  • Blue Screen on a k9a2 Platinum

My computer is blue screening on a fresh install of Windows Vista.  Vista installs perfect and starts perfect.  But after I install a usb device such as a wireless adapter, a PCI to PCI Bridge driver gets installed.  It then wants me to restart my computer.  After I restart, it blue screens.  Any help will be greatly affected.

Don't think the Vista install was perfect. That is, if you don't like blue-screens more than I do.
    This said in general:
Have only what is needed for the install. Add things later. That helps the installation. It also helps the possible troubleshooting afterwards. - Yes, I know it is tempting when building a new system to move all old and new stuff in at once, but be strong.

  • MSI K9A2 Platinum + Phenom 9600 + 2GB Mushkin XP8500 cannot boot into windows

    Hi!
I am building my computer using the Spider platform and I ran across problems during booting into windows.
I am using MSI K9A2 platinum with Phenom 9600 and Mushkin 2Gb kit XP8500 ddr2 1066. I have no problem installing windows xp.
The problem starts when I install the utility and drivers that come on a cd from MSI, my computer requests to re-boot after installation and after
that it will not boot into windows. I can get to the windows logo and then the system reboots right away.
I checked the bios and it shows that the ram is running at 800mhz and i have tried running with just 1 stick and im getting the same problem every time.
Anyone knows how to resolve this?
    thanks!

Everything is stable now...I guess installing the driver from the MSI website is the best thing to do right now
I notice that my ram is underclocked to 800mhz instead of 1066mhz...I have update the motherboard BIOS to v1.2 and i checked that the ram is running on unganged mode...I tried adjusting the spd to 5-5-4-12 with voltage of 2.2v as suggested by the mushkin ram itself
    Any idea?
"I have update the motherboard BIOS to v1.2 and i checked that the ram is running on unganged mode..."
    That is the correct mode.
"I notice that my ram is underclocked to 800mhz instead of 1066mhz..."
1066 is not officially certified by JEDEC, also your memory probably don't have SPD configuration for that freq.
Contact to Mushkin for more details.

    Yep
    "Everything is stable now.."

  • MSI K9A2 Platinum stopped working

    Hi, guys.
    I have
    MSI K9A2 Platinum
    AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core
    Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 1GB
    Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 4GB * 2
and been using it fine for quite some time. I was dabbling in 3DS Max and left a big render job on overnight. The next day my system was dead. When I press the power button the CPU fan spins for 1 second and the LEDs flash on and off. I read these forums and came across this thread: http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=113170.0. The exact same problem. And he fixed it by replacing the PSU. So I thought I should give it a try and replaced my Chieftech 550W with an XFX 650W, but the problem persists. I am thinking it is the CPU since it happened during a render. Any thoughts?
    regards
    Kevin

Hmm, sounds eeriely familiar to me... what happens if you disconnect the 4pin CPU power connector? Does the fan stay spinning, and the LEDs on the board stay illuminated (but system still does not POST)?
I had a K9A2 Platinum board for some time, and the same thing happened to me... tried different PSU, CPU and RAM, but it turned out to be a problem with the board's voltage regulator, and I ended up replacing the board...

  • MSI K9A2 Platinum Phenom 9550 slow as hell

    hi guyz
i just recently put 2gether a new rig at long last, not as grand as some i've seen on AMDzone but its a good start. i was using an old Athlon XP which is far too slow to run pinnacle 12 (video editing s/w) hence the new upgrade. after purchasing the phenom 9550 i was expecting to fly, i mean compared to my Athlon who wldn't. i stuck with XP although i play games vista is too system hungrey so i've heard. anywayz after getting my rig up installing the latest sp3, m/b drivers, bios upgrade the whole works, the performance was almost the same as my Athlon which really freak me out. i splash so much on the new rig n got my old Athlon back
i've chk on AMDzone n haven't really got any sold solution. i've email to AMD n they replied telling me all the things a newbee wld get confused on. even during boot up is slow, i remove all those fancy interface (graphics) stop all those unwanted staff in services n startup is very minimal. when i start pinnacle for example its real slow. i saw on youtube a guy who showedoff his 9550 n it was flying nothing like mine. i wld appreciate if any wld has any suggestion as to what might b my problem...

prince_terry ,this was my first impression too, in the first month.
After i installed all drivers in the proper order  ,after i assured the RAM is in dual channel ,after i have put the SATA HDD at SATA 1 specs (to make the computer boot up faster ),after i updated to latest BIOS -es ( the video and mobo) ,the computer started to be what it should have been.
Make sure you have good drivers for the SB 600 ( if your HDD is conected to its SATA ports) ,in XP SP 3 you should use older drivers ,that are not available on the MSI website at this moment (there were available somewhere in the 2008 spring-summer).The package available now doesnt have the PATA drivers(IDE emulation) and this may show poor performance for the drive in games(choppyness).
On the other hand the 9550 is inferior, in my opinion ,to a X2 6400+.Sure 6400+ is only dual core ,but there is a lot of software that doesnt know what a quad is.
Also make sure you disable Cool and Quiet in BIOS options and HPET option (recomended OFF for XP) and in On Chip SATA BIOS section under Integrated Peripherals make sure PCI IDE Busmaster option is on (a legacy option that will speed up Windows installation for ex.).
Also a poor PSU with low voltages may lead to same poor performance, check the voltages (with a digital multimeter) and make sure they are in spec.
do u hv any good location for the SB600 that i can download from. all my bio update r from MSI website. C&Q has been disable will look into the rest n let u knw the outcome. thanks

  • MSI k9a2 platinum trouble

I came home from work yesterday after installing a vista update on shutdown. turned the computer on and walked away. came back and it was blank everything was seemingly on but nothing on the screen. So I had to do a hard reset. Took a few times but finally I got a screen telling me that something on the north bridge I believe (bad recollection of what was on there I was tired and angry) failed due to overclocking... now I had tried to overclock this motherboard a LONG time ago. results were undesirable so I reset it back to factory defaults and uninstalled the overclocking software that came with it. now I was just playing some games and had a critical error (no time to read it) that resulted in the PC not booting up at all no beep no post just turns on everything spins but it seems like it is in a perpetual loop of restarts.. any and all help would be great. Email me if you know how to fix it or if you know for sure I am screwed.
seems like just the video card is resetting nothing else slows and speed up besides that

  • Is new MSI K9A2 Platinum DOA?

Bought a new MSI K9A2 Platinum Version 1 MOBO off eBay, installed with spacers between board and case and installed my current hardware. Power came on but, pc would not post. Monitor kept showing no signal, power and HD LED came on for 1 to 2 seconds and Green and White LEDs on MB came on and stayed on. So I cleared CMOS, took out one video card and NIC so was pretty much down to bare minimum, one video card, one stick ram, CPU, HD (SATA) and MOBO but, still suffered same issue. Is MOBO DOA?
    Existing Hardware from my PC:
Antec Neopower 500 (500 watts) power supply
    AMD Athlon X2 6000+ (3.02 GHz) (Windsor, 90nm, AM2 (940))
Cooler Master Aquagate Viva CPU Liquid Cooling System
    2 x 1 GB RAM Mushkin: (XP2-8500, Part Number: 996535)
    1066MHz Latency: 5-5-4-12 Parity: Unbuffered
    Voltage: 2.2-2.35V Pins: 240
    Module: 128Mx64 Chip: 64x8
2 X ATI Radeon 1950 GT running in Crossfire mode (installed both cards in dark blue ports)
    Fujitsu 300 GB HD SATA
    Sony DVD RW
    Bigfoot NIC model: Killer M1
ATX Case with 4 X 90 MM Case fans
Initially thought could be the video cards but, owner's guide and MSI Tech Support state that K9A2 can support up to 16X, so I assume that also means it support PCIe 1.0 as well as PCIe 2.0.
Have read on MSI forum that power could be the issue but, tend to believe if I take it down to bare minimum (CPU, CPU Cooler, 1 Stick of Ram, 1 Video Card, HD (SATA), 2 X 90mm case fans and MOBO)  that it should have booted up at the point.

    Thanks in advance

    Boombox,
Good morning and thanks for putting my concerns to rest, like I said before, I have to upgrade a part at time.  Next piece is AMD Phenom II X4 955 (hopefully gets here NLT Tuesday) with RAM I purchased last month and did not want to fry them first time I boot up the system.   Plus I am on Day 2 since switch out of my K9A and still no issues
Also I must weigh in on MSI's RMA process, overall the process is pretty smooth, my issue is with the replacement MOBO.  Guess after they tested my old MOBO (NEW OUT OF THE BOX), they had to replace it.  Replacement board was USED (assuming until failure by previous owner) and had some "Cosmetic issues", 1. Copper Cooling tube is slightly crushed not sure what that does to air flow and 2.  Half of the IDE pins were bent, I can't see thing in front of me, so I had to take a digital picture of IDE plug and blow up so I could see which way to bend them back.  Figure there would be some sort of QC before return but, guess not......
Assuming since it all relates to this post, once I install CPU and RAM will let those that have taken time out of their day to help me, know what my latest status is.  Again Thanks to all of you, hopefully I can pay back your help in the future.

  • I have a MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard. Bios version 1.8 overclocking

I have a MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard. Bios version 1.8
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0 GHZ that I have over clocked to (17.5) 3.4Ghz
However anytime I go over that to say multiplyer set to 18 (3.5 ghz) it still runs but crashes when running high end games. I know I have to go in an adjust voltages. However, in the cell menu I can't access the CPU voltage areas I hit enter but nothing happens. It tells me Grey is defualt, White is stable and red is the obvious not recommended setting, but again I can't access it.  Is there something I need to disable before I mess with the voltages?
I know that doing any of this could fry the chip I have liquid cooling pretty much this idles at 28 deg Celcuis, that is with it over clocked so I know I have som room and know I should only up the vltage slightly. I just need to know how to do it.
I also wanted to adjust the FSB from the current 200 to 270 which I was told is possible with this board and also that is where it should run stable. Again I just need to know how to access these things in the Bios. If its a bios issue I can update to the next one,1.9, but did not see the need to do so. Anyways any help is greatly appreciated. I am familar with overclocking just not with this motherboard. Any user who uses MSI who could offer assitance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello,
With the above configuration, I get no beeps nor video display when powering on the PC.  When PC is powered on, CPU fan spins, GPU fan spins, HD makes noise, butcannot power off via power button.  GPU and PSU work fine with another system, as well as the HD.  Tried booting with 1 stick of RAM and changing slot placement - no success.  Tried booting with minimum devices attached - no success.
I had the same problem with the same board and I obtained an RMA, after experiencing the same problem with the new board I am under the impression that something is wrong with my hardware setup.
Thank you very much for any suggestions, I've been messing around with the PC for weeks and can't seem to find/produce a solution.  Is it possible I may need to file another RMA?

You know, I would agree with you, but the memory is a PC-8500 kit, rated at ddr2-1066, thus I'm not actually overclocking them. I'm attempting to just clock them, if you will, rather than run them underclocked. Happy new year, btw!
Yes you are. That's heavy OC settings:

Okay, got my compy workin again! Lo and behold, it wasn't the board after all. My sincerest apologies. Ordered new ram, OCZ Platinum DDR2-1066 2x2 Gb, plugged it in, and the machine fired right up. There was much rejoicing.
Anyway, I have a new problem:
Before my compy died, I had the CPU and RAM overclocked to 3.2 GHz and 1066 MHz, respectively. Worked great. Now, however, I cannot get my system to POST when I try to overclock it to those speeds. The fastest I can get it stable is 3.192GHz, with the following settings:
    CPU FSB: 266
    HT Ratio: x4
    CPU Mult: x12
    CPU Freq: 3192 MHz
RAM set at 5-5-5-15, FSB/Mem 1:1.66, Adjusted DDR frequency 1064, CPU-Z says 1058, no biggie.
    CPU Voltage: 1.399 V
    RAM Voltage: 2.2 V
    Here's the settings I try for 3.2GHz and 1066:
    CPU FSB: 320
    HT: x4
    CPU Mult: x10
RAM still at 5-5-5-15, for 1066MHz
No go at all. Spread Spectrum disabled, Cool N Quiet disabled
    Thanks!
"I'm attempting to just clock them, if you will, rather than run them underclocked. "
Only AM2+ CPU can support 1066.
You use "AMD 5000+ BE", support 800.
    Main Memory
    • Supports Dual DDR2 533/667/800/1066 (1066 for AM2+ only)
    - 4 DDR2 DIMMs (240pin / 1.8V)
    - Supports a maximum memory size up to 8GB.

  • BootMGR missing (with a twist) MSI K9a2 Platinum

Hey guys I am new here, and I apologize for bringing up a problem with millions of tutorials but I am yet to find one that applies to my specific case.
So I turned my computer off last night, and attempted to turn it on this morning... Btw I am dual booting with Windows 7 64 Ultimate, and then on some partion somewhere I have Windows 7 RC. I will attempt to describe the scenario with these pictures:
So I couldn't' embed the images properly, so here is the album:
    http://img836.imageshack.us/g/img1657q.jpg/
The first two pictures are without the Windows 7 Disk inserted. And notice at the starup repair screen, there is no HDD detected, however at boot without the Windows 7 disk, both of my HDDs are detected.
    My system:
    Msi K9a2 Platinum
WD 500gb @ 7500RPM (I understand my main copy of windows is installed here)
    WD raptor @ 10000RPM
    nVidia Gtx260
    850w PSW
    samsung DVD-RW drive
    Audigy sound card
    AMD ahtlon 6400+ dual core
I also put the driver CD that came with the motherboard into my PC when I was in the windows repair screen. I attempted to search for some sort of driver, but no luck..
I am sorry and thank you!
    Luke

Thanks for the link to the drivers!
I have burned them to a disk an attempted to load them during the windows start-up recovery. But when I press "Load Drivers" and search the CD (with the given drivers) I cannot find a file that will work.. When I click on a given file, windows says something along the lines of "This file cannot be used".
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

  • Msi K9a2 platinum with memory

    Dear,
I have bought a MSI K9a2 platinum with a AMD Phenom 9600. I have placed 2 sets of these memory G.E.I.L GX22GB6400UDC4. In the manual they said that I have to change the memory settings in the bios to run at 4-4-4-12.
When I look in the bios, I see a lot of memory settings to change. Which one do I need to change to run at these settings?
    Thanks,
    Rafael

    1. If 40 represents tRC (which it probably does not): it's too high. Set this value to Auto in your BIOS, and set tRC to 20 or 21.
    2. You can't, there isn't any setting for it. But since you have four sticks of memory that fill up all of the DIMMs, there is no other option than to run it in dual channel. Software might detect it as single channel because of the Unganged Mode setting, which creates two separate 64 bit channels (but is obviously still dual channel)...

  • Blue screen error 1gdpmd64.sys

I have a hp pavillion g7 notebook computer which keeps getting a bsod crash each time internet graphics are accessed.  i have researched the error code and it seems to be a graphics driver issue.  I downloaded a new version of the amd graphics driver from the hp website support and i tried to restore the computer to a previous point in time when the bsod was not occuring.  All to no avail.  the webpage graphics are not able to be displayed and the blue screen error keeps returning.  In the device manager section of the computer, none of the icons are showing issues and i can't figure out what could be causing the problem.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  thanks

  • Blue screen errors

I have read through some of the Blue Screen error discussions but they are different to mine.  I am experiencing a Blue screen error, quite often, several times a week - sometimes twice in one day.  Sometimes when starting up, sometimes whilst in the middle of doing something - which can be anything from writing an email to browsing the internet.  I do not play games on my computer.  I have tried taking the computer back to factory settings incase it was one of my photo packages but it is still happening.  Can anyone help?  It does say about trying the "disenable Bios memory - caching/shadowing.  I was going to try this as a last resort but cannot seem to find where the option is to turn it off.  Maybe someone can help with this.  I have an HP Pavilion desktop and I have tried going into the advance settings before start-up where it should be listed but can't seem to find it there...
any ideas, help would be much appreciated.

  • MSI K9A2 Platinum + ocz 1066 runs 800mhz?!?

Ive tried all i can do to get this memory to run at proper speeds. I updated the bios to the most current version 1.6. I tried setting the voltage and latency settings in there manually. The ratio button does not give me a option higher that 1:2. It makes the memory run at 800mhz. Im not the first to have this problem as i have googled and found many with the same problem yet i haven't come across a solution that helps me.

Might want to help out a provider of your motherboards from receiving future negative feedback and have them correct the way they display the memory standard. To those that don't research a board from the providers site. I feel deceived and i don't think i will use a msi product ever again. But thats all talk and if the price is right i might. Im just a little pissed off about this. Know of anything that can get it to 1066? why does it only work with am2+?

"I feel deceived and i don't think i will use a msi product ever again. But thats all talk and if the price is right i might. Im just a little pissed off about this."
That's pure no sense. As i already told you that has nothing to do with the mainboard.
Newegg is not MSI problem, but there is listed correctly too. Board can support 1066 memory sticks.
As you can see you are currently use 1066 memory sticks without problem,
at what frequency will they run that's another story and do not depend from the mainboard, but from the CPU used.
"Know of anything that can get it to 1066? why does it only work with am2+?"
Because the CPU works in that way. Memory controller integrated in the CPU can works at 800 max.
For 1066, you need latest AM2+ generation CPU which memory controller support 1066.
For more info you can ask AMD or to read AMD Tech docs.
