Blue Screen Freeze, Not related to the old one?

I recently bought my Macbook Pro 15 inch (early 2008 model) in april of 2008. I have had it for the greatest year of my life. Though today, i had my first problem with it. I was online with about 4-5 applications running (normal) and it froze. The pinwheel showed up. I just thought to myself that it would be a regular restart and reboot kind of deal. So i pressed the button and it shut off right away. Usually i hold it for 4-6 seconds. That was the first weird thing. I start up my mac again and it won't start up. It freezes at a dark (in lightness) light blue screen. It gets to the part where it shows the apple but won't bring me to my login access code. I tried removing the battery and putting it back in. I tried holding option. I tried holding the power button. I tried holding C and i tried to wait. I left my house around 2pm for work and got back at 1am and i tried it again. It still is doing the same problem. I do not know what is wrong. This mac is my baby. I need any suggestions or advice in troubleshooting this bad boy. Thank you!

Hi asd31;
Do you regularly shutdown by pressing the button?
If so there is a good chance you have managed to corrupt the disk so bad it is no longer usable.
You say you held down the C, did you have the install DVD that came with your Mac in the drive?
If not, then it was not able to start from the install DVD. I would suggest putting the install DVD into the drive and trying to start it again with C held down.

  • After update IOS from 6.0 to 7.1, my Apple Id cannot access to my Iphone due to the Apple ID that comment on IOS 7.0.2 was not matched to the old one.

I have gotten the problem after updated IOS to version 7.0.2.  I signed up my IPhone with su* @pttplc.com as Apple ID via older IOS version and can use it normally but after I update the IOS version from 6.0 to 7.0.2, the Apple ID that commented on my IPhone is sx* @pxxxxx.com. It look like that the number of alphabet in Apple Id is not matched. The new one is less than the old one so I cannot log in my IPhone. After that I try asking for the new password but the new password was not send to su* @pttplc.com but send to my reserve e-mail instead. Please help me to fix the problem ASAP due to I cannot access IPhone for 2 month already.
Please suggest the solution to reset my IPhone to normal. Please advise ASAP. Thanks in advance.

  • New ipod not doing what the old one did

I just received my new 6 Gen nano replacement in the recall. I think it's great of Apple to give me a brand-new ipod in exchange for an old one, but.....something isn't right. The first problem I found was that the new nano doesn't store tracks within playlists in the same order as in iTunes. I tried 'Copy to play order' both on the iTunes smart playlist and on the playlist after uploading it to nano, but the nano lists things bunched together in groups, with newer files first - no good for listening to eg radio dramas with multiple episodes that need to be listened to in order. Then I tried making a new smart playlist with the contents of the original smart playlist, but that copies onto nano in reverse order. So I tried reversing the order of the new playlist, but the order in nano doesn't change, which is weird.
All I want is a playlist that lets me listen to stuff in the order I want to listen to it in, without having to stop what I'm doing at the end of each track to manually select the next one. Is that not possible with the 6 Gen nano? And if not Why On Earth Not? I would have thought it was a pretty basic function.
Another problem is that play count seems to have disappeared. I set up my smart playlist to include only files with a play count of 0, so that when I connect the nano, things I have already listened to are updated and automatically removed from the playlist. Yet all the stuff I listened to yesterday is still marked as not having been played.
I would have assumed that a newer model would be easier/more convenient to use than an older one, but this is definitely several steps backward - or is there something wrong with my new nano?

OK, after lots of messing around I finally got a playlist to play in the right order.
First, automatic sync doesn't work, it has to be manual which is a bind.
The smart playlist I want to listen to has tracks selected by genre, plus 0 plays, arranged in order manually. No matter what I do, I can't get this playlist to behave as I want.
I created another smart playlist selected by 'playlist is the other playlist'. I select 'copy to play order' on this playlist, manually upload it to the nano and select 'copy to play order' on it in nano too. The playlist has an exclamation mark next to it indicating that it is not linked to an existing playlist. Ignore.
Sync the nano, and the playlist is in the correct order.
Play count still seems to be a bit iffy, though. Stuff I know I've listened to stil shows up with 0 plays.
Please Apple, make the software for the 6 Gen as user-friendly as it was for the 1st-gen. With that everything was automatic.

  • Black screen issue - likely not related to the GPU, but i am concerned

3 times in the last two weeks i've turned on my MBP, the startup screen lights up, the sound goes and it gets to the blue screen. all of a sudden the screen goes black, but i can still faintly see the desktop if i shine some light onto the screen. the first time it happened, i restarted and everything was fine. the second time it happened, i pressed the increase screen brightness key to see if anything would happen and the screen came back on (it went from the first notch to about half). the same thing happened the third time (which just happened about 10 minutes ago).
anyone know why my screen brightness would randomly set itself to the lowest setting at start up? is this a sign of my GPU failing? is this a sign that my inverter board is dying?
i have applecare, so i'm not worried about having to take it in for repair. i'm not entirely sure if there would be any way of reproducing it as it seems to happen randomly.

Whatever the cause is, it will likely not fix itself, but continue to get worse over time. You could try running the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test to see if anything turns up.
Since you're under warranty, you might want to go ahead and report the problem to Apple and maybe get a case number. Very likely the problem will slowly get worse until it happens so frequently that it will predictably happen when the computer is started up. Apple would probably like to see the problem occur before doing a repair.
Of course if you get an error code from the AHT, you would have something concrete to report.
There have been some problems with the GeForce 8600M GT chipset specifically. You might want to check in the system profiler to see if you have this particular chipset.
It could also be a problem with your inverter board or possibly the cable.
    Good luck!

  • Blue screen when attempting to use the dedicated video card

I keep getting a blue screen when attempting to use the dedicated video card.
I managed to install the AMD driver for it but without the other components like the Catalyst Control Center as it blue screened on startup when attempting to load the Catalyst Control Center.
The OS loads fine. Any applications that don't use the dedicated video card runs fine. All other drivers install fine as well.
Applications like games and Photoshop that switch to the dedicated video card on startup automatically crashes, the OS freezes then a blue screen appears.
What could be causing the problem? This problem just recently appeared. Two weeks ago.

I tried installing the drivers for my laptop from HP's support site. Still the same result.
This problem only appeared a few weeks ago. Before that, the same drivers from the HP site installed and functioned normally.
Could this be a problem with the graphics card itself?
Note sure but if we can know the system P/N others can look to see what drivers it has for the graphics to know what is there.

  • IMac will only safe boot (blue screen when not safe booting).

A buddy asked me to help with his Intel based iMac. It was giving a blue screen when trying to boot up (and an odd cursor along with the blue screen). The cursor moves around the blue screen but looks like two cursors. One cursor is a normal arrow pointer, the second is a rectangle about .25 inch wide and 1 inch tall made up of about 10 horizontal lines.
I'm very familiar with Macs and OS X and was sure it was probably a messed up preference file (most likely login preference). It wasn't.
    Here's the odd circumstances:
I have an intel macbook that if I use firewire target disk mode I can boot just fine off his iMac.
His computer will not boot off my Macbook that is in firewire target disk mode.
We cloned his hard drive to an external firewire hard drive (using Carbon Copy Cloner), my Macbook boots off it just fine, his iMac will not.
He's been wanting to go to Leopard so we upgraded his computer (did basic upgrade), but it still blue screened (with odd cursor).
Then we did an erase and install. Still no difference in behavior.
I would almost be convinced that it's a hardware failure, but it will safe boot every time.
Here's what happened when it died. His son was playing a Star Wars game (I'm not sure which one). The kid was in the middle of the game and paused it when it was time for dinner. When the kid went back to play, the computer was frozen. They tried everything to unfreeze it and ended up powering it down. Started the blue screen ever since.
He's going to contact Apple (it's barely still under it's warranty) but I was hoping someone here has another idea what it could be.

I found this topic while trying to find an answer to my problem. It seems we have a similar thing going on with our imacs (although mine is a much older crt imac). I'll copy and paste my original post from the imac board :
    Hi
I received a free imac snow (G3 500mhz) from someone. He told me it was broke, and someone told him the logic board needed to be replaced.
I brought it home and tried to start it up. It gave the '?' folder icon. I started up from an OS 9.1 cd - Success! Except there was no HD. I opened it up and discovered that the HD wasn't connect to the ATA cable. I was able to start up to a previously installed Tiger. Except once it booted it would quickly freeze - the mouse pointer would turn into a scrambled beach ball (very strange) and wouldn't move.
I did some research and found about the potential problem with OS X and the imac's firmware. I restarted from the 9.1 CD and installed that OS. Everything seemed fine and was running ok (from my limited time on it). I then DL'd the latest firmware for the imac (4.1.9.) and tried to run it. Except the message came up that the latest firmware had already been installed. So i guess thats a good thing. I don't have to worry about firmware being a problem.
So i did a zero out wipe on the HD and installed tiger from the dvd. But on the first restart after installation (where i should go to the set up assistant) I get the scrambled beach ball and it freezes.
I thought perhaps the HD is faulty and ran disk utility on it - it came back as fine. I doubled checked to make sure it was set to 'master'. it sure was. I decided to swap out the HD anyways since i can't see what else could be the problem and put in a different 30gb IDE drive. I once again zeroed out the drive and did a fresh install of tiger. On restart i get the same scrambled beach ball and the freeze.
I guess i should describe the scrambled beach ball. It's seems like the beach ball icon, except the bits that make it up are out of order and glitched out.. perhaps a video problem?
Could this really be a logic board problem? It was working in OS 9.1 fine. It starts up from system CDs and DVDs fine. Wouldn't a logic board exhibit the same problems on those systems?
    Anyone have any idea?
Update - starting in Safe mode (restart with shift held down) works, and i was able to update to the latest version of Tiger, but once i restart with the full system i get the same problem.
This seems to me that it ISN'T a logic board problem, but more of a system software problem. Now my question is how do i isolate and fix the problem in Tiger?
I guess i'll post this question in the Tiger forum, but if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Blue screen freeze!!

Product: mid 2010 iMac desktop (sorry pretty useless info - I am at work and can't remember!)
So the issue is that my computer has been absolutely fine and speedy up until switching it on last night when it remained frozen on a blue screen.
After quickly pressing the power button off and on it brought up my desktop where the mouse was able to be moved however everything was frozen. After a while it started to work as normal then froze with the spinning wheel of DOOM.
Whenever I turn it off and on it just freezes on either the white or blue screen.
I tried putting it into recovery and typing in some stuff I found online to no avail. Then I attempted to press cmd+r again another time but nothing happened!
Any ideas on how to solve this?? - it was all so sudden!
I would be eternally grateful to whoever can help!
    Thanks,
    Karen

On startup Mac Pro I get a blue screen and a cursor on the upper left. The mouse cursor shows up independently. Is it likely a video card failure?

I managed to boot the computer and get the desktop to show. I now have a "repaired" computer. There are several problems that have cropped up. One is that I can only start up now in Safe Boot mode. Is there a way to turn it off? Also, I do not have a sound list, so I can't access anything requiring audio. Google Chrome only shows up as a white screen. Pictures that loaded before don't load in browsers, etc. Any suggestions? I figure I should reinstall Mac OS Lion for starts, maybe even do a mirror backup and reformat the drive. I think this drive has turned into scrambled eggs...what a headache!

If your "older" MBA has a Thunderbolt port then it isn't that old. See Target Disk Mode about how it's used. Note that without a monitor you won't be able to tell from the screen when it has fully started, and if it succeeded in starting in TDM. If it did, then the hard drive should appear on the Desktop of your new computer. You can then access it to transfer your files. You can even use Migration Assistant or any backup utility to transfer data. Just don't try to transfer system files.

I transferred my library to a new laptop and everything appeared on the screen. I turned off the old computer and the library disappeared. How can I make it a permanent transfer as my old computer is being scrapped. Thanks

    Hello Terryfrank,
Congratulations on your new laptop!  Also, thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with transferring your iTunes Library to your new computer.
I notice that you are coming from the article “iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer,” and it sounds like you might have used the Home Sharing method outlined in that article.
With Home Sharing, you can stream content from another computer, and it sounds like that is how you have it currently set up.  The last step is to import the content to your new computer.  Use these steps on the new computer (while the old computer is on) to import the music to your new computer’s hard drive:
Once your new computer sees the Home Share from your old computer, click that Home Share on the left side of iTunes on your new computer.
Select the content in the Home Share that you want to transfer to your iTunes library on your new computer, or choose Edit > Select All to choose all of it. Then, click the Import button in the bottom-right corner of iTunes.
Wait for the content to finish transferring.
Additionally, if you want to transfer your playlists, you can export them from the old computer to the new computer:
    Transferring playlists
If you want not only your content but also your playlists to exist on your new computer, you will want to transfer a copy of all your playlists from your old computer. To do this, choose File > Library > Export Library on your old computer. Save the XML file that is created to your desktop.
Send the playlists file to yourself as an e-mail attachment, use an external drive, or use file sharing to move the playlists file to your new computer. Once the file is on your new computer, open iTunes and choose File > Library > Import Playlist. The import process will remove any items from the playlists that you didn't share via Home Sharing.
