Blu ray burner replacement for Envy 17 dvd burner

Hi All,
I would like to replace the DVD burner in my Envy 17 laptop with a blue ray burner, if possible. The DVD burner model is  HP GU70N. Does anyone know if that can be done, and if so, suggestions on burner model, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Replace W520 Sony Optiarc AD-7710H DVD Burner with Sony Optiarc BD-5750H Blu-ray Burner?

I am planning on replacing the DVD burner which shipped with my W520 (4270CTO) with a Blu-ray burner.  Evidently not all W520s ship with the same drives.
Does anyone know whether the front bezel on the W520 is the same for the two Sony Optiarc drives mentioned above?  If not, which Blu-ray burners can accept the W520 front bezel from the Sony Optiarc AD-7710H, which is the drive my machine shipped with?
    Thank you!

I think you swap the bezels. I did with mine.

  • DVD & Blu Ray Burner Drive Trays Do Not Stay Open When Media is in the Drive

I have a problem with both Windows 8/8.1 and the Windows 10 Technical Preview (there is no issue when I run Windows 7).
I have 2 optical drives: 1) DVD Burner and 2) Blu Ray Burner (I just got the second drive a few weeks ago). They are attached to the secondary SATA Chip (see below for specifics).
The problem I'm having is that when I eject media from either drive, the drive does not stay open, but rather immediately closes. Before I got the Blu Ray Burner, I had this problem with just the single DVD Burner by itself. I was hoping when I installed
Windows 10 Technical Preview that this problem would not be present, but it is present in that O/S as well.
This problem will repeat continuously if I attempt to use the eject button and so I either have to grab the disc while the tray is moving, or if I press the eject button again on the drive at the right time, I can get it to re-open and not close (this
is tricky to get the button timing right as it seems like it has to be done close to when the drive tray is fully extended when it starts retracting). It usually takes me 5 to 10 button presses to get it to stay open. Sometimes it will stay open for about
0.5 to 1s before it closes again, but most of the times it just immediately closes. I also have the same problem if I use the software eject feature by right clicking on the drive and choosing eject.
Of course, the expected behavior is that pressing the eject button should open the tray, but not close it immediately allowing you to remove the disc.
Here is some background information about my system and how the drives are connected:
    1. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-ED3P Revision 1.0 LGA 775
    2. Interface (for both drives): Gigabyte SATA II Chip - 2 x SATA 3 GB/s connectors (GSATA2_0, GSATA2_1) supporting up to 2 SATA 3 GB/s devices
    3. Memory: 8 GB (4 x 2 GB)
It should be noted that I tri-boot between Windows 7, 8/8.1, and 10 Technical Preview and that this issue is not present in Windows 7, but has always been there in Windows 8/8.1 and now it is present in 10TP as well.
I've had this system for just over 6 years now and it is still going strong. It should be noted that I have both drives on the secondary SATA chip (as identified above), which is meant to be used with removable SATA devices.
Since the problem exhibits itself in both Windows 8/8.1 and 10TP, a reinstall of the O/S will have no affect on this problem and so this appears to be some other issue that is consistent between Windows 8/8.1 and 10TP.
I'd appreciate your support in looking at this issue - thanks!

P.S. I also submitted this feedback through the Insider Program.

    Hey Zagayer,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
As you now have two optical drives in your Mac Pro, you need to be able to choose which drive to eject.  That is built into the system.  You just hold the Option key while tapping eject for the 2nd drive.
OS X Mountain Lion: Eject a disk
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10613
If your computer has two optical drives, hold down Option-Media Eject or Option-F12 to eject a disc from the second drive.
    Have a nice day,

  • Looking for a good Blue Ray Burner for Imac

Hi. I wonder if this idea is possible. I'm working with my Canon XL1 in parties, Events, etc and editing in my Imac 24 inch with Final Cut Express Pro. I wonder if it's possible to finish projects in 100 minutes length from XL1 with 20 to 25 GB each clip, export in 1280x720 (or better) to get HD, and Burn in BLue RAY with very clear results to show in a 52 inch plasma T.V HD 1080. If this is possible (or look alike HD) I wonder which Blue Ray burner will you recommend me for the task.
    Thanks for your answers.
    Best Regards.

Hi Skalicki. The reason why i asked that, it's because I made some test and what I saw in a 50 HD TV was very confusing. I made a party, I used 7 cassettes and in the final file that was 24 GB I made quicktime Movie, and of course with such a huge file, I burned that in IDVD with a 4.2 GB dvd. In a little T.V is awesome, in a 52 inch HD is awful. Another test, with Xl1, a short 10 minutes clip, burned in IDVD in h264 with 1280x720 HD is very good in the same T.V. What I understand for the test is: If a big clip (90' or more) remains uncompressed and it's burned in HD (mean BLUE RAY for a 90 minutes file), the properties remains intact and the XL1 becomes a look alike HD. The truth is: I wonder if this reasoning is right or not, but until now it's all what I understand.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Want buy blu-ray burner for T410s

I would like to buy a blu-ray burner for my T410s.
Of course it has to have drive height of 9.5mm.
It should be able to burn double-layer DVDs DVD+R DL *.
It should be able to burn double-layer blu-rays BD-R DL with a speed of 2x or better.
If anyone has a definite information on the specs of such a drive, I would appreciate letting me know.
    Thanks
    Tom
*Note, there is a difference between DVD+R and DVD-R.

If I remember correctly, there was a T400 Blu-ray burner - quite expensive at the time - that should work.  The T61 version would not work, as it would have had a PATA not SATA.  I don't think it is made any longer, but there could still be some aorund.

  • How to burn full hd clips onto dvd-r with Blu-ray burner to playback on a set top Blu-ray player?

    hello,
Blu-ray media is still expensive for exporting of small HD projects.
    If i have a Blu-ray burner,
can i burn BD exports onto DVD-r's (4.7Gb)
and play them in a set top Blu-ray player?
aka:  Does a DVD-r accept a 'blue laser'?
(Menus at this point are not necessary)
Mostly i am wanting to burn 3-4 minute music videos onto DVD-r discs
in full HD Blu-ray without having to use an expensive Blu-ray disc each time.
    thanks
    j

    hello,
at this time the answer is yes
they are called BD5 and BD9 discs
the BD5 is a single layer DVD-r disc that holds BDMV
the BD9 is a dual layer DVD-r disc that holds BDMV
now i'm trying to see if Encore CS5 burns BD5/BD9 discs?
    thanks,

  • Blue Ray Burner for Early 2009 Mac Pro

Hello Folks I don't know if I am in the right area of the forum to ask this question. Here it is. Can any one tell me whats a good Blue Ray Burner for the Early 2009 8 Core Mac Tower. I do own Toast 10 with the Blue Ray Plug-in.
Whats the difference USB 3.0 to USB 2.0
    Thanks
    Steve

    videoguy4u,
I bought the LG/WH10LS30KMPT from OWC and installed it on my early 2008 Mac Pro.
Very tedious installation on the 2008 MP,but it works fine.
With Toast10 it works burning Blu ray and DVD,perhaps the original DvD drive can be removed.
Alt key needs to be pressed to open this second drive.
    Go for it.
If you are in the UK carriage and customs payment will double the cost.
But it arrived within seven days.
The shipping company in the UK will send you an email asking you to pay the duty by email.
It was delivered the next day after payment.
    Michael.

  • Premiere Elements 11 no longer recognizes my external blu-ray burner.

I have used my Samsung SE-506BB-TSBD external burner many times before today, but for some reason Premiere Elements 11 is not recognizing it. Windows 7 sees it just fine. Premiere Elements 8 (which is still loaded on the same computer) also does not recognize it.
What do I need to do? Samsung's website is no help, but I have a feeling it's an Adobe issue since Windows 7 still recognizes the drive.

    rbcourter
When is your Blu-ray burner not recognized
Premiere Elements 11: burn to DVD disc, burn to Blu-ray disc, burn to AVCHD on DVD disc, or all?
Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1: burn to DVD disc, burn to Blu-ray disc, or both?
    and when you wrote:
I have used my Samsung SE-506BB-TSBD external burner many times before today
Did "....many times before today" imply that you could use the burner for Premiere Elements 11 and 8.0/8.0.1 before. I am trying to get a whether this is a "it worked before but now" or a "it never worked before" type issue.
Do you have the USB 2.0 cable connected to a USB 2.0 computer port directly or via a USB multi port hub? I take it that this burner does not have AC support? If you are using only 1 USB 2.0 port, can you set up the burner for 2 USB 2.0 ports?
Does the computer involved have an internal burner? Or is this the only burner that you have available to you external or internal for the computer?
Let us start here and then decide what avenues of further troubleshooting are available to us.
    Thanks.

  • Final Cut Pro X witch Blu-ray Burner are you using ...

Using a Mac Pro Tower like the Mac Pro 2012 or similar what are the Blu-ray Internal Burners do you use ; LG or Pioneer , witch Model Number.
Creating Blu-ray on the Mac is fantastic but witch brand and model numbers for the Big Mac Pro Tower are you using with exellent results now.
On the Mac Apple Pro Apps or Roxio Toast Titanium are the only left options who are current and updated , but burners specified for Windows.
Frustration come when you talk to Apple they say not supported , Burners makers LG or Pioneer will say we dont offer support on the Mac.
Well if you can create Blu-ray on the Mac but cant get any help to burn it it is very frustrating and Not So Pro if Apple care for the Pro Users.

I use the new Mac Pro 2013. Final Cut Pro X version 10.1.4 and Maverick OS 10.9.5. An external Blu-ray burner LG BE14NU40. I've use single burn Blu-ray discs from brands like Maxell and Verbatim. That works fine. I have double layers Blu-ray discs not tried. I use it for home video’s.
DVD single works fine too. DVD double layers I have not tried but will also work i think. Reviews on LG USA stated that Roxio Titanium with corresponding plugin works.
I'm glad I found a blu-ray burner that works with FCPX.  Compressor 4.1.3 but I have not been working with the LG burner. Not yet!

  • Pavilllion HPE H8-1234 Blue-ray Burning?

Using a H8-1234 for import and DVD burning from a Sony Handycam that uses the HD AVCHD progressive format, I was able to burn a standard disc but not one in HD when trying to use the AVCHD format. Not much point in having a HD camera if you can't burn a HD DVD. Is the Supermulti burner in this PC not able to burn a disc in HD? If not can I just install another burner in place of the Supermulti? Also I would like to be able to burn Blue-ray disc's; is that possible and how?
BTW the Sony "Play Memories Home" software with the "Expanded Feature" works perfectly for importing and editing from the camera. They also offer a "BD Add on Software" to support the burning of the Blue-ray but I have not installed because I need to find out if the rest of my system is capable.
    Hope someone can help
    Randy

    RRRaider, welcome to the forum.
Here is a guide to help you determine if your drive will burn HD.  Personally, I couldn't find any data that states it is possible.
If the burner is will not burn in HD, you certainly can install a Blu-ray burner in its place.

  • Installed Blu-Ray burner in Mac Pro. Vista Bootcamp compatible?

I have a Mac compatible blu-ray burner in my Mac Pro. Will Bootcamp transfer the necessary driver for it to work in Windows Vista or Windows 7?
Anybody else have a Blu-ray burner in their Mac Pro's?

I'm waiting on delivery of my new OWC external and will strip the Pioneer out of it and jam it into the mac pro replacing the second windtubine upon receipt. I know I could have gotten the bare stand alone drive but with the case you also get the flexibilty of moving it around, cables and two 25 gig discs..all for about $100

I'm trying to burn a blu-ray disk from a 5 minute FCP X video.  Each time I try I get the following message:
The bit rate of the video file exceeded the maximum allowable.
How can I work around this?

What Blu-ray burner do you have? Is it recognized in the Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives? Driver and Firmware up to date?
What burn software came with the Blu-ray burner? If it is part of the CyberLink family, can you use the PowerProducer of the series to burn to Blu-ray disc format on a Blu-ray disc using these Blu-ray discs that Premiere Elements burn dialog is labelling "Media Not Present"? I would like to see the results of that test if possible.
Just to get it out of the way (maybe helpful), let us flush the preferences...
Assuming your Premiere Elements 11 is on Windows 7 or 8 64 bit....

If that does not work, a complete Deactivation from Help Menu/Deactivate followed by the usual Control Panel uninstalled followed by reinstall may be in order. I am hoping the results from a CyberLink PowerProducer burn to may give us some valuable information so that we do not have to resort to uninstall/reinstall.
Are you using BD-R 25 GB 2X? What is this BD-R DL? Is that the 50 GB for Blu-ray? Do you have any BD-RE 25 GB 6X? How much are you planning on putting on this Blu-ray disc in terms of Space Required and duration?
Let us start here and then we can decide what next.
