Blu-ray menu stutters

I'm working on this Blu-ray project that requires a 30 second looping menu with background video and four buttons on top. The background video is 1920 x 1080 @ 23.976 and the buttons have no motion; just a 30% transparent red box overlay when selected. It plays back fine when I preview inside of Encore CS5 and CS4 but when rendered out and burned to a blu-ray disc it stutters like it's playing back at 12fps or lower (tested on three different brands of players also).
I've tried multiple ways of encoding the background video (all at MPEG-2):
1. through Compressor (dpx sequence to image sequence import) at high (40 max) and low (20 max) mbps,
2. dpx sequence to ProRes 422HQ QT and then to MPEG-2 using Compressor at high and low mbps.,
3. ProRes 422HQ QT to Encore for transcoding at max and high default settings.
All of these options work for a video playing in a single track non-menu Blu-ray so I know it's not my encode settings. I've been using them for a while and I've never had a problem until I needed to author a menu controlled disc. All of these different encodes give me the same result which points to Encore and it's buggy ways. I've read that creating a disk image or video folder will help but I've tried both and have also tried both using different burning software (Toast 9 and Blustreak Burner and even Encore).
If anybody has any theories or methods that will help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Chris

Okay, here's what I've discovered...
Creating a Blu-ray folder or disc image out of CS4 allows the 1080p menu to playback correctly (smooth, correct frame rate).  Use the same project file in CS5 - the menu plays back at the wrong frame rate.  I've also re-created the project in CS5 (which fails) and then I built the image or folder using CS4 and everything worked fine.  Nothing was wrong with the video itself or any player I tested with.  Now I just have to figure out how to get the loop point to not lock up my background for 2 seconds while the buttons load.  With my luck, that is probably fixed in CS5 and then I'm back to square one.  This needs to be fixed now.

  • Blu-ray menu link not going to correct page

Here we go again. I try something new, and it doesn't work. Here is the situation:
I have a Blu-ray menu. The main page of the menu has three buttons: Play Movie, Scene Selection, and Bonus Features.
Play Movie starts playing the disc at chapter 1, which is what it's supposed to do.
Scene Selection takes the user to the "first" page of the menu, where each chapter is listed and the first one is highlighted. The chapters span two pages, with the second page accessible by using the "Next" link at the bottom of the page. From that second page, you can either choose a chapter listed or go back to the previous page.
Bonus Features is set to go to page three of the menu, where the user can select to watch extra content which are each in their own timeline. This page is only accessible from the Bonus Features button on the main menu page. However, when it is selected, it goes to page 1 of the Scene Selection menu instead. The link in the Properties is set to go to "Disc 2 Menu:Page 3: Instrumental", which is the name of the menu, the page I want it to go to, and the button I want highlighted. But when I test it in my Blu-ray player, it does not behave correctly. Is there something in Encore I am missing? The button type is set to Normal, like the rest of the buttons on the Default page.
I don't want to keep burning discs to test this out when there doesn't seem to be anything else I can do to fix the problem. Hopefully someone knows what is wrong.

I have music and a video playing in the background, so the multi page menu is great for going to new pages and having the video and music continue playing, instead of having the DVD style menu where everything stops and starts over when you change pages.
So here is the top of my flowchart showing the main page of the menu and where each button goes. Everything works except Bonus Features going to P3B2 (I am guessing B2 is Button 2, which is what I want).
And here is the bottom of my flow chart showing what each button on that menu does.
Hopefully you spot something that is off. I might try to wrangle a second blu-ray player and see if it does it in a different machine as well.

  • Blu-ray menu button made with dynamic link won't work on Blu-ray disc

    Windows 7
    CS6 cloud
Ok.  So I used dynmamic link to my encore project and I also imported an mpg.4 as an asset for a separate menu button.  I have two buttons on linked to the premire pro project and one linked to the mpg.4.  Everything works fine in preview and the flow chart is fine everything is going where its supposed to go.
When I play the blu-ray disc the menu shows, the video thumbnails show...but when I hit the menu button that is supposed to play the premier pro video it does not work.  But when I hit the menu button for the mpeg.4 video it does work.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Please post a screenshot of your flowchart.

  • Create blu-ray menu for concert from scratch

    Hi all,
I downloaded the Premiere Elements 11 trial yesterday and am evaluating it for purchase.
My first project is a blu-ray of a concert.  I am on Windows 7 64bit.
    Project settings are:
    AVCHD 720p square pixel
    1280x720
    29.97fps
    30fps drop-frame timecode
I want to create a simple menu for blu-ray (ie an HD menu) that has a still background and simple text buttons.  The top menu would just have "play concert" and "track selection" text only buttons.  The "track selection" button would lead to a page with all the track names as buttons that link to the scene markers for each track.  That's it.
I only see pre-installed templates and none of them have the "HD" designation in the top right hand corner.  How do I go about achieving the menu that I want?
    Thanks, Ben

Along with Steve's suggestions, one can customize the existing PrE Menu Sets, just relying on the "background" Menu Set structure, and adding Still Images, plus doing limited customization to the Text, etc.
To create PrE Menu Sets (like those on Muvipix), one needs two things:
Photoshop (Photoshop Elements has one limitation - it cannot create Layer Sets, unless that has been added to PSE, as of version 11), and then knowledge of what goes into a PrE Menu Set. Because much of the authoring functions in PrE are semi-automatic, the Menu Sets are very involved. Though I create Menus for Adobe Encore, from scratch in Photoshop, I still need one of the Library PrE Menu Sets handy, to get all of those semi-automatic conventions in front of me - lot of stuff required there.
If you cannot customize an existing PrE Menu Set, or find similar at Muvipix, then we can offer some links, that will be helpful, but I strongly recommend that one spend a day, doing a study of the Library Menu Sets, and still having one handy, for the specifics, required. It also helps, if one understands the naming and structural conventions of DVD Menus, and then especially PrE Menu Sets.
Good luck, and let us know if you can find what you need, or something close, that you can customize.

  • How to create 720p blu-ray menu

I figured something out and thought it would be worth sharing.
I'm using Encore CS5 to author a blu-ray but had trouble authoring a menu that wasn't 1080p.  The entire footage of my disc is 720p @ 60fps and so I'd like the main menu, which is supposed to be simply text/buttons over a looping video that is also 720p @ 60, to match the rest of the disc.  But everything I tried resulted in a 1080p menu.  Even if I started with a blank HD menu, the resulting menu size was 1920x1080.  This resulted in my main menu looping video getting stretched and re-encoded, and reduced to 30fps as well.
The solution was to create a 1280x720 blank photoshop file, then Import As -> Menu...in the Project panel.  That provided me with a 1280x720 blank menu that stayed that way when I was building it.

BR does not do 1080p only in 24p.

  • The blue ray menu not working for Adobe Premiere Eelemnts 13

Hi , I bought Adobe Premiere Elements 13 while and when I using the software to create a Blue Ray disc, the final disc is not function at all after write. I have the same problem in Adobe Premiere Elements avuto 12. I try to use the software on the another computer and I have the same problem. Another problem is that the software writes up to 70% not 100% of the disk to create a Blue Ray Disc. Does anyone have any idea how I can solve these problems? How can notify the Adobe software on these issues? Thank you.

    Thanks for the reply.
    1. You say that you are using the Quality area with check mark next to "Fit contents to Available Space", but what are the readings there
for Space Required and Bitrate when you have your Blu-ray disc in the burner tray and you have Status = Ready in the burn dialog?
What capacity disc are you using - BD-R 25 GB or BD-RE DL 50 GB?
    2. I understand that you have Premiere Elements 7 and can create a Blu-ray disc format with disc menus on Blu-ray disc with it. Is 7 on the same computer as 13 and using the same burner and disc?
    Did I understand correctly
    a. You can create the Premiere Elements Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc WITHOUT menus and you have no problems with playback on your player, but you cannot do that if you include the disc menus?
If that is the case, what specific disc menu are you using? And, how many Timeline menu markers have you placed on the Timeline beforehand?
How many main menu pages and how many scene selection pages results as a result?
On the Blu-ray format on Blu-ray disc with disc menus that are failing, is the preference for Intel HD Graphics 2000 and Higher enabled or disabled?
If your Timeline content will be generating a Blu-ray ISO Image greater than 1 GB, there can be more problems. Please see

Please review the above and supply the details mentioned, and then we can decide on a troubleshooting plan.

  • Help: Buggy (broken) Blu-ray menu navigation

This is really frustrating. I have an Encore 2.0 project, previously used to build an SD DVD, using AVI/AC3 output from Premiere (built from what had been HDV video). REALLY basic menu buttons (no animation, or anything like that). They simply have standard highlights (which show as an arrow next to the button). In fact, those buttons weren't anything fancy that I built, they were simply standard buttons supplied in a previous Encore package. They worked fine in Encore 2.0 when the project was used to burn an SD DVD.
I've been sitting on the Premiere and Encore projects for several years, waiting for the HD support, so when I upgraded to CS3, I transcoded some a set of MV4/AC3 files in Premiere, and re-opened my original Encore project with the CS3 version; and then simply replaced the original AVI/AC3 files with new MV4/AC3. I then flipped the Encore project settings to burn a BR disk. I had to re-point the menu links (to the chapters in the new video file), but made NO changes to the content of the menus (i.e. all of the menu components are exactly what they were before). Within Encore, I previewed the Menu functionality and they work perfectly (i.e. the pseudo-remote moves the arrow/highlight between the buttons, and I can jump between my two menu pages, as well as jumping into my chapters). Everything LOOKED great.
So then I burned a disk (first one, on my new BR burner!). It burned great. I popped it in my Panny, and when the first menu popped up, I immediately clicked Enter (as my default button was to "Play"). That worked fine (so the button is "functional"), and my movie played (it was great to finally see my HDV footage in its full resolution). But then I jumped back to the menu to test out the rest of the menu capability. That's when the disappointment set in. The problem is that the menu navigation is all non-functional. I am unable to move between the buttons on my opening menu (and hence, can't even get to my submenu). It's just like the remote isn't working. And it's not like the buttons are "really" moving, but just not being highlighted properly, as I've played with the remote to test that possibility (based upon having seen some posts along those lines). It's simply that the navigation is "dead". It's dead when the disk is first loaded, and dead if you jump back to the menu after playing the movie. Of course, all "other" DVD and (commercial) BR disks work just fine.
So... the obvious question that I have is whether anybody else has seen any such behavior, or whether I'm the only unlucky SOB to suffer this problem? This is the sort of "buggy crap" (in Encore and/or Premiere) that has driven me crazy over the years (thru numerous version). This is absolutely one of the simplest projects (all of "seven!" resources listed on the Resource tab). How in the world have they managed to muck up the navigation in the menus, on something this simple? I'm clueless as to what I can even try, that might resolve the problem (especially when the menus work perfectly while being previewed). It simply looks like Encore has some basic bug that results in it mangling the menus when it builds them before the burn process.
Any input/thoughts would obviously be appreciated.
    (BTW, everything is fully patched.)

Not yet. Don't really have another player at my disposal. I have a relative with PS3, and hope to test it on that at some point, but I live (and work) out in the boonies, so it'll be a bit before that happens.

  • Blu-Ray disc freezes for half a second between chapters

I'm brand new to using Adobe for video editing.  I just finished my first Encore CS6 project, it's been quite a learning experience.  I have a 40 minute video with 18 chapters that I edited in Premiere Pro and exported for Blu-Ray as a single sequence.  Encore still insisted on transcoding it, it was irritating to have to wait but it worked. I created a simple blu-ray menu with a chapter index with 10 items per page created from a chapter playlist.  The first play is the first page of the menu, and each chapter plays sequentially.  There are no end actions on any of the chapters, they are intended to play sequentially starting from any chapter selected in the menu.  Encore said I have an oprhan timeline, but I don't see how, since it's my only time line and each chapter points to it.
I built a Blu-Ray disc and it works great except for a half a second freeze in audio and video as it plays through each chapter point.  I built a DVD from the same project and it does not have this issue but its video is jerky during movement such as a scene where I'm panning the camera to follow an actor.
The export settings from permiere were:
    1920x1080, 29.97 fps, upper
VBR, 2 pass, Target 25.00 Mbps, Max 30.00 Mbps
    PCM, 48 kHz, Stereo
I found several threads that seemed to be similar to these issues going all the way back to Encore CS4, but I haven't found any solutions.
    So to sumarize:
I have four issues in order of importance:
    1. Blu-Ray freezing briefly as it plays through chapter points
    2. DVD has jerky video in higher motion scenes
    3. Transcoding what should already be Blu-Ray ready video
    4. Orphaned timeline that doesn't seem to affect anything
    Any suggestions?

I wanted to test a possible issue with the freezes, but never got to it. Sorry you did not get any responses.
The bluray should not freeze as you go through chapter points on a timeline. The fact that the timeline is an orphan is curious. You might post a screenshot of your flowchart.
What version of Premeire are you using to create the exported files?

  • KDL-40EX40B TV with builit-in Blu-Ray DVD player

All of a sudden the integrated blu-ray DVD player has quit working.  When I insert a DVD, nothing happens.  I've tried several DVDs and it doesn't seem to recognize the presence of any DVD.  I tried pulling the plug and then putting it back in.  I also tried to reset the settings for Video on the XMB, but for some reason I couldn't access the settings.  What should I do?

I am having the exact same issues.  When I try to access the Blu-ray menu it simple hangs at Loading disc.  There are multiple topics/users with this issue with little responses from SONY.  Please advise.

  • Adding Blu-Ray Templates(?)

Does anyone know if there is a discussion already on how to add in additional templates for Blu-Ray menu (In the share destination action)?
I wanted to know if I can generate my own moving background file, and place it into a "folder" somewhere that will allow me to use it in FCPX. This is something that I do consistently in DVD Studio Pro, but I am looking to try it via the share destination for Blu-Ray.
Attemping to avoid purchasing another software package that will author a Blu-Ray for a single job that has come up.
    Thanks all!

The share to BD is only for very basic disc burning.
To the best of my knowledge there is only the rubbish menu that comes with FCP X.
You would need some other app to produce BD or DVD menus.

  • PS3 (blu-ray player) will not play movie after menu selection on this particular project?

When trying to play my finished Blu-ray disc on PS3 the menus display and work good. However, when I choose a selection to play the movie it returns back to the main menu. It doesn't matter if I choose the main play button or one of the chapters on the scene selection menu, it does not play the movie but rather returns to the main menu. Menus appear to be working fine!
I've used Encore for years and I'm pretty familiar with the ins and outs of creating DVD's. I'm a little new at creating Blu-rays but have found the process very similar to creating DVDs with the addition of being able to add Popup menus. I pretty much followed the same process as a Blu-ray I created a couple months ago which worked fine. So I'm pretty much at a lose how to trouble shoot this issue. The only thing that has changed is that I've upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite but I really don't know if that is a factor or not. Encore did not run into any issues while working on the project.
Everything works when previewing my project in Encore. All the menus and buttons work and the movie plays fine. Also, no errors are reported after running the Check Project process on the Build tab.
I usually create an ISO file to burn from later. Encore created the ISO file and reported success.
I'm running Adobe CS6 on a Mac with Yosemite. FCPX was used to output the AC3 audio file and 264 video file. Menu transitions are ProRes422.
So far while trouble shooting I've made 3 coasters.
1st disc was created using Yosemite Disk Utility to burn the ISO file created by Encore (my usual way).
2nd, and 3rd disc I let Encore burn directly from the project.
3rd disk I removed the PopUp menu as I've only done one in the past and figured I would try that as a trouble shooting step.
So, since everything appears fine Encore I'm really not sure how to trouble shoot this. I wish Apple would support Blu-ray better so I could just open the ISO file in DVD Player like I do when I create DVD ISOs. So much easier than having to trouble shoot by creating coasters.
If anyone has come across this issue before and has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I'd like to complete this project and move on.
    Thanks in advance!

Well, at this point I'm thinking maybe something is wrong with the movie files output from FCPX even though they play fine in Encore. I noticed that there is a one frame difference between the video and audio file. The video file is 00:38:45:01 and the audio file is 00:38:45:02. I already output the file using Compressor. However, I'm still seeing the exact same time difference between the video and audio file when imported back into Encore. I'm going to rebuild the Encore project from scratch using the movie files output from Compressor and try again. If that doesn't work I'll use 7toX to convert FCPX XML and try importing the XML into Premier Pro and output the movie files that way for Encore. Or, output a master file from FCPX and let Encore do the transcoding.

  • Menu Problem with Blu Ray

Can anyone help? I've created a project that contains 2 edited movies. I have added a main menu, and given both movies a main menu marker, and an end marker. Normally on DVD's this would send you back to the main menu when each of the films were completed, but I cannot get this to work with Blu Ray. Am I missing something here? What happens in this case is that the Disc starts with the menu, but if you pick the first item, the film will play OK, but instead of reverting back to the main menu, it carries on and shows the next .. and on completion, just terminates - does not go to the menu. The same if you select the second item. it just plays through and terminates. It seems that the End markers are being ignored. Has anyone got any ideas ??

You can see how this product works by going to http://Muvipix.com and typing "DVD Architect" in the product search box. This will bring up a free 3-part Basic Training tutorial series where you can see the product demonstrated.

  • Blu-Ray audio does not loop properly on simple menu

I have authored a Blu-Ray disc using CS4 of Encore. Each menu is very simple: No motion elements. I have added a short clip of music to each (about 30 seconds). This is already transcoded AC3 audio (to ensure it matches the audio on the main movie(s)).
When playing back in test mode, the menus play fine. However, on a PS3 (the only BD player I have), it plays a few seconds (up to 10 seconds) of the audio and then loops. The false loop point occurs at different times on each menu.
The loop point on the menus is 0. The audio length is set to 30 seconds in the project and the menu is set to loop forever.
    Anyone else come across this?
    Thanks

Seems that this is a bug (rather bad one, actually), but there is a work around of sorts.

    Hey guys !
My Toshiba Qosmio F60-100 works perfectly. There's just the blu ray drive that causes problems, because each time I put a Blu ray in, it starts the "Win DVDBD" program but never starts to play the movie or even the menu.
I just don't know how I can solve this problem.
I have already tried with the famous update but when I try to install it, i get a message telling me that the update isn't for my computer.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Volki

Yeah I've tried several BDs. It's really strange because sometimes it worked, but after I restarted it two or three times. Now It's the fourth Disk that makes reading problems. Now, I remember. I got to solve the problem once, because I registrated for win dvdbd. It worked .. until I shutted down my laptop. Now it's the same as before.
