  • Can you play blu ray on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro and I am wondering if I can play Blu ray movies on my MacBook?

    Of course you can...
I bought this off of amazon.com... Samsung SE-506BB. Took me a while to understand the difference between AB and BB, found that BB is the latest version with a few bugs resolved.
Get Macgo from http://www.macblurayplayer.com... Download the trail version... I have been playing Blurays using this...
    enjoy
    Thanks & Regards

Forgot to add... Unlike OWC, Samsung doesnt need an external power supply... Good for carrying around...

    Hiya..
Thought You should know the Panasonic UJ-225 is a 12mm IDE drive and therefore won't work in the latest Unibody MacBook Pro 17" series cause they are using SATA interfaced SuperDrives which are 9mm (same unit as found in the Unibody MBP15".

The UJ-225 will however work in the older Aluminium MacBook Pro 17".

  • How Play Blu-Ray on MacBook Air?

    Mavens,
Have you ever travelled with your MacBook Air...intending to view a few Netflix originated Blu-Ray discs to fend off the boredom of yet-another-bland-hotel-room...only to discover the Apple SuperDrive doesn't support Blu-Ray?
What did you do? Is there a legitimate way to view Blu-Ray discs on an Air? Are there reliable 3rd-party drives/software available?
    Your suggestions are invited.
    Thanks,
    Plane Wryter

Step 1: Connect the Blu-ray drive to the MacBook Air via the USB interface
Step 2: Get the MacBook Air Blu-ray Player
Step 3: Install and run MacBook Air Blu-ray Player software on your MacBook Air
Step 4: Play Blu-ray Disc, Blu-ray ISO file, BDMV folder on MacBook Air
Insert your BD into the Blu-ray driver and MacBook Air Blu-ray Player software will load and the BD will be played automatically.
Otherwise, you can press "Open Disc" button to select BDMV folder or press "Open File" button to choose Blu-ray ISO file to play.
Finally, you can have a great Blu-ray fun on your MacBook Air.
By the way, you can change it into full-screen mode, which will bring you into a more fantastic Blu-ray media world.

  • Blu ray on Mac Pro

Is anyone having consistant results with any combo for burning blu ray?
    Thanks
    John

    Hi,
I have an LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray burner connected to my Mac Pro via SATA and the already supplied Molex power supplies.
To connect it all up, you really have 2 options depending on how you want to use it.
Option 1 (Bootcamp and OS X Compatible) - Get a SATA Male to SATA Female cable and connect to one of the 4 HDD bays. Then use the already supplied (with the drive) Molex to SATA Power adapter to power the drive with one of the available Molex power supply.
Option 2 (Only OS X Compatible) - Get a normal SATA cable and connect to one of the 2 extra SATA ports on the motherboard (Behind the front fan, so you will need to take this out to plug it in)(You may also need to get a SATA cable that has a 90 degree bend in one of the connectors to make it fit).
In my case, I used Option 1 because of the fact that it works with Bootcamp and with the supplied software, I can play back Blu-Ray movies on Vista. I also use both Windows (supplied software) and OS X (with Toast 10 Pro) to burn Blu-Ray and everything works a charm. I did find with Toast 9, that it was a little buggy with Blu-Ray for both Data and Video. Toast 10 Pro is best.
Anyways, that is my set up. Criticize if you will, but it works a charm for me.

  • Success burning Blu-ray on Mac Pro

Invested in new Sony BWU-300s burner. Installed in lower bay. Used Toast 9 with Blu-ray plug in. Dragged and dropped small 600+ Mb Quick Time HD movie I shot and edited on Mac Pro. Burned to re writable Blu-ray disk. Played back on new Sony BDP-S550. This worked perfectly the first time.

This is the story I published elsewhere of the sequence of events on October 31st.
New Sony Blu-ray burner arrived yesterday evening. After purchasing a BD-RE blank disk I proceeded to remove the hard drives in the Early 2008 MacPro. Included in the BWU-300S was all necessary adapter cabling and screws. Mechanically, the tray front plate to the burner needed to be removed. After easily removing the Optical drive support assembly cage I proceeded to locate an available SATA connector on the mother board. Once the SATA cable was routed and connected the power adapter cable was atached. The drive was bolted to the cage and the cage reinserted into the MacPro.
Next I attempted to play a Blu-ray movie. The disk did mount on the desktop but would not play. Now for the finale. I inserted a blank new rerecordable TDK disk from Frys. I chose a 600+Mb HD video file that was edited in Final Cut and dragged and dropped onto Toast 9 in the video mode. The Blu-ray option was highlighted. I clicked the record button and it began recording. This was a 3 minute + HDV shot Quicktime file. After recording I placed the disk in my new Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray player. It spun up and played. The result was a 20+ Mb per second beautiful playback of my Swiss Rail video. It met and exceeded my expectations. Aside from the inability for now to play commercial Blu-ray disks (I only tried one disk) I am completely satisfied with the burner and Toast 9 with the Blu-ray add on software. I feel very fortunate for this to work as well as it did. Perhaps the wisest thing is to purchase one re recordable disk in case of problems.
Hope this helps fill in some blanks.

  • Comment lire les DVD Blue Ray sur mac pro HELP ME

    bonjour,
Je n'arrive pas à lire les DVD Blue Ray sur mon mac. dès que j'insère le DVD , IL EST automatoquement ejecté . Merci de votre aide
    A bientot

    Hi
Je ne parle pas Francaise at all - so I guess that it's about Blu-Ray .
I use Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl BD-component (now version 11) to do sort of Blu-Ray coding to standard DVDs - limit is about 20-30 minutes if quality is keept. It can also burn true Blu-Ray but then You need a BD-Burner and BD-disks.
    The DVDs with BD-code needs a Blu-Ray player to be played - I use a PlayStation 3

  • TRUE BLU-RAY AUDIO - X58 Pro-E very important question !

    I have a problem.
I want to buy a motherboard with X58 Pro-E and build HTPC HD Audio.
What does this mean "TRUE BLU-RAY AUDIO" ?
There is no HDMI output, only S/PDIF !!!!!
    - There is no HD audio bitstream (DTS-HD MA/TrueHD) - no HDMI !!!
    - Does not decode HD Audio -> LPCM 7.1 - no HDMI !!!
    - That decodes the HD Audio (7.1) to analog?
    - If only decodes HD from Blu-Ray Stereo (via. SPDIF)?
What does this mean "TRUE BLU-RAY AUDIO" on MSI motherboard ?
    Regards.
    HerrMan

      >> TRUE BLU-RAY AUDIO <<
    • The loss-less content protection technology with full-rate audio enjoyment from Blue-ray Disc
    • Support for 24-bit / 192kHz sample rate offers high quality digital decoders and speakers
    • support 7.1 channels playback, plus 2 channels of independent stereo sound output (multiple streaming) through the front panel stereo outputs
There is no HDMI because there is no onboard video. The video card you get would need to have HDMI output.
LPCM: Linear Pulse Code Modulation. It is an algorithm used to convert analog audio to digital. It gives pure loss less representation of the original analog audio in digital.
7.1 is the latest in speaker configuration. Mono is one speaker, stereo is two, 5.1 has 5. The problem with 5.1 is it produces angled audio. To get the best out put you have to sit in the center and all speakers have to be placed the right way. 7.1 solves those problems, even if the speakers are not perfectly aligned you still get very good results.
S/PDIF-out JSP1 on MB connects to video card for HDMI sound.

  • Macbook Pro 96gb kingston SSD + 1TB WD Scorpion Blue: Harddrive Issues

    Hi,
I would like to ask to following thing:
I installed the 96gb kingston SSD & the 1tb WD Scorpion Blue in my macbook pro (Mid-2008 model).
I use the 1tb as storage drive so my data gets moved to this drive. Now the following thing is happening:
When I try to play a file in itunes (.m4a audio file for example) the file gets loaded but suddenly stops playing. Same when I move large amounts of data to the hard drive it suddenly stops, the beachball pops up wait 10/15seconds and then continues.
Is there a way this can be fixed or is this a drive error? Should I check it with drive genius?
I don't have them installed in any raid or something like that. I just plugged them in and installed Leopard 10.6.7.
    Greetings,
    Maxime

I have to add that both drives are formatted with Journaled HFS+

  • 15 inch early 2011 Macbook Pro to Mid 2010 27 inch Imac Target Display Mode

    Hi Guys
I have a early 2011 15" Macbook Pro with thunderpolt port aswell
as a Mid 2010 27" iMac with MiniDisplay port.
I am trying to use the iMac as a second screen for my Macbook.
Both has Mountain Lion on them.
I have both Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt aswell as miniDisplay to MiniDisplay
    cables.
I can't get target display mode to work.
The thunderbolt cable doesn't work at all.
The MiniDisplay does seeem to work to an extend but not completeley.
When i plug in the MiniDisplayPort cable to both machines then
the Macbook pro screen becomes blue which means secondary monitor detected.
iMac screen becomes blank. Sometimes i have enough time to see in system preferences that
the Macbook pro actually has a secondary monitor.
But just as it turned blue on the Macbook pro and black on the iMac. It turns blue again
and the iMac returns to it's Desktop.
The exact same happens when i Press Command + F2 on iMac keyboard.
    Any help or ideas?

I have a 13"macbook air and a Dec. 2012 iMac 27". Out of the blue it stopped working in Target Display Mode. Switching cables doesn't help, and the iMac and MBair are connect to power. I can see the iMac screen in Share Screen mode on the MB air.
This seems to be an issue, I have encountered eg. in MacRumours:

I have the same issue with my 2012 27" iMac (3.4, 680MX). When I initiate Target Display mode the iMac goes black and never comes back up. On the laptop I can see the display in Display Preferences, but its as if the backlight doesn't come on in TD mode. (I even did screen sharing into the laptop and can see both displays there.
Anyway, called Apple and they determined its an issue and I have to send in for a replacement.
Anyone else with a 2012 iMac (21.5 or 27), can you please test out Target Display mode and let us know if things are working or not?

  • Problem using time machine from migrated MacBook Pro

I upgraded from a 2.66Gig 15 inch dual core to a 2.2GHz 15 inch quad core (MacBook Pro 8,2) - I used setup assistant to transfer files and settings form the old mac to the new one over ethernet - Everything (apps, documents, preferences) transferred fine and the new mac is a clone of the other except for being able to use time machine. On running for the first time I get an error dialog "Time machine could not complete the backup. The backup disk image "Volumes/backups/restOfPath.sparsebundle" could not be accessed(error-1).
I tried a full reset of TM (deselecting the backup drive, turning off, deleting the preferences .plist and rebooting), with the same result. The image that is created is 1.6TB (on a 1 TB Iomega Home Storage drive). The image of my old time machine reflects the drive size -I don't know if this is a problem, both images are twice the size of the respective mac's inbuilt drives).
I looked at the troubleshooting tips and installed TM buddy - the log from the new mac shows this:
    Starting standard backup
Attempting to mount network destination using URL: afp://Ray%[email protected]/backups

    Ejected Time Machine network volume.
The original mac can still use it's backup on the same disc - it gives the same warnings about Lock Stealing and Server Reply Cache, I'll append a report from TM Buddy below this one.
I'd appreciate any help that people can provide - I'm using the same username and password connecting to the backup disc from either mac so I'm presuming it's not an access privilege thing (but if it is I may need an idiots guide to changing these:))
    Cheers

Sorry - I totally missed this longer post you made - here are the answers to the best of my knowledge - I seem to have answered a couple accidentally in my next post, but didn't directly address what you'd asked - sorry about that I just totally missed your post before reposting an update to (what I thought was) my one-man thread!
    {quote:title=Pondini wrote:}
When you set up Time Machine on that NAS, do you create the sparse bundle manually, or does the NAS do it? Is there a setting on the NAS to limit the size? (One of the disadvantages to using a 3rd-party NAS is, few folks here, or with Apple, know much about how that particular NAS interacts with OSX).
    {quote}
It seems that the NAS does it automatically, sometimes wrongly (it puts the wrong MAC in occasionally, and it appends .local after the username (not sure of the relevance of this, but in the manual setup that got me limping along in the later post, it doesn't mention the .local bit and I didn't use it (maybe this is why the access is through ip address now?)
Those seem to mean your NAS isn't fully compatible with Snow Leopard. See if there's a software/firmware update for it.
I'm using the latest firmware, and it works with the other mac also running 10 6.6
also throwing the same warning but with no apparent problem (yet:P)
I'd appreciate any help that people can provide - I'm using the same username and password connecting to the backup disc from either mac so I'm presuming it's not an access privilege thing (but if it is I may need an idiots guide to changing these:))
That would be on the NAS, not OSX, so you'd need their instructions or help.
Indeed it was (fix seems to be to manually install a newly created sparsebundle)
You might try repairing the sparse bundle. Follow the instructions for a Time Capsule in #A5 of [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Thanks - I tried that I think ( I read though most of your site and tried many things:)), but with no joy - thanks for taking the time to provide this useful resource.
On a Time Capsule or AirDisk, where Time Machine creates the sparse bundle, it's actual size starts out at just a few hundred MBs (the directory structure, etc.), then grows as backups are added. It's maximum size is set at the size of the volume it's on.
That seems to be the way with this too (the actual size is a few hundred megs - though disc utility reports it to be 1.5TB which is twice the size of the Mac disc)
Thanks again for your time and input,
    Ray

You need an external Blu-ray player (the built-in SuperDrive does not support Blu-ray) and a Blu-ray player (such as http://www.macblurayplayer.com/promotion.htm or http://www.bluray-player-software.com/ or any, really). Then you can play Blu-ray discs on your Mac.
