web the computer just shut off.  I am fairly computer competent, but cant seem to figure out what is wrong.  What I have come up with is either the motherboard or cpu fried.  I've unplugged everything and can't even get it to power on, the fan lights blink and then it cuts out.  The only time I get any signs of life out of it is when I unplug the JPWR2, I've pulled the processor out and smelled it, and taken a good look at it, nothing smells fried or visibly looks damaged.  So I thought it must be the motherboard,  however the motherboard does fire up when I remove the cpu power.  I unfortunately don't have another am3 processor or am3 compatible board to test the components on individually.  Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately my computer that is running has a board that wont run am3 and the processor cant be run on the MSI 860GXM-G65.  I am willing to replace part of it, but really would hate to buy the wrong part, I would still have to buy the broken component.  If I leave the JPWR2 on the Motherboard unplugged it will fire all the fans and the motherboard lights will come on.  However if I plug it in nothing happens when I hit the power, that would make me believe the processor is blown.  But when I pulled it out to look at it, it appeared fine and had no odd smell to it.  It makes me think there is a short somewhere in the power line to the processor on the board.  I don't know if there is any other way to figure out which would be the more likely component to replace...

  • [nForce] Blown CPU?

I have just tried to change my heatsink/fan as the CPU temp was running a little high. I first used thermal paste, but the system just hung with the D-bracket indicating CPU problem. I cleaned the paste from the copper and tried a thermal sticky pad. This time the pc powered of after a few seconds. this happened several times so I decided to revert back to my original heatsink which has run no problem on several systems with the origional thermal pad that came supplied on it. Now the system is hanging again as it did when i first changed heatsink (d-bracket indicating CPU problem) I have not removed the cpu at all, Is it possible it could be blown and is there anyway to check this?

Tried to run the motherboard out of the case with only memory, graphics card and cpu connected. still no joy. I know for definate that the CPU is ok cos its running happily in my sons system at the mo (his overclocked 2600 finally gave up the ghost) I have come to the conclusion that I must have a faulty mo board so have sent it back to ebuyer under warrenty. I have also asked for the replacement to be upgraded to the K7N2 Delta2 Platinum from the K7N2 Delta-ILSR I had (though I dont really know what benefits if any it will be to me      ).
I know this next bit should probably be a new thread in a different board but I was wondering as my son's xp2600 is blown weather i should upgrade and if I did which is the best cpu for power hungry 3d gaming that he is mad on, should I go for the Athlon64 and if so which mboard (socket 754 or 939), or should I go for pentium 4 or just stick to a socket A athlon/sempron

  • Problem with CPU?? need help badly

Hey guys, its been a sad two days for me.. I have the MSI k7T266 PRO, and yesterday while i was moving tires into my apartment, one of them fell hard on the floor and my computer shifted, i opened the pc to find out that the CPU fan has shifted from the cpu, and the cpu smelled kind of burnt..
Anyway i had an ATHLON XP 2200 i think...
Anyway i went to compusa today and got a new CPU, an AMD 2400+ SEMPRON PROCESSOR. i installed it, put my huge heatsink, fan, and powered up.... NO SHOW..
The Diagnostic LED's show 4 RED lights,(which according to the manual means a problem with the CPU), it was showing 4 red lights with my old blown cpu and its still showing 4 red lights with the new cpu.. im getting frustrated..
Anyway i tried resetting the bios using the JBAT jumper, it still doesnt work..
I know the new CPU is good because i can tell a blown CPU..
So can anyone help me out??

    Hello,
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/search/ser/SerConProRes.php?keyword=k7t&kind=
    Which one is yours?
The Sempron 2400+ CPU has a 166Mhz FSB.
Your board does not support this CPU.

  • Can an older processor be used if its the same speed?

I have a dual 2.0 G5 from the June 2004 bracket with a blown CPU. Can I replace it with another 2.0 from another Mac? More specifically from the previous generation. I know I'd have to have it recalibrated, but I just need to know if it would work first off. Thanks in advance.

No answers but I don't think they can because of the difference in die size. Not sure though.

  • Hp pavilion g6 dead

hi there, my laptop does not start. when i hit the power button, the power button lights up solid, the wireless button lights up solid [amber], and the caps lock button blinks slowly.what ive been reading indicates that its a blown cpu.  two questions:  1-is it worth fixing?2-how do i access the files on the hard drive and transfer them to my new hp laptop? any guidance is greatly appreciated.

It is much more likely to be the motherboard than the cpu and if you cannot do the labor yourself I think the expense for either is not going to be justified.  As far as the data on the hard drive; remove it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot8e0LKXZMo Then get a usb to SATA adapter:  http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437001103&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+to+SATA Now just plug the old drive into the usb port on your new laptop and the old drive will become available for copying and pasting files to the new laptop.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

  • Has my CPU Blown

ok i have recently just built a new pc with a 2600+ cpu, 256 ram, nvidia based K7NE Delta Series m/b and a gforce fx2500 video card. It worked fine so i built one for my friend aswell but we couldnt get his working because his cpu was faulty, i know this because i put my cpu in his pc and it worked fine. Then when i put the cpu back into my computer the power starts up but theres no picture. I have tried clearing cmos but no luck, i have also tried taken out the cmos battery and leaving it for a few mins (which i have done a few times now) but that didnt work. The thing i was thinking is that the only thing that has changed since putting it back into my comp is that i have taken out a 256 ram stick and now i only have 256 ram left, where as before i hade 512ram, could that have any effect or is there any chance that my cpu has blown.
Please help because i really cant think of anything else to try.
    Thanks for reading.

Try to put your processor into another MB and see if it is blown or not...use a board that you're SURE works...this doesn't mean that it'll for sure work properly in your old setup if it took some type of damage but it'll indicate that it still has life...

  • Have I blown My M/B and CPU

    Hi There,
Ive got the K7N2 Delta-ILSR Motherboard with a 3200 xp 400 fsb and it looks to me like I've blown them both.
I was installing the Thermaltake Aquarius 3 Water cooling system, I took the fan off and put the water block on the CPU but when I powered up the system the cooloing unit didn't work and my pc booted for about 2 seconds then shut itself down. Is this long enough to bugger both the board and CPU?
The board diagnostics Lights say the CPU is damaged but when I try an old 3000xp, which I know works, in the board that doesn't work either. The system now powers up but the monitor doesn't fire up, I've tried resetting the Cmos and the Jumper to safe mode, but nothing. Any Ideas ?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

    check all cables.
    try another gfx card.
try with only 1 stick memory
set jumper j10 and j11 to safe mode and then clear cmos.
remove battery for atleast 10 mins while doing that to do a dep clear.

  • This is a copy of my crash log....any ideas on what it means and or what the fix is?  It seems to be a CPU system failure.  Interval Since Last Panic Report:  383487 sec Panics Since Last Report:          6 Anonymous UUID:                    437D4685-6299

I have an older G5 and It has been crashing a lot lately.  Mostly when I'm using billing software or Vinyl cutting software.  It also won't launch safari and occasionally it won't launch mail.  The fan starts running faster and I get dos code that comes up on the screen over whatever program I'm running and it says:
    System Failure:cpu=0;code 1436778.
This is a copy of the error report that appears after I reboot the comp.  When I run the disk utility I don't see any problems pop up.

  • Fans (cpu/case) run 1 second then cut off, computer won't start.

Pavilion A6614F, this computer is  stock from the factory.
Orginal problem, fans would spin for 1 second, then cut off.
eliminated "Everything" from the Motherboard, same problem.
This computer was looked at by a computer shop and they couldn't fix it.
It was given to me to repair.
Power Supply checked good, but still tried new 850 w PS I had, same problem.
New Motherboard, (M2N68-LA (NARRA3)) same problem,
New Processor, Phenom 9500, in the new motherboard, same problem.
swap CPUs between Motherboards, changed battery, cleared CMOS,  no help.
this is with nothing plugged into the MB,  no USB, memory, wlan card, keyboard, mouse, "Nothing" but 4 pin cpu power and main board power plug, on/off switch.
It appear to be "shorted", but where, was the Motherboard isolate from the case by the factory, I never found any when I removed the MB.
I've checked the wires from the on/off switch to see if they were raw/shorting out, nothing that I could find.
I find it odd that the fans come on as soon as the power cord is plugged into the PS, and without pushing the start button, but they only spin for a second or two, then everything is dead.
The fan in the 850 watt PS stops spinning as well,  which makes me think it's shorted,  else why would two motherboards/CPU exhibits the same problems,
and what occurred with the original Motherboard that created the problem???
I even tried running the MB outside of the case and on the desk, no luck.
I've builded/repaired more computers than I care to remember, but this one is a major problem,
If this motherboard was not isolated from the case, ( it is not now ) or the on/off switch not bad,
It's possible I could have gotten a bad MB or CPU, but since the symtoms haven't changed, I don't think that is likely.
Any "suggestions",  short of using it for target practice. lol

The original PS is working, light stays on after fans stop spinning.
I'm checking with a friend who may have a MB these CPU will fit in to see if they're working OK,
and maybe a  CPU  that is known to be working to try in these two MB,
That's about the only way I have of checking the MB and CPUs.
I've made a visual check of all Capacitors, none seems to have "blown their top".
I may not have made it clear in my first post, but the fans start to spin as soon as the power is applied to the PS, and this is without anything connected to the MB, not even the on/off switch, but they still spin for a second or so.
I don't know if this is a characteristic of all AMD MB, or a symptom of the problem.
If it was just a voltage surge to charge up the capacitors, then cut off, I could under stand it,
I mounted the old MB/CPU in another case but got the same results.
Personally, I'm as Intel man myself, and have a wide varity of intel MB/Sockets to check most of their products,
I've never liked AMD, and finding more justification for that everyday.
I appreciate the suggestions and help, if you have any other suggestion, I'd appreciate them too, I've ran out. LOL
When I do find the problem, and I will, sooner or later, I'll come back and let everyone know, I'd hate to see anyone else in this predicament.
    Thanks again.

  • Cpu dead?

I've slightly overclocked my cpu using the stock heatsink a [email protected] using a K8N Neo and was playing need for speed when suddenly the system switched off (usual temps are 40 idle and around 50 load max). Now i can't boot the system, it just switches itself off 2 seconds after i power the system on. Nothing comes up on screen either :( grrr. The system powers on but the d-led shows four reds so i guess the the cpu is not detected/blown, tried reseting cmos, etc  so must be the cpu.. Just wondering if anyone has RMA'd a cpu that they've used for overclocking? I've applied arctic silver on the stock cooler so if i clean it will they find out?? Only had the CPU for just over a month.. Damn.

we know nothing of your system except you have a 3000 and a k8n

  • Power Failure: cpu=1; code=00000008 (unaligned stack)

    I have a Quicksilver 2002 DP 1.0GHz.
System Profiler reads it as a DP 733GHz about 50% of the time and a DP 1.0GHz the other 50%.
It always has a screen freeze about 4-5 min after startup.
I reset the processors; nothing changed.
But now I'm getting some system failures at bootup:
Power Failure: cpu=1; code=00000008 (unaligned stack)
and something about waiting for the debugger.
Anyone have an idea where the is?
    Thanks,

Yesterday my computer blacked out, like the circuit had blown but no. I put my hard drive into another G4, Dual 1.25 Mirror. It's a 120 G drive, running 10.4, current Safari. I ran Tech Tools and Disk Warrior and everything seems fine with it. But as I tried to lauch iTunes, it acts as though I’m loading a new version, asking me to accept the terms of the software. I canceled. Wierd. I purchased and downloaded an audio book from Audible yesterday and synced my ipod which received it. In iTunes info it gives that time as when iTunes was changed. It's wierd enough to wonder about a bug. Otherwise this hard drive acts fine.
Any ideas? Much appreciated. The original computer that I'd like to fix is still blacked-out although as long as I hold the button, it lights. I zapped the PRam but have no other ideas. Thanks for any ideas.

HI AND THANKS. I HAVE JUST DISMANTLLED MY SONS PC AND PUT IN THE RAM AND THE CELLERON CPU 2.0 GHZ 400FSB 128KB CACHE (THIS WASNT THE ONE IN THE BOARD WHEN IT HAPPENED) THIS WAS A TESTER REPLACEMENT FOR MY BOARD ITS THE LOWEST CPU THAT WILL FIT MY BOARD. THE ORIGINAL 2.8 P4  PRESCOT IS TOO BIG FOR MY SONS BOARD, SO I CANT TEST THE 2.8 IN THAT. BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE BOARD HAS GONE AND NOT EFFECTED THE CPU. HOWEVER. DO MSI TAKE THE BOARDS BACK DIRECTLY OR DOES THE RETAILER HELP. MY BOARD IS OVER 2 YEARS OLD NOW. ONE OTHER PROBLEM AS YOU ALL WELL KNOW. I HAVE ALL MY OPERATING SYSTEM PHOTOS AND EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN ON MY HARD DRIVE, AND PLUGGING IT INTO ANOTHER DIFFERENT MOBO WILL PROBABLY MEAN REINSTALLING OR WILL I BE ABLE TO BOOT FROM CD WITH MY XP SYSTEM DISC AND REPAIR THE WINDOWS INSTALLATUION WHICH WILL LEAVE ALL MY FILES INTACT I HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE WITH OTHER PC'S BUT I DIDNT NEED TO RECOVER ANY DATA OFF THEM. OR WILL I HAVE TO FIND THE SAME MOBO SO MY HARD DRIVE RECOGNISE'S THE CHIP SET AND WILL WORK AGAIN

  • Cannot Increase CPU Multiplier - Help?

    Here's my problem:
I've unlocked the CPU Multipliers on my AMD XP-1600+ by
connecting the L1 bridges.  System boots & runs OK with
stock (10.5 x 133) multiplier value (I'm running that right
now).  I can also reduce the multiplier (10 x 133).
    When I try to increase it (11 x 133) the system won't
POST; I have to power-off/on (then I get to re-enter ALL
    BIOS data). javascript:smilie('X(')
    Mad
Can anyone give me a clue what's wrong?  Have I blown
the unlocking; will my mobo just not support increased
multipliers...??  I've had the system running stable @ 148
Mhz FSB before unlocking it (and at least 140 Mhz after).
    Here is my H/W setup:
    KT7266-Pro (6380) Ver 1.0 mobo with Ver 1.9 BIOS
    Ver 4.43 4-in-1 Drivers, Ver 30.82 Detonator.

Thanks for the reply wonkanoby - yes, I did;  first cleaned
out the 'ash' then filled them with JB-Weld.
This is the 2nd time I've tried unlocking.  The first time, the
BIOS reported clock speed as 1200 Mhz no matter what I
did.  Well, I hope the 3rd time does it - that's a bloody
tedious job, even with a 5x 'hands-free' magnifier.
BTW, what do you recommend for removing rear-window
de-fogger paint?  I've been using acetone.

  • Blown PSU K8T Neo

My PSU blew just after building new system possibly down to faulty PSU and having replaced it I am getting CPU temps too high to use the PC (120c). How do I know if the blown PSU has done lasting damage to motherboard and or CPU
Thermal contact between the CP and fan is good, CPU and system fans seem to be working fine. MBM reporting temps in Centigrade. I think all of the cables are connected OK
When I boot the computer I get the message no device found, no bios installed.
many thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Hi
First ' no bios installed' refers to the promise controller not finding a drive connected to SER1 or 2, simply go into Bios, integrated peripherals, PCI onboard controller, then P20738 controller (promise) and disable it. ESC and save.
120 deg must be F not C, the CPU would shut down at 65C to save damage.
Whats the C reading, should be about Sys 37 - 42C  : CPU 40- 62C (depends on load and ambient temp).  Lowering the Vcore from 1.55v to 1.425v will drop CPU temp by 5C without losing performance.
If your comp is working chances are you got away with it, but you are lucky, MOBO, CPU and RAM along with any running drives are usual victims
Make sure you get a proper PSU, Enermax 465 or Aspire 500 or similar.
Ebuyer stuff is OK, but 17amps on the +12v is not. you want over 24 (18 absolute minimum barebones) for safety, over 30 to run it well. Thats with your gear as above.
    Cheers
    jocko

  • Blown PSU

    Hello everyone!
I have a Lc Power scorpio  480w PSU and today it decided to blow up   when I was installing Vista ( I've heard vista is too much power consuming but jeez....  ... just kidding). Its the second PSU that burned like that in 2 years. Is it possible that it happened becouse any problem with my mainboard?? Its the second one that I have since the first mainboard simply died just a bit before my first blown PSU. I sure hope that my mainboard is ok and my cpu also... Any idea why this happened??
what gets me fustrated is that my PSU waranty expired 15 days ago
This is my oldy rigg that the PSU used to powerup:
Msi k8n neo platinum socket 754
    2 gb kingston pc400 ram
    80 gb sata hd
    120 ide hd
ati radeon 9600 xt grafics card
    athlon64 2800+ processor
    hp dvd writer
    philips dvd writer
and this was my older psu that has blown up too: revoltec power supply 450 watts 25 amps in 12v rail
    Thanks in advance for help!

No, its pretty normal with those cheap PSUs..
Go for decent one like Corsair 450TX,550TX,650TX,750TX,850TX  quality PSUs single rail.
