Blue patterned dots in my .jpgs on Cinema Display
All of a sudden I have blue dots in the darks in my .jpgs I view on my 10 year old Cinema Display. The Display is looped thru my MBP as a second monitor. It is like it's warning of the blacks being too dark??? Only shows in the blacks not highlights.
Supposedly normal for this to happen when Macbook Pro hooked up to a Cinema Display.

Blue screen appears out of sleep on Cinema Display
I find when I wake my Macbook Pro up from sleep while attached to my 23" Cinema Display I get a blue screen for anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds and then my screen. It doesn't cause problems but its just annoying. When just using the Macbook Pro its screen appears immediately.
Has anyone else noticed this.Supposedly normal for this to happen when Macbook Pro hooked up to a Cinema Display.

Crash Blue Screen User Login Screen: MacBook Pro 13" + 27" Cinema Display
I'm running 10.6.8 (10K549) on a using a 13" MacBookPro5,5 with 8GB plugged into a 27" Apple Cinema Display and a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with all the up to date software. Not sure if important, but the apps I primarily use are CS 5.5 Standard Suite, Fusion 3 and Google Chrome. I've long ago removed all the weird utilitites like InsomniaX, TidyUp and OnyX. Only External plugged in is a 1.5TB USB Free Agent Portable Hard Drive. For the last month or so I've been experiencing two problems:(1) The screen periodically goes blue and then after about 2 minutes the login screen comes up asking me to log in with my password. And (2) I've had periodic moments when I try to move the windows and they move but once moved, redraw themselves very slowly, like I'm having an acid trip. I've googled these problems and can't see where the solutions would apply to me. I went into console and retrieved the most recent Panic crash report and pasted it below. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. In fact, just as I'm posting this I'm having the weird screen redraw. I'm also posting it on facebook if you look for "James Weird Macbook Screen Redraw" you should find it in about 20 minutes. Thanks.

Mid 2009 13" MacBook pro mini-dp to Cinema Display screen jumps from blue to desktop
I'm using a kanex brand iAdapt mini-dp to dvi adapter to connect my macbook pro to my 23" cinema display from early 2007, but it seems like the macbook is having trouble recognizing that the display is connected. The screen will go blue for a second, then show the desktop, then go back to blue. it repeats like this for as long as the adapter is plugged in.
I've gotten the screen to connect properly twice, but as soon as I unplug my laptop and try to plug it back in another day, I run into the same issue as before. I've seen other discussions about screen flickering, but this isn't really a flicker. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, though it seems likely that this has happened before.
Any solutions? Thanks!Hi thedankness,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I have a thin blue line running down my 24" Cinema display, how can I remove it? or is it a fault.
It is a fault and the only way to fix it is to have the screen replaced.

Bright blue spots/dots on zen microphoto front scr
Hi, I just bought my zen micro photo 3 days ago at best buy. I turned on the player and noticed two bright blue spots/dots on the front panel as the creative logo appeared. These spots are really tiny (maybe abt pixel), but they're highly visible under dark background (i.e. the creative start logo and dark photos). And those spots are on the center of the screen! Other than that screen problem, everything works fine and I am very satisfied with my zmp purchase. So, my question is whether those blue spots are nornal? does anyone experience the same problem? I just find it annoying to see those blue spots whenever I turn on my zmp, especially that my zmp is brand new out of the box. Should I just exchange it's
Hi,
Sounds like a dead pixel. You mention its in the centre so it's fairly prominent so it's probably for the best to replace it. If you do decide replace this ensure you do so quickly. Stores have a seven day period for returns and after this they can sometimes be difficult.

Cinema Display & blue-ray player
Hello,
is it possible to connect a Cinema Display 27' (2010) with a blue-ray player? If yes, what kind of adapter is needed?
Thanks.There is this

but it will work only at 720p (1280 x 720).
Ask them about HDCP before buying. -
27" LED Cinema Display, blue looks
Hello,
I am using a 2 day old 27" LED display as my late 2008 MBP 15" primary display. And it is working great, however items/text/etc... that I am used to seeing blue look purple. Web sites like Google that control the color of the fonts use blue for links and purple for read links look the same. Blue menu bars also lean to purple. I've used a few other computers around the house and its clear blue should be blue, but is not. Its mostly worse with bold or large blue fonts.
So, do I have a defective monitor? Or is this user tuneable. I purchased this for more screen real-estate. I'm not a graphics guy. I know nothing about color and how to fix.
Things I've tried:
1. Turn off ambient sensor.
2. Used from 7AM to 1PM in all lighting conditions.
3. Adjusted the brightness.
4. Tried to mess with color calibration. Got totally lost there.
5. Tried to convince myself that purple isn't so bad.
6. Gave up on #5 and started changing apps to use light blue.
7. Called Apple. They suggested #5.
Thanks.
P.S. I also have the USB audio issues others have. But power cycling the display works until Apple can fix.
P.P.S. Apple forgot to add an audio jack in the display.Without a picture it is hard to tell how much color shift you are dealing with. However, I can tell you that out of the box the display is color shifted towards the blue, it is very bright, The whites are blistering, and it needs to be calibrated for optimum viewing. I used a Spyder 3 Express ($85 at Amazon) to calibrate it. Calibration is easy to do and automatic once the sensor is in place. The colors after calibration are much more neutral. This review strongly supports the case for calibrating it: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3946/apple-27inch-led-cinema-display-review

Hello everyone, hoping for some help with my new Apple Cinema Display 20"
Hi everyone, I bought an Apple Cinema Display 20 inch LCD monitor, just about 3 weeks ago. I have two issues I am hoping to get some help with.
1) I am using the screen on a PC with Windows XP, and I was very disappointed at the lack of PC support. I have no on screen display (OSD), so I can't see what percentage I have my brightness set to, and I can't alter the colour or contrast of the display, etc. Luckily it defaulted to very good settings, but I would really like to be able to use the (fan made?) program called "WinACD". If I would be best asking somewhere else, please direct me there. If not, my problem is that I installed it added the "Controls" tab, but it just says, Virtual Control Panel "None Present". I have tried googling for an answer, and I have seen many suggestions, but none of them worked. I installed the WinACD driver without my USB lead plugged in, and someone said that was important. So I have tried uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling it again with the USB plugged in, and a device plugged in to my monitor to be sure. It didn't seem to help. I have actually done this process a few times, just to be sure. So I would really like to get that working if possible.
2) I am disappointed at the uniformity of the colour on the display. I have seen other people mention this (again, after a google search), and that someone seemed to think it is just an issue we have to deal with, with this generation of LCD monitors. Before I bought this screen, I had an NEC (20wgx2), and it had a very similar issue. Most of the time, you cannot see any problem at all, but if you display an entire screen with a dark (none prime) colour, like a dark blue green colour, you can see areas where it is slightly darker than others. It was more defined on the NEC screen, and that is why I returned it. I now bought this Apple Cinema Display, because it was the only good alternative to the NEC. (It has an 8bit S-IPS / AS-IPS panel, which was important to me). But the problem exists in this screen too. It isn't as bad thankfully, but it still exists... I have actually tried a third monitor just to be sure, and the problem existed very slightly in that one, so I think I am probably quite sensitive in that I can detect it.
It is most noticable to me, because I do everything on this PC. I work, I watch films, and I play games. 99% of the time, I cannot see this problem. But in some games (especially one)... the problem is quite noticeable. When you pan the view around, my eyes are drawn to the slight areas on my screen which are darker, and it ruins my enjoyment. To confirm it wasn't just the game, like I said, I can use a program to make the entire screen display one solid colour, and if you pick the right type of colour (anything that isn't a bright primary colour), I can see the problem - albeit fairly faintly.
I am pretty positive that it is not my graphics card or any other component of my PC, by the way, because everything is brand new and working perfectly, and the graphics card specifically, I have upgraded and yet the problem remains - even on the new card. Also, the areas that are darker, are different on this screen than on the other screens I have used.
So basically, I would like to register my disappointment at the lack of perfect uniformity on a screen which cost me £400 (over double what most 20 inch LCD screens cost), and I would like to know if anybody could possibly suggest a way to fix it?
It is upsetting, becuase although this problem exists on other screens too, this is, as far as I know, the most expensive 20" LCD monitor available today, and uses the best technology available too.
p.s. If anyone would like to use the program that lets you set your entire PC screen a specific colour, it is called "Dead Pixel Buddy", and it is a free piece of software, made by somebody to check for dead pixels. But I found it useful for other things too, including looking at how uniform the colour of the screen is. That's not to say I was specifically looking for this problem by the way... the problem cought my eye.
Thanks in advance!
Message was edited by: teleloveI've been talking about this on another forum too, and I made some pictures in photoshop to describe the problem. Here is what I posted on the other forum:
Yes, "brightness uniformity" definitely seems to be the best description of my issue.
Basically it just seems like there are very faint lines down the screen, that are slightly darker than the other areas on the screen. They aren't defined lines, and they aren't in a pattern. It's just slight areas that are darker, and the areas seem like narrow bands/lines. Usually you can't see it, but in some cases, it is quite noticeable. It is mainly when I'm playing a game. The slightly darker areas are not visible, and then when the image moves (because I am turning in a car, or turning a plane, or turning in a shooter etc.) the image moves, but these slightly darker areas stay still, and that makes them really stand out.
As for how it looks, I tried to make an example in photoshop:
Original Image:
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/3045/td1ja9.jpg
Then imagine turning the car around a bend, and then it looks like this:
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/959/td2hq7.jpg
It's those lines in the clouds. If you can tab between the two images, you can see the difference easily. Imagine seeing those lines appear, every single time you move in a game. (I haven't tested this in movies yet, but I am assuming it's the same).
It isn't very clear on a static image. But when the image moves, the darker areas stay in the same place and it draws your eyes towards them. It isn't terrible, but it is annoying, especially consider how much this screen cost.

Cinema display does not always wake with MacBookPro Retina
I have a MBP Retina display and often use Apple 23" Cinema Display, with the rMBP closed, not running both displays. Sometimes the display is slow to come on, but will with a bit of prompting through hitting the esc key (USB keyboard) or my blue tooth Apple trackpad. Occasionally, nothing works. I open the rMBP and it wakes up immediately, close it, try the prompts with the display and nothing. Then I have to restart the rMBP.
I do not have an issue of the rMBP not waking as many others have posted. However, mine is sometimes slow to respond when it appears to be awake.
I did not have any issues with the cinema display with my old MBP (early'08). The display worked well and always came right on.
I am running ML 10.8.2.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
LarryI have not tried this but would this be on any value, as there is quoted from the site:
"For example, if you wake a laptop up from sleep sometimes, and your network has changed, lookupd is the little ******* that usually makes your laptop just not wake up."

Macbook crash on sleep after disconnection from cinema display
Hello,
I bought a black macbook core 2 duo a few months back as a replacement for a 1.5 GHz 12" powerbook G4, and I'm beginning to wonder if I made a terrible mistake as the Macbook frequently crashes on sleep which has caused a major disruption to the way I use my computer.
My work pattern involves pulling the computer out of its bag and opening it for between a few minutes and a couple of hours, before putting it back to sleep by closing it and shoving it back in its bag again, usually in a hurry, and usually several times each day. If I'm working at my desk, I pull it out of its bag, plug a keyboard, mouse and cinema display into it before waking it in lid-closed mode via the keyboard or mouse. I later sleep it via the power key, before immediately disconnecting the cables and putting it back in its bag.
The powerbook used to cope with this admirably, sometimes for two months at a stretch between restarts, and always with many applications and windows open. I had learned to expect that when I open the lid of my computer everything is there just as I left it, and more importantly that I didn't need to worry about saving everything before closing the lid.
The Macbook frequently crashes on sleep (regardless of whether I close the lid, use the key or menu or leave it until it sleeps itself), and have I narrowed it down to something that usually happens on one of the first few sleeps after I disconnect the cinema display. The macbook's backlight goes out on sleep but the display does not switch off (it can be seen, frozen as it was, if a light is shone on the display) nor the hard disk spin down, and the only response of any sort I can get is I can switch the white LED on and off by opening and closing the lid. This behaviour has always been the same regardless of whether safe sleep is enabled or not, although I have disabled safe sleep as I do not have the time or inclination to sit around waiting for 15 seconds for the disk to stop spinning each time I close the lid.
My question is, is there something wrong with my computer or is this normal for Macbooks where an external display is used? And if it is normal for macbooks is it something that is likely to resolve itself with future MacOs or firmware updates, or is it more fundamental than that?Hello again,
It is hard to suggest something to do in this case, since intermittent issues are really difficult to diagnose. If I were you, I might try doing an Archive and Install from the install dvd that came with your macbook, as well as verifying the drive using Disk Utility on the install dvd. These are just suggestions and I don't know if they will change anything, but at least Apple may get more info out of knowing these were done to try and resolve the issue. If Archiving and Installing doesn't fix the problem (an OS software problem) and disk utility doesn't report any problems, it most likely warrants a trip to Apple. You definitely shouldn't have to put up with worrying about whether your computer will work or not every time you close the lid. -
HT4614 how do I connect a mac cinema display to a mac mini
Is it possible to connect both an Apple 30" HD cinema display and an Apple 23" cinema display to a Mac Mini and use both as dual monitors?
Yes with the current Mac Mini. Connect the 23" to the Mac Mini's HDMI port with the HDMI to DVI adapter that came with the Mac Mini.
If the 23" display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
<http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will also need a DVI to ADC adapter.

Connect the 30" display to the Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DUAL-LINK DVI adapter.

What Cable Do I Need To Connect My MacBook With a Cinema Display?
Hi,
I have got a 23" old HD Cinema Display. It is the one with the transparent plastic around the outside. I have a 13" MacBook, Oct 2008 then discontinued, the one that looks like a MacBook Pro, and I would like to connect the laptop to the display. Which cable would I need to connect the two?
The cable coming off the cinema display has three lines on ten metal dots on the right, and a line, with two dots above and below it, on the left. On the Macbook I have got a mini dvi port.
Thanks,The first problem is that the 23 inch display with oval ADC connector has no power supply. You will need something like the Apple DVI-to-ADC converter, which contains the power supply to generate the 28 Volt power at up to 4 Amps needed to run the display. This will convert your display to a DVI display with a power supply "brick" in the cable. These converter/power units are readily available on the used market and have an AC power cord.
If your MacBook is an Aluminum body, it has a Mini DisplayPort. [Older models had a Mini DVI, where the center partition was folded into a C-shape.] Mini DisplayPort can be forced into "Single-Link DVD compatibility mode" with an inexpensive adapter. This solution works for DVI displays up through 1920 wide, beyond which you need the much more expensive Dual-Link converter. {If your had the Mini DVI, that is also a simple adapter.] -
How to connect Macbook to 23" Cinema Display
I just bought a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter to connect my Macbook to my Cinema Display 23", but I am realizing this adapter is probably not what I need as the Cinema HD Display has a different, larger connector that doesn't match the other end of my adaptor. I was wondering if someone could help me understand which cables to buy.
Thank you!Your 23" Cinema has a DVI-connector, so the adapter you're looking for is a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter.
The cable form your Cinema should look like this: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/graphics/infolib/homelib/dvi_connector600.jpg

Mini DisplayPort adapter for 23" Apple HD Cinema Display?
hello all,
I'm sure this has been asked and answered here, but I can't find it! (grrr...)
I've got an 23" Apple HD Cinema display and a new iMac. The iMac has a "mini DisplayPort". Now, the Cinema Display has a 3 x 10-pin (not 3 x 8) DVI connector. The WIKI thing about DVI calls it a "DVI M1-DA (Dual link + USB)".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigitalVisualInterface
For the life of me, I can't find an Apple (or other) adapter with the 10-pin connector to attach to the iMac?
many thanks,
b myersIf it's the old, plastic cased, 23" display, it may use ADC (Apple Display Connector).
<http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
In that case, you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

in addition to a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter/
