Blue filter effect on non-apple displays

Hey,
i am still waiting for my new mac pro and researching to buy a minimum of 24" display for it. I used Imacs before so I am used to Apple's original colors and tones. However my wife's powerbook is hooked up to a 23" gateway HD 2275w monitor and the colors really suck on that monitor. It is nowhere near the powerbooks' tones. Color calibration of apple's system preferences also don't seen to be able to ix it. Anybody out there has experience w non-apple displays? Is there a way to overcome that "blue filter effect" on a non-apple display?
Thanks,
M

Color on LCDs can be affected by the backlighting. Flouresent backlights run a a significant gamut of color from warm red to cool blue.

  • Using an external non-Apple display on a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion

On Friday I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and now I am not able to use my 23" Samsung monitor exclusively as my display. I can mirror the MacBook Pro's display, but then my HD monitor's resolution is downgraded.
I used to start-up my MacBook Pro pushing the "On" button and then quickly closing the notebook. When it has started and the display was shown on my Samsung monitor, I opened the MacBook and all would be well. I had the benefit of the full HD resolution of my Samsung monitor, with all the menus and the MacBook's screen would be blank. If I follow the same steps now, the moment I open my MacBook, everything shifts back to the MacBook and the external screen only shows the background picture, with no menus.
I am a photographer and use the large HD-quality screen to see fine detail when I am doing editing. I do not like to work on two screens at the same time, and would prefer it to just keep on working in the same way as previuosly.
Can someone please give me advice on my problem?

This may help but then it may not. I tested it with my iMac and non-Apple second display so results may vary.
With both the MacBook and the second display powered on go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement
Drag the Menu Bar to the second display and then drag the display itself to the other side of the second display. This should allow acces to the dock and Menubar on the non-Apple display and achive your desired results.
Note: If I sleep my iMac the second display stops so you may need to keep your MacBook open to use these settings
    Hope that helps

  • Using a non Apple Display with the Mini

I am considering purchasing a Mac Mini.
It will be installed in my living room and connected to my stereo to play music from iTunes.
In this area I only have about 19 inches of width. So I'm looking at purchasing a non Apple display that will fit in this width.
What requirements should I look for in a display (hopefully to avoid adapters)?

Recommend you buy from someplace that has a good exchange/return policy.
Thanks, I always do, especially with a display.
Some places have a policy that requires a certain number of dead pixels before they will accept a return.
I ALWAYS test a display with 'Pixel Tester' immediately. If I find ANY defective pixels I return the display, and I never say the word "pixel" to them.
having one dead pixel that is white, for example, while all others show color, can be annoying.
And hard to re-sell later. Look on ebay, you will find many ads for used computers and displays that say "No Dead Pixels".

  • Can I use two  non-apple displays on my G5? Is there an adaptor for this?

I found a great deal on two non-Apple wide screen displays. I can hook up one to my G5 via the DVI port but can't use the second port--typically used by an Apple Display. Is there an adaptor that I can use so that I can use my second non-apple display?

Can I use a non Apple display with a new MacBook Pro?
    Special connections?

Only thing you need is a minidisplayport-to-? adapter ... plugs into Thunderbolt port.  ? is replaced by VGA or HDMI or DVI.
I have used high-quality brand names (LG, Samsung) that were picked because I liked the display and have had no issues.
I will add that some threads speak of issues with some Dell monitors that work spottily if at all.  But only from reading other threads.

  • Mac pro & non apple displays

is it true that some non apple display don't seem to be liked by mac pro. i have a dell E207WEP 20" display and with my mac pro it makes diagonal line ripples. its only with my mac pro. my past quad G5 didn't have this problem. + nothing wrong with my mac pro bc it works fine with apple displays and few others. nothing wrong with my display bc it works with other computers. but i've noticed that when i took the display to the store the same problem occurred which i used it with a store mac pro. is it a mac pro + dell compatibility issue? apple even replaced my ATI HD2600 but it did not fix anything.

its very weird bc this monitor and mac pro isn't meant to be. what do you think about this: http://www.macnn.com/articles/08/03/10/radeon.2600.xt.for.mac.pro/

  • Use non Apple display

It is possible to use a non Apple display or a regular computer monitor for the older black MacBook?

Any display up to 1920 x 1200 will work. You will need a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter

  • External non Apple Displays for Macbookpro

Looking for 22-24" external display for macbook 17" -- uses: photography, video editing and showing, lots of word processing and some spreadsheet work, occasionally a game. $900 for Apple display just too much, let alone $1799 for larger Apple. Nice, but no cigar. So what is good and competitive in price out there and compatible (really) with the Pro?

So what you are saying is you want us to do the same Google searching, find what you want (how would we even know what that may be) then give you the information. But you can't (or won't) do that. But, I'm offensive for suggesting you do that yourself. Since I'm being so offensive why not add to that:
The Apple Discussions are a user-to-user collection of forums to provide help with Apple products. It is not a "buying service" to help users purchase non-Apple products nor to provide help with non-Apple products.
You can find what you want by doing some research. It takes some time and effort. If you were willing to see things from a different perspective you would see that you are simply saying you want me (or someone else) to do what you aren't willing to do - as opposed to doing something you are unable to do.
If that's really offensive then I apologize, and, you're right, this response is hardly worth my trouble.

  • Non Apple Display compatability

    Hello,
I just joined this discussion and hope this is the appropriate place to ask my questions. I run a Powermac G-5 Dual processor with System System 10.4.6 and the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro graphics card. I have attached 1 Samsung SyncMaster 192 MP 19" monitor with a resolution of 1280x1024 @ 75Hz via the ADC input using an ADC-DVI adapter and a new 32" Insignia IS-LCDTV32 monitor with a resolution of 1400x1050 @ 60 Hz connected to the DVI input using a DVI-VGA adapter. My question is can I get better resolution on the Insignia than what I have by upgrading to a better graphics card? If so, what card would serve this system in a non-mirrored state? The only way I can run both monitors satisfactorily is by mirroring them. I'd like to extend my desktop real estate by not having to mirror them. I tried to connect both monitors using DVI but got poor results in both resolution and contrast.
I appreciate whatever help can be offered.

    **WARNING**
this link is for the modern PCI express G5, so if you have dual G5 processors, vs dual core G5 processor, this may not apply to you. Given that you are referencing the ATI 9600 card, I think this means you have an AGP platform...
the PCI express options (for dual core G5)
all of these NVIDIA cards listed offer desktop spanning, which is what you want. unless you are a graphics professional, the workstation Quadro card is probably not worth it to you unless, you know some day that you want the option of dual 30" ACD displays.
I personally would take the 7800GT as it price is not too high and its performance is on a different level than the 6XXX series products. If on the other hand, you don't use graphic intense applications, never play games, then the 7800 offers no real performance benefit over the baseline cards and will increase system heat and noise.
the AGP option (for single core or dual single core G5)

2nd the comment on using the native resolution of the display. different pixel pitches of each display makes it difficult to (seemlessly) span, as mentioned, but if you wanted to use 1 monitor for a video window or audio workstation controls, then perhaps that would not be so unusual.

  • Mac Pro and non apple displays

    hello all.
I used to have a dell display (really cheap TN non ultrasharp) and i was not happy with it at all. when connected to my mac i would get visible diagonal rippling lines through the display especially when viewing dark colours. however this was fine when i used boot camp windows. many from the discussion suggested that it was because mac likes IPS panels where the cheap brands use TN. so i got me a 20 in apple cinema display and i love it!. after three years i would love to upgrade to bigger display thats flexible, (HDCP and more connections) and not break my bank. at the moment im looking at dell again (sigh) the new ultra-sharp u2311h (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=e n&cs=19&sku=320-9270) this panel features IPS panel similar to previous ultra sharp models that had exact panels as the apple cinema displays. i would love to hear some opinions and tips.
and i would especially love to hear form ultra sharp users and their thoughts / experience. please please let me know.

When I said that NEC displays were much better than Dell's I was referring to the former's Multisync "LCD" range, which use different panels to their "EA" models.
"EA" models are classified as "office monitors" by NEC, whereas "LCD" models are "high end", and consequently are more expensive.
I have no idea how the NEC Multisync EA231WMi compares against the Dell Ultrasharp U2311H, but there is a lot more to a display than sharing the same panel. Although their displays are built around the same panel, NEC and Dell would be using different technology inside, and that is where the former has the advantage, because Dell does not "manufacture" high end/professional monitors.
Although Dell Ultrasharp monitors have received several good reviews, particularly with regard to value for money, they are not in the same league as NEC, EIZO, or LaCie, particularly where colour accuracy is paramount, and that is one of the reasons why they are usually much cheaper.
Some time before I purchased my NEC 30" display, Macworld UK published a review covering several 24" to 27" displays, including models from NEC, EIZO, LaCie, Dell and Samsung. The 26" LaCie model used the same H-IPS panel as the 26"NEC, but it was the NEC which walked away with the 5 star "Best Buy" award. The Dell 27" was judged to be value for money, but fell down on colour accuracy.
For further endorsement of the quality of NEC's "LCD" range see:
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/monitors/242010/nec-multisync-lcd3090wqxi
The point I am trying to make is that NEC have the expertise to produce the above exceptional quality display, whereas Dell do not. Doubtless, some of that expertise filters down to models in other NEC ranges. The panel might be the same, but the technology inside the display will most certainly be different between the two companies.
You pay your money, and you take your choice!
    Regards,
    Bill

  • MacPro 1.1 boot only in safe mode with a non Apple display (NEC 24")

Months ago my original Apple Cinema has broken and I subtituted it with a 24" NEC Multisync LCD 2490WUXi with good results.
After some months, for cleaning purpose, I formatted the boot HD and reinstalled Snow Leopard.
Since then I can restart only in safe mode - the DVD also start only in safe mode otherwise after loading the screen is blank and shows only the mouse pointer.
I noted on System Profiler that no monitor is shown and both the DVI ports of the graphical card (NVIDIA Geforce 7300) result not connected!
I have to thing that such a monitor is not known and therefore, as I don't know where get the original one, can I use the Cinema Display 30" (but it has a minidisplay port not present on my card) and how?
Or it is better the substitution of the card having the minidisplay port? What type is compatible with Mac Pro 1.1 (2008)?
Or, in conclusion, I have to trash all and abandon Apple?
Many thanks for your appreciated suggestions.
    Nerion

7300GTs are old in the tooth, there is a Boot Camp related firmware update that you should have seen in ASU.
The ATI 4870 - even flashed PC version - is one option.
I have seen other threads mention 7300.
I'd do the power off unplugged / power button for 10 second "Reset SMC" and see.

  • What is best non-apple display for 15 inch macbook pro with retina display?

I am looking for a good and reasonably priced monitor to use with my MBP retina.  I prefer one that rotates 90 degrees for portrait viewing. Any suggestions?
What adapter is needed to get good quality?  Is the dual link adapter worth $100?  Is it very much clearer than DVI?  How does the HDMI connection compare?  I've heard that HDMI only works as an external display in clamshell mode (computer closed).  Does HDMI transmit sound and video or would I need two cords?
    Thanks for any help!

The dual-link adapter is needed only for resolutions over 1920 x 1200.  It won't improve the picture of lower resolution displays.
HDMI carries audio and video (up tp 1920 x 1200).
DVI (single or dual-link) is video only.
Mini DisplayPort (or DisplayPort with an adapter cable) is audio and video (up to 2560 x 1600).
All will give the same picture quality.

  • Safari update effecting other non-Apple applications?

    Greetings All,
Updated Safari 3.2.1 in the vain hope that it would solve issues from the last update. Now a new problem. All files created in CAD application Vectorworks since update Safari take an inordinately long time to open. Not sure how or why Safari could effect other applications, beyond permissions, but...
I have repaired disk permissions, thrown away Safari preferences and restarted. A little better but not much.
    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

It is very unlikely that the Safari 3.2.1 update is responsible for this issue. I would suggest contacting the developer of the application that is misbehaving and asking them for assistance.

  • Buying Mac MIni (GIFT)   Can i connect it to dual  non-mac displays?

okay, If i buy the lower end mac mini as a christmas gift for my brother, can i connect it to a display not made by apple. If so, What addapters/Programs/Drivers do i need
    2::::
Can I connect it to multiple non-apple displays? If so, Again How??

The mini can connect to most digital (DVI) monitors and to standard VGA monitors (via included adapter). So you should be OK.
The "low-end" Intel Mini is a very nice computer.
For many tasks, such as running legacy PPC Mac programs like MS Office, it will perform much better if you buy it with at least 1024 Meg of RAM memory, rather than the standard 512 Meg RAM.
If your brother won't be running legacy apps like MS Office or Photoshop, then 512 Meg is OK -- though more RAM provides a substantial performance increase.
BTW -- what a nice brother you are!

Can I use my 27"iMac late 2009 as an external display for a non apple product such as a cable box?

To get TV on your iMac off the cable box you would need to use an external TV tuner device such as the company ElGato is highly regarded for.  I have used one of their EyeTV products for many years with my iMac to watch television shows from my Comcasst cable TV box.  You can look at the models here:
