Blu-Ray Jerking - Encore Help Needed!
Hi all,
I'm new to Encore and i'm just about to complete a project which involves burning some videos to DVD & Blu-Ray. I have burnt 5 DVD's and everything works perfect, but unfortunately now I am trying to burn the Blu-Rays and they have major issues. When I come to play the Blu-Ray on my computer, first of all they won't work with VLC (newest version) and the video seems to be jerking slightly. I have also noticed when the video thumbnails appear, the video and audio freezes (only time the audio is effected.) Oh and i'm not sure if this is relevant but the first two discs I burnt the video started playing in my PC about 30 seconds into one of the videos, completely skipping out the intro video, menu and part of said video.
My project consists of:
Intro animation/motion menu exported from AE
Menu file exported from PS
Audio track
Four videos from FCP, all 1920x1080. One is a "Current Settings" .mov export from a ProRes 422 HQ timeline and the others were this but have been compressed to an MP4 in Handbrake.
The menu system has video thumbnails and all of the above videos are linked well.
The loop point has been set at 18 seconds which is when the intro animation finishes and the video menu has fully faded in.
Each video has an end point which brings them back to this loop point.
As mentioned, this worked absolutely perfect with my DVD's but with the Blu-Rays it's completely messed up. The only difference between the two are the Blu-Ray project settings, the video transcode settings set by Encore and I have imported the "Current Settings" .mov from FCP for one video and not the compressed Handbrake file. I have done the "Check Project" and nothing comes back.
I am using the following equipment:
"LG Super Multi Blue" Blu-Ray burner.
TDK BD-R 25GB 1-4x Write Speed discs
Dell XPS 8700s Blu-Ray player for playback with VLC (won't open:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:\'. Check the log for details.
& CyberLink PowerDVD 12 which does work but the above issues are noticed.
Please if somebody could give me some suggestions to fix this it would be greatly appreciated. I am going away for a week on Monday and need to have these burnt and sent out to the clients before I do.
While playback with computer emulators is helpful, you ultimately need a disk test. A BD+RE is very helpful.
What does Encore show as the Blu-ray transcode status (in that column over to the right in the Encore project panel): Do not transcode, Untranscoded?

Blu-ray H264 encoding help!
I've read around the forums, and made a few posts on other sites but can't seem to find a straight answer. I'm trying to author a blu-ray in encore with a 25min 1080i program and x2 5min 480i programs. I originally tried encoding to H264 from Sorenson Squeeze 7 using its blu-ray presets, since I didn't have AME installed, but no luck. However, its MPEG2 blu-ray presets do import into encore. On someone's advice I switched around my licenses and installed AME and Encore onto the PC running Media Composer. I imported the quicktimes into Encore (These are coming from Media Composer, output as same-as-source quicktimes because encore was having problems with quicktime reference files), tweaked the transcoding presets slightly, and haven't been able to get much to work since then. It seems that the SD videos are encoding fine. But the HD video is having problems. Either it transcodes but shows up as black when played back on a blu-ray player, or it gets an error while transcoding. However, I was able to get it to playback but only when I transcoded a quicktime of the first few minutes, rather than the entire 25 minute program. Other forum posting have talked about a 2-pass VBR error and some other things, but that doesn't seem to be the problem as I did a test using that same couple minute excerpt quicktime with different settings, and all played back (2-pass vbr 4.1 level, 2-pass vbr 4.0 level, 1-pass vbr 4.1 level, 1-pass vbr 4.0 level, etc). Encore also has trouble determining what needs transcoding and what doesn't. For instance, I transcoded the two SD videos by right clicking Transcode Now so that AME opens up, but after transcoding Encore still says they need transcoding. Cleaning Media Caches as suggested elsewhere doesn't seem to help.
I'm at a loss at what to do at this point. I bought the production suite recently so that I could have After Effects and Encore for blu-ray authoring. But so far Encore has been a huge disappointment and waste of time and money. It seems almost criminal that Encore and AME don't play nice together using their own presets. Does anyone know how to get AME to encode correctly, or if there are settings to tweak in Sorenson Squeeze to get it to work with Encore?
Any help is much appreciated!I am having trouble tracking your multiple workflows, in part since I don't know what program you are using to play files when you say they played back successfully (Encore preview; other program etc). Don't worry about explaining what you wrote above, just provide a bit more info when you report your next tests, starting with Jim's suggestion.
I think the 2 pass vbr bug is not always apparent when you transcode short clips. -
Jerky playback of Blu Ray with Encore CS4 and Mac
I was very pleased by the fact that I created a Blu Ray disk on my first try...however, the footage plays back very jerky...almost like the frame rate dropped by half...I am using DVCPro 720p footage and compressing in two ways...1st did it in Media Encoder using the both 264 and mpeg 2 for blu-ray, and chose the proper format for 720p. Then I let Encore compress it using the automatic option...on all tries the video is playing back extremely jerky. I am also burning to re-writeable Blu Ray disks and playing back on PS3...anyone know what might be the problem?
Thanks.
Chad CampbellI did the same thing 720p 60p shot on a panasonic p2. I used final cut studio to co press to a mpeg-2 blu-ray stream and then build the blu-ray in encore cs4, it played back smoothly no dropping of frames or any other issues. That might solve your problems.
I use a mac pro. -
Blue screen of death when building blu-ray in Encore CS6
I recently purchased a new laptop and installed Adobe Master Collection CS6. I purchased the laptop for video capture and editing, as well as for blu-ray authoring.
Unfortunately, although the computer and software works fine for video capture and editing, I am unable to author a blu-ray. For authoring, I am using Adobe’s Encore CS6. After checking and previewing my creation, I attempt to build to disc using Encore. About 2 seconds after clicking the build disc in Encore, I get the “blue screen of death” (BSOD). This happens every time I try to build to blu-ray (only blu-ray has this issue; I am able to build to a DVD). I am using an external blu-ray drive on USB 3.0.
I am using Encore version 6.0.0.492

Whay does button navigation change after I burn to Blu-ray using Encore CS6?
Very odd. I've set up my Blu-ray project - created and previewed all the buttons, menus and navigation. The main menu contains a "Play Video" button, which is supposed to trigger the entire video to play. The "Chapters" button takes the viewer to a chapters menu. Everything previews fine on my computer. After I burn the disc, however, the button functions on my main menu have flipped. The "Play Video" button now takes the user to the chapter menu page and the "Chapters" button now plays the video. Also, the "Play Video" button is programmed to be the default for this menu. Now the menu defaults to the "Chapters" button. By the way, I created the same project on a DVD which plays as programmed. Any idea why the Blu-ray is having these issues? I'm thinking I'll reload Encore CS5 and reconstruct the project there. Thanks.
Hi, Stan.
I realized the problem was that the colors for the selected buttons on the Blu-ray version display darker than they do on the DVD. So I was being fooled into thinking the selected buttons weren't selected. Anyway, this was pilot error on my part. I just need to monkey with the color menu until I get the BR to approximate the DVD. Thanks. Cheers, Steve -
Hey
Has anyone here burn a blu - ray dics in Encore CS4 ?
And have there been any problems about playing it on a blu -ray player ?
Regards
Mikael
you can contact me here :
[email protected]
I have burn a blu - ray , but have a problemIt is normal for a player to briefly pause as it seeks the disc for the menu, transition, or video you are having it load. This is a limitation of the format.
Normally, a player will freeze the last frame of the previous menu until it loads the next menu or video. This freeze usually lasts 0.5 seconds to 1 second. If your disc was burned too fast, uses too high of a bitrate, had dust or scratches on the surface while burning or playing, this amount of time to seek the disc will increase (and possibly go to a black screen if it can't load it within a second or two).
The black screen you are experiencing is a player issue, not a menu issue. You might be able to reduce the freeze if you correct any issues you might have had with your disc. If your disc is flawless, then there is nothing you can do. If you try it on a different player, you will likely see a different result.
Menu content is stored on the disc in a different physical location than timeline content, which will make it take slightly longer to go from a menu to a timeline or vise versa. -
Hi,
I am having problems exporting my Blu-ray - I used Media Encoder to export my sequence from Premiere Pro, using the H.264 Blu-ray codec.
This is the error message I recieve, which appears after it seems to have burnt the disc and is on 'building streams': Blu-ray Error: "device not read", code: "3", Note: "CreateStcSequence: Fail to write M2S file.
I have tried re-exporting my footage, and creating new Encore projects.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
ThanksYou have solved your problem by using Imgburn (which I use for ALL disc burning) but here is some general information... for anyone else who reads this and wants to know "why" there may be problems
As well as the below, right click the program icon and select Run as Administrator,
which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and
which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a two layer DVD or a BluRay, you must
have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option... and a Mac version

JimHello,
I suggest you try a program called Photo to Movie. See link below. I have used this
application for many years, and it will do all that you need. It takes about 15 minutes
to learn and can give very sophisticated results. You can export from program to final
delivery, or go onto FCP if needed.

Blu Ray via Encore: H.264 or MPEG?
Hi,
I want to create a Blu Ray via Encoe Export to be played on a Samsung 1400 Blu Ray Player. Which settings would you use? H.264 or MPEG? What is the best bit rate?
Regards, Saschah.264 will give you better quality at a given bit rate. If memory serves, something between 19 and 30 Mbps.

Authoring to Blu Ray from Encore
I created a wedding video that I wanted to burn to a Blu Ray disk. I first tried to burn directly to Blu Ray but the "Build" button is grayed out. Then I created an .iso image thinking that was the best solution, and linked to it, but the dang "Build" is still grayed out.
I can burn to DVD with no problems. I just can't figure out why I can't build a Blu Ray disk.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.
I'm using CS5 with Mavericks - is that the problem?Over on the Windows side, a requirement to author a BluRay is the RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR process (below) but I have NO idea about Mac permissions

Blue screen of death help needed for MSI PM8PM-V motherboard
I am having sudden pc hang up (BSOD) and have failed to troubleshoot by myself after searching through internet resources on this topic. Will greatly appreciate any help with this.
The recent changes to my PC are:
-changed the PSU
-flashed my BIOS
-updated my drivers.
That is when the BSOD problem started. I tried drivers from MSI and VIA but both gave BSOD problems.
My PC specs are:
-Windows XP Pro Ver 2002 (SP3)
-PM8PM-V motherboard
-Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz
-960 MB RAM
-CoolerMaster 460W PSU
-Pheonix AwardBIOS v6.00PG
-153.38 GB IDE HardDisk
-BenQ DVD-RW
-Buffalo wireless LAN
-Onboard graphics and sound
Drivers (in chronological order):
-Installed from MSI
--P4M800_V30003
--VIA4in1_MB
--Realtek_AC97_MB
--Realtek_Gigabit_LAN_MB
--VIA8237_LAN_Driver_MB
-Installed from VIA
--VIA_HyperionPro_V524A
--VIA_FalconIDE_V280C
--wIShld
--Vinyl_V700b
I removed unused drivers from my hardware profile after this.

Closing open log file c:\debuglog3.txtI've done the 20x Memtest. No errors...
Meanwhile, my pc gave the BSOD again when I pressed the shutdown button.
Btw, is the minidump text of any use? I read elsewhere that this can pinpoint to the problem, but I don't know how to read it.
Anyway, here's the latest minidump text, if this is of use.
Thanks!
* Bugcheck Analysis *
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: 000000b2, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000001c, IRQL
Arg3: 00000000, bitfield :
bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: 804fa276, address which referenced memory
Debugging Details:
ADDITIONAL_DEBUG_TEXT:
Use '!findthebuild' command to search for the target build information.
If the build information is available, run '!findthebuild -s ; .reload' to set symbol path and load symbols.

Still no fix for Chapter Markers exporting in H.264 Blu-ray for Encore import Error
Why didn't this fix take place in the recent PPRO 2014.2 update?
I still get the error in Encore that I can import the movie file due to chapter markers.
Does this mean we cant any more use Encore for authoring DVDs or Blurays?
Really don't like the Delete the chapter reference file to do this. The bug appears fixed to me.
First, I updated only AME to 2014.2. I exported directly from PR 2014.1, and, as expected, the xmpses file is malformed and import to Encore fails. Export using the queue (and therefore clearly AME), the export shows a corrected xmpses file, and import to Encore works.
Then I updated PR to 2014.2. Now, direct export from PR also works.
I did not test updating PR and not AME, and that might present a different result.
What are your versions of PR and AME?
Edit: couldn't resist. Rolled back AME to 2014.1 with PR still updated to 2014.2. Direct Export from PR works. -
Encore CS5 Blu-Ray Preview Playback Issues / Authoring Issues
Hello,
I'm using Adobe Encore CS5 on a Mac Pro (Nehalem) 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon w/ 8 GB Ram on Mac OS X 10.5.8.
I've recently upgraded to CS5 after having no luck using CS3 to make Blu-Ray discs. So far my experience has been a little disappointing -- it feels like they still haven't got it right. Below is a list of my issues thus far -- perhaps some of you have run into similar things:
- When importing MATROX encoded H.264 Blu-Ray files Encore CS5 hangs up. I tried this with a 54 minute encoded file. Instead I re-transcoded using the CS5 Media Encoder to the Main Concept H.264. This worked fine, although the import still hung up for several minutes before anything made it's way into the project.
- When I try opening my already existing project with a 54 minute video inside it hangs up and takes as long as 3-5 minutes to finally open successfully. This seems to happen consistently.
- After rendering motion menus and rendering them in the project the playback preview stutters. It's very steppy throughout as the video plays in the background. I even tried authoring a disc and playing it in a Blu-Ray player -- it did the same thing once authored. I've tried re-encoding the video in Media Encoder and have found the problem persists. Has anyone else experienced this with motion menus? By the way, I'm transcoding @ 25mbps (max 30mbps) in the Media Encoder.
- While trying to re-author my Blu-Ray the playback preview does not play audio on the main video when I click to play it. I've tried re-importing the asset and previewing but this does not work. I'm going to re-author the disc anyway to see if it plays right on the disc but can't understand why the preview doesn't work even if the Blu-Ray itself is fine (which it is). I should add that the first time I authored this disc the audio was fine on the main video. Preview was also fine. So I'm not sure what's happening now - I haven't changed anything in the project.
- Portions of my video on the authored video play back with slight stutter even though the source video (ProRes HQ QuickTime) does not. Is this a problem with the Main Concept H.264 encode? Should I try a 2-pass VBR transcode as another try (instead of 1-pass)? My target bit rate is 25 mbps (with a max of 30 mbps). That shouldn't be too high for a player to handle without stutter. The stutter also happens in the same place every time so it makes me think it's the encode of the file itself that's the problem.
All in all these are mainly quirks about Encore that have begun to add up and frustrate me as a user. It would be nice if these things just worked as they should. But if anyone has ideas or can think of something I might be missing in all of this that would be great to hear.
Thanks for reading.
All the best,
JDAs a follow up, I tried knocking down the number of chapters by 1/3 so there would be a total of 28 chapters instead of 41. As it turns out, the disc is still exiting the timeline and returning to the main menu at exactly the same point (which happens to be one second into a particular chapter of the timeline, just shy of 90 minutes into the timeline). It's as if Encore has split my single timeline into two timelines.
If it's of any help understanding what's happening, the entire timeline is 02;05;23;21 long. When Encore creates the Blu-ray disc, playback of the timeline ends at approximately 01;26;43;10. I then have to go to my Scenes menu and pick up where I left off as it's the only way to see the last ~39 minutes of the sequence.
As I mentioned, if I burn this as a standard definition (4.7GB) disc, it plays normally with no breaks. It's only if I burn it to a 25GB single-layer Blu-ray disc that I see the problem (using multiple Blu-ray players).
Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this problem. -

Stutter after burning blu ray and during viewing in encore
i changed one effect in the project in premiere and i noticed it stutters at that spot in encore as well as after i burn it on blu ray can anyone help ?
A Cross-Dissolve is actually a Transition, and not an Effect. If you get a "stutter" with a Transition, it is very likely because you did not have adequate Handles in you Clips. The Help files will offer more info, but these will get you started:
Hope that this helps, and good luck,
Hunt
