Blue screen after reinstall of 10.1, how to remove OS X and start over?

I updated 10.1 to 10.1.5 a month ago, then Software Update found additional updates to 10.1.5. After running them, several applications (especially Flash) stopped working correctly.
I attempted Disk Utility etc and found nothing wrong. I then attempted to uninstall 10.1.5 with the original 10.1 install disc but it does not allow that option. In desperation I tried installing 10.1 from the DVD, which it said was successful, but on reboot (after the normal MAc OSX bootup window) I get a blue screen with black-lettered clock in the upper right and a moveable mouse pointer but no desktop and all keys give only the submarine sound.
I am now running from the 10.1 System on another drive.
How do I remove all OSX stuff from my original hardrive and start over?

You cannot install a previous version of OS X over a more recent version without first erasing the hard drive (at least in your case because of the versions involved.) To reinstall 10.1 over 10.1.5 requires that you erase the hard drive, then install 10.1.
You might have saved some time and trouble by simply updating the software that wasn't working to newer versions that are compatible with the version of OS X you have installed.

    Hi,
This looks like a hardware issue. You should check the HDD and RAM.
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test you can test your HDD. Download the CD image, burn it on a CD and boot from it. Then you can the HDD.
On the same website is a user guide if you want to know more.
    http://memtest86.com/
Memtest86 is a diagnostic tool to check the RAM. There you can also download a CD image.
Its easy to use. Run the test 3-4 hours and then you will see if the RAM has some errors.
    Good luck!

  • How to erase ipod touch and start over

    Hello All,
Michael K. here. This is my first post and my first time here. I hope you can help. Thanks.
I downloaded IOS 8 a few days ago onto my iPod Touch, 5th gen.
Ever since I put the IOS 8 on I've had nothing but problems! ----- ie: message states I have no internet  connection. I don't. How do I get it back?
I've checked my setting in the Wi-Fi section and my ID is there, with a checkmark next to it. Above it though is: Wi-Fi with the green area on the on/off switch showing. My ID has a padlock, the wi-fi symbol and the circled i.
When I go to the ICloud page on the ipod ( as instructed in the ipod IOS 8 manual I found on the internet ) it has my name at the top of the page, my email address in small letters directly under it and then a space that asks for my password.I changed my password on my Mac-mini ( which I'm using now ) about an hour ago. I've typed my password into that space a million times, just to be sure I wasn't mistyping it but after waiting through the " verifying " process, I get a message that reads : " The password you entered is incorrect " ----- then there's an " OK " to check.
    Please help!
I just got this Mac-mini four days ago, replacing an HP ChromeBox. I thought that this was gonna be smooth sailing since the swap. Wrong!
Very frustrating not to be able go listen to podcasts on the iPod and also miss the music while exercising.
So I thought that by " wiping out the iPod Touch " and starting with a " New " ipod, I could get the thing working again.
As you've no-doubt surmised, I'm not very computer literate. My reason for wiping out the Touch is because that's how I remember to " fix " many things.
Heck, just unplug it, wait 15-20 seconds, plug it in again, and Viola!!!!! the problem is fixed.
But should I wipe out my ipod? There's nothing really on it that I need. I can install stuff I want again later.
Anyway, sorry for the long rant, but can anyone tell me what to do to get m iPod working again?
    I'd REALLY appreciate it!
    Thank you,
    Michael K.

  • When I click on itunes, I get error saying Quick time failed to initialize, no matter how many times I uninstall and start over.  What am I doing wrong?

My itunes account wouldn't open, so I had to uninstall and re-install.  I've done this 3 times with an error popping up everytime that "Quick time failed to initialize".  The message then suggests I uninstall itunes and reinstall.  If I click on Quicktime, independently, it opens right up with no problem.  What can I do?

  • HT1918 My apple I'd is incorrect, how do I clear everything and start over

    I can not download apps

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple,  Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > store, scroll down and tap your ID)

  • How to delete all photos and start over

is it possible to delete everything in i-photo and start over again from scratch.  I have dvd copies of everything, I want to start over just like the first time I opened the program.
new albums, new folders, ect---I really screwed up everything and want to start over

Just go into the pictures folder and delete the iPhoto Library. The next time you start iPhoto it will create a new one.
Just in case, you might want to rename it instead. That way you can still access the old library if you have to. When you find that you don't need it, you can delete it.

  • The spinning "wheel of death" does NOT go away! I've loaded too much stuff on my computer (including the entire Adobe CS6 software) and I want to delete everything on my macbook pro and start over? How do I clean everything up without buying MacKeeper?

I use my MacBook Pro (Late 2009) for EVERYTHING and I have loaded so many apps, even doubles of some, I think!   My computer is running really SLOW and I think it is because I don't have enough memory.
I just installed the new Adobe CS6 and that was a BIG mistake.  The spinnning wheel of death doesn't stop! I wish I could load that program on my computer so I can use it "on the go", but I can't stand the spinning wheel!
I want to clean up my computer and get rid of EVERYTHING on it!!     Then, re-install the factory settings to run Lion.  I believe this will make the wheel stop spinning.
However, how do I make sure that all of the extra stuff that is attached to the app, ( including all the cache') is deleted too?   I don't want to have to buy MacKeeper!
I am hoping the computer wizards or the apple team can give me an answer on how to clean up everything and start over.  I have saved everything on my desktop mac.

Thank you so much for the help!  I had heard bad things about MacKeeper and I don't want to screw up my macbook  any more than it already is!  I will do as you suggest.  Do you believe this is the best solution for the problem I described?
Should I load my Adobe Creative Suite 6 (in the cloud version) on an external hard drive?
I am so tired of this spinning wheel....should I avoid putting the CS6 on my macbook pro altogether?
I have it on my desk top mac, but wanted to be able to take the photo editing with me when I am "out and about".  I know I should probably buy the ipad, which would transport much easier, but even the ipad probably doesn't have the capacity to hold all the Adobe CS6 apps, correct?

  • How to erase everything in iTunes and start over

I now realize that I have TWO of each file and that NEITHER file shows the play count and rating from my previous computer. Furthermore, none of my playlists show up.
For this reason, I would like to know how I can erase EVERYTHING in my iTunes library (music, videos, etc.) and start over.
I used this tutorial to move all my music: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Someone please tell me how I can erase everything and start over so I can transfer all my music and playlists and music information (stars, play counts) from my iBook to my MacBook.

I've transferred music between computers like that, and I have NEVER been able to transfer play counts and ratings, which can be pretty frustrating, but hey at least you have all your music. If you want to start over, just select all your iTunes songs and erase them, and then open the music files on your harddrive or iPod or wherever they are, and you should be fine. If it bothers you seeing a zero next to the playcount, you can try hiding the playcount under the settings so you won't be reminded of it. I don't think it's possible to transfer playcounts, but if it is then good luck, and I hope this helps!

  • Blue Screen after clean reinstall snow leopard

I have a mid 2011 that came with Snow Leopard and disks.  I upgraded from there to Lion - then whatever came next and to Mavericks and finally Yosemite, which was a nightmare for me. I did not use disks of any of the rest.  So I just decided to take my disks and go back to Snow Leopard.  I did this and it asked to go to disk utility and repair both the HD and Permissions.  It came out ok, but there was an instance where looking at the list in HD repair, I saw Suid File System Library Core was moved and cannot be repaired. I went ahead and erased the Hard Drive. Then closed out and installed Snow Leopard. I'm not sure I did it right because I had to rename the new start up disk and typed in unnamed 1.
after that I was able to start up to Snow Leopard. It worked fine until I tried to download all the updates. Then it didn't seem to restart, but just went to the sign in screen.  So I had to keep shutting down and turning it back on. No updates. One of times I started up, I got the blue screen after the apple and gray screen.
Also on start up the apple comes up without the chime. Last night I got some instructions from a similar situation and tried to use my disk to a clean reinstall all over.  It didn't work, still the blue screen. (it does fine in safemode.)
I need help to get this mac running.  If someone can help me......

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Blue screen after login and Hard drive and startup disk is full -How do I get in to erase data?

    this user tip might help:
Your Mac needs adequate hard drive space to operate normally. How full can a drive be before it's too full? There is no hard and fast rule that says “X” amount or “%” of free drive space is needed. A low amount of RAM requires more drive space for Virtual Memory’s swap files.
Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space are discussed in this link
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/lackofram.html
Here’s some general guidelines for minimum hard drive free space:
    1. As a general rule, your available space should be 5GB as an absolute minimum as it generally requires that much free space to perform an Archive and Install of Mac OS X and still preserve some free space for VM swap files.
    2. Some say that your hard drive should have at least 5% of it's capacity available for use. Still others say 10% to 15%. If you routinely process complex graphics and videos, even more space is required.
Look at these links about freeing up more space.

Ok so i got this laptop in a few days ago here are the problems and the things i have tried. This laptop when it came to me did not have a hard drive, so obviously no OS. Upon installing a hard drive then trying to load Yosemite from a USB stick, I turn mac on, sleep light will blink 5 times then boot, Will come to normal gray screen then apple logo, will then load the OS install, but go straight to a blue screen with vertical lines. Tried different hard drive, tried different RAM sizes and speeds, tried different OS, tried CD instead. Have done numerous PRAM and SMC resets. trying Safe mode gets me a panic cpu 4 caller error then restarts. I have tried using a hard drive that had an OS already installed and will go straight to blue screen after loading. I have tried fsck -fy in single user mode. I do get that disk2s3 is write protected in single user mode, but im pretty sure that its the OS disk. I do not see a second hard drive in single user mode but i believe that because its not partitioned yet. Any ideas community?

Tried doing OS X lion by CD now, and will only get half way through load bar before the apple logo and loading bar disappears and then it will sit at a gray screen.
