Blue Screen, can't restore.

So I bought this iPod touch, 5th gen for 200 bucks in July.  It was working fine until yesterday, I went to update it to iOs 6.0, it died in the middle of the update, so I went to charge it.  I turned it on only to find a blue screen, I did a manual reset like 15 times, each time same result.  I checked the internet, and I saw that  restoring it while in safe mode will fix it.  Well I put it in safe mode, went to restore, and it times out. Every.single.time.  I have updated to the latest iTunes, and I have no idea what to do now.
Tl;dr:
Updating to ios 6.0, it crashed, got a blue screen, when I go to restore it in safe mode it times out.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My guess, based on your info and the fact that the shuffle is an older model, is that the shuffle's battery is worn out and not holding a charge.  When you plug it in, it functions because it is getting power from the USB connection and appears to charge.  When you disconnect it, it goes dead because battery does not hold the charge.
Since you have already tried doing a Restore, the problem is hardware and not software.  Unless you want to do the work yourself

the cost for replacing the battery probably exceeds the $50 for a new 4th gen shuffle.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Slow boot after blue screen and system restore

I did the updates (Security 2008-002, Safari 3.1 and others) in Software Updates and then could not get past the blue screen. Tried all the advice on these boards but none worked. So I used Time Machine to restore the system. It worked except that now the booting process pauses (on a blue screen) for about 5 minutes. Then the process completes and everything appears to be fine.
However, this delayed booting does not seem right and never happened before.
    Anything I can do?

    What kind of incompatibility issues?
How far does the xp installation get?
What do you mean by 'uninstalling the vista bootloader'?
It seems very unusual that you can't boot from the CD anymore. Maybe double check the boot priority again, or have CD as the only boot option?
I can make XP BSOD and Reboot on my V200 by setting the SATA mode to AHCI. *no floppy = no F6 driver installation
I can't recall how VISTA reacted to setting SATA to AHCI.
Let me know how it turns out.

  • X61s (7668CTO) blue screens during factory restore

How can I get factory restore discs that actually work? My X61s was purchased with a Vista Ultimate OEM (32-bit) installation, but when I attempted to do a factory restore this weekend using the recovery disks with the laptop, the recovery process complained that the second disk was not the correct disk. If I follow the prompts to continue it blue screens with a "Page Fault in non-paged area" error. I then tried to use the version on the recovery partition (not the created discs) but it also blue screens with the "Page Fault in non-Paged area."
How can I get factory restore disks that actually work to recover my Vista Ultimate OEM installation to the factory settings? I am (just barely) still inside my warranty period, so want to get this resolved ASAP. The only other recovery CDs it came with are for XP, but the laptop was purchased and shipped with Vista Ultimate and I don't want to downgrade to XP.
I could no longer boot into Windows or do a factory recovery. I have installed Linux so I can work again, but I would like to have the option of booting Vista if I need it.
    Thanks for any help/guidance,

    Hello pdpan,
please refer to this microsoft article and use the usb drive from you brother and a XP disc.
Perhaps the windows repair option will bring you back to work.
Another question what will happen if you hit blue button at start up?

  • Freezing with blue screen & can't boot from single user mode or disk

My keyboard is wired and plugged directly into my Intel iMac running OSX 10.5.8. I do not have the Leopard disks, but I do have the Tiger disks. I was trying to boot in single-user mode so that I could run AppleJack to try to fix another issue I'm having--I get the light blue startup screen flashed at me several times daily for the past week or so. When the blue screen flashes, it totally freezes my computer (obviously) and lasts from 1-10 seconds. I can't find anything that is triggering it. I haven't installed anything new that I'm aware of, and it happens whether the computer has previously been slept or not. I'm also not using an external display / additional monitor.
Also, for anyone who is nice enough to answer, please explain everything--I'm not an expert user.

Well since it is so time consuming and a security risk to turn off FileVault, I was hoping to hear from someone with more experience if this was the solution, or just something to "try"? Are you speaking from experience or just making a suggestion, leroydouglas? Thanks.

  • Blue screen - can't use disc utility

My 2012 Macbook Pro won't start up and has a blank screen after doing the mac tune with the apple logo. I tried starting up with command R keys held down and then again with Option key held down to get to the recovery HD and then it gave me a blue screen both times.
I have pulled out all peripherals however in September last year I had the dvd drive replaced (as it wasn't working) with a Sony Apple SATA DVD drive. Don't know how to get around this.
Before it broke down yesterday the hard drive fan was running quite hot and loud.
    Anything else I can try?

  • GE60 0NC-622UK laptop is stuck on Blue Screen can't login! please help..

Had this laptop for just one month, before it's all good. Windows 8 64bit.
In last two days, the mouse and touchpad became dysfunctional occasionally, able to move the pointer but just could't click on anything regardless of left or right, e.g. choose or open new. It would be working after logoff/relogin and reboot, but same problem still came up randomly.
Last night, I did the same thing to reboot the laptop after had the pointer dysfunction, but then it displayed a blue screen before the login with a error called 'System Thread Exception Not Handled', and then just stayed on this page would't reboot automatically (waited for 30 mins), so it left me no choice to shut it down by pressing power on/off button manually, afterwards with couple of times rebooting, it just kept going into this same blue screen and could't get into the system...Sometimes it would automatically start diagnosing before blue screen, ask me to restore or repair, but none of them fixed the problem, repeatedly stuck on blue screen every time...
And I don't have any windows 8 dvd, delivered box only has one for drivers and manual book.. so boot from dvd is not possible..
p.s. sorry about my english if caused confusion
    thanks..

Try starting Windows 8 in Safe Mode, its kinda difficult in Windows 8 to do you have to be very precise when doing it, right as the system boots you need to start spamming F8 sometimes you have to do Shift+F8.
You may want to disable fast boot in the BIOS so you have some time to get ready to hit the buttons, once you get the boot menu up try Start Up Repair first and see if it fixes anything then try booting, if noting then try safe mode and un-do anything you have done to the system recently.
Let me know how this goes.
    Really appreciated your help!
I get into troubleshooting page by pressing F3 when laptop was booting up, and changed start up with Safe mode which works..I've done many things in Safe mode, like updated drivers, run anti-virus program, deleted recent installed software, and then somehow the blue screen error was gone after reboot...It seems one of them must be the cause for that problem.
Anyway, my laptop is working properly now, thanks a lot, if error happens again in future i might still need some help

  • Blue Screen - Can't Log on to my Account

Suddenly, I cannot log on to my Mac - G4 Tower - OSX 10.4.7. When I switch it on, all I get is a blue screen - after the "starting MAC OS X" box and the spinning gear. The Mac is set up so that my account automatically logs on but nothing happens - the screen flashes and the spinning gear re-appears frequently but I cannot log on. I have started in single user mode and run fcsk -fy; but this had made no difference.
I have started in SAFE MODE and can log on using another account (Supervisor) but when I try to log on to my account, I return to the log on screen which still says SAFE MODE.
From the Supervisor account I cannot access the Login items for my own account, so I'm not sure how I can check them and remove anything I think is causing the problem.
I'm beginning to think that my account is corrupted in some way but really have no idea what to do next. Can anyone help please?
    Thanks in advance.

    hi cliff--
do you mean you went through the steps i suggested, or all the ones in the article? if you went through all the steps in the article, and it still isn't working, you should archive and install your operating system. this should allow you to access your account again. steps for the archive are outlined here. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120. make sure you repair the disk beforehand with disk utility, and run software updates afterwards to bring the operating system up to the current version, or things may not work properly. you will have to reinstall any third party software. • HT1492 Start-up disk is full and can't go past the blue screen; can't delete read-only files on single-user mode. Please help.

I have had my Mac mini for about 6 years and I guess it had enough of me (haha), so the start-up disk got full and it shut down before I could empty files on my drive. Unfortunately, all these years I hadn't backed up anything and now I can't access anything since it won't boot past the apple logo (and the blue screen for that matter). I have tried rebooting (holding shift as the mac mini loads), but that didn't help since the start-up disk will still be full and stuck on the blue screen. I am now trying the single-user mode (holding command key+s), and I tried to delete files in the trash bin but all of the files are read-only and access is denied! so I basically can't delete anything on the mac mini (it says "Root device is mounted read-only"). So the key here is to change the permissions but I don't know how to exactly do that. Can someone help me figure this out? (and type the command in the unix language please!!) [ Note: We have two users on this mac mini if that helps.]

    Run the following command:
    mount -uw /
    This isn't a permissions issue.

  • IPhone 6 White Screen, Can't Restore from MacBook Pro

My iPhone 6 was working just fine this morning and even let me add ringtones onto it. However, I recently opened Instagram and then the phone started to act slow. The volume panel got stuck onto the screen and then my whole screen went white. I can't restore from my computer because it always tell me to change the Find My iPhone settings from my phone, which I can't do because of the all-white screen. Despite the stillness of the screen, it makes the lock and screenshot noise. I got my phone in late February and I recently updated it about a week ago. I really need to use my phone because of school and appointments. Is there anything I can do to make the screen work? I haven't dropped it, let it near water or had it 'jail broken'.

    Hey masterofpigeons,
Sorry to hear that you cannot see anything on your iPhone’s screen. I would make sure that you have a back up and once that is confirmed, I would recommend a restore by putting your iPhone into recovery mode. Once in recovery mode, iTunes will allow you to restore and once the restore is complete you can enter in your password to get passed Activation Lock

  • Dynadock U3.0 - after use - "Blue Screen" and System Restore required

    Hello,
Everytime after I used my new Dynadock U3.0 and I shut down the computer, a system restore is required when I use the computer again.
I use a Samsung 900X4B. Could it be the Notebook or is something wrong with the Dynadock?
What could be the problem? (I use the latest drivers)
    Thank you for helping.

    Thank you.
I tried to disconnect the Dynadock using the icon on the right side.
I installed the newest driver, including the displaylink softwarev 6.3.
I also dissabled the virus scanner.
However, evertime I restart the notebook the system needs to be repaired or restored.
I did not matter, if I left the USB-link attached or detached it after using the icon on the right side to shut down the dynadock.
    I tried all possible modulations.
Another dockingstation (USB2.0) is working fine. I also can remove or attach during work without problems.
    May be I miss something.
    Thank you.
