Blue Background Login Screen Problem

Hello everyone,
I tried to change my login screen's background using sudo commands and now it's this light blue and I can't seem to change it no matter what method I try.
This is the method that messed everything up:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070610164328933
I looked in my computers login plist as well as my CoreServices folder to make sure that the login image is the image I want and they both have the correct folder down. Has anyone had this problem and fixed or helped someone fix this?
This is a purely aesthetic problem but it's really, really getting to me. It's almost to the point where I'm trying to revert to an older time on my computer (Time Machine?).
If someone could please help, it would be greatly appreciated.

I found the solution to this problem on another forum. If anyone finds this, this is what you do:
Delete the com.apple.loginwindow.plist that you can find in the /Library/Preferences folder. After this I recommend using an Application to set your backround (so that you aren't fiddling with things yourself). You can either use Desktop 2 Login or Login Back -- either work. Anyways, I'd back up your plist file before you delete just incase. This worked for me and hopefully it works for you.

    Hi -

    there were no suggestions.

instead of refreshing into the blue screen with the startup progress

into a light gray screen with four black rectangles (bricks) across

The four bricks on gray background is a Display/Driver problem of some kind.
What display card are you running?
My first thought was a display problem - but the card seems OK (info below)
because tartups from any disk other than the one running 10.4.9 are OK.
If the driver were bad would one expect to see the
Gray Apple start-up? Do you think reinstalling the 10.4.9 Combo
is the best first approach to resolve the problem?

  • Lion login screen problems on Mid 2009 MacBook Pro

After upgrading my wife's Mid 2009 MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion we are seeing weird behavior on the login screen after the computer wakes from sleep mode.
The screen is only partially drawn (usually the top left 1/4 of the screen), and the grey background is shown instead of her desktop background picture. When you move the mouse around on the screen, it repaints blocks on the screen where the pointer has been.
This only seems to happen when the machine sleeps for a long period of time, e.g., overnight. When it just sleeps for a little while we don't see the issue.
When searching the forums for anyone else with the problem, several folks said that there was an issue with the video drivers for the 9400M card and recommended switching to the 9600M GT, but her machine only has the 9400M in it.
All other aspects of the system work fine.
Anyone else seeing this? Any clues?

Surprised there hasn't been anyone else experiencing this issue.
    I have seen this on 2 new MBP 2.3mhz i5's with the Intel HD 3000 384mb graphics, Lion 10.7.3 & 10.7.4.
Also with the latest Lion firmware for the late 2011 MBP's that addresses compatibility and stability issues.
Hopefully there is a fix soon because the painting on my locked screen to login is getting annoying

  • OSX Yosemite login screen problem.

    Hello,
I've been using a 15" Macbook Pro with Retina Display for almost a year now, and recently got a problem.
The login screen shows some wavy-lines, and they only appear when i start or restart my macbook, and i wonder if it got worse.
If anyone has any fixes, please let me know by replying to this thread.
    Thank you,

I have the same thing when I encounter the login screen. I "think" it's just a blurred image of what will appear as your background image on your desktop after logging in.

  • WRT54GX v2 LOGIN SCREEN PROBLEMS

I am trying to setup my router but when i log onto the main page it only loads a third of the page... just some background and a few text boxes... i can not see any buttons or menu options... i have not done anything with this router as far as upgrading firmware or any other kind of setup before... i bought it back in April or so.
    any help is appreciated

When I read the problem in this forum I thought "hey" that's exactly what I've got. Only the solution is not so appropriate for me. My login screen will not show in Explorer (V 7.0) or in Firefox/Mozilla (V5.0). It shows exactly what the previous user has described. About one-third of the page, with most of the menu options at the top missing and no "save settings" button at the bottom.
I've tried switching my CA Security Suite firewall off as well as the Windows XP firewall, no luck.
I just need to get to the "change password" screen. Does anyone know what the URL is for this. I've tried login.htm, userid.htm, password.htm etc. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hello, I have a problem with my macbook (lion): my login screen doesn't work well cause I disabled my profile visualization using onyx. Now I can see only the guest user and  I can't enter in my admin profile. How can I riactivate my admin profile?

I misunderstood your question. It's not your FileVault password that's the problem, it's the EFI password.

  • Multiple login screen problem

We've got a set of forms that seem to not be able to hold on to the client id generated by WSGSEC.SECURITY_CHECK. Users are getting the login screen at seemingly random times when using the form, for example, when clicking an LOV link, a login screen will pop up, and the user needs to login again before seeing the LOV window. The client_id, username and expires_on values are all getting saved to WSGSEC_SESSIONS, and sessions are being added everytime a user logs in.
Where do the cookies get saved? I suspect not on the client hard drive, because I haven't been able to find them, but cookies are being saved (I changed my browser setting to prompt for cookies and I do get prompted to save cookies while using the form).
    Any insight?
    thanks.

    bump...
More info: This behavior only occurs in Internet Explorer (I'm currently running 6.0.2). Everything is fine in Firefox.
Has this happened to anyone else? Are there any browser settings in IE that stop this? My customers have no control over their programs and can't use anything but IE.
    thanks.

  • Talking Login Screen Problem "you are currently on a scroll area..."

    Hi,
On my login screen the text box shown below appears and the MBA reads aloud the text, eg: " you are currently on a scroll area...".
Its obviously some sort of universal access option, but I cannot see any universal access or text to speech options that are turned on in system prefs and it only happens during the login screen, never on the desktop.
I would be eternally grateful if anyone knows specifically where this can be turned off?

Found it ! Its not an access option after all, Go to...
System Prefs / Users and Groups / Login Options (below the list of users, NOT 'Login Items')
Uncheck 'Use Voiceover in the login window'
    Phew! that was irritating

  • Mac OS X Lion displays grey (No background) login screen before Apple boot screen

    Try reinstalling Lion:
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • ODM on Win7, login screen problem

Hi, I downloaded ODM from OTN, when I try to run odminerw.exe on my Win7 laptop the screen pops up but without any input objects, just a blank screen. Has anybody experienced something like this, is this a bug? Thanks.

    Hi,
We have not been able to reproduce a problem on WIN 7.
Did you modify the JRE shipped with the ODMr in anyway?
Can you run ODMr so the console is displayed in case any exceptions are being thrown? odminer.exe
Maybe there is some access issue here.
Try deleting the ODMiner folder in your User/AppData.
This will trigger ODMr to recreate the folder.
    Thanks, Mark

  • Blue background?

Is there a way in Pages to set a blue background on screen with white type?

    Centered / Strive for difference
Maybe a rather mute point by now.  However this is something that also has bothered me as I've enjoyed the blue background white text as well.
A workaround I've used is inverting the colors in Settings > Unversal Access to White on Black text.  Not quite White on Blue but accomplishes the same goal and prints normally.  Also easy to turn on and off.  (Not completely my idea, I just thought from the iphones ability to invert colors Mac OS should do the same and stumbled upon a similar image as below for a possible answer to some other issue with colors, but solved my poblem!!)
Another quick hint I looked up, hold: Ctrl, Option, Cmd then press 8 to quicky toggle on and off.
Refreshing to get away form all that 'normal' color sometimes. Don't you think?

  • Frozen Login Screen on MacBook Pro 6,2 (Mid 2010) MacOS X Lion (Hardware or Software related?)

I have found the frozen login screen problem everytime I start my MacBook Pro 6,2 with Lion. I have tried everything from a simple "restore from a time machine back up" to a "clean Lion install" and the problem still appears.
Does anyone know if this problem is software or hardware related?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

    Interesting you mentioned ATI...
when I use F8 during the boot  process, and used the enable boot logging, which writes to ntbtlog.txt
The very first driver that DID NOT LOAD was... yes an ATI driver.  I had just used the thinkvantage system update to update all the drivers because of a series of BSoD, but it always rebooted before...now I just get the vista magnifier the light blue background and the mouse / pointer..
It seemed to only enable the logging for one time... which is not good, because if you want to say turn on low resolution graphics, then it wasn't logged. I think with the 2081-CTO I got the 'switchable graphics'  not sure...  But doing the low resolution boot option, just got a low resolution magnifier... and still didn't finish the boot process.
Anyone know how to keep the logging on?
Here is the list of drivers not loaded:
    systemroot\system32\atikmdag.sys  <-  ati video driver
    systemroot\system32\lgdkmd32.sys
    systemroot\system32\dxgkrnl.sys
    systemroot\system32\ndproxy.sys

    systemroot\system32\srv.sys
    systemroot\system32\parport.sys
systemroot\system32\kmxagent.sys <--- same driver trying to load for 3rd time...
Sys: 2081-CTO Vista w/ SP1 and fully up to date , bios up to date v1.2
Waited for the xp disk to trash vista... got the 3 discs ...
First I got the continual reboot, and had to go into the bios --> SATA and change the ACHI to Compatible
Now I get the "If you have a "Produce Recovery Supplimental disk" error... I do hope I have DVDs and 3 are all I need, but using all 3 DVD's multiple times ... thinking I put the wrong one in... I hope I do NOT have to wait a 3rd time for DVDs!
I hope this helps someone... but I'm not to end of job as yet...
