Blue Flashing Screen

Hello-
After i start my iMac G5 it flashes between my desktop and a blue screen. There are no loose connections. How can I fix this? HELP!!
imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Hi Lily, try starting from your install disc, and then run the Hardware Test (Under Utilities {I think} in the menu bar when you are booted from the install disc) and see if it comes up with anything. The fans will be very loud, but that's normal. Please post back with results,
Miriam

  • Has anyone seen the blue flashing screen on MBP running 10.6.8?  It looks like you are plugging in an external monitor and unplugging it over and over.

So, I have called Apple twice about this issue.  Both times, I was on for almost an hour and could not get an answer.  In fact, the technicians said that they had never seen this issue before.  Here is how it goes.
It has happened MacBook Pro laptops anywhere from 2010 to now.  I have seen it on new ones with Thunderbolt and ones a generation before.  In the environment I work in, we have many, thousands from ranging from all generations.  This specific issue seems to only be affecting 10.6.8.  When the computer boots, it starts to flash blue as if you just plugged in an external montior, except there is no monitor, and it keeps flashing blue about once every second.  I actually have a video of it on my phone that I can send to show you.
Now, like I said, this is happening to multiple laptops, all running 10.6.8.  There isn't a particular action that causes it either.  I have seen laptops that have been running for hours just start doing it as well as a completely cold start up do it right at the login screen.  Upgrading to 10.7.x seems to solve the issue.  But you have to understand, the environment I work in has thousands of computers.  Upgrading many of them to Lion just for this is just not practical.  In some cases, there is software that will not function correctly beyond 10.6.8.
I have scoured though Google searches for hours now looking for a similar issue and a resolution.  The answer I always seem to find is just upgrade.  I can't seem to find a discussion beyond 2011 that talks about it.
    Can someone help me?
    Chad

By the way, I have tried shutting of the display switching in the power settings.  That was basically the only real answer I found anywhere.  It didn't work.

  • Blue Flashing Screen When Connecting to Sony Receiver with HDMI Cable

I'm trying to avoid buying an AppleTV by simply using my MBP and the Rowmote Pro app for my iPad. I have a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI cable which works great connected to my 55" Sony HDTV but I would prefer to use my home theatre speakers (vice the HDTVs) by plugging the cable into my Sony Receiver and allowing that to route the video to my TV. The problem is that when I plug the cable into the receiver's #3 HDMI port and then switch the receiver's input to HDMI 3 the MBPs display repeatedly flashes blue as if trying to detect a display. I've tried resetting the PRAM with no success. I would like to avoid the TosLink option, keeping it simple with just the one cable.

You can get a video output from a Mac in the absence of a display. That's called running "headless" or sometimes "server mode." But the Mac will only offer about four choices of headless resolutions, and if there is a way to extend that number, I don't know how to do it.
An item like a receiver may or may not have its own EDID (display driver). Generally speaking the ideal would be that it would just do a pass-through of the EDID of whatever display it (the receiver) is connected to. But for sure inconsistencies arise as inputs get switched around on the receiver or TV, and also as the Mac goes into and comes out of sleep mode. These are all factors that can cause the Mac to end up a lost puppy.
The Detective prevents this from happening by providing a continuous EDID connection from the Mac's perspective. So even though input switching is taking place at the receiver (or TV), the Mac never sees it, and in that case it provides a consistent output.

  • Blue flashing screen - doesn't start up

I just had new RAM replaced on my iMac due to faulty RAM under waranty, and everything seemed to be working fine. I downloaded some updates today and restarted the computer. Now on start up the computer loads to an alternating blue screen and won't load.
When I restared the computer, I had just completed a back up, and left the external hard drive attached. Could this have created a problem?
I have tried to do the basic troubleshooting start ups but have had no luck. Do I need to do a reinstall off disc? If I do, do I loose everything that's on the hard drive?
Any suggestions on what could be the problem?

    Hello s:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I would take the computer back to whoever installed the RAM (under warranty). From what you posted, nothing you did should have caused a problem.
When I restared the computer, I had just completed a back up, and left the external hard drive attached. Could this have created a problem?
I seriously doubt it. My external drives are always connected.
Before you do anything else, I really do think that whoever replaced the RAM should fix the problem for you. There could, of course, be something else, but that is a good place to start.

  • My G4 Apple PowerBook will not boot further than pale blue/grey screen displaying "flashing file symbol / flashing ?"

My G4 Apple PowerBook will not boot further than pale blue/grey screen displaying "flashing file symbol / flashing ?"
Last previous action:  Used Firewire cable and "Target Mode" to copy files from G4 eMac to the PowerBook.
I worked from the eMac to the PowerBook, making the PowerBook the "Target".      Files seemed to transfer OK.     Won't boot from InstallDisc.  Holding down T on startup results in Target mode screen.   I have a G4 iMac and a G4 eMac.    Can I use either of these with Firewire cable to boot-up my PowerBook ?
I'm new to using this Communities & Forums Help.   Can someone please help me to get going again ! !     Thanks for your time.  Graflood

    Hello,
It sounds to me like the PowerBook is stuck in target disk mode.
It's expecting the iMac/eMac to be there when booting. Seeming it's not attached, it will show a flashing folder.
If your PowerBook internal drive is bootable, then simply hold down the option key when booting and select it's internal hard drive. That should boot your PowerBook into Mac OS X.

  • Flashing screen OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

I am sad to say the audio stutter issue that seemed to have been solved a few updates ago on my 2011 imac27' i7 has now been replaced by a new issue, a flashing screen..goes red or pink or orange then lines appear and then a white screen. Have to reboot. It did it a couple of times today since the (12d78). initially i thought id done a mouse move click to quickly and froze the machine (rare) but I noticed when trying to play 'quake live' on safari (a flash plug in type browser game) that almost immediately the screen would break up. Ive never seen this before and can only assume the update is the reason. Same as the audio stutter was. Something to do with the graphic card and 0sx? no idea. I have the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB.
Im not aware of any trauma to the computer or anything other than the update. I have updated 10.8.3 quite a few times since i was given the preview beta updates.
    Any ideas?

Hi, so, this is fierce. I cant work or play. My imac 2011 27i7 is destroyed the only thing that has happened i know of is i updated appleseed most recent software update. The last or or so updates worked fine the machine was stable and working brilliantly since the audio stutter was fixed.
Ive not installed anything recently either that may have added some new conflict. Yesterday using my fresh internet recovery of lion(imac came with lion) the machine stayed on long enough to get some important files out.
That was lucky because since that short time of semi function ive not been able to get as far as log in on start up before i am looking at a grey screen no apple logo or a blue screen with vertical lines. Or a black screen occaisionally with an white line across the top. This on any start up option . Sometimes i have got as far as seeing the hardisk start up options but it crashes if i try any of the options.
Today i got an email from appleseed mac saying thanks for participating there will be no more updates. Great!! Also Yesterday i was told that if i send my machine in for repair under my applecare and the fault is not hardware inside the mac i will be charged. So with problem looking software related i've a bad dilemma here. Days going by i cant work.
Also i was told my entire hardrive may need to be wiped. Thats all my apps  and so on.
Im kicking myself for installing that last update.

  • Blue flashing pixel on my M40-107

Next problem. Just got my Satellite back and they have replaced the motherboard. However the problem I had from day one isn't gone.
Everytime the laptop feels like it there is a blue flashing pixel somewhere in the middle of the screen. If you move the screen a bit from front to back and the other way the pixel is gone or it wil come back. If you can see it will be blue.
Is this really a dead pixel? But why does it work sometimes? Is it just a faulty cable?
:( I'm getting really depressed of this laptop
    [Edited by: admin]

    Hello
I can really understand that you are concerned about that. I assume that this pixel is really a dead one. I have also found an article about that. If you want you can check it under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=Display +-+Graphics&FID=TRO000000265d .
It is possible that this pixel changes depending on background color.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 5 flashing screen

iPhone 5 flashing screen between Apple logo and other colours.  Any advice to attempt to save the phone?
Update did not work, will try restore next but hoping to save stuff as iCloud hasn't updated for awhile.

    Howdy jr02yc,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides troubleshooting suggestions steps that can help you resolve the issue with your iPhone 5 not starting up past the Apple logo.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
    Take care,
    -Jason

  • Quick blue flash during startup

My macbook pro is making a quick blue flash during startup when it's at the apple logo. Not blue as in blue screen but a transparent type of blue I would say and it's just for a moment. Is that a symptom of something? It started a couple of months ago. I have no other problems with my macbook pro. I might add that this is not a real problem for me as a user, but I am a bit concerned about it, that's all. (I can look away if I want to and feel better about it)

Hardware tests can only detect hardware problems that they are designed to detect. I think you may have a hardware problem that is not able to be detected by Tech Tool Deluxe. For example, a bad connection somewhere may not be detected.
Here is a test that is supposed to be better at detecting RAM problems:
    http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/
Check to see that your RAM is well seated and that all of it is recognized. Faulty RAM or poorly seated RAM can be a factor in kernel panics, and often RAM problems are not detected by hardware tests.
Also, check the S.M.A.R.T. status of your drive with Disk Utility.
Your difficulty doing a clean install of the OS does point to a hardware issue of some kind.
Unfortunately, it's probably time to call Apple for a diagnosis and repair under warranty. If you have a hardware problem, which I think you do, there is really no way to fix it other than to turn it over to Apple or an AASP for a warranty repair.
    Good luck!

  • My HP Pavillion a6620f is stuck on the Blue HP screen, F keys won't work

My HP Pavilion a6620f is stuck on the blue HP screen. None of the suggested F keys will work. If I press Esc or F10, I get a message stating that it's starting up whatever corresponds to those keys, but nothing ever happens (left it for five hours while ran errands and it never changed.)
Previous to getting the blue screen, I had put the computer in sleep mode by choosing sleep through the start menu. When I came back to the computer the next morning, I'd forgotten that I'd put it in sleep, so I pressed the power button to turn it on; when it came on, it stayed on the blue HP screen. Since then, I've looked at the HP boards, I've taken off the side, vacuumed (lightly) out the dust, unplugged and plugged in the power cable from the hard drive and the mother board, then did the same with the data cable. I plugged everything back in and I'm still getting the blue screen. I don't have a recovery CD, so I don't know what else to do. Can someone help?

    Hey McLundin,
I'm sorry you're running into this issue with the blue screen. Is this screen one of the infamous blue screens of death?
    Examples of BSODs
Do you get any sort of error message on the screen? Look for the word STOP and the code after that. If you need to, you can take a picture of it and post the picture in your reply.
I would suggest trying a hard reset as the next quickest and less invasive step. This can sometimes fix strange issues because it drains all of the electricity out of the unit. Here are the steps for a Hard Reset.
If you've got another laptop you can put the hard drive in, you can take the hard drive from the laptop in question and put it in a second laptop to see if it boots. Obviously, if you get the same screen it's a hard drive issue. My bet though, is that it will work, since the F keys on the affected laptop are not even working. (You're pressing those keys immediately on power on right?) Putting the hard drive into the second computer will allow you to back up files, if necessary, to a flash drive or external hard drive.
I hope this information helps. Let me know what the results are, if you get a chance please

  • After installing itunes and restarting computer, blue error screen comes up

After I installed itunes 9 and restarting my computer a blue error screen came up. I had to restart my computer in safe mode and restore. Now itunes will not work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling various itunes, ipod, apple...etc programs and i get the blue error message again. HELP!

What version of iTunes is installed in the Apple default location ..... /Applications/iTunes ???
Drag the iTunes icon in the Dock to the Desktop and release; it will be deleted with a poof! Don't worry it's only an alias.
In your Home Page ~/Library/Preferences/ ......... drag to the Trash and delete:
    com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
(don't worry ... new ones will be created upon relaunch of iTunes .... +see below+)
    Using: /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions
    RESTART the computer
Within the Applicatons folder: double-click the iTunes icon ... if the launch is successful, drag a copy of the iTunes icon to the Dock ... release ... you will now have a current alias in the Dock.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Can we show flash screen over the loaded HTML5 page in StageWebView for IOS?

    Hi Guys,
I want to show flash screen(let say abc.mxml) over loaded HTML5 page in StageWebView. But unable to show it. Even I want to interact with both pages ( flash and HTML5) bidirectionally.
Can anyone help me out of this StageWebView issue?
    Thanks,
    Mamta

Okay. I guess it's not possible?
Seems like the closest way to get there would be the UIwebview Native Extension. But the examples on the website are pretty vague as to it's use. (at least for a non-C coder like myself)
Anybody use that particular ANE? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Again, just need to set a simple property here...

  • HELP! CD stuck in drive. Try to restart brings up blue loading screen. Can't get the disc out and we've tried everything!

Imac Intel totally stuck with this CD in the drive,
Seriously. Every forum tells us to restart - but we can't because SOMEHOW this burned music CD (that we've had forever) has caused it to freeze on a never-ending blue loading screen.
Help please. Nothing's working. Only every now and then will the drive make some sounds to eject and then fails.
    What has happened??

    Greetings Ruth,
It sounds like the disk has become stuck in the drive and when it attempts to eject it becomes stuck on the inside of the drive housing or the optical drive itself has failed in some fashion.
Follow all the steps under "The drive doesn't eject discs or discs eject slowly".
If the steps don't help then follow the last step which is to take the system in for service / evaluation.
    Best of luck to you.
