Blown speakers?

So I was playing music on my macbook with the volume up all the way. I don't usually do this, just maybe a couple times a year. It was fine for a while, but after about a half hour i got this really ugly buzz with the music. After doing some research, I discovered it was probably a blown speaker. I restarted my laptop with the volume all the way up and it buzzed during the startup noise. Then I tried playing music at a lower level while moving the slider from left to right in the sound tab in the system preferences window... it's slightly quieter on the left than the right, but it still plays alright on both left and right. Do I have a blown speaker? If so, will Apple Care cover it? How much will it cost to get it fixed?
Thanks in advance.

Make an appointment with the genuis bar at your local Apple retail store or at your local AASP and they will answer these questions for you.

  • Sound Blown?

I've been using an old speaker set of Harman Karmon's for about 3 months, most of the time the device is plugged into my macbook (july 2012 purchased new just downloaded Mavericks) and I usually am always playing my Spotify music through the speakers from the computer. The other day I was on a website (Tumblr) and clicked on an audio post while music was still playing from my Spotify. All of a sudden the sound just stopped. I haven't been able to get any sound out of the computer since and it has been almost an entire day without sound. There is no red LED emitting from the headphone jack, and everything seems to look okay in my System Preferences/ Sound area and have looked into it trying to fix it but I am so scared that I blew my speakers. I heard no crackling or any sort of sympton of blown speakers it just seemed to just give up playing music or anything that emits sound for that matter.
Can anyone help me ? I am so scared that I fried something

  • Hacking Apple Pro Speakers

    hi all,
yah all know the Apple Pro Speakers (eye balls). They have that silly 1.2mm minijack and won't work with standard minijack plugs. They are apparently powered by the sound card in those machines they were intended for but not my old GigaBot Ethernet G4. I knew this when i bought them at a garage sale but as they were so cheap I could not help myself. So... there was a work around Griffin Tech came up with that drew 5v power from the Firewire connection while sound came thru via the standard mini jack... odd but it seems to have worked.
In order to work around this has anyone hacked these things? Two wires into the cones... can they be spliced into an alternate amp like my old Altec-Lansing... cut the wires and splice them together? Anyone try this?

    Thnx again.
I am watching the ebay auctions.... the iFire seems to be something that lots of folks want... so the price is silly.
I have the cases open on my desk. Tonight I am going to snip off the apple wires at the speaker and run some of my own to an old AltecLansing amp (blown speakers). I am going to wire in the AltecLansing speaker control in a litttle seperate box. I think it should work.

  • Dv6-6145dx no sound from speakers...

Audio from headphone works just great, but the speakers don't produce any sound. I've ran the windows audio troubleshooter to no avail. I've reinstalled the drivers but it was a no go too. Has anyone experienced this problem? The weirdness is this laptop has 4 speakers...1 bar on the front and one just below the lcd neither produce sound. I wouldn't know how to check for blown speakers but it sure is looking that way. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52658.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have any audio through the internal speakers.

I bought a third party bluetooth adapter for my car stereo. Hooking it up with any other device ( other mp3 players, my husband's windows phone ) all work and stream music. Pairing it with my iphone 5 causes constant crackling and static like blown speakers. Same with the ipod touch. Is there a setting in the phone that will fix this?

  • My iMac spontaneously lost all audio!

Went to bed it was working fine, woke up this morning and no audio. When I go to Settings the only option is Digital out - Optical digital out. No more built-in and no more speakers. I do hear the start-up chime, so I know it's not blown speakers. Any ideas how to get back my internal speakers?
    Thanks!

    My Product Details:
Product Name: HP pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
    Product Number: QJ912AV#ABA
OS Installed: Windows 7 64 bit

How long have you been without sound?  When did you first notice it?  Do you remember if you installed any updates or programs just before it happened?  I guess we could consider taking off the case and start checking for lose connections or blown speakers. I do think you should maybe try to reinstall the HP sound drivers one more time and make sure no other sound software is installed in add/remove software from your control panel.

  • Scratchy sound quality

I have a 30GB iPod and it has terrible sound quality. The music sounds staticky -- or as if it's being played through blown speakers. I've played it through three different sets of headphones and two home stereos, and they all sound the same -- crackly. Here's the rub: The songs that sound scratcy on my iPod also sound scratchy when played through iTunes on my laptop. And it doesn't matter what the original source was. Some soungs I've downloaded sound like this, as do songs I've burned from CDs.
Not sure if this is related, but the sound is also fairly muffled. When I play it through my home stereo (which is fairly high-end) I have to crank up the mid-range on the EQ to hear vocals clearly.
    What the ...?
    30

Wow! The EQ really *****, doesn't it? Turning it off made a huge difference. The sound was so bad beforehand that it wasn't even listenable.
The crackling sound is now gone. The mid-range is still kind of dull, but at least it's all clean now.
    Thanks.

  • HP Pavilion DV 7 6101eg sound problem - very urgent!

    The problem is this:
I bought a couple of days the new hp 6101eg, worked fine, until it crashed ingame while playing Assassins Creed... anyhow, since than, the audio from the internal speakers wont work UNLESS the headset is also plugged into ANY of the 3 jacks (mic, 2x headset). I formated the computer twice, reinstalled drivers, been through hell and back and dont know what else to do... the jacks werent dirty or anything that putting in and out the headset would solve... the speakers arent broken, they work when the headset is in... also the sound indicator bar is jumping up and down when im playing videos and where there should be sound. The driver IDT high definition audio CODEC is properly installed, no !!! in device manager... i really dont know what to do.
If anyone can help me, i would be very thankful.

    Hey Treaty,
Sorry to hear about this - sound problems are horrible.  I don't know anything about your system, so this may be a wild-duck chase:  check the BIOS to make sure something didn't get turned off when the system blew up the first time.  I'm not sure that reformatting the OS would reset the BIOS.  At boot, tap F10 to get to the BIOS...
If you reinstalled your system - do you have the latest IDT driver?
This youtube page comments hint that there are issues with version conflicts.
(There are other Assassin pages to check...read the comments, too - they are sometimes useful...)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VpzjdELQ40
Check game-side.  I've read a couple of places that if things go south during game play that the sound setting has to be checked on the game side - if you have game sound control of some sort, check there.  I realize the game has to have been reinstalled when you rebuilt your computer:  If you had "saved" game parameters, maybe there was something in there that was held over?  Sorry, I'm not an "Assassin".  It is, admittedly, a long shot - it's better than blown speakers.
I guess, if there is such a thing, you've checked the "Assassin's" website...
    Good Luck!
    I hope something here helps.

  • A8N32 SLI Deluxe new Bios 1

I don't own an external sound card but have been following the discussions for some time as I own a Asus A8N32SLI NForce4 with 77900GT x2 and 4GB RAM 4800+ x2 dual core. Hi?Ive got a Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI (F9 latest bios)?with XP3500, 2xGb DDR, GeForce 7900GS, 2xSata Raid dri'ves, and an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card. (So have the nforce 4 chipset like your system)?Latest drivers, bios, everything. Im getting the crackle, except it is barely ever clear it just sounds like frying chicken or as though Im playing it through blown speakers. EDIT: I have played Battlefield 2 on Ultra High setting and?here?is my?DPC latency screenshot.
(Link does not work)?I have posted my results to Gigabyte to see what they have to say regarding the matter, as my latency averages at 500 microseconds, I think creative mention 60 microseconds for the X-Fi to operate. If the link does not work then if someone wants to host it then let me know.Message Edited by mi6chap on 2-2-20062:43 AM

Obvious power issue effecting all back plane jks. Popping HOURLY (clocked) thru speakers, lites up lamp on doc scanner. Has blown power supply once. "Genius" diag NTF twice B4 power supply blew. Still have same trouble. I made very CLEAR to Genius Bar that it was a hardware issue after they continued to trouble shoot software. I was referred to tier 2 who told me they only worked on SOFTWARE. Does anyone know a more qualified shop who can fix an OBVIOUS mother board issue tracing back to the power supply? I had the same issue with a 20" with 7 visits & had to literally take a video of the trouble before they could figure out the trouble was the video card. From reading the sheer number of posts of the same trouble descriptions going back to 2007, it's all too obvious the path to MSFT is being taken.

  • S750 Problem... Speakers sound blown... but they aren't? I dont' get it. Please help.

Okay, I am completely confused here. This just started happening today. My left rear speaker, and side right speaker are all cringly and sound like they are blown. I know they aren't blown though, because if I switch say the rear left speaker into the front speaker port they sound just fine. So I don't get it. Any speaker I plug into the side right or rear left port makes the speaker sound terrible though. Is something wrong with my subwoofer? I've tried everything to fix this, but have had no luck.
If it is messed up will Creative replace it for free? Also, I'm using the Creative XFI XtremeMusic sound card with this system.

I would highly recommend creative support as your first call here. As a simple test, try swapping the rear/front inputs around. If the crinkly sound still comes through the same speakers then give them an email. I cant promise a replacement (because i dont work for creative) but in my experience the support has been great.

  • I have an iPhone 4, and when I plug any headphones in, including the new apple ones, they just sound like the speakers are blown, but when I pull the jack out a little bit they sound fine?

I don't know what to do, considering I just bought these headphones and it's the phone which will not let them play. Any help?

Could be a contact problem. There are certain places inside the headset port where proper contact is needed for the various functions the Apple headset has, for example the Remote/microphone unit that cheaper headphones don't have.
You should have your phone checked by an Authorized Apple Service provider or by visiting an Apple Store next to your place.
