Blue Screen after recent Windows Updates

Hi,
Our iMacs running XP-Pro did a recent round of Windows Updates 9/2. They are all blue screening Pagefaultin non-paged area, win32k.sys problem.
System Restore does not work
Can onlt boot to Safe Mode
Tried Last Known Good configuration (worked on some)
Has anyone else seen this and has a fit?
Thanks

I have seen this problem on a bunch of iMacs running bootcamp at multiple sites. The issue is definetly a mixture of ATI graphics cards and a recent windows update (I have not been able to identify which one). The fix has been simple though.
1. Reboot the iMac
2. Hold down the Option(alt) key
3. Select Windows partition
4. Quicky tap the F8 key after the partition selection
5. Select Enable VGA mode
6. Install BootCamp 3.0 drivers.
7. Reboot
That should do it. I have fixed about 20 macs this way, no fuss, plus the newer drivers add a whole bunch of enhancements to the iMac running XP.

  • Blue screen after installing windows update

I get this error message after I install the windows updates. I have the K8n Neo Platinum with Nvidia Nforce 3 250gb chipset. I am running XP X64. The computer runs great until I do the windows update. I have tried changing setting in the bios but that don't matter. Here are 3 pix. I had to take them quick so they aren't very good. I am right now re-formatting again so I am on my other computer.
OK how do you add pix from a digital camera on this forum??? ,
Here is what it says. stop: c000021a (fatal system error) this session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000263 (0x00000000 0x00000000) the system has been shut down.
It then goes into a reboot mode and comes back with the same blue screen error code.
    Help

I e-mailed MSI tech support today also about the problem. A month ago I did the same thing. The tech said "oh I haven't heard of that happening before"  So thanks for the link. I can't wait to get the "haven't had that happen before" DUUHHHH again. I will just link them. A month ago I wrote went through about 10 of the updates. Doing a re-install, updating and see what happens. I wrote down a couple of them that cause problems. It was just way to much work to time consuming so I just stopped.
I don't quite understand that voltage thing with the processor. I would think you should be able to set the bios to "fail safe setting" and it should run and do everything.
It don't look like they posted a fix for this problem. But I didn't install any of the security updates anyways. I wonder if it is just my Motherboard or what. There must be someone out there who is running x64 with one of these boards.
    thanks again.

  • Outlook 2010 and 2013 hang on when starting up after recent Windows Updates (April 2014)

    Hello all,
I have roughly 140 or so installs of Outlook in my organization and I have been getting reports of Outlook hanging on startup.  It seems to be associated with a windows update but I don't know which one.  I have had success resolving the issue
by rolling back the recent updates (using system restore), but in this one case, there were 30 or so updates that were rolled back.  Unfortunately, I had move quick on that computer.  I had another computer yesterday with the same issue and have
a report of yet another today.  I need to figure this out before it becomes and epidemic!  Anyone else seeing this?  It does not appear to effect everyone.

    Hi,
If you are sure that recent Windows Updates caused this issue, We recommend you to remove the newly installed updates.
You don't have to roll back using system restore, just go to Control panel>Program and features>View installed updates and uninstall newly installed updates.
I currently haven't observed any user report the same issue. If this is confirmed by Microsoft that some recently released updates cause Outlook hangs problem, there will be a fixed version published later on; either a newer version or a new KB article.

  • Blue Screen Crash Running Windows Update on Reboot

I installed Windows 7 and Boot Camp Support Software. Installation went smoothly and no problems. When I run Windows Update, it requires a system reboot; however, each time I boot into the Windows partition, I get the dreaded blue screen of death. Then on reboot, Windows runs startup repair and restores the last installation. I think the problem might be that I am installing too many updates at a single time but not sure if it's something to do with the Boot Camp partition. I deleted the Windows partition and reinstalled Boot Camp but the problem persists. Windows 7 works fine, but can't seem to install updates.

Did you get the Apple drivers installed off your OS X DVD?
Is that what you mean by "reinstalled Boot Camp" ?
Did you get Apple Software Update (in Windows of course) up to Boot Camp 3.2?
Try getting those installed before Windows updates more.
No need to 'delete' Windows partition, just do a custom clean format and install what you meant?
No need to deal with Boot Camp Assistant again, all that does is set aside and create a partition to begin with.

I would love to say that a refresh worked for me however it did not.It takes about 30 Minutes total I was able to trace part of the issue to a Registry Key that was tagging the processor. Because my BIOS manages its own temp gauge and windows is trying to
build on in I had to turn the BIOS one off as well as for some reason I get better funtionality with Visualization off.
I am still dealing with a lag but I was able to get ride of the freeze that made the computer completely useless.

  • Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V guests lose NIC after recent Windows Update

    Hi Folks,
I have  a Windows 2008R2 Hyper-V server with 20 guests.  They have been using a standard network adapter for 2 years.  Last night after running this months windows updates on a number of the guest VMs, each running Windows 2008R2 some of these
adapters disappeared.  That is they are not visible in "network adapters" on the guest VM, the static IP configuration is gone and instead the VM had a dynamically assigned IP shown in IP config to a Microsoft VM bus network adapter #2.
The other machines that didn't have updates run on them and have adapters visible show a Microsoft VM bus network adapter.
I don't see anything obvious in event viewer.
I've done the basic "reinstall integration services" but it still doesn't show a configurable network adapter.
I've uninstalled the windows updates and "reinstalled integration services" no luck.
Does anyone have recommendations on next steps?
I'll update the post as I move forward.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Could you try to show the hidden device in the device manager, you can refer the following article to show the hidden device:
How to Find a Lost, Missing, Hidden or Removed Network Card (NIC) or Other Device and Even Remove it
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/danstolts/archive/2010/09/25/how-to-find-a-lost-missing-hidden-or-removed-network-card-nic-or-other-device-and-even-remove-it.aspx#sthash.z6jSu8tZ.dpuf
If you can see the lost NIC adapter then try to remove it uninstall it then rescan the device to see if there have the virtual NIC adapter found.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lync freezes after recent Windows updates

Shortly after installing the latest Windows updates, the Lync client started to freeze. It starts and logs me in, but after a few moments it freezes and is not responding to any actions. For what it's worth, if I try to schedule a new Lync meeting in Outlook

  • After recent windows updates, some users' task bar disappears

    Hello,
I have just installed a number of updates to my LAN via WSUS.
After these updates were installed on the WIN 7 workstations, some of the users are reporting that their taskbar is missing.
Once they reboot, it comes back up, and after a couple days go by, it disappears again.
Has anyone else seen this issue with the recent updates?
Is there a hotfix for this other than rebooting?

    Hi,
    Sorry for the late reply.
When this issue occurred, please check the event viewer to see if there is any error information about this problem.
Also, check this following registry path to make sure winlogon launch Windows Shell:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
    Shell = “explorer.exe”
    UserInit = “userinit.exe”
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
    Shell = “explorer.exe”
    UserInit = “userinit.exe”
We can try to install the hotfix to update the related file to check how it works:
The Taskbar is reset to the default settings when you use the "Automatically Log On" feature in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Is anyone else experiencing their phone randomly locking up and going to a blue screen after the most recent update?

iPhone 5s Random Blue Screen after last Update

I have had 9 iOS devices either just show the apple log and go black or a dead battery even thou they were on the chargers for hours.
I brought them to the Apple store.  No one could give me an answer as to why it did it.  All you have to do to fix it is do this:
To put your device into recovery mode, follow these steps:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. ...
When you see this screen, release the Home button.
From the consensus of the people in my office that did the iOS 8.3 update.  The ones that did the update while the iPhone or iPad was on a charger are not experiancing any issues.  The ones that did the update without being on a charger are the ones experianceing the issues at hand.

  • Coldfusion 64 bit windows installer stops working after recent microsoft update

Coldfusion 64 bit windows installation stops working after recent microsoft updates and how I worked around it.
My question is at the end.
Trying to deploy coldfusion 9 enterprise 64 bit trial  version onto a Windows 2003 64 bit datacenter OS with all OS updates from MS (as of 4-7-2011).
Steps taken (remember, this is all 64 bit):
    1. Installed the base OS which was slipstreamed with SP2.
    2. Checked w/ microsoft and installed 63 OS updates.
    3. Launch the CF9 trial exe.
    4. As soon as the first screen finishes (the one that looks like  it is extracting files) then the second screen pops up (the one that  simply says CF Adobe Coldfusion 9) and the progress bar quickly moves  95% to the right and the install application quits. No error, no nothing. No log file either.
    5. After a moment of incredulous silence (and retrying/rebooting,  etc), I started to google it. I found nothing. However, I did find a  post (thanks dspent!) that was helpful in that it told how he was able  to get at a log file of sorts, by pre-extracting the  coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file and launching the adobe_cf.exe by hand.  (Dspent's install snafu was different than mine, but his post was very  valuable and got me started in the right direction.)
    6. Got a copy of rarunzipper and extracted the coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file.
    7. From the windows directory created by step 6, I launched adobe_cf.exe.
    8. Same thing (the install application quits. No error, no nothing. No log file either.).
    9. I examine the hs_err_pidxxxx.log file (where the xxxx is a number).
    10. I see inside that file an ominous message: "A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime" then "Problematic frame ntdll.dll" and then "The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code".
    11. OK, so now I am thinking ntdll.dll !! Native code !! It is like Java is telling me that for some reason it can't dance with the OS.
    12. On a hunch, I decided to test a CF install again on a server with just the base install of W3K3 64 SP2 (ie: skipping step 2 above this time).
    13. Bingo! That install works.
    14. Therefore, one of the 63 patches I had downloaded from MS had triggered a problem with the CF installer.
    15. Back on the first server (the one with the MS security  patches installed and the one that CF won't install on). In the CF file  adobe_cf.lax (one of the files extracted in step 6) there is a line that  mentions where the install gets it's java. Find that file, and check java version installer is using. It is using 1.6.0_14-b08.
    16. Off to the Java website, and there is a newer version of java (1.6.0_24-b07). Downloaded and installed it.
    17. Modify a line in adobe_cf.lax :
       before
         lax.nl.current.vm=resource\\jre\\bin\\java.exe
       after
         lax.nl.current.vm=C:\\program files\\java\\jre6\\bin\\java.exe
(that assumes that you let step 16 install to the default location)
    Save the file.
    18. Run the install ... ** IT WORKS ** !
Obviously, the built in java provided with the CF installer is  no longer compatible with some change introduced by some recent MS  update on the W2K3 64b SP2 platform.
And now the interesting part. Although I forced the installer to used the new java, it did not incorporate it into the cf build (ie: in jvm.config, you still see c:/coldfusion9/runtime/jre AND the  version of java.exe that is in that directory is the original version,  not the newer version I forced the installer to use).
On the surface, CF seems to run OK, but I have not done any application testing yet.
    And finally my
    ** QUESTION **
Would it be appropriate to simply point the java.home var to the new java directory? I see that the directory structures and files are not exactly the same  (close though) so I certainly don't want to break things by doing this,  but instinct tells me that if the installer broke using the older  version, then something else is gonna break down the road if I don't use  the new version. On the other hand, the differences in the  directories and files is enough that it makes me very nervous, with my  limitied java skill set, to make this decision.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Byron

    Hi Byron,
Wow great post no doubt much of the information will be useful for those on Win03 SP2 +. Have to say not come across similar problem on Win08 r2 SP1 +.
So to your question. Adobe security bulletin (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/894/cpsid_89440.html) recommends running CF8 and CF9 with JVM 1.6.0_24. The bulletin does not say how to do that. I take you installed JDK and not just JRE 1.6.0_24? Post install of JDK follow these steps:
Stop CF - SERVICES.msc stop "ColdFusion 9 Application Server".
Take a copy of CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config - so you got a backup.
Edit CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config find line "java.home=" and comment it out eg:
    #java.home=C:/ColdFusion9/runtime/jre
Add new line like so and save jvm.config:
    java.home=C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.6.0_24/jre
Note  there the slashes and the location of the JRE (runtime) - you need to  point to the one in JDK because the other JRE in C:\Program  Files\Java\jre6 will be missing a DLL.
    Start CF via SERVICES.msc.
    HTH, Carl.
