Blue flashing screen - doesn't start up

I just had new RAM replaced on my iMac due to faulty RAM under waranty, and everything seemed to be working fine. I downloaded some updates today and restarted the computer. Now on start up the computer loads to an alternating blue screen and won't load.
When I restared the computer, I had just completed a back up, and left the external hard drive attached. Could this have created a problem?
I have tried to do the basic troubleshooting start ups but have had no luck. Do I need to do a reinstall off disc? If I do, do I loose everything that's on the hard drive?
Any suggestions on what could be the problem?

Hello s:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
I would take the computer back to whoever installed the RAM (under warranty). From what you posted, nothing you did should have caused a problem.
When I restared the computer, I had just completed a back up, and left the external hard drive attached. Could this have created a problem?
I seriously doubt it. My external drives are always connected.
Before you do anything else, I really do think that whoever replaced the RAM should fix the problem for you. There could, of course, be something else, but that is a good place to start.

  • Flash CC doesn't start up after last update

Flash CC doesn't start up after last update. It said "Training en zelfstudie" (Training and self-stufy in Dutch) for the update.
Everything was working fine before the update, now if I try to start-up Flash solo,
it says: "Flash werkt niet meer" (Flash has stopped working), and quits.
As you can probably tell from the message, I'm on Windows 7.
Now here is interesting info: if I double click a previous movie, then Flash starts up fine and loads the previous movie.
However when I close it and the screen that should appear is the "new movie" dialog, flash hangs again.
So obviously something went wrong installing the new update, or the update doesn't work properly.
I'm now working with my pre-cc flash5.5 version, which I re-installed to avoid crashing flash every time I close a file.
    My questions:
1- Where do I log this problem? (Or am I in the right place?)
2- Can I re-install the previous version, which worked fine? (I can live without tutorials etc.)
3- Can I try to re-install this version if the above is not possible and how do I go about doing that?

What fixed the problem for me was just reinstalling Flash CC. I thought I'd give it a try, because I couldn't find a message of anyone experiencing the same problem.
So I used the control panel to uninstall Flash, then I tried reinstalling.
Creative Cloud kept saying Flash is up to date, so you can't reinstall. If you click on the gear and choose Exit and then restart Creative Cloud it will take a few seconds, but the it will see the situation as it is and you can reinstall Flash.
After the reinstall the issue was gone.
Thanks for the other solutions, I think this is a handy resource for rolling back Flash if I ever do need it
and gives me more confidence in the creative cloud product.
Maybe Adobe will pick it up and make it easier for us 'normal' creative-cloud users to
pick which version we want. Like you can do in CVS systems.

  • My Ipod's screen doesn't start.

    Hi,
I have an Ipod nano 6th generation (with the touch screen) and one day it decided for no reason to not start. First I thought the battery was dead. But after 6 straight hours of recharge from a wall plug, it wouldn't start anyway. I tried to plug it onto my computer and Itunes could easily recognize it and sync it. But the screen of my Ipod wasn't turning on at any time even if my computer detected it.
I tried to restore it, but the problem stayed and I tried many solutions there were on the little booklet  and on the Apple's website (like pressing the power button and the ''-'' button for 6 seconds). Also, I searched throughout the forum but I didn't find any people who had the same problem.
I have an Acer computer with windows 7, but I don't think the problem comes from my computer because it did its job very well, it is just that the screen doesn't start at all.
So, should I return it to the store where I bought it or there is still something to do for that?
Any help would be very appreciated.
    Felix

oh and by the way, the day before it was working very well and I didn't broke it up. I mean I didn't overheated or dropped water on it, etc. It just started to not work for no apparent reason.

  • Has anyone seen the blue flashing screen on MBP running 10.6.8?  It looks like you are plugging in an external monitor and unplugging it over and over.

So, I have called Apple twice about this issue.  Both times, I was on for almost an hour and could not get an answer.  In fact, the technicians said that they had never seen this issue before.  Here is how it goes.
It has happened MacBook Pro laptops anywhere from 2010 to now.  I have seen it on new ones with Thunderbolt and ones a generation before.  In the environment I work in, we have many, thousands from ranging from all generations.  This specific issue seems to only be affecting 10.6.8.  When the computer boots, it starts to flash blue as if you just plugged in an external montior, except there is no monitor, and it keeps flashing blue about once every second.  I actually have a video of it on my phone that I can send to show you.
Now, like I said, this is happening to multiple laptops, all running 10.6.8.  There isn't a particular action that causes it either.  I have seen laptops that have been running for hours just start doing it as well as a completely cold start up do it right at the login screen.  Upgrading to 10.7.x seems to solve the issue.  But you have to understand, the environment I work in has thousands of computers.  Upgrading many of them to Lion just for this is just not practical.  In some cases, there is software that will not function correctly beyond 10.6.8.
I have scoured though Google searches for hours now looking for a similar issue and a resolution.  The answer I always seem to find is just upgrade.  I can't seem to find a discussion beyond 2011 that talks about it.
    Can someone help me?
    Chad

By the way, I have tried shutting of the display switching in the power settings.  That was basically the only real answer I found anywhere.  It didn't work.

  • Blue Flashing Screen

    Hello-
After i start my iMac G5 it flashes between my desktop and a blue screen. There are no loose connections. How can I fix this? HELP!!
    imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Hi Lily, try starting from your install disc, and then run the Hardware Test (Under Utilities {I think} in the menu bar when you are booted from the install disc) and see if it comes up with anything. The fans will be very loud, but that's normal. Please post back with results,
    Miriam

  • RTorrent+Screen doesn't start properly from systemd

I decided to finally upgrade my system from init.d to systemd.
Pretty much everything went smoothly except my rtorrent+screen startup.
I'm using mostly the ruTorrent webui for controlling rtorrent. I'm using a service that starts rTorrent in a detatched GNU screen.
This is my problem, when I start the service, rtorrent is just king of sleeping and not responding/doesn't create a SCGI socket I use to connect my webui to the rtorrent client.
If I attach the screen the problem goes away and rtorrent resumes normal operation. If I run the exact same commands through a shell, it also works perfectly.
I've also tried to run a basic screen as a service with rtorrent in my ~/.screenrc .
Can anyone help? I've got no idea how to do debug this more than checking so that rtorrent and the service are running.
    This is my service:
    [Unit]
    Description=rTorrent
    [Service]
    Type=forking
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/screen -d -m -S rtorrent /usr/bin/rtorrent
    ExecStop=/usr/bin/killall -w -s 2 rtorrent
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    My systemctl status output:
    rtorrent.service - rTorrent
    Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/rtorrent.service; enabled)
Active: active (running) since Thu 2013-01-24 21:50:10 CET; 54s ago

    1131 /usr/bin/SCREEN -d -m -S rtorrent /usr/bin/rtorrent
    1133 rtorrent

    Jan 24 21:50:10 Laptop systemd[1]: Started rTorrent.

    root 1133 0.0 0.1 201528 5172 pts/0 Ssl+ 21:50 0:00 rtorrent

    This works for me, YMMV:
    /etc/systemd/system/screen.service

    [Service]
    Type=oneshot

  • Blue Flashing Screen When Connecting to Sony Receiver with HDMI Cable

I'm trying to avoid buying an AppleTV by simply using my MBP and the Rowmote Pro app for my iPad. I have a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI cable which works great connected to my 55" Sony HDTV but I would prefer to use my home theatre speakers (vice the HDTVs) by plugging the cable into my Sony Receiver and allowing that to route the video to my TV. The problem is that when I plug the cable into the receiver's #3 HDMI port and then switch the receiver's input to HDMI 3 the MBPs display repeatedly flashes blue as if trying to detect a display. I've tried resetting the PRAM with no success. I would like to avoid the TosLink option, keeping it simple with just the one cable.

You can get a video output from a Mac in the absence of a display. That's called running "headless" or sometimes "server mode." But the Mac will only offer about four choices of headless resolutions, and if there is a way to extend that number, I don't know how to do it.
An item like a receiver may or may not have its own EDID (display driver). Generally speaking the ideal would be that it would just do a pass-through of the EDID of whatever display it (the receiver) is connected to. But for sure inconsistencies arise as inputs get switched around on the receiver or TV, and also as the Mac goes into and comes out of sleep mode. These are all factors that can cause the Mac to end up a lost puppy.
The Detective prevents this from happening by providing a continuous EDID connection from the Mac's perspective. So even though input switching is taking place at the receiver (or TV), the Mac never sees it, and in that case it provides a consistent output.

  • Flash player doesn't start

    Hello,
I recently upgraded my nightly firefox to 36.a.1. And for a few days I've been having troubles to get flash player working.
When I go on this page Flash Player Help and press the check now button, I  can see that I've got flash player 15 installed (I already tried to reinstall it).
But I can't see the cloud animation below. It's like if there was nothing, I can see thought it, I can't right click it. Nothing
Can someone help me please ?

    I'll answer my own question.
It seems like it's a known bug.

So there is no need to create another thread about it.

  • Satellite L670 - screen dosen't "start"

I'm trying to fix the named laptop. The problem is that screen doesn't start (remains blank) when I press the power button. I can hear the fan is turning and if I put a dvd/cd in the drive i can hear it turning. The problem occurs randomly and last for a couple of days then i can start the laptop normally, windows 7 loads normally and the only problem is overheating. However on the next switch-on again the same problems.
I have tried to remove the battery and power cable and pressing the start button for 1-2 minutes trick, but it doesn't seem to work. When it did load i have scanned it for viruses and hardware problems (with various tools but nothing was found). I used slim drivers program to update some drivers but again no result.
I have tried to connect it another monitor but again both screen remained blank.
    What could be the problem?
    Satellite L670 (European model)

    You mentioned the overheating problem.
I guess this might be the main reason why the notebook does not work properly.
The high internal temperature may affect the internal parts like graphic card, RAM, motherboard as well as CPU.
I cannot say for sure what part might be the troublemaker but in my opinion its not display issue.
In case of display problems, you should be able to use the notebook in connection with external monitor but obviously this isnt possible
The RAM replacement is not very tricky it could be worth to test new RAM modules but this is just one possible troublemaker
There is no warranty that after RAM replacement, the notebook would work flawlessly.

How do I fix a initializing problem with my macbook pro? I only get to the blank screen with the apple logo and the "processing something" sign... it just doesn't start the system....
    Please help
    Marcelo

If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.
Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Sometime that won't work and you need to do more

  • Blue screen appears during start up

Hi! My macbook before it bacame a blue screen, shows that the start up disk is almost full but i ignored it...and then suddenly it doesn't start up anymore and shows only blue screen with arrow...pls help! I don't know much about computers! :(

    Boot up in Safe Mode.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, you need to delete data in order to free up disk space, ie., photos, video, etc.
When you are in Safe Mode, control click the MacintoshHD icon on the desktop then click Get Info. You'll see Capacity & Available.  You need at least 15% available disk space.
Then click Restart from the Apple () menu.
