Blue Screen, computer not booting, please help!

Apologies if this question has been asked before, however I cannot see it anywhere.
I cannot get my computer to boot at all. When I turn my Macbook Pro on, it has the usual white screen with logo and underneath there is a loading bar. After around 5 mins when the bar is full, it changes to a blank blue screen and there's a circle that just spins round. This is as far as it gets. The blue screen remains.
I've tried carrying out some troubleshooting in the apple manual, I checked that it was a hardware issue but it said no issues found. I've tried to start the computer in safe mode (not sure why) but i'm at a loss.
I would appreciate anyones help if possible, I have only just had my iMac repaired and don't want to pay another small fortune sorting this one to.
Many thanks

Hey Princess,
Just went through this same scenario myself. I took it into the Genius Bar at a local Apple Store, and the only solution he knew of was to erase the hard drive (after determining that the hard drive wasn't indeed dying), then reinstall the OS, then for me to go home and update from my Time Capsule to replace files (which I hadn't backed up to for a couple of months *sad face*).
Anyhow - you may want to give the Genius Bar a try.
You could also start up from a DVD/OS to run any repairs using disk utility/First Aid to see if there might be some corrupt files that need replacing and see if that does it.
Good luck!

  • My iPhone will not turn on after a yet another blue screen of death. Please help!

As mentioned above, my phone will not turn on after a yet another blue screen of death. All of a sudden it turned off, and it wouldn't turn on for quite some time, even after I plugged it in the charger. It wasn't long after the screen turned on, but it only displayed a bright black. I decided to turn it on and off a few times. Nothing worked.
I have also tried to call the phone from another one. It was as if the phone was simply off.

  • Blue screen error code. Please help.

    late 2008 version.
Recently my school reinstalled windows 7 but after he did that, there was some blue screen error code which only appears while running on windows and everything is fine on the mac side.
He reinstalled windows 7 again but the blue screen error code started again. He said that it could be that my apple disc is not original which caused the error code, however last year they were able to installed windows 7 without any issue. He also said that it could be the hard drive problem.
Another problem I have is that while on windows the hard disk drives doesn't show the mac too.
Please help! Much appreciated if any of you can help me out.

Unless you run a VM such as Parallels, you're not going to be able to see your Mac disk using Boot Camp. If I were you, I'd see about getting Parallels Desktop and installing Windows 7 on it. You can then inter-operate with both systems.

  • Ibook will not boot PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Hi,
First the ibook booted then would come up with the kernel error: square box with "you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button......
I then booted to single user mode and ran fsck -y which eventually came up with the all clear "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK"
I then restarted the system which booted to the blue screen with some quirky graphics towards the top. It will now not boot into single user mode, just black screen or multi-coloured stripy screen. When booting from the CD drive the sceen is just blue or black.
Okay, I have connected the ibook via fire wire to a powerbook, and re-booted the ibook in terminal mode which brings up the fire wire connect symbol on screen.
After a while the system stalls showing part of the symbol and the connection is frozen. I have tried to re-install tiger using the powerbook to initiate as the ibook will not. However, it freezes at 50% of install.
I changed the ram to iliminate a ram failure, however... still the same.
While I was in terminal mode I erased the disk using the disk utility from the PB and then ran the install again... still froze.
This looks more serious than I thought. I'm now thinking that it could be the hard drive or worse. I have tried to use the apple support phone # and it does not seem to work, 1800 275 2273.
I'm having some real bad luck here. Any ideas?

I ran the apple hard ware test disc. The quick test found no errors. The extended test freezes up completely. Now I'm really stumed. The logic board came up with know errors.
When the system froze on the extended test. I falsed a re-boot. However the screen went black so I could not run the test again. It seems like a time thing... the ibook can only run for a short period before it freezes. Then it has to shut down for a while before it can run again

  • My macbook pro is not booting, please help me :(

    hello,
my macbook pro is not booting in OS X, it displays the apple logo and the spinning wheel, but a circle with a cross appears and the spinning wheel continues, please guys, help me
P.S: my MBP is boot camped

Well, sometimes you can gain access to the drive from another Mac connected to your computer via Firewire cable. It's called Target Disk Mode - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Or you already have backups. If you don't then you should consider a backup strategy to avoid this the next time it happens.
There are too many reasons for a drive to become corrupted within the normal course of use. A most common cause is abnormal shutdowns from power outages or not using the normal shutdown procedure because of a system lockup. Software glitches happen or you may be using software that is poorly written, and on and on.
    If don't have backups:
    Basic Backup
Get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • Maverick update now my login screen does not work please help.

Hello hope you can help.  I have a 24 inch Mid 2007 Intel iMac.  It has been great until now.  I recently did the Maverick update and now my login screen does not work.  When I wake the computer up the screen appars with my picture icon.  When I click on it nothing happens.  If I click on it a second or third time the beach ball appears and nothing happens.  I have to shut the unit down with the power button and when the unit powers back up everything works normally.  Are there any suggestions out there?  I have updated the software without resolution. Is this computer too old?   Do I have to buy a new one?
    Thank you

Your iMac can support Mavericks according to the requirements > OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
Try a Safe Mode boot. That deletes some system caches that may help.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
See if there's an improvement for the login screen.

  • Blue Screen 10.5.8 Please Help

From out of nowhere, I started my PM G5 and get to where the screen turns blue and it stays there rather than getting to the desktop. When it starts up, I don't hear the sound, but the gray screen shows up with the Apple logo and the black pin wheel spins (it takes much longer than normal, usually it will spin 20-30 times now it goes for 80-90 spins) then the blue screen shows up and instead of getting to the desktop, it stays at the blue screen. I've tried rebooting 4-5 times with the same result.
I am using 10.5.8 with all updates. I have even tried connecting an external hd and holding down the option key to start from that, but it won't allow the screen that shows the available hd's to start from to show up.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Bob

Well, one mystery solved and another new one.
I ma using a Samsung LCD tv/monitor using the DVI port and a separate audio connection from the monitor to the G5. When I connect the audio line from the monitor to my G5 and restart the G5, there is no chime, either for startup or if doing a PRAM reset. If I leave the audio line disconnected and do a restart, then the chime sounds at startup (the sound comes from the small speaker on the G5) as well as when I do a PRAM reset. What is perplexing is that with the audio line connected, it will play itunes music, QT videos, but will not allow the startup chime. With the audio line not connected, evrything including the chime works.
Is there a setting somewhere that is causing this.
    Thanks for your help.

Was working normally last night, this morning it was behaving strangely and barely responding. Wouldn't reboot, so I held down power button.
Now when it turns on it's stuck at the Apple logo with the spinning graphic. I hold Apple+V and see that it goes into this infinite loop where it says something crashed and saved the log to file.
I'm able to boot into Single User mode and I ran fsdk to no avail. Here is what the log says:

The mDNSResponder is a bonjour item associated with iTunes, Safari and other network stuff.
Sounds as if you have some corrupted files in the Frameworks area on the HD.
Can you boot into the Safe mode? That might disable the mDNSResponder.
Unplug all internet connections, all other unnecessary peripherals, especially USB devices and see if that helps.
I don't think your HD is beyond repair. Just some startup stuff is corrupted.
As suggested, DiskWarrior might also do the trick.

  • Re-Occurring Blue Screen~Dump files included~Please Help~Unable to verify timestamp for ntkrnlpa.exe

    Hello,
Starting yesterday I started getting the BSOD. I have uploaded my dump files to this dropbox account:
    www.dropbox.com/sh/w3ryago8pfcw2y2/AAAR5i6Crx5q-p--xdESJjnMa
There are lots of them as my PC crashed many times.
I attempted to analyze them with windbg but all I can see is:
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for ntkrnlpa.exe
Also I ran sfc /scannow and it found no integrity violations.
After the first BSOD I was barely able to get Windows to load without another immediate crash. I couldn't boot my PC last night but today seems okay so far. CPU temp was fine, actually quite cool as I had my window open right by the PC with the side off
the case and it was cold last night. Today, so far, seems to be running okay...so far anyways..
Windows update recently installed a driver for my on-board video card (Nvidia GeForce 6150n) on the 18th I think as I started using a 2nd monitor using the on-board card in addition to my PCI Express Ati Radeon HD. To use the second screen, I switched
the primary video in CMOS to on-board instead of PCI-E 16x so the on-board Nvidia card would be enabled.
I also installed brand new ram (4gb DDR2) about a month ago
and a new power supply 2 months ago. The power supply is not "exactly" the same voltage as the one that was in there but it's dang close. But I don't have any power leeching components.
Other than that nothing new has happened. After I got the crash, I tried to enter CMOS yesterday and it glitched out on me twice. I hope it's not my motherboard..
I am willing to do a system re-format as I am running Windows 7 32bit on a 64bit AMD so I wouldn't mind having 64 bit Windows anyways but I'd like to know what the problem is before I do this. Thank you.

    Hi,
All of the attached DMP files are of the
    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124) bug check.
A fatal hardware error has occurred. This fatal error displays data from the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).
If we run an !errrec on the 2nd parameter of the bug check (address of the WER structure) we get the following:
    BugCheck 124, {0, 867d2024, b2000010, 10c0f}
    ===============================================================================

    Severity : Fatal
    Error : BUSLG_OBS_ERR_*_NOTIMEOUT_ERR (Proc 0 Bank 4)
    Status : 0xb200001000010c0f
This is a pretty complicated error compared to other possibilities it could have been, as it implies you have a hardware fault somewhere along the bus (not very definitive on its own).
In our case however, we can go a bit deeper with this one:
    0: kd> .formats 0xb200001000010c0f
    Evaluate expression:
    Hex: b2000010`00010c0f
    Decimal: -5620492266238833649
    Octal: 1310000001000000206017

    Float: low 9.61613e-041 high -7.45059e-009
    Double: -7.41853e-068
Now that we have this info, we'd refer to the AMD manual:
    63 VAL Valid
    62 OVER Status Register Overflow
    61 UC Uncorrected Error
    60 EN Error Condition Enabled
    59 MISCV Miscellaneous-Error Register Valid
    58 ADDRV Error-Address Register Valid
    57 PCC Processor-Context Corrupt
    56–32 Other Information
    31–16 Model-Specific Error Code
    15–0 MCA Error Code
In our specific case, bit 63 of the status code is set, so it is valid. Bit 62 of the status code is
unset, therefore there's no overflow. Bit 61 implies an uncorrected error has occurred, and Bit 60 implies an error condition was enabled. Last but not least, Bit 57 is
set and implies a corrupted processor context.
If we take a look at the last 15 bits of the binary:
    Binary: [trimming] 00001100 00001111
In our case, the MSB in binary (00001100 ), implies a bus error occurred (as I mentioned above). We need to further decode the bits to understand more:
    [0000]1100 00001111
    0000 = 1PPT RRRR IILL.
    PP = Participation Processor, T = Timeout,
    R = Memory Transaction Type, I = Memory and/or I/O, and finally
    L = Cache Level.
With this said, it appears we actually have a faulty motherboard as the processor seems fine, etc. The only other thing I see possible is bad RAM, which you can figure out whether or not is the case by running no less than ~8 passes of Memtest:
    Memtest86+:
    Download Memtest86+ here:
    http://www.memtest.org/
    Which should I download?
You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary
files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).
Do note that some older generation motherboards do not support USB-based booting, therefore your only option is CD (or Floppy if you really wanted to).
    How Memtest works:
Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.
The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns and test data. A tenth test, bit fade, is selectable from the menu. It writes all memory with zeroes, then sleeps for 90 minutes before checking to see if bits have changed (perhaps because
of refresh problems). This is repeated with all ones for a total time of 3 hours per pass.
Many chipsets can report RAM speeds and timings via SPD (Serial Presence Detect) or EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles), and some even support changing the expected memory speed. If the expected memory speed is overclocked, Memtest86 can test that memory performance
is error-free with these faster settings.
Some hardware is able to report the "PAT status" (PAT: enabled or PAT: disabled). This is a reference to Intel Performance acceleration technology; there may be BIOS settings which affect this aspect of memory timing.
This information, if available to the program, can be displayed via a menu option.
Any other questions, they can most likely be answered by reading this great guide here:
