Blu-ray Encoding and Authoring Help!!!

I have been trying to burn Blu-ray discs for a couple weeks now but have no satisfactory results. I have been shooting in 1280x720p 29.97 in m2t format editing in premiere pro CS3 and exporting to mpeg 2 for Blu-Ray for authoring in Encore CS3. Im using a Matrox Axio LE with Windows XP
The problem is that all the mpeg 2, Blu-ray video and audio files, that I have encoded from premiere have been different lengths when I bring them into encore. This occurred even when I have tried encoding them separately. Now I have been able to burn a couple Blu-ray discs but the audio starts in sync and slowly drifts out getting worse and worse as the video progresses.
I was able to get one that looked good and seemed to be synced throughout the video. It was encoded at 23.94. But the audio was still many frames shorter than the audio
Since we are shooting in 29.976 we are thinking about starting to shoot in 59.94 because that frame rate is a native resolution for Blu-ray at 720P. But I shot some footage today in 59.94 and exported it to mpeg 2 for Blu-ray and got the same issue all over again and I have no idea why. (I tried using both the Matrox encoder and the adobe encoder as well)
I brought it into a 1280 by 720p 59.94 project and the video and audio were synced on the timeline
Exported it at 1280x720p at 59.94 quality 5, widescreen, progressive 25mbps
Exported the audio separately at 48kHz 16 bit stereo PCM
Imported it into Encore CS3 using Blu-ray setting, NTSC, 1280x720, mpeg 2, audio PCM. Nothing needed to be transcoded and all files were compliant. What am I doing wrong? I cant have video thats out of sync and whats worse is that I have a shoot this week and dont know what frame rate to shoot in. Can anyone help? Does anyone use Encore to burn Blu-rays?

There is a separate sub-forum for Bluray... you might read there to see if any of the other messages will help

  • Create Blu-Ray: Encodes and burns only small section of movie

I have a late 2013 Mac Pro and I am trying to use compressor 4 to burn a Blu-Ray disc. My source is an Apple ProRes422 encoded Quicktime file (about 1h of video). After about 1 h of submitting the job, compressor displays the status as successful. When I test the disc, the beginning of the movie has indeed burned successfully but the disc contains only a short stretch of the movie. I check the encoded files and they are small (ca 300-500MB) which is telling me that only the beginning of the movie was encoded. How can I burn the whole movie onto a Blu-Ray successfully? What I am doing wrong?
Furthermore, I have several movies that I would like to burn onto one Blu-Ray. How can I do that with compressor other than putting them all into one project in final cut pro and exporting the project to compressor?
By the way all 8 movies burned successfully onto one Blu-Ray with Toast 11 using the same hardware. However, I would like to be able to achieve the same or better result with compressor 4.
    Thank you for your suggestions

You are probably not doing anything wrong. The FCP X and Compressor discussion boards have multiple threads from users who are either getting no output from Blu Ray encoding projects - or they get strange results, like very low bit rates, regardless of the settings. Long projects seem more likely to be affected. If you haven't tried it already, see whether you can make a disk image, which Toast should handel without re-encoding.
Not everyone has experienced these difficulties, but AFAIK, no one – on either forum – has come up with an explanation of why.
One of the workarounds has been one that you're already using – Toast. Others have subscribed to Adobe CC Premiere to her the Encore download. One suggestion – apparently originating from an Apple support person – was to use a high bit rate MPEG2 setting.
There have been several posts (from users) that Apple engineers are aware of the issue. I can't confirm that one way or the other.
If you want to put multiple movies on a disk using Compressor or FCP X(assuming the larger issue is somehow overcome) you would need to bring the finished movies into an editing program (including quicktime Pro) as clips, assemble them on a timeline (or track), insert a gap clip and chapter markers and titles for navigation. That's because the process only allows for one track.
The only other suggestion I can make is that if you have a system back up, then you can probably restore the previous versions of FCP X and/or Compressor. and use them for Blu Ray.
    Good luck.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 H264 Blu-ray encoder does not do MBAFF interlace

I have been testing the Premiere Pro CS6 H264 Blu-ray encoder with some HDV video 1440x1080i25 top field first and I have found that it always encodes as PAFF even when the MBAFF box is ticked. I analysed the stream with h264_parse and found that the mb_adaptive_frame_field_flag is set to 0 and that the pic_struct flag alternates between 1 and 2. These indicate that the encoder is using PAFF when the MBAFF flag is ticked.
The CS5 encoder does work as it sets the mb_adaptive_frame_field to 1 and the pic_struct to 3 which is correct for top field first.
There is another problem in that Premier pro does not recognise field order of correctly encoded MBAFF video. It reports tff video as progresive and bff as top top field first.
MBAFF generaly gives higher quality pictures.
    Regards Trevor

For obvious reasons I do not like to be constanly connected to the internet with my Video Edting PC.
There are no 'obvious' reasons not to stay connected (if you know what you're doing), and in fact very good reasons to do so (more so if you're a Creative Cloud subscriber).
Having said that, there is a way to get the PDF to come up when you hit F1, instead of the online help.  I just don't recall where that setting is.

  • Blu Ray encoding using Compressor - successful replication

Now that Compressor offers Blu ray encoding that apparently pass verification for Blu ray authoring has anybody actually used it and successfully sent a disc to be replicated??? What kind of results are you getting out of Compressor?
Here's my thinking - as Apple seem to be absolutely NOT going to be offering a Blu ray authoring solution then (like many others) I am looking at Netblender's solution which has a proven track record. Now I can buy their authoring solution and also they now offer an encoding solution. Sweet...
But what I was thinking was it is always useful to have a second encoder to hand - as Netblender can take encodes from Compressor. So just wondered what the results were like.

There's apparently some question as to whether Compressor 3.5 encodes Blu-ray as well as Compressor 3.05. Sorry ;-(
My contributors have reported that a Share... export from FCP7 provides far better encoding quality than the current version of Compressor 3.5
However, in general, Compressor streams (AVC and Dolby Digital) have been verified as "stream compliant" using the standard BD pre-replication verifiers. HOWEVER - PLEASE NOTE THAT USING AC3 IN ADOBE ENCORE WILL RESULT IN A NON-VERIFIABLE PROJECT. Encore CS4 throws non-compliant ghost PGCs, which contain AC3 content that will NOT pass replication verification.
Yes, they know about this... No, I don't know when there will be a fix offered.

  • Encore insists on transcoding H.264 Blu-ray encoded file (Blu-ray legal)

I have a Blu-ray legal .m4v file encoded out of Adobe Media Encoder as H.264 Blu-ray VBR 2-Pass, maximum render, target 25Mbps, maximum 30Mbps.
My project is H.264, maximum 40Mbps.
Encore keeps listing the video file as untranscoded and wants to transcode it.
I've tried encoding just a portion of the video file instead of the whole thing using the same settings and when I bring this into Encore it recognizes it as Blu-ray legal and sets it to "Don't Transcode".
Can anyone think of a reason as to why this is happening?  I really don't want to sit through another eight hour encode that could degregade pq further.
    Thanks!

A .264 file from x264Pro or MeGUI that is BD-legal will import into En and be automatically set to Do Not Transcode.  So the file extension isn't the problem.  There are some esoteric H.264 parameters in x264 that must be set precisely in order to have En set the .264 file to DNT.  I suspect those same parameters will have to be set in MainConcept's encoder.
If you want to jump in the deep end, here are the x264 parameters that produce BD-legal output that also make En happy:
    program --pass 2 --bitrate 16000 --stats ".stats" --open-gop bluray --interlaced --pic-struct --level 4.1 --bframes 3 --ref 4 --slices 4 --aud --nal-hrd vbr --b-pyramid strict --keyint 30 --min-keyint 3 --vbv-bufsize 30000 --vbv-maxrate 40000 --weightp 0 --colorprim "bt709" --transfer "bt709" --colormatrix "bt709" --output "output" "input"
Obviously interlacing, bitrate, vbv-maxrate and such can be set as desired based on the source footage and delivery requirements.

  • MacPro blue ray internal  and external burner

I have Prostudio 2 and the latest updates on my quad core 3.0.
I want to be able to burn blue ray DVDs and was wondering what is the best buy for a internal blue ray drive?
Can I burn a Blue Ray DVD using Toast 8 or is it not required?

    You're very welcome.
I have never burned a movie with mine but I have burned large 3+ GB ISO images using CD Burner XP, and it takes just a few minutes.
Now, if you mean can you insert a disk in one drive, and copy that disk via the other drive using the same program set to copy or grab disk, that should be possible.
It should show one drive as the one to copy from and one to copy to, just like if you had two DVD drives in a desktop PC.
If you are asking can you simultaneously burn two different files on two different burners using the same program at the same time, that I have no clue. I guess you would have to try it and find out.  You would open the program and burn one file to a disk and open the program again and burn another file to the other DVD burner. If the program won't let you open two instances of it at the same time, then you probably could open a different DVD burning program such as the one I posted above and use that to burn the other files with.

  • Does Yosemite support Blu-Ray disc and 4K playback on the iMac with a 4K player?

If I plug a Blu-Ray or 4K player into an iMac, will Yosemite support playback?  What additional software is needed and available?

It's hard to say considering Apple hasn't supported Blu-ray yet and the downloaded Blu-ray resources are really not what we exactly want. The most directly way is to install Mac Blu-ray player and Blu-ray drive. Macgo is the best now to support 4K Blu-ray and Yosemite.

  • HD DVD/Blu-Ray encoding

    Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me as I'm not too tech savvy but I'm willing to learn. I purchased Final Cut Express recently so that I could capture HD video from a Canon HV30 (AVCHD). Now, what I need to know as well as how to do it is this - when I'm done editing my project (which was captured at full res) is it possible to end up with a project in HD DVD and/or Blu-Ray format, if so, how?
I have a MacBook Pro (standard/superdrive dvd burner)
    Final Cut Pro 5
    Final Cut Express 4
DVD SP 4 (have barely used it)
Compressor 2 (I've never used it)
Currently downloading a trial version of Adobe Encore
    I have a standard Sony dvd player/recorder
as well as a Sony Blu-Ray player (so ideally if I can end up with an encoded blu-ray dvd that would be great)
i also need an encoded hd dvd dvd because the person i'm having to hand to project to has a toshiba hd dvd player
If anyone can help you'd be much appreciated!!!

    >Currently downloading a trial version of Adobe Encore
Older versions of Encore do NOT work with HiDef, and there is no such thing as a trial version of Encore CS3, which DOES work with HiDef files and BluRay authoring
You need to go out of the Lounge, to the regular forum, and read about BluRay authoring

  • New Blu-ray player and DVD-R media... strange problem?

    Hello,
So, I have a sample disc that we made last year with various clips on it. To the best of my knowledge, everything has worked just fine. Now, I have a new Sony Blu-ray player. I put our sampler in, and one of the tracks does NOT play the audio. Plays the video, no audio. Inserting the same disc into our other players and the audio plays with the video just fine. Grab another sampler from a different build/burn. Same EXACT issue, on the same exact video track there is no audio but the disc works in all other players. Now here is the real kicker- take either sampler disc and play it in the Blu-ray player, go to the track that plays the video but no audio, play it for a few seconds, then rewind and play from the beginning, and you get sound. Jump back to the chapter index and choose the clip, no sound. Rewind & play you get sound.
Anyone want to give my any ideas as to what is going on?
    Mike
For what it's worth, the project was edited in FCP, Compressed using Compressor. I don't specifically know the exact settings, but I typically use VBR with an average of 6 or a CBR of 5. I always use AC3 audio. DVDSP authored the disc. I usually keep my systems up to date, but the disc was authored last January so I would have been using whatever the latest system updated in January were. And finally there are two builds of the disc. The 2nd build has DVD Rom content added to it. But either build has the same exact issue with the same exact tack.

Not Really. Try using another batch of discs. Author the project over again..maybe it will help.

  • Is it possible to burn a SD DVD correctly from an Encore CS6 Blu-ray project and content?

    Hi all,
I shot and edited AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) square pixel video from a Sony NXCAM HXR-NX5U camcorder in Premiere CS6.  I then exported the 1920x1080 edited mpeg2 blu-ray m2v file for import into Encore Cs6.  Burning a blu-ray disc in Encore CS6 from this mpeg2 bluray m2v file is no problem and look great even with the default settings.
However, I also want to burn a standard DVD using the same HD Encore CS6 project without having to go back to Premiere CS6 and output a 710x480 mpeg-dvd file.  I thought i could simply select the dvd format under the build tab in Encore thinking Encore would handle all the necessary conversions to burn a 720x480 DVD but the menus look jaggy and the video does not play smoothly.
Is it possible to burn a standard DVD correctly from an Encore CS6 HD project and content, or is it better to have Premiere CS6 output a 720x480 mpeg-dvd file and create a new standard 720x480 dvd Encore project instead?
Acording to Encore Help, it says "You can build the same project to DVD and Blu‑ray formats no matter which format you select in the New Project or Project Settings dialog box. Encore makes the appropriate adjustments to transcode the elements to the correct format.", but i'm not convinced Encore is doing things correctly.
    Thanks.

    Jim,
I tried a variation on your suggestion.
I exported a new m2v file using the mpeg-dvd from Premiere CS6 as you suggested with "Use Maximum Render Quality" checked to get better scaling from HD to SD. I imported it into my Blu-ray EncoreCS6 project by using the "Replace Asset" option and changed the "Project Settings" authoring Mode to "DVD" leaving the HD menu's "Aspect Ratio" at 16:9.  I then built the disc using the "Build" tab DVD format and output settings.
    It worked!
The jaggies are gone (except for some motion jaggies) and the DVD plays well.
I suppose I could have done something similar within Encore but I'll test that some other time.

  • H.264 for Blu-Ray Encoding Time

    Hi All,
I have exported a Pro-Res 1080p 2 hour film from FCPX and just dropped it into compressor. I have then dragged the default H.264 for Blu-Ray settings on my video and it looks like it will take way over three hours. I have a friend running Media Encoder and with the same file on his laptop it does it in 40min and it's a slower spec . I am running Compressor  4.1.3 and the latest MAC OS operating system. I have enabled additional instanced checked and the number 1 in the drop down (there are no other numbers)
Is there anything I am doing wrong, surely it can't be this slow, it's not even set to multipass.
    Thanks

Sounds about right to me for a rMBP.

  • Blu-ray discs and a HD dvd build

I have read in other posts that it does not appear that a HD DVD(as opposed to SD DVD in the DVD studio pro settings) program can be burned onto a Blu-ray for TV viewing. First of all if anyone knows that this has changed please speak up. Otherwise my question is is the HVDVD_TS folder that DVDSP creates for a HD program a compatible folder with Blu-ray players(or HDDVD players for that matter). Assuming one can eventually burn a video program onto a Blu-ray can the Blu-ray players read the HVDVD_TS the same way that the Apple DVDPlayer does or set top DVD players read the VIDEO_TS folder.
Also does anyone know if the Blu-ray players can read a BD-R at all.

There are other Win options too but as Adobe are adding Blu-ray support I'm pretty sure at NAB next month Apple will add support too... Plus if you look here:
    http://www.nab.org/nabshow/Conferences/sessiondetail.asp?id=1205649
It says tools for Next Gen authoring on Mac & Win... so lets hope dvdsp has a nice update and a solid SD Update. I'd like separate tools as always but we'll see what NAB brings.
Remember Premiere & Co. are Mac again so I'm sure Apple has some FCS sh*t for their a$$ to launch in April we may even get new macs with internal blu-ray burners if we are good boys and girls...

  • Repeated Failed or Media Not Found in Blu Ray Encode in Compressor 3.5

I tried six burns using both Share and in Compressor.
On five occasions, Create Disc launched before Compressor had completed the encode, and reported a "file not found" error message.
This is on clean install of 10.5.8 to a fresh volume.
I also disabled the quick cluster and received a failed burn as well.
Brand new 8 core Mac with 12 GB/s of RAM.
You can't get a cleaner system than this.
Using a quad interface OWC blu ray burner with FW800 connection, and pro res 1080/24p footage. Except for the one try with Share, everything was export self contained.

    David,
You might even want to reduce your instances to 4. The reason being is that often the intra-processor traffic can get congested when treating the cores as nodes (or even the virtuals) versus treating the processor itself as the node. I found that with the 8 core machines, the sweet spot for virtual clusters was 4 instances.
Also, just did s set of BD and AVCHD burns from both FCP and Compressor with no issue.
Lastly, in terms of visual feedback, the Create Disc icon in the dock provides a Toast-like progress display with the disc filling up from the center out.

  • Blu Ray export is corrupted, help!

When exporting as Blu ray, FCP burns the disc allright, but when I view it with my blu ray player, all the video clip parts of thw movie are replaced with one 2second loop from the beginning of the movie. All photos show correctly though, and the sound plays properly in the background. In the timeline the movie plays correctly. FCP has rendered it 100%.
