Blue screen after start up; mouse still moves but no icons are visible

blue screen after start up; mouse still moves but no icons are visible.  Removed SDRAM and reinserted the SDRAM

Thank you, I had forgotten about target mode. I was able to back up all of my files. I also copied some additional 50 GB of files of the disk as a stress test and the hard drive worked fine and quick (and because it was quicker than retrieving the same files from a network drive to my desktop).
I was hoping to also unpack the Applejack files on my desktop and put them back so I could run them in single user mode without running /etc/rc. However I haven't been able to get my Linux desktop to mount the iBook in Read-Write instead of Read-Only yet (I don't have access to another Mac at the moment).

I have an issue where coloured dots (small squares) appear on my screen and it gets to the point where the entire screen freezes although the mouse still moves but nothing works and I need to turn the computer off at the switch. It doesn't happen all the time but is very annoying. Any ideas?

Reset the SMC and PRAM, if the issue continues then you likely have a failing GPU (hardware) that requires repair. To be sure take it in and have it professionally assessed.

  • Blue Screen after Start Up.

I've got a macbook pro from 2008. One day it was running extremely slow, then just shut down. When I went to reboot it, it started up correctly and went to the apple icon with the loading screen. It will sit on this screen for about 5 minutes, then act like it's going to boot up completely. Instead it just takes me straight to a blue screen, and won't allow me to do anything except move around the mouse cursor.
I've tried booting up while holding down all the hot keys, and from the Snow Lep CD. That runs for about an hour, and when it's halfway loaded it says that certain files could not be uploaded, or something along those lines.
Any help on this? This computer is my lifeline with FCP, and work on it.

To fix your issue is too complicated and lengthy to go into all of it here, it will require the services of person very familiar and experienced with Mac's to first recover your data and then restore OS X back to a functional state which may or may not require new hardware installed.
I advise you hire the services of a local Mac computer support technician experienced in these matters.
Have them look at your Wifi and computer backup proceedures in the process.
    Good Luck.

  • Blue screen after starting up

After closing my macbook without logging off, I tried to open it back it.  It was frozen on my log in screen, so I manually shut it down.  When I tried to start it up again, it showed the grey loading screen, but is now stuck on a blueish/grey screen and not doing anything else.  Please help me!

You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have the computer checked out.
    Best.

  • 24" iMac Blue screen at start up. Dock appears but cannot open Finder.

Error -10810 "The application Finder cannot be opened".

The fact that you can neither boot into sfe mode or from your startup disc tells me that you're probably holding the keys too early or late. Lets go back and try to start up in safe mode again http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
Press the Shift key immediately AFTER you hear the startup chime. Startting in safe mode deletes some temporary files that should allow you to get into Finder.

  • Blue screen after update to 10.6.2

After i updated my iMac 24, it restarted, got past the grey screen with apple logo, then get's stock in the blue screen after that. I can move the mouse but that's it. I tried restarting en reset my PRAM, nothing. Then i disconnected everything extrenal, restarted after resetting PRAM again, nothing???
What do i have to do??????
    Thanks for any help
    Hans

Same issue as alembee. Clean install of 10.6. Installed Xcode from disk. Changed a few preferences. Got prompt of 10.6.2 update (plus iTunes and Remote access). When updates were installed, I was given the options to "restart now" or "restart later". I chose now. It looked like I was logged out, but the computer (original MBP Core Duo) stalled at the background nebula/aurora image. I could still move the mouse. Since I enabled ssh remote login, I tested it from another computer. Sure enough, I could login to the MBP and see all the processes running (top). I executed a "sudo reboot" to remotely restart the system.
I put in the 10.6 disc (held down "c") and went to Disk Utility. Ran Verify Permissions and Verify Disk for good measure (nothing wrong). I have upgraded the RAM and HD since purchase, but I don't see how this would be an issue. Since I was able to login remotely, it was seems to be an issue with proper logout and restarting.

  • Crash? Mouse still moves

So my MacBook Pro crashes, mouse still moves but it doesn't respond to other inputs. This occurs on the version installed on my SSD when i startup with the OS on my regular HDD it doesn't seem to have the problem.
Below my console log, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the crashes. Anyone an idea how to fix this without reinstalling the complete system and having to install all software again?

  • Why can't I access my own wifi? why do I get a blue screen on start up or after watching a netflix movie, and why is it getting so hot?

My mac has been showing a blue screen on start up and before shut down, especially after netflix. Is it silverlight? Why can't I get on my own wifi? It defaults to a linkys public network, I try to access the secure network, type my password, enter, and I get connection timeout.

Don't know what the problem is/was, but I solved it by reloading my computer to Out-of-Box condition, and all is perfect now  .. I have an alert set up for this Error 400 .. Masses of people are having problems daily ..

  • Unresponsive system but mouse still moves; even after restart

I was transferring a few files over my LAN wirelessly via file sharing to another macbook (B) when that macbook was closed and caused a disconnect. My macbook (A) has experienced issues since this disconnect. Even after restarts and resetting the pram, my system is unresponsive. The mouse will move but I cannot open applications, folders, files, or even the menu. It is as if my mouse is moving over top a picture of the desktop. I did manage to click and highlight my HD icon once but as soon as I did, the color wheel showed up and never stopped. My hard drive has over 10GB of space free. I was able to do a target disk boot and test the drive and its ok according to disk utility. Any ideas about what I could do would be greatly appreciated...preferably without wiping the hard drive.

The first issue occurred while I was transferring large files from one computer to another via afp file sharing over my wireless network. In the middle of this transfer, someone closed the receiving macbook. The macbook sending the files didn't respond well after this. It would intermittently freeze without a linked resource draining process. I believe the first occurrence was when I tried to right click a file that had been interrupted during transfer. I forced a restart, used the killall Finder command in terminal thinking that it might still be trying to transfer the file to a ghost in some way...even though that didn't make sense. I was able to verify and repair the external drive the file was on. After doing this and resetting the PRAM, it was back to normal for a little while. After a bit of normal activity (nothing strenuous), it began to freeze again. I tried the same steps and also booted in target disk mode so I could use the other macbook to run diagnostics. The drive got repaired. I attempted to restart the affected macbook but I couldn't do anymore than one thing and the never-ending colorwheel would appear. That one thing could be a single click on a file or an attempt of opening an application. After that I turned to this discussion forum after already impatiently attempting to safe mode boot and repair disk permissions. I tried this again with patience after your suggestion. It worked for a few hours and I was able to surf the web once more and go about the usual. I pulled up dashboard and pressed command+ to bring up the list of widgets and it froze on me again. I attempted previous steps again after restarting but there has been no difference in response. Throughout the entirety of this experience, there have been no error messages. Also, there's no difference in behavior if I disconnect everything but the power cable.
Sorry for the lengthy post but hopefully it will be helpful.
