Blu-Ray Stops Playing at 1st Chapter Marker

I am battling an issue I cannot get my arms around.  I have a 3-hour video that I have sent From Premier Pro (CS4) to Encore via Adobe Link.
In Encore I rendered the video as a Blu-Ray image and set the play parameters to make the disc auto-playing.  That is the DVD has no menu start page.  The First Play is set to the beginning of the timeline, and the End action is STOP.
I do not have any Overrides set at all in my Encore project.  I have checked both the disc and the timeline panels, and Override is set to "Not Set" in both cases.
I have Encore Chapter Markers at the origin of the timeline and at every day thereafter of an 18 day trip.
The .iso image file produced by Encore was then copied to discs using CyberLink Power2Go.
When the (Blu-Ray) DVD is put into a player, it starts fine but then terminates play at the 1st marker after play starts (this is actually the 2nd timeliine marker, as the first is at the origin, or zero point) about 9 minutes into the DVD.
When I examine the Stream file  (BDMV>STREAM>00000.m2ts) on the disc, it does contain the entire video, and it plays just fine.
Thus I am assuming that something has not correctly constructed the playlist scripts causing the playback to start at the beginning but STOP at the first Chapter marker it encounters after starting play.
Any thought on how to debug and fix this issue will be GREATLY appreciated!!
PS - I just opened this Encore project and used the Preview function to play the video.  The preview STOPS also at the first chapter marker (9 minutes into the video) exactly as in the finished DVD.
I can find nothing unusual about this marker, but it is obviously the culprit!

OK.  I think I found the issue but not sure why!
When I set the project up in Encore in the Flowchart window I set the Timeline icon (linked to by the disc as the 1st play item) to an End Action of STOP.
Since it was the entire timeline that was my 1st play asset, I assumed that the STOP End Action would be at the end of the DVD.
BUT, apparently it Stops when it encounters the first Marker.
If I go to the Timeline in Encore and click on the individual Markers, all of them but the first one have an End Action of "Not Set" but the first one has "Stop".
I have just changed that 1st (at the timeline origin) Marker's End Action to "Not Set" and the last Marker to "Stop"
I'm guessing this will fix it.  Will report back after I preview things.

  • Compressor - export to Blu-ray with more than 6 chapter Markers?

    Hi,
I'm interested in creating Blu-Ray discs.  I've played around taking a self contained 30 minute movie I created with FCPro 7 - it has several chapter markers put in while editing in  FCPro.
I took the SC movie and brought it into Compressor and burned directly to a DVD with the Chapter markers.  It worked perfectly.
2 questions, if anyone has done this . . . if I buy a Blu-Ray burner and firewire it into my MacBook Pro - can I burn the Blu-Ray exactly like I did the conventional DVD?  Except now it'll be High Definition?  I'm guessing in COmpressor, when I 'selected' the internal DVD burner - I guess I'll see the new external Blu-Ray one after I firewire it into the MacBook Pro?
My question is, will it then burn to the Blu-Ray exactly like it did to the internal conventional DVD burner, except be in HD now?
I just don't want to buy a Blu-Ray burner and have something nt work?  Thanks, if anyone can confirm this.
I also have Roxio Toast Titanium 11.  But keeping it all in Compressor seems easier - with limited screens.
Oh, I only get 6 chapter markers on a screen thru Compressor.  Any tricks as to how I can get more than 6?  I have like 30, and I'd rather not go thru 5 screens getting to the end!
Thanks very much if anyone has any experience in this area.
    Larry

Thank you, Shawn.  You're confirming everything I thought!
Just asking . . . perhaps you have a few thoughts here:
    - Is Compressor version 4 any "different" than 3.5 - as far as just dropping in a QT movie master to compress?
    - I guess there's no way to get more than 6 Chapter Markers in Compressor DVD?  I don't see a way, perhaps there is? Or . . . I have to learn toast!  But I can do that!  Just easier if Compressor would do it all!
    Thanks again

  • H.264 Blu Ray will play in most players, H.264 will not. Is this true?

I was told that the H.264 is a universal format, but to make it play to Blu-Ray standards for players you must use H.264 Blu-ray.  If not, it may not play in all Blu- Ray type players . The same goes for MPEG-2 Vs. MPEG-2 DVD.
    Is this true?
    Thanks in advance
    Premiere Pro CS 5.5
    Encore 5.5

    Power Mac Intel Xeon

to phrase the answer another way...
h.264 for Bluray is a subset of the full h.264 standard.
Why? Because it has constrictions on it so that the bluray player's silicon-chip h.264 decoder doesn't have to be overly complicated (thus cheaper)..
So, while a non bluray h.264 stream MAY play on a bluray player, it isn't EXPECTED too.
As an example - if you compare the h.264 to the h.264 bluray columns you'll see that h.264 has "Levels" 3.0...5.2 but BR only has a subset of those. Likewise for the "Profile" and Screen Resolutions @ specific FrameRates.
Note that both are h.264/AVC encodings, it's just that the BD version is allows far less combinations of settings.

  • Blu-ray disk plays with snowy pictures at the beginning

I need help with a new issue with my burning (Win 7 Pro, CS5.0 from Adobe's original installation disks, LG BD-rewriter; different BD-R, BD-RE blank disks: Sony, Philips, Kodak).
While playing within Encore with the "Preview From Here" feature doesn't show any problem, burning (either directly from Encore, or from file with ImgBurn) and playing for the TV on the Blu-ray player (Panasonic DMP BDT330), every once in a while, the beginning of some menu items plays a snowy noise intermittent with some black frames for anywhere between 3 - 6 seconds. Playing back several times, this issue happens at the beginning of different menu items (and mainly when playing a playlist with the same items).
Playing commercial Blu-ray disks, or my older Blu-ray disks, there is nothing wrong with the playback.
It seems to me that this is something either that Encore or the LG OD does. Before I start reinstalling the CS5 suite (removing it with Revo first), I would greatly appreciate any idea about the cause of this behavior.
Also, it would help me to eliminate some of the possible culprits if I could play back the Blu-ray disk directly from my BD drive. I would appreciate any suggestion for a good and tested software (free, or paid for) that would not interfere with Adobe (or mess up my "pristine" OS ).
    Thank you very much,
    Laci.
P.S. My guess at this point is that the culprit is the BD burner. While commercial DVD/BDs are "pressed", home burners use PCM (phase change memory - and also memories from my Intel years working on their reliability). If the burner laser gets older/defective, then the melting/recristallisation of the PCM lmemory element might not be "perfect", and when it is read, it sometimes gives the wrong response (even with ECC which I am not sure they employ in DVDs).
I am still waiting for, and greatly appreciate, some advice before I rush to buy a new burner or reinstall the whole CS5.
    Thanks,
    Laci.
P.P.S. Sorry for all these information most of which is probably irrelevant (especially the PCM memory part ). I opened (should have done first) the BD disk on my computer and checked the m2ts files in BDMV > STREAM > *.m2ts. They all (including the motion menus) play flawlessly on the computer with WMP. So, the burning and playback of these files causes no problem. The problem most probably comes when Encore builds the navigation. Since the motion menus on the disk also play without any hickups, I assume that it is the Encore itself that causes these problems. I am going to reinstall CS5. (The still open question at this point is, how it is possible that this snowy few seconds before some of these m2ts files does not always happen at the same m2ts file playing back the same BD disk on the TV.)
I would still appreciate some input from the expert users.
BTW, is there any program out there whith what I could substitute Adobe Encore? (This is the only weak spot of the entire suite ).
    - Laci.

the beginning of some menu items plays a snowy noise intermittent with some black frames for anywhere between 3 - 6 seconds. Playing back several times, this issue happens at the beginning of different menu items (and mainly when playing a playlist with the same items).
What does menu items mean? I assume that it is menus themselves, not timeline movies?
What could Encore do that would create this? I don't know, but assume that it is more likely to do with disk seek problems and the like. And yes, where things are put physically on the disk can be an issue. But burn/disk issues are more likely.
Have you tried this on a different player?

  • Which Blu-ray players play Encore BDs?

Other threads in this forum state that only some consumer Blu-ray players will play BD-R disks authored by Encore.  As I understand the situation, it has to do with a copy-protection code present in commercial Blu-ray disks but not on "amateur" disks burned on PC-mounted burners, and the insistence of some players, but not all, on finding that code.  In my experience BDs authored by Encore CS5 and burned on my LG BH10LS30 burner will play on a Panasonic SC-BT100 player and a Samsung BD-C5500 player, but not an LG BD390 player.
Is there a list of which players will play BD-Rs without the commercial copy protection code?  Or is there a way, other than buy-and-try to determine this information?  A claim to handle BD-R media appears insufficient since the LG player above makes that claim but rejects the same disks played by the other two.

Sony Outlet in Camarillo, CA.  The sales guys are on commission which probably helps.  I just told him my exact purpose and goal.
In my case it was one player on one TV.
I'm thinking if you just ask your local shop they would do the same (hopefully).

    Rob,
Not sure which OS you are running, but there is an updated version of the player software for Win7 that might make a difference...

Otherwise, you could try uninstalling the application, and reinstalling it from application recovery.

  • Movies don't stop at next chapter marker!!

Is it time to move up to iDVD8?
Using iDVD6 I can't seem to get movies to stop at the next chapter marker; they just keep playing; which makes markers and buttons for each chapter meaningless. What can I do; other than use DVDSP?
    regards, alan

just to add to Fred's excellent advice, you would have to add separate / independent QT movies to achieve your stated objective.
Also if you upgrade you may find it even more difficult in that you will no longer have the ability to do custom chapter markers within iMovie7.
In other words, iMovie 6 retains custom chapter makers whereas iMovie 7 does not. This feature has given way to interval chapter markers (ever so many mins) in an attempt to make the video editing app more user friendly.

  • Blu-ray requests

    1. I have been making blu-rays using CS3 and CS4 with h.264 assets.  The h.264s are 720p 59.94.  I use one timeline for my projects with multiple assets.  for some reason when I make a disc image and a disc from that image, both encore CS3 and CS4 put a extra chapter at 33 seconds into my longer assets where there is no chapter marker on my timeline.  I have checked on my timeline in premiere and have no chapter markers there either.
    2.  In CS4 between my assets the finished blu-ray will play between 10seconds and 2minutes of black before moving onto the next asset on the timeline.  CS3 does not have this problem.  So I have been using it instead of CS4 for all my blu-ray projects.
    3.  Neither CS3 or CS4 puts invisible chapter markers at the end of assets like it does for DVDs.  So if I have assets on multiple timelines and the video is playing between the last chapter on that timeline and the end of the timeline, the user cannot skip forward to the next timeline.  Instead they have to wait the remaining duration of the current timeline.  I have tried putting manual chapter markers on the end of my timelines but they don't go exactly at the end of assets because of restrictions on the timeline to where you can put chapter markers.  It looks really awful because you see the last bit of the remaining timeline before the disc continues onto the next.
    3.  Navigation functionality:  The menu remote button does not work with blu-rays in encore and there is no way to skip backward to previous timelines.
This is a problem because users have to go back to the very beginning of a disc and skip forward until they get to the chapter they want and if they go to far, have to start all over again at the beginning of the disc.
These are my main problems that I have to get fixed.  Numbers 1 and 2 are the most important.  If I can have all my assets on one timeline with no extra chapter markers and no black between assets I would not need to worry about using extra timelines.
    Thanks
If anyone has any suggestions I am open to any help.

    Joe,
Im having the same problems as jbandy. I have authored countless DVDs in Encore from the first version through CS4.This summer I bought my first HD camera, so I decided to move on to authoring in BD. Please dont put the blame on my authoring practices.Ill give you several reasons why!
    1. First let me say moving to Win 7 seems to have helped somewhat.
    2. Some of us have computer systems that are not up to what the experts run, but still met the minimum requirements to run CS4.
    3. I author family videos that run chronologically in one year time frames. With DVDs I have always edited my clips down to fit one years worth
of video on one DVD (1 houe). With BD it has allowed me to extend my finished project up to 2-3 hours.
    4. Ive found that I never get a clip perfect with the first edit, so I edit each clip separately. (Many different clips with a scrolling entro that
always gets edited) Now with H264 encoding it takes quite a while to encode. My set up takes 8-10 minutes for each minute of video.  I encode all clips in PPro first and then import into Encore(no need to let Encore encode). I then let Encore transcode the audio.I will rename the encoded AC3 files to match the original wave files and use them in the project.I started doing this because I was building and rebuilding the project trying to get one that would work as it should. (no pause between clips and or the forward and back buttons to work on the remote.) The forward and back buttons always work in the preview mode in En.
    5. It is be impractal to try and encode a 3.5 hour video all at one time on all but the most powerful systems.(I have done it) At this point all assets are good to go.
    6. Now heres where it gets dicey. I have two finished projects. The first was built with one time line (3 hours 17 minutes).I built and burned this project many (countless) times trying to get the pause between each chapter to a minimum,(ok but not up to what I would really like to see) (all the forward and back buttons work on the remote). Its finally acceptable but I dont know what I did to make it so, (because so many rebuilds).I tried project one with both a single timeline  and multiple timelines with a playlist. Project 2 was finished with multiple time lines with a playlist. I can navigate forward except for chapter 5(go figure) but cannot navigate backward with the remote.
    7. Now the conclusion, Project 2 seems to be the more acceptable (with playlist). Both projects work perfect in the preview window in EN cs4.I build an image file and use ImgBurn for all my burning. Now for the coup de graus. I cant get another good burned BD out of the original image file! Im using Memorex BD-RE and a Buffalo external burner.I dont know whose fault it is I cant replicate a good burned BD.But I dont think its OE!(but maybe).
So Ive just acceped what I ended up with, until Adobe, Memorex or Buffalo gives me a better product.
    Thanks for listening

  • DVD/Blu-ray authoring, flickering issues, letterbox

    Hello friends,
I've used these forums in the past, and you have always been so helpful. Although it's been a while and the interface has changed drastically on these forums, for the worse I'm afraid, it's good to be back here learning from the masters.
I'll make these points and queastions direct and with little proxy:
    1. My film is in a 1920X1080 timeline. 422 Pro Res. 23.98fps. 16X9. Shot it on a Canon 5D Mark II. I put a widescreen 1.85.1 mask on all of the footage. When I export to quicktime and play the video on my Macbook, it plays with significant letterboxing (which is what I like). I assume it does this because my Macbook monitor is not widescreen.
But, when I use Compressor and burn a H.264 Blu-ray, and play the film on my HD TV: no letterboxing, no mask, nothing. Just boring HD video with no cinematic look. I guess this is because the tv is widescreen like the footage so the footage fits on it.
So the question lies: is there anyway to view my mask or letterbox on a DVD with a widescreen or HD TV? Without losing quality or distorting picture?
I've tried messing with every setting in Compressor, like cropping, panning, letterbox filter. None of it works. Panning seems like it compresses the video. And I can't go as far as using a 2.35.1 mask, because we stupidly didn't shoot for that originally. Anyway, I thought a 1.85 mask would be enough to show on TVs.
Another thing I tried was nesting my 16X9 sequence into a 4X3 sequence. That gave me letterboxing. But then I was stuck in 4:3 when I would try to export -- so I tried changing the sequence to Anamorphic, exporting, still stuck in 4:3. I guess if I could someone change this letterboxed 4:3 sequence back to 16X9, I will have successfully solved the problem. But perhaps I would have lost HD somehwere along the way.
Basically, I want the bars. I want the cinematic look. How do I acheieve it? So much for no proxy, huh?
    2. A supplemental question: I've got some vertical vectors in my film, like lines or doorways, bed posts... that flicker on DVD and blu-ray. I've heard using a directional blur works. 2 out of a 100. At 3 effect level, or something. That doesn't seem to fix the problem. Any other way to stop this distortion?
    3. And lastly, I've got a couple of outside shots / daylight shots that have a real just general flickering problem. I don't know why. I've tried the flicker filter in FCP, but that doesn't seem to do anything to stop the jarring flickering. Any ideas on how to rid my film of this flickering?
Thank you, in advance, for any solutions or suggestions. I am much oblidged and my skills are humbled in this forum of Final Cut knowledge.

  • Preview works, Blu-Ray disc doesn't!!!

I've finished my adobe encore project and when I preview the work, it works fine. For example, my button that links to my next menu where my video files are located comes up fine in preview mode. The same thing for when I click on one, it starts up fine as do my chapters as well. The problem is after my disc is burned - once the main menu comes up it quickly goes to the next menu and starts the first file. I've tried pressing the title button on my remote but it continues to do the same error.

You mention playing chapters.  Are you using Chapter Playlists?  If so, this could be your problem - Blu-ray does not allow for Chapter Playlists.
Despite this, the navigation is often OK when tested in Encore, but the BD will not play correctly in a player.

  • Issues burning compatible Blu-rays

I had some complaints that some of the Blu-rays which I recently produced in 1080i were not working on some Blu-ray players.  In researching the issue I learned that many Blu-ray players require an AACS Folder in order to function.  However, the Blu-rays produced by Premiere Elements 13 do not have that folder.  Of course, firmware upgrades may fix the problem on the players, but one can't expect their customers to do that in many cases.  Nor should they.  Then I learn that one can burn an ISO to get the folder onto the disk.  Of course when I try it, I find that it doesn't work on files bigger than 1.3 gigs.  This is a huge problem and I have a job to get out.  Is there a solution?  This was a low budget job, done to line up some large jobs in May and June.  This is the fourth generation of Premiere Elements and there is no reason there should compatibility issues of this sort.  Please restore my faith in Adobe, I am in the process of likely converting to Lightroom an upgrading to full Photoshop from Elements, however at the moment I am very disappointed because I feel this issue is intentional.

    Thanks for the reply.
Do not copy the CERTIFICATE Folder from the Premiere Elements burn to Blu-ray disc, only its BDMV Folder in the plan described above.
ImgBurn should generate the CERTIFICATE Folder....to be sure....

  • Blu-ray error message CS6 BUILD

I have created a HD submenu in CS6 Encore to front a (AVCHD camcorder files) video sequence edited in Premiere Pro 6. I have entered Build and begun a Blu-ray disc creation/burning process. As the burn process reaches the final 0.27Gb of data, the disc burning process ceases, and the following error message appears on the monitor screen:: "Blu-ray Error: "device error", Code : 3, Note: "Create Stc Sequence : Fail to write M25 file ".
