Blue flower prints purple from PS CS3

Hi. This is driving me crazy!!! I am using WinXP/Home, Adobe RGB 1998 Color profile for both the image and Photoshop CS3. I print on Epson R2400, have freshly and properly installed inks and nozzles are not clogged. I have an image of a blue flower, and I do mean blue, not purple and not lavender. It is definitely blue on the monitor. It is blue in Bridge. It is blue in its jpg format and in its .psd format. When I print using the printer with Photoshop as color manager and print management off, the result is a purple flower. All the other colors in the image seem to be fine---green is green, yellowish is yellowish. When I print using printer color management(settings all properly done), NOT Photoshop's, I end up with a blue flower! Anyone with any ideas at all why this happens? I sure would appreciate knowing! I can do the workaround by letting the printer manage color, but seems to me that Photoshop really ought to be doing this. I have not noted problems with any other colors...only blue!

The magenta shift is NOT a matter of CIELab, it's IMO
an optical illusion.
Please look here
http://www.fho-emden.de/~hoffmann/hlscone03052001.pdf
on page 2, Outside top view of the HLS cone:
At 255° = 270°-15° we have at the border fully
saturated blue and in the middle white. The inter-
polation shows halfways not medium saturated blue
but medium saturated blue with a magenta tint.
One can test this further by gradients in PhS:
Foreground
R'G'B'=c1/c1/255 delivers Lab=L1/a1/b1
Now use the same lightness L1 but no saturation:
Background
Lab=L1/0/0 delivers R'G'B'=c2/c2/c2
Depending on c1 (e.g. 0 or 70), one can see a
magenta tint approximately in the middle.
A first test (unequal lightness) can be done by
Foreground
R'G'B'=0/0/255
Background
R'G'B'=255/255/255
By the way: all interpolations by gamma encoded
RGB-numbers (therefore written R'G'B'). The effect
would be essentially the same for linear RGB, because
I'm adding equal values R'=G' to full B'.
The solution is not the replacement of Lab (which is
not involved in the test above), but the application
of a correction in order to compensate the optical
illusion.

  • Is there any way to print directly from InDesign CS3 to Mavericks 10.9.4?

Are there any fixes or workarounds that allow me to print directly from InDesign CS3 to Mavericks 10.9.4. Everything I try now causes InDesign to freeze if I attempt to print. The only way is to export the file as a PDF. Thank you.

You shouldn’t be having a problem like that. I’m going to move this to the InDesign forum but it would help if you posted more details on the issues you’re having.
Another thing to try is exporting to INX from CS3 and opening the INX in CS5.5

  • Help!!!  My Blues are Printing Purple

I am using windows 8.1 printing from Lightroom.  I calibrated my monitor with an X-rite Color Munki Photo.  At first I thought it was Prophoto vs Adobe RGB, but my latest print shows that is not the problem.
I printed from Lightroom with Lightroom managing color (I checked for out of gaumit color, and manually brought colors back into gaumit).  My Blue sky was Purple.
I printed from Lightroom with printer managing color.  My Blue sky again was Purple
I printed from Windows Photo Viewer (standard windows viewer) with printer managing color.  My Blue sky was Blue, and matched my monitor pretty well.
Any help would be appreciated.  I want to use all the features of Lightroom.
Here is a jpg of the file I'm trying to print.

I have an epson 3880 with Windows 8.1 with epson glossy photo paper.  I downloaded the icc profile from epson, and made sure the printer was not managing color.  I downloaded the latest drivers from epson.  I softproof, and bring the out of gamut colors in gamut, and make a proof copy.  For landscape, I use perceptual rendering intent.

  • Blue color printing purple

I am having a problem with my iMac that correctly displays blue text, but is printing it as purple.  I have seen several threads about this topic online, but no real answers.
Ble photo images print correctly, but not blue text.  The same blue text on my Mac Air prints correctly using the same printer.
    Any suggestions

I have tried all three! the one I have on now - will print up to A3 put not borderless and the colour is really faded!! Its really annoying me now. I would really like to solve the problem! having just paid all this money for cs3 and Im not really that impressed with it now!!!

  • Ligatures drop out when printing from ID CS3 to a PS3 printer

Just got a new Dell 5110cn and this issue is driving me nuts.
InDesign CS3, Vista 64-bit. Am using the PS3 driver for the 5110cn, not the PCL driver.
I have disabled device font substitution in the driver. I have gone into the font substitution table and set everything to "Don't Substitute."
When I print directly from ID CS3, the "fi" ligatures in words like "certificate" or "verification" drop out.
The font in question is "Times".
If I Export the document to PDF, the ligatures view fine and print fine from the PDF.
Illustrator-created EPS files with the word "certificate" that are then dropped into ID CS3 print fine when printed direct.
I can print MS Word documents that have the word "certificate" in Times directly to the printer and those print fine (but for all I know, Word isn't using the same ligature method).
While this is a new printer, the behavior apears to be isolated to InDesign (printing direct from Adobe Illustrator is fine as well).
    What gives???

    Gah!
Why the hell is that disabled by default???
The other way I fixed it was to change from "Times" to "Times New Roman" and that worked (even without the Download PPD Fonts option checked).
    Thanks!

  • Printing with Epson/PS CS3- missing color sync options

When I try to print images from PS CS3 with my Epson Stylus Photo 2100, my print-box doesn't give me option "Color sync" anymore. I used to be able to choose whether to use Color sync or No Color management. I have downloaded all the latest drivers I have found from epson, but no help.

    What OS version, driver version?
CS3 was one strange beast when it came to printing. Seems it had  elements of both Apple printing paths and depending on what OS version and driver version you are using you will get different results.  I have no trust what so ever printing from CS3.
It does seem on a box running 10.6.3 and CS3 here that the 8.19 driver for the 9600 is working correctly like a application using Apple's new print path when PS Manages Color is selected. In the driver under Color Matching, ColorSync is correctly grayed out and under Print Settings, Color Settings is defaulted (grayed out) to Off (No Color Adjustment. This is the correct behavior.
Now if you're trying to use Printer Manages Color, in the driver under Color Matching, Epson Color Controls is incorrectly grayed out  and there is no way to choose ColorSync. If this is what you are talking about you should try PS Manages Color. This happens in CS3 and CS4. In CS5 when choosing Printer Manages Color, in the driver under Color Matching, nothing is grayed out  and and you can choose ColorSync. Just maybe Adobe and Epson have finally caught up with Apple's new printing path, but then again this could still be a moving target.

  • Print Problems with InDesign CS3

    Hi all,
Having problems printing jobs from InD CS3 on OX 10.5.5 (many machines) in our studio. We are printing to a Epson Stylus Photo R2400 powered by a PowerRIP X version 8. InDesign is 5.0.3
When we print more then one page from a document i.e. pages 1-4 as spreads, it prints them in reverse order and some of the spreads mirrored. Have also tried making PDFs and printing them, but the PDF just will not start printing. Prints fine if we print one page at a time.
Have spoke to the makes of PowerRIP X and they say Adobe know of the problem which is when InDesign makes the print files, has anybody had this problem on other prints/rips.
I would be very great full for any help/feedback.
    many thanks
    Simon

I installed PowerRIP X a year or so ago for a customer, but that was on PPC machines running Tiger. We did not have the sort of problems you're describing. It's possible that they are specific to either Leopard or Intel Macs.
Are all your machines Intel-based, PPC based, or both? Do you have any machines running Tiger on which to test?

  • Printing CMYK using InDesign CS3

I am currently using an Epson SX200 to print CMYK from Adobe CS3 InDesign but it comes out in RGB.
The trouble is when I select the 'Output' folder I cannot choose the Composite CMYK selector as it is 'greyed out'! Only the RGB is available.
To test this I attempted to print a 100% Cyan box but when it printed it had Magenta in it.
Please, how can I get my InDesign to print in CMYK.
I have gone through many Preferences but all the CMYK options appear to be 'greyed out'!
    Thanks,

    merton69 wrote:
…I presumed that because my Epson is a CYMK printer…
No, it is NOT.  Your printer is not a "CMYK printer" but an RGB printer that happens to use a combination of various cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink cartridges to print your RGB images.
The printer expects to receive RGB images, and anytime anyone sends it a CMYK image, the printer driver converts it to RGB of the fly.  Always.
    merton69 wrote:
…With most of my printing the colour never seems to match what is intended?…
No, not if you're sending it CMY images.  Your output will NEVER match your images that way.

  • Blue prints purple with Canon ICC profiles

    Hi,
I am printing a "printer evaluation image" (http://www.outbackprint.com/printinginsights/pi049/essay.html) with my Canon Pro 9000 (Mk I). When selecting System Managed on the ColorSync option in the print dialog everything prints perfect. (Of course I have selected the correct paper under media in the driver)
When selecting the paper ICC profile in the ColorSync option blue turns into purple in the printer dialog image, same things goes for the print (at least it matches...). All other colors, skin tones etc looks perfect.
So it seems to me like everything is ok as long as the printer handles the color management, but when Aperture 2 handles it something goes wrong.
I have spent several hours googling the problem, as well as double checking all setting, driver version etc. I have tried different papers and the problem is consistent. Both OSX and Aperture version is up to date.
Anyone with similar problem? Is it an Aperture problem or is it the Canon ICC profiles?
    Thomas

    Hi,
Here is an update for those who are interested:
I believe I have been able to isolate the problem to Aperture. This is what I did:
Step 1). Used Keynote to make a 100% Blue square and exported that to a 16-bit TIFF.
Step 2). Imported the TIFF into Aperture, used the DigitalColor Meter utility to ensure it was 100% Blue. Print: Selected the Canon Pro9000 PR1 Profile, In the print settings selected Photo Paper Pro II and set quality to high. Preview is purple AND print is purple.
Step 3). Then imported the TIFF into Pixelmator, again with DigitalColor Meter utility ensured that it was still 100% Blue. Print: Under Color matching menu selected Color Sync and Canon Pro PR1 Profile, under Quality and Media menu selected Photo Paper Pro II and set quality to high. Preview is Blue AND print is Blue!!
To me this seems to indicate the following:
1). The Canon driver is good - Works perfectly with Pixelmator
2). The Canon Pro9000 PR1 profile is fine - works perfectly with Pixelmator
3). The Printer is fine - again... Pixelmator
4). Even though my system is not color calibrated, it is quite good - Preview match print with Pixelmator.
That leaves Aperture and how it handles ICC profiles with the Canon Pro9000 driver...
Anybody else able to confirm this?
    Thomas

  • Print quality from CS3 to a non-PS b/w printer

I open an image in Photoshop CS3 and do a file / print to my HP laserjet 1300 black an white printer. The image prints out with a halftone pattern with little dots visible all over the place.
If I place the same image without any changes into Illustrator and do a file / print form there, the image comes out looking like a black and white photograph with none of the dots / halftone pattern of the photoshop image.
I want it to look like a photograph. I do not want the halftone / dots.
Can someone help me with what is happening here? Maybe just some photoshop setting that I need in order to print nice looking images from Photoshop CS3 to this printer rather than having to get Illustrator involved?

Sounds more like the printer driver is the root of your problem.
The meaningful question here is:  Does HP have a current driver for the LaserJet 5 and your operating system?
And keep in mind that you can download and try Photoshop CS5 for 30 days free.

  • Printer dialogue box hangs when printing from Illustrator cs3

OK... I'm not sure if this is Illustrator related or mac related, but it only happens from Illustrator. In our office we have an iMac (white, flat) running Tiger (OSX 10.4.11). Whenever we try to print from Illustrator CS3 the preint goes through to the printer immediately and prints, but the actual Illustrator spooling bar/printer dialogue box remains. The only way is to wait for about half an hour for the bar to finish or force quit the application and restart (even though it does not show as "not responding" in the Force Quit window.
Now I've tried reinstalling Illustrator. I've run disk warrior. Tried the fsck command on startup. our technical outsources tell us it might be a memory problem, but I'm not tsure as this only happens in Illustrator and no other programs.... any ideas?

I can vouch for the dock hiding solution solving the problem. It worked on three Intel Macs we were having problems with. Here are some links to articles about it:

Getting PS error when trying to print to new Lexmark c543dn from Photoshop (CS3).  Prints endless pages with multiple symbols/characters.  Otherwise prints fine from any other programs.  Worked fine with 9 year old Epson inkjet.  Any solutions? Lexmark doesn't have any updated drivers that address this.

Amy, your question would get a better response from the Photoshop general Forum. Post there if you have NOT already done so…
