Blue boxes instead of pictures

When ever i go on a page in safari that has pictures, i only see half of them. The rest show up as blue boxes with a question mark. Anyone know what's up?

That's normal. It means that the server where those images are obtained is not functioning or the image links themselves are no longer correct or no longer active. Nothing you can do about it except report it to the site's webmaster.

All pictures in my pdf is grey boxes instead of pictures - what's wrong?
I use Acrobat 9 Pro (just startet with cs4).

    Hi Bad AD,
Doubt you still have this issue but the quick fix to being able to view the document is to go to:
    Acrobat
      >Preferences
         >Documents
           >Find the Header:
                   PDF/A View Mode
View Documents in PDF/A mode:  Make picklist value: "Always"
    This should resolve it.
PDF/A mode is the international standard for long term document archiving. If you are interested in learning more about it, Click here to go to Wikipedia's explanation.
Hope it helps for you and anyone else who gets this message!

One more thing to try.  Double click on the home button.  Scroll in that bottom line of icons (swipe finger to left) to the app that are all white.  Hold your finger on the app until the - sign appears.  Tap it to close the app.  Hopefully it will then show up correctly.  (As they say about chicken soup curing a cold, "can't hurt")

  • Blue box around linked picture

I am trying to link some pictures on my homepage to other
pages in my site and when I link them, a blue box appears around
the picture. When I preview it in my browser, it gives me the
impression it is like a rollover or visited link. It turns the
default purple if I have clicked on it previously. I have changed
the page properties to make the link colors white, but that does
not help. Any suggestions or ideas??
    Thanks!

Add this to your CSS -
    a img { border:none; }

  • ?in blue box instead of images

Images within text not appearing on some websites.  Only ? in blue box appears. Same thing in Chrome and Firefox.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Blue box instead of image?

Why is it that I sometimes get a blue box with a question mark rather than the image? I've tried closing the browser and reloading, to no avail.
    Any suggestions? Thx!

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • How Do I get rid of a blue box around my picture "links"

    Hi,
I had troubles finding out how to make a menu bar, so I went: insert>image objects> Image Placeholder, I uploaded a button I made at a website.. the image works fine, but somehow I have a blue bar around the image... How do i solve this? Also, how do you insert an interactive image (a button that links to another page on my website?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    In your CSS add:
    a img {
        border: none;
and the blue box will go away.
Did you read that post yet?  The purple is just the default color for a visited link, but that code in your CSS will remove all borders from the images with links.

  • Empty boxes instead of pictures

Hi all . Got a prob on my wifes mac i hope some one can help . Instead of getting pictures it shows a blank box with a question mark in the middle , this sometimes happens when web browsing and e-mails ( O.S Snow Leopard ) any ideas as to get the picture and whats causing this to happen .
    Thanks Folks

    Hi,
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Appearance tab.
Make sure: *Display images when the page opens* is selected.
If that box was already checked, try emptying the Safari cache more often either from the menu bar or Command + Option + E on the keyboard.
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Might be an Extension causing a conflict.

  • Blue ? instead of pictures

Hii, i have a 15inch macbook pro (latest one available), and in my email and safari certain pictures dont appear but what does is a little blue question mark. ive had this laptop since february and i've done all the updates. this is really starting to annoy me!!
    PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    thanks

Those are usually picture files that have not been properly displayed. I don't use Apple's Mail, but I'm sure that there may be some default to downloaded all pictures, even if only for 'approved' email addresses. I don't use Safari, either, but there should be some setting to download all pictures on a given page.
This assumes, of course, that the link is not 'broken' - that can happen and there's no remedy for that.
Maybe a Mail/Safari user will chime in with the 'correct' settings.

  • Red X-boxes instead of pictures

Just downlded Flash and Red X-boxes appear where Flash pictures should be. I am coming back from total crashing, trying to use Farm Town game among general uses. At one point I did, in the crash box citing Flash 10c.ocx as problem, clicked "disable" box for something. I have removed all adobe products & reloaded. Still now Red X-box appears after installation process at Adobe page to verify install success film. Any suggestions appreciated.

Since Office is not an Apple product, you should post your question on the Microsoft Mac forums, as it's their software youre having trouble with

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Tick the box next to: Display images when the page opens.
If that box is already ticked, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems loading images, go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • I get blue boxes with "?" marks in them instead of words

I have tried everything I have read about. If I go to the apple website and check out the Battery Recal page at the bottom, I get those blue boxes instead of words. Pages won't build correctly also.
I've removed the com.apple Safari from my user/preferences list and put it on my desktop. I have taken the Safari app. from my husbands computer. I have reinstalled Quicktime. I have run out of solutions.

    Hello susie:
The blue boxes with "?" indicates that the page is not completely loading in a proper fashion.
    Clear the Safari cache
Trash the Safari preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restart.
Remove any Safari add-ons or "enhancers."
What sort of connection do you have to the Internet? Connections/ISP problems could also be a root cause of your problem.

  • Question marks in blue boxes

Hi. I'm having a hard time with images not loading in Mail and Safari -- getting question marks in blue boxes instead. I have tried emptying cache, refreshing page, checking and rechecking my settings, can't even download the image manually. Still no luck. Mac OS 10.4.7, Safari 2.0.4, Airport, cable connection (Comcast). Please help, as many of these images are important for me to see.
    Thanks so much.

Hi crawfordse6, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
    For Safari:
Preferences / Appearance / Check on "Display Images when page opens."
    For Mail:
Preferences / Viewing / Check on "Display remote images in HTML messages."
If that works for you, consider stars as discussed in the bottome portion of the Apple email notification you received. That's how to do "thanks" in these forums.

  • Blue boxes and frequent crashes--and no plugins

I'm another one who has been experiencing frequent Safari crashes and blue boxes instead of photos on certain pages.
I've read the voluminous posts and responses and still can't find one that solves my problem. I have checked the Library -->Internet Plug-Ins and there is no Java plug-in there.
However in Safari under Help-->Installed Plug-Ins, the Java Plug in for Cocoa is listed there.
I have not downloaded or installed any add-ons for Safari.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please help!

Did you run the Java 4 update that was available via Software Update? That should have put it into <you boot volume>/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and not into <you boot volume>/Users/<your username>/Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Give that a look see. If you don't have it, then manually download and install it, repair permissions, and restart. Retry Safari. If no go, download and reinstall Safari and repeat the other steps.
