Blu-Ray Fit Contents to available space

I made my first blu-ray disc in PreEl, and I tried to add as many raw video clips exported from my Canon Vixia HF200 as would fit on the disc.  On the Share->Blu-Ray settings, it said the space required was 22.89 GB, and I then checked the "Fit Contents to available space" box, which changed the Space Required to 23.30 GB.  The disc came out ok, but I discovered there was about 7GB left unused, and it is visually obvious the burner didn't use the last 1/2 inch or so of space on the bottom of the disc.
Is there a better way to try to utilize all the available disc space?  In this case, my goal is to archive as many original video files as possible onto a disc.  However, I have tried to group them together and add menu markers to them, so I don't end up with 200+ chapters on the disc.
I plan to actually edit and create videos more in the future, but for now I'm thinking in terms of getting many hours ofHD video off my hard drive and making multiple backup copies to blu-ray discs.

Neale,
Unless things have changed, and this could be by version, or a difference between BD and DVD-Video, PrE uses a 2-Pass VBR Transcoding scheme. What this means is that PrE measures what it thinks the size will be, then runs the first pass. This pass basically samples the motion in the Timeline, and stores data to be used in the next pass. Then, on the second pass, that info is used to assign a higher Bit-Rate to areas of high motion, and lower Bit-Rate to areas of less motion. It is not until PrE is completely done with the second pass, that it knows for sure, how large the file will be, as the Bit-Rates will be altered, as needed throughout the process.
The multi-pass Transcoding is how Hollywood crams so much high-quality material onto a DVD, or BD. There Transcoding software will do maybe 9-Passes, or even more, and then the operator can tweak things as required. This results in a variable Bit-Rate that is the ultimate for every segment of the Timeline - not 1 MB/s more than is needed, and very high motion at the best possible Bit-Rate to keep that smooth. Never too much, and never too little. Sort of a Goldie Locks situation, and run by highly-trained professionals, who do nothing else all day long, using software that costs more than a Mercedes E-Class.
As for the BD-Data, one is not Transcoding to produce that. If there is any Transcoding, it would first be done by the user, and then the resultant files would just be Copied over to the BD-Data disc. As you say, one would calculate the number of files, times their size, and subtract that from the capacity, adding more, or subtracting some, to fill the BD-Data.

  • Blu ray,Fit contents to disc?

    I created a blu ray burn.Project was settings were h264 1920*1080i.Project length was 00;40;45;13.
Everything went great and the disc looks like the original off of my Pany tm700 which I recorded at 1080/60p My question is when I check the "fit contents to available space",It shows "space required : 7.23gb(bitrate 24.00Mbps).When unchecked it shows 6.09gb(bitrate20.19Mbps) I know my project was short enough but why does it show more space required when checked than unchecked?

Default bitrate is 20.19Mbps for 1920x1080 settings in this preset. It calculate the size based on 20.19 bitrate and the maximum bit rate setting is 24mbps bitrate for this preset. If we check the "Fit content" option then PRE sets the bitrate to maximum(24mbps). if we add the contents(more than 25 GB) in timeline and check the "Fit content" option then it will reduce the bit rate to fit the content in 25 GB Disc.

  • Once and for all: Can DVD SP build Blu-Ray disc content or not?

    Maybe I’m crazy, but…
Everything I’ve heard to date has Apple backing the Blu-Ray format. Believing this, I just spent $900 on a new Lacie D2 external Blu-Ray burner (which IS Mac compatible). I also purchased Toast 8 (which IS Blu-Ray compatible).
All I need to do now is build my disc content (assign H.264 1920x1080 content, build menus, etc.) then drop it all into Toast and burn Blu-Ray video discs… right?
So what is all this I’m reading here about DVD Studio Pro supporting the HD DVD format and not Blu-Ray???!!!!!!
Am I going to be able to do this using DVD SP or not, and if not, can anybody tell me a program I can use to build my Blue-Ray disc content? (All of my HD content is H.264 (1920x1080) rendered directly from Adobe After Effects).
My deadline for this project is fast approaching and I’m hoping somebody can shed some light on this. If I can build Blu-Ray discs and burn them on my Mac using Toast 8 and the Lacie D2, I’ll make my deadline and justify the $900 spent thus far.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks, SM

    Wait a minute,
Maybe I don’t need to buy PC to run DVDit Pro HD. I have a Mac Pro! With Boot camp I have a PC! Any reason I shouldn’t try running DVDit on my Mac via the Boot Camp beta? That way I'd also be using my Lacie D2 Bu-Ray drive. And with Roxio's 30 day return policy I haven’t much to loose...
I'm calling Roxio tech support. Let you know how it goes

Just got back from digging into Roxio's discussion forum and here's what I found:
I have travelled down the same frustrating path my friend!
But I did succeed doing it all on my new mac Pro, finally...
Install BOOTCAMP (free beta). Install WINDOWS XP ($269 from AMAZON). Install ULEAD BD RECORDER, which comes with DVD MOVIEFACTORY 6 (free trial, $80 to buy).
BDAV worked well from SONY V1-U burning to MATSHITA BD-MLT SW-5582 and played perfectly in new SAMSUNG 1200 palyer on my 57" DLP.
TIP - install BOOTCAMP et al on its own HD, and use NTFS... This will come in handy when doing a BDAV from a file such as HDV1080 that is larger than 4GB.
To do BDMV, you'll need SONIC DVD-IT PRO HD ($499) which I have yet to try...
Frustrating process, but kinda cool to figure it all out, especially when NOBODY in sales at any of these places seems to have a clue.
So there you go - must be possible

  • Premiere Elements 9 - blu-ray insufficient disc space for burning

    Hi
I have just upgraded to PE 9 with the hope that it would have less problems than 7 - it appears I am wrong
Having got over the "chapter overflow" problem I am now faced with a new one that i cannot find a thread for.
I have a video that is 2 hours 45 min long.
I want to burn it to blu-ray.
I select "fit contents to available space" the program reduces the size to 23.3Gb BUT does not remove the warning so i cannot do the burn.
I have successfully burnt 2 Blu-ray discs where the content did not need to be made smaller.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Michael

The file is to big for the disc, but that is why the fit content to available space tick box is there.
It does show that the size will be reduced and what the new reduced bit rate will be.
The problem is that the error message does not remove it's self so the burn button does not activate.

  • Error burning blu-ray

In Compressor 3.5.3 when I go to burn a blu-ray it ends up saying 'The operation couldn't be completed. (DSPPublishing error - 1006.)'.
Any clues on what is happening, or how to fix?

    Thanks for the reply.
Please confirm - does the burn to Blu-ray disc fail if you have less than 23 GB Space Required and no check mark next to "Fit Content
to Available Space". I ran into the following when less than 23 GB Space Required and check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space".

    Also...
    a. Look at the burn to with and without a check mark next to the Intel HD Graphics 2000 and Higher preference in Expert workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/General.
    Also...
    a. When you obtained the Blu-ray iso file instead of the disc product, what was the file size of the Blu-ray .iso file that you took to Blu-ray disc with a 3rd party software? And what was that 3rd party software?
    Thanks.

  • Blue Ray disk created using premiere 10 does not show menus

I have a video project with a main menu and  5 scene menus. I burn the project (using premiere Elements 10) to a Blue-ray disc using preset H.264 1920x1080i PAL Dolby  with quality option set to "Fit Contents to available space" . The software happily creates the disc with 17.6GB of data (main stream, 00000.m2ts is 18,413,568 KB (17.5GB) and 6 small streams for main & scene menus.
However, when this disc is reinserted into the drive, it does not automatically start with the main menu.
If I burn the same project to a DVD with PAL_Widescreen_DolbyDVD preset with quality option set to "Fit Contents to available space", it creates the DVD which, when reinserted into the drive, starts automatically with the main menu.
The environment is Wndows 7  64bit with SONY BD RW BWU-500S ATA Device .
What do I need to do to get the Blue Ray disc to start with the main menu?

  • The blue ray menu not working for Adobe Premiere Eelemnts 13

Hi , I bought Adobe Premiere Elements 13 while and when I using the software to create a Blue Ray disc, the final disc is not function at all after write. I have the same problem in Adobe Premiere Elements avuto 12. I try to use the software on the another computer and I have the same problem. Another problem is that the software writes up to 70% not 100% of the disk to create a Blue Ray Disc. Does anyone have any idea how I can solve these problems? How can notify the Adobe software on these issues? Thank you.

    Thanks for the reply.
    1. You say that you are using the Quality area with check mark next to "Fit contents to Available Space", but what are the readings there
for Space Required and Bitrate when you have your Blu-ray disc in the burner tray and you have Status = Ready in the burn dialog?
What capacity disc are you using - BD-R 25 GB or BD-RE DL 50 GB?
    2. I understand that you have Premiere Elements 7 and can create a Blu-ray disc format with disc menus on Blu-ray disc with it. Is 7 on the same computer as 13 and using the same burner and disc?
    Did I understand correctly
    a. You can create the Premiere Elements Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc WITHOUT menus and you have no problems with playback on your player, but you cannot do that if you include the disc menus?
If that is the case, what specific disc menu are you using? And, how many Timeline menu markers have you placed on the Timeline beforehand?
How many main menu pages and how many scene selection pages results as a result?
On the Blu-ray format on Blu-ray disc with disc menus that are failing, is the preference for Intel HD Graphics 2000 and Higher enabled or disabled?
If your Timeline content will be generating a Blu-ray ISO Image greater than 1 GB, there can be more problems. Please see

  • Availability of Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-Ray Player

Does anyone know when the Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-Ray Player will be available? The last I heard was Nov. 13th. but I don't see any in stock.

That's the first thing I'd try. If that doesn't work, in AirPort Utility put the Time Capsule into "manual setup" mode, then pull down the menu option Base Station -> Equivalent Network Password.

  • APE11 will not recognize any blu-ray media

I have APE11 and attempting to burn a project to blu-ray. My problem is that APE11 recognizes the blu-ray burner but will not recognize any blu-ray discs. I have tried various BD-R and BD-R DL discs to no avail. I receive a "Media not present" message. If I select the same burner but choose to create a DVD, I receive a "Incompatible disc" message. This leads me that it sees the discs but I'm not sure what's up with the blu-ray option. The blu-ray discs are Verbatim and Windows recognizes the discs as well. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

What Blu-ray burner do you have? Is it recognized in the Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives? Driver and Firmware up to date?
What burn software came with the Blu-ray burner? If it is part of the CyberLink family, can you use the PowerProducer of the series to burn to Blu-ray disc format on a Blu-ray disc using these Blu-ray discs that Premiere Elements burn dialog is labelling "Media Not Present"? I would like to see the results of that test if possible.

  • Recently bought an LG 3D tv and an LG 3d Blue Ray player but am having problems with my setup

I bought a 47LA6200 TV and a BP530 blue ray player. I have my cable box hooked up to HDMI 1, I have my blue ray hooked up to HDMI 2, and my XBox 360 to HDMI 3. I have my cable box hooked up to my older JVC RX880V stereo digital optical to digital optical without any 5.1 problems at all. My TV digital optical out is hooked up to my stereo digital optical port 2 without any 5.1 problems either, sort of. My BP530 is hooked up to my stereo digital coax to digital coax but I cannot get any 5.1 sound at all. Not through any of the digital channels on the stereo at all. The player only comes through as standard stereo through all 4 speakers and I am not sure if it is coming through the base speaker at all. I have tried every setting on both the TV and the blue ray player to no avail. I have even tried to not use the digital on my blue ray but when the stereo is set to play from my tv optical I still don't get 5.1 sound. When I do not use the TV optical out but I do use the digital coax out from the DVD player I still cannot play my DVDs in 5.1. I have new HDMI 15gbps HDMI cables and a new digital coaxial cable so I don't think it is a cable thing.
The real question is how do I get to hear my blue ray and DVD discs in 5.1 sound? Will this work if I exchange my blue ray player for a Denon 3D blue ray or other player?

  • Qosmio F60, PQF65A - How to play blu rays?

Hey people, I have been having immense trouble getting the blu ray player to play the blu ray disc's. I got this laptop second hand and all the manufacturer software was uninstalled so I had to start afresh.
Currently I have Toshiba DVD player V3.01.1.07-A. I have been trying very hard to find a patch or a player that will allow me to play blu rays. Even VLC media player won't do it. Its frustrating the living out of me.
I have d/l so many versions of WinDVD but to no avail. I keep getting a message saying that its not compatible with my current version.
    Please help.

    Hi
The WinDVD BD was preinstalled on notebooks which are equipped with an BD drive.
The notebook seems to be an Toshiba Australian series and I found all the drivers and tools here:
    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/qosmio/f60/pqf65a-00y002/download
There you can see that an WinDVD 8 Blu-ray Player Update is available for download but for models with Blu-ray.
If you are still using the original Toshiba Windows system, then you could try to set the notebook back to factory settings using the HDD recovery option or Recovery disk (you have to create such disk) and then can check if WinDVD BD would appear as preinstalled software.

  • PE11 Blu-ray play problem, etc.

I just created my first video in PE11 and burned a Blu-ray disc. I made it as an auto play instead of with menus.
When I played it in my Blu-ray player, it would play but functions such as fast forward and rewind were not available.
Any ideas about what would cause this?
Also, I'm somewhat confused about the best method of creating a Blu-ray disc image to burn multiple discs rather than
waiting for each burn to render. It doesn't seem to have this function in PE for Blu-ray although it is available for DVD.
However, I noticed that there are multiple choices for saving as an HD file. Would any of these work?
Also, I have Roxio Toast 11. Would it be better to burn the first disc in PE and then copy the disc in Toast as a disc image?
This would seem to make sense, but I'm wondering if it is the best way.
I'm using a recent model Macbook Pro.
    Thanks for any help offered.

Unlike the Publish+Share/Disc DVD and AVCHD, Blu-ray has never had a burn to folder option, just burn to Blu-ray disc.
Many have used the Phantom Burner in conjunction with Premiere Elements to create a disc image for the Blu-ray. I have written about it in several places. Here is the latest.

This would seem to me to be a function of your player and its remote, not Premiere Elements. For comparative purposes, have you looked at "fast forward" and your player with an autoplay disc as well as a disc with menus in this instance? Are you using a BD-R or BD-RE Blu-ray disc? What do the instructions for your player say about it fast forward function and Blu-ray discs?
    You may not be alone.

  • Toshiba F755-S5219 wont play blu rays

    Hi,
I have a Qosmio F755-S5219 with a built in Blu Ray player. I had been able to play blu rays including 3D blu rays.
I recently updated to the newest Nvidia driver and Toshiba Blu Ray player (1.05.130) and have been unable to play blu rays ever since.
    DVDs play fine.
I tried reinstalling blu ray player and super ic software.
I tried reinstalling original display driver, blu ray player software and Super IC
I reinstalled current version of BIOS
I tried reupdating to Ver 1.05.130 and current nVidia Display driver.
I just tried updating to 1.05.207
DVDs always work, but blu rays auto open the toshiba player then go to a blank screen with 00:00:00 and stop
Blu Rays play fine in ArcSoft total Theater 6. So it is clearly and issue with The Toshiba software.
I contacted toshiba tech support, and the first level told me to do the same things I've done and Level 3 said they would charge me for any more help.
    Any Ideas would be appriciated.

  • How do I fit a season of basketball games on a single blu-ray?

I am not that concerned with quality.  I have roughly 15 game videos that are about 1GB each in MP4 container (H264+AAC) 1280x720p30.  I had hoped to create a single disc that could be watched on a blu-ray player.
I don't see ability to modify video settings, bit-rate, etc in Premiere Elements 13.  Can this be done?  How about in Premiere Pro or other software?
    Thanks!

    Hi ATR,
So I am frustrated, but I want to see this through.
The resources comment made me think, so I have now doubled my RAM to 16GB and have seen where my system has briefly used as much as 12GB when opening my project.
I also uninstalled the software from my 256GB SSD, that had about 100GB free on it and reinstalled on a 1.5TB Hard Disk, just in case 100GB free wasn't enough or in case something was corrupted.  My project and all my files are on another 1.5TB Hard Disk in which there are over 350GB free.  I also created a new project and replaced all of my lower quality game videos with the original game video in case there was some kind of issue with the project or the source videos.
I reattempted to burn to 25GB BD-R and failed again at 98%, with same warning of not enough free space on disc.  I can see and play all of the video files that Elements just created from the hard drive and they work fine, and look very good, so I know the rendering completed.  They are just too large collectively to fit on the Blu-ray disc, in spite of using the Fit checkbox (see example in post 6 above).  I am convinced that Adobe Premiere Elements has a flawed estimation of free space on the BD-R and once the rendering is complete, that it will not fit on the disc.
I placed an order for 50GB BD-R DL discs today and will try again when they arrive.
This is a rather painful process as it takes ~8 hours to render the 12 hours of video each time I try something different.
    My System:
    Intel Core I7-2600K (8Core) 3.7GHz
    Gigabyte Motherboard
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX970 Windforce Graphics Card
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3 (4x4GB) Corsair Vengeance CAS9
Samsung 256GB 850PRO SSD with Windows 8.1 PRO
2x3TB Toshiba 7200RPM SATA Hard Drives, Each divided into two partitions.
LG 46" UHD 3840x2160x60 4:4:4 Display via HDMI 2.0 (Note that Adobe Premiere Elements handles scaling the interface to this resolution better than competitors)
I also have a MacBook Pro with a Core 2 Duo, that would take a lot longer, but I am tempted to install on that machine and give it a try to see if the MAC version works.  Note that I have my LG Blu-Ray burner in an external enclosure so I could attempt this.
    Thanks!
