Blue Ray DVD Burner: Will the drive play both formats i.e. Blue Ray

I'm configuring a HP notebook which will come with a Blue Ray writer and DVD burner. I won't burn anything. I just would like to know if the driver will play both formats, i.e. Blue Ray and DVD movies. Can someone answer my question?

  • DVD Drive will not recognize any movie DVD disk in the drive - thus will not play any dvd movies.

    HP G71 449WV dvd drive will not recognize any dvd disc that has a movie on it. Will not play movies, keeps saying to insert disc when there is a disc in there.  It will recognize a dvd data disc or a blank dvd, it just will not recognize any dvd movies.  I've tried the microsoft fix it, downloaded new codecs, using different dvd playback software but none of that works since the drive will not recognize there is even a dvd movie in the drive.  Computer is out of warranty.

    Hello crollinsphoto1, welcome to the HP Forums.
    It appears that you're not able to play movie DVD's in the DVD player in your notebook. I will try to assist you with this.
    I'd recommend starting with this document:
        Resolving DVD and Blu-ray Movie Problems (Windows 7).
    Also, are these purchased DVD's or burnt DVD's?
    Do the movies play in other sources? (DVD player, other PC)
    Let me know how this goes.
    Thanks.

    looking for a external blu ray dvd burner for my mac

    There are plenty of options but I have found that the LaCie d2 http://blu-ray.burnworld.com/burners/lacie-d2.htm works more consistantly. I use Toast 11 mainly for Blu-Ray. The drive does come with a basic verison of the software which is good for most but you need to upgrade to do some serious authoring.

  • Blue Ray DVD Burner - Which one should I buy?

    I haven't changed any settings regarding region codes

    You may have run discs from different regions,these would be commercial DVDs. If so most DVD players need to be told what region the disc is from. Have you done this by chance, if you are not sure look at the region numbers listed on the commerical DVDs you have and see if some use different numbers.

  • The DVD burner will not open

    The DVD burner will not open. I bought a DDV cleaner with the tiny brush, but it will not open for me to get the disc in!

    Hello Klaus,
    It is the built in Superdrive.

    Hi
    I have a dvd stuck in the drive and as I can not boot is there a way of removing the dvd ?

    Boot with the option key down.  You will see a window showing all the bootable systems.  Select the OSX boot and hit return.  Once you are booted into OSX, use the Startup Disk system preferences to change your default boot volume.

    i bough a new imac, this haven't dvd burner, i bought a external dvd burner but the imac havent a idvd and i need this program, no other one, how to download this and install?

    Hi
    how to download this and install?
    There are no free DownLoads !
    There are no legal DownLoads at all !
    If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
    Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
    only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
    You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • BluRay Burner and DVD Burner will access the disk and then disappear and then access the disk again constantly.

    Hi, I have a Dell system maxed out.  I have both a DVD Burner and a BluRay Burner drive in the system.  I just had to replace the fan on the CPU as the plastic that would hold it onto the mother board broke.  I have a 120GB SSD as my main
    and a 600GB 10,000 RPM drive as my secondary drive.  Because I did not realize the Fan was the problem keeping the system from booting up all the way. Which never had any problems before I had to put the system into storage when I retired from the Air
    Force last year.  So any ways I rebuilt the system back with Windows 7 Ultimate.  Everything was working fine.  So I started installing all my other programs.  Over the next several days I did not notice any problems.  Until I went
    to play one of my games that requires a Disk to be in the drive to verify it was a OEM disk.  When I went to play I noticed the game kept asking for the disk even though the disk was already in the drive.  Went to my System display and noticed that
    the disk would show up for a few seconds and then disappear and then the drive would access the disk again and then disappear.  This keeps happening in both my drives.  I have read though the forums and this is not anything to do with the disk drive
    disappearing that I see all over the forums.  Also, when I start the computer up from the DVD or BluRay drive it starts up with no problems.  So it is not anything to do with the hardware. I believe this is something to do with some software I may
    have installed or something, but I don't believe it is hardware.  Now I see that it has duplicated my Two optical media drives.  If I can't get someone to help me fix this, I may have to go through the process and re-install the system and my other
    software to see if that fixes the problem.  Like I said I have never had this problem before.
    Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas.

    If the paste wasn't changed it will lead to heating problems, something that will show in different ways all the time, but thsi isn't the issue here.
    Could it bee that you accidentally moved the cables to the drive on the motherboard when you changed the fan? Make sure it's correctly connected in both ends.
    It could also be that the drivers for the SATA-controller needs to be updated, try and download the latest ones from the manufacturers webpage.

  • What is the quality of a DVD burned with the Toast  BluRay plug-in?

    I would like to purchase the plug-in for Toast 9 that allows you to burn BluRay content onto a DVD. I realize that it will not produce a "real" BD, but will it produce DVDs that are more HD quality than the normal SD quality?
    Rick

    Hi
    Don't know if plug-in works with Toast 9. I got mine by getting the full
    Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro pac.
    Yes this can burn Blu-Ray encoded onto a standard DVD (but much less eg about 20-30 minutes)
    • This BD-DVD needs a Blu-Ray Player to be viewed - No DVD-player or Mac can play it
    Sony PlayStation 3 Can do that. Some Cheap BD-players neither can not play it.
    Quality.
    • Very much better than SD-DVD. SlideShows can be very good if done right.
    I use FotoMagico (in the Roxio Toast set of programs)

  • Choosing an external DVD burner all the time instead of the built in burner

    I have the Superdrive but prefer to use the external DVD burner to save wear and tear on the Superdrive. When I pop in a blank DVD to burn, the drop down menu appears and I have to manually click on the external DVD burner. Is there something in the system preferences that I can click so that the external burner shows up and not the Super drive?

    This is our resident iPhoto guru, Terence Devlin's, advice:
    You can move your iPhoto Library to an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    Once that is done you can import directly into the iPhoto library on the external HD.

  • DVD burner will not burn DVD-RW

    CPU=Athlon 2000+
    RAM=512MB  10ns
    PSU=300W 240V
    HD=Western digital 80GB 8MB cache ( WD800JB)
    Motherboard=MSI K7n2g-L
    Bios=4.1
    VGA=Nvidia on board
    VGA_Driver=6.13.10
    Optical_Device=liteon SOHW-1653S
    Other=NIL - OS is Win XP
    I have a problem with my liteon DVD burner installation. Its a recently released model SOHW-1653s.
    The drive has been installed and works fine for DVD-R single write DVD's and CD-R and CD-RW but will not erase or write to DVD-RW media. The errors I get differ when I try various DVD-RW media brands. from "illegal disk type "  to " illegal mode for this track "
    I put the drive in a socket 370 Celeron running Win 98 and it will burn both DVD-R and DVD-RW OK.
    So in desperation, I then shadowed the harddrive on my MSI machine and reformated and reinstalled Win XP.  The drive will still not recognise DVD-RW. I also tried various combination of media. mucking around with the IDE BIOS settings, changing around the drive from master slave configs and have uploaded the latest drive firmware and motherborad firmware. I contacted Liteon technical support and they advised to remove the nforce MCP IDE driver in leiu of a default one, but im not sure that is possible not to mention it probabaly would comprmise system performance.
    The problem is obviously with the motherboard. Can anyone advise what steps to take to remedy the fault?
    Thx

    Thx Wonkaboy.
    Well I didn't roll back ( to an nvidia dirver ) I went back to standard dual channel IDE driver - the XP provided one and the burner started to work. phew! Albeit at 2x DVD-RW instead of 4x. Not sure why that is....
    Then I thought what the heck I'll try the nvidia driver that I had installed on the machine before I wrote the original thread. And guess what it also works. Im not sure what happened. Maybe a dll was not installed or something. I have spent 2 days on and off with all sorts of variations of hardware configurations including an OS reinstall. Anyhow it's working now and thats
    PS: The driver that MSI provides is different to the one obtained by going directly to the Nvidia site. ie the nvidia one is 5.10.2600.412 dated 1/13/2004. And the one provided by MSI is 6.1.2600.0 dated 5/13/2002. Im now using the later one. I cannot say if the earlier one works.

  • Fit and usage problems with second DVD burner on Mirror Drive Door

    I got a Mirror Drive Door Dual 1.25 GHz (Firewire 400 only) to replace my dead Digital Audio model. It has been working fine for the past week, so today I was trying to transplant all my compatible upgrades over from the Digital Audio, but I am having problems with using 2 DVD burners.
    I left the original Apple Super Drive in the top optical bay and put my LaCie Lightscribe burner in the bottom bay.
    My first problem is that the opening in the lower bezel is too small from side-to-side for the LaCie tray to come out. It hits the bezel and goes back in. It looks like it is off by about 1-1.5mm on each side. I don't know if the drives will fit if I reverse their positions or not.
    Secondly, I don't think the jumpers are set correctly, and I am not 100% sure how to set them. I am guessing that they both need to be "Cable Select" like the hard disks in this model? I think I would prefer that the Apple drive stays the main drive. Right now, when I press the eject button on the keyboard, all I get is an endless cycle of the lower drive trying to eject its tray. I'm not finding the procedure for ejecting the the top Apple drive. Is there a key combination to select the upper drive? So far there is only Tiger 10.4.11 on this computer, though I will be installing Leopard shortly.

    I am guessing that they both need to be "Cable Select" like the hard disks in this model?
    Depends on the IDE cable, Master & Slave may be a better option.
    Might try this...
    On your main hard drive, dig down into System > Library > CoreServices > Menu Extras. Inside that window, double-click on the icon called Eject.menu.

    If two drives are properly recognized it'll allow you to choose which one.
