  • MSI X99 SLI Plus - Blue Screen at Log In

After my $2000 computer died, I rebuilt using a new MSI x99 SLI plus motherboard, 5820k cpu, and ddr4 2600 for $1100.
    It has been 18 days.
I was questioning the motherboard since the beginning since USB devices seemed to go in and out as if they were being plugged in in the middle of working, but I got around most of the problems by not allowing the PC to go into sleep mode.
This morning I wake up and go to check my email and the computer does a wake-up that is different. The bios screen comes up and then I see "resuming windows..." It gets to the log in screen and I enter my credentials. A few seconds later blue screen and reboot.
I try safe mode - log in, blue screen, reboot
I try system restore to a week ago - log in, blue screen, reboot
The store is not going to take any components back, they have a 15 day return policy and it has been 18 days. Nice!
I am not sure whether or not I can really say it is the motherboard. Maybe it is the GPU, who knows?
Anyone know of a way that I can get the details of that blue screen when I cannot even log into safe mode to look?
What kind of troubleshooting would you try?
I am ready to swallow a shotgun.

a roll back may have fixed it but it just depends when it was last updated! - i mean when was the last time that image you where trying to roll back to last updated was it before your problem started?
Everything was working as of 4:00am Central Time Today (11/7/12).
Blue Screens after log in started as of 9:30am Central Time Today.
There has been no windows update between 4:00am and 9:30am today that I am aware of.
The rollback to restore point was to 11/4/14, which would go well beyond any update if one did occur, which it couldn't without my clicking the install updates button manually.
There was no new hardware installed and no new driver updates done between yesterday and today. I played a few games and went to bed :p

a blue screen when windows trys to start is usually it running the drive in the wrong mode: enter your BIOS - go to settings - advanced - integrated Perifirals - SATA mode (see if that is in AHCI mode)
I'll double check the BIOS in a bit when I get home from work, but again, I don't see how the BIOS setting would change all by themselves, unless there was a power outage or surge. Neither of those occurred.
I think all signs are pointing to hardware failure. Either the motherboard, GPU, or RAM.
I'll do a memory test and if that doesn't shed light, a reinstall of Windows, if that doesn't fix it, I'm RMAing.

  • Blue screen when logging into windows server 2008 r2

when logging into windows server 2008 r2, all I have is a blue screen and the mouse.
I tried looking for solutions on the internet, then I found a microsoft hotfix "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2590550" I run the hotfix in command line but it gave me nothing, no error or success messages.
I tried to reboot but I still have the same problem.
Is there any solution to this problem ??

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Did you face this issue during remote session or console session?
In addition, have you try to change or install any driver\software which cause this problem?
Have you use any debugging tools from Microsoft to find respective error cause?
You can refer following article for memory dump.

    Hope it helps!

  • Blue screen hangs logging in as main user (tried extensive troubleshooting)

My systems state has been progressively declining...
First symptoms: while using my external FW drive, under heavy read/write use the drive would unexpectedly unmount, giving the "unmount your drive before disconnecting it to avoid data loss" message.
I ran DiskWarrior on the external drive. It still would unmount. Somewhere online I read that zapping the PRAM may fix it. I did that. That's when things got bad.
My computer began beachballing all over the place, so I rebooted. Full disclosure: it's been running slow sometimes due to the SOHO Sync process (I am running the SOHO Notes 5.7.0 beta, and I haven't ruled out this software as the culprit). Upon reboot, it would hang on a blank blue (aqua) screen - after the gray screen but before the login window or anything.
I booted into single-user mode and ran fsck. It found nothing wrong.
Tried to boot into Safe mode extensively. Sometimes I could get to the login screen. Tried extensively logging in as my user, it would just hang on a blue screen. The secondary user works, although sometimes verrrry slow (beachballs).
I began following the instructions in this article. Many of the first solutions (#'s 1-3) involve Safe mode, but since my account couldn't get into Safe mode I began moving Preference files and such using single-user mode (#'s 4-6). On step 7, I got through items a-m, but the rest of it is contingent upon being able to log in, which I still was not.
Using the secondary login, I was able to open Console and glean some information from that. mdimportserver was crashing over and over again, sometimes causing crashdump to crash as well. I figured this explained the slow performance and intermittent beachballing while using the secondary user. lsregister was also crashing occasionaly. In system.log, I saw several I/O errors.
Finally I decided to run DiskWarrior from the CD. It found some errors (I can post the report later) and corrected them. I rebooted, still would blue screen on my login name.
I reset the PMU. After this the secondary user ran pretty much normally for a short time. I removed the couple third-party mdimport files (Spotlight plugins) I could using the list dump from running mdimportserver -L and renaming the third party ones. (I know SOHO Notes includes Spotlight support now, but I could not find their plugin for the life of me, I'm not sure how they have enabled Spotlight support).
Still getting I/O errors in system.log. The secondary user is not working very well anymore (slower w/ beachballs).
This whole time the SMART status of my boot drive has been "Verified"
So - is my drive dead?
    PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz (12) Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Update:
Using the secondary user in Safe Mode has allowed functionality enough to reformat an external drive with Disk Utility (although the drive spun down and Disk Utility didn't do anything while still saying 7 minutes left on the zero-all operation).
I force quit Disk Utility and reboot into Safe Mode. Got the startup progress bar, then the blue screen, then the screen went to a black with white lettering saying:
<time & host name> getty: /dev/console: Operation not supported by device
Then it would go back to aqua blue for a few moments, then back to this.

  • Failed 10.4.7 update has caused blue screen at log on

I tried to download the 10.4.7 update (133MB version) to my 15" MBP and for some reason the download failed. Now I cannot start my MBP- after the Apple screen it just goes to a blank blue screen and stays there. I have looked for advice on the discussions board and tried the following things-
-starting it in safe mode and deleting the log in items (in both user accounts), that didn't seem to make any difference
-restoring the firmware as per the advice at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303469, nothing happened when I followed the instructions, just started up again with that blue screen. Problem with this step is that it only works if you haven't since updated the firmware and I suspect we have since we do most of the updates that come up with Software Update.
Any other ideas before I take the computer back to the shop?
MBP, Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   still learning how to use my Mac...

To solve this, I downloaded the upload using the other computer and put it onto a cd-rom. Then I started the computer in safe mode, then pu the cd in and continued the update. Seemed to work a treat.
Might help someone else if they get any issues similar to this in future...

  • Blue screen - What log in windows show the error?

    Hi
I get a blue screen, but not Windows blue screen of death(BSOD). Sometimes it goes grey. After 5-10 seconds the alarm for hardware failure comes .....
Is there any windows log that can tell which part of the hardware the cource the problem ?
Run on windows 7 home edition.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Brian

    BT
With only 139 events in the log there is not much to go on.  You are having BSOD'S and might want to check for DMP files (instructions in the below wiki)
I suspect much is going on in the system because of the high number of errors and critical errors in the 139 events.  I would check for DMP files and run a system file check to verify the OS
We do need the actual log files (called a DMP files) as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers
were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here
If you have any questions about the procedure please ask
Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM if you are on win 8 or higher

  • Blue Screen when Logging in after Upgrade

Hi, I upgraded to 10.5.5 yesterday and had no problems.
Until today, just a few minutes ago when I started my iMac. A blue screen simply appeared and stayed instead of the login window. I tried out all kinds of keyboard commands but no reaction. Then I clicked the power-button on the back of my iMac and suddenly the login screen appeared, and then suddenly disappeared again as the iMac went into sleep mode.
Then I was able to wake it by clicking the button again, and the login screen was there. So nothing bad happened, but it got me very worried and disappointed. I am used to a lot more stability and perfection from Apple...
Please tell me if there's anything I should know relating to this incident, or if you want to know more.

What I said doesn't in any way say something about my interest. It's how I feel about the new version of Mac, and why I don't have backups. You bet ya I'm still interested in solving Mac issues, because I love Mac. I am constantly helping my friend who has just recently switched from Windows to Mac with technical/usage issues and I wouldn't come here in the first place if I wasn't interested.
But if this glitch doesn't happen to me again, then yes, you're right, I wont be interested in solving this particular mystery anymore, even though I hope Apple stumbles across it sooner or later and fixes it despite its harmlessness. Because if you go too far without noticing ugly, yet small things about the OS, it might turn into an OS with the reliability of a Windows.
However, above all of this, I am quite confident that Leopard, or rather "Snow Leopard" in this case, will bring back the stability and reliability to the Mac that I felt with Tiger.
I've read your signature, but try not to be too short/quick on determining my interest in topics that I start myself
Besides, everyone is in a bad mood at some point in time of the day/week and since pure text can't convey these feelings as an eye-to-eye conversation would, try to cut everyone some slack before coming to conclusions; being supportive is the best you can do when communicating with a person whose state of emotions you just cannot tell through this type of medium!
And in any case, I respect you. Seeing that you have already made thousands of posts in these discussion boards gives me confirmation that you also love Mac and that you also like helping strangers with their computers; that's something I can understand, not only from my past participation in topics here, but also from helping other people with web development on IRC.
Point is that if you felt like I disrespected you, or disrespected your offer to assist me in finding an answer to the original topic of this thread in particular, I didn't mean it. Hel, I appreciate the fact alone that you even wrote a response to my original post, so I hope I made my attitude to this forum and the people here clear.

  • Blank Blue Screen After Log In

Hello ladies and gents...ill describe the problem im having and how it occured.
I was browsing the web and playing music when my Powerbook G4 froze suddenly. I did the usual and restarted it. After the loading bar that says "Starting MAc OSX" appeared and fully loaded it went to the normal blue screen that appears when loading the whole desktop and dock...however nothing appeared and it just stayed there. I could still move the mouse around but thats it. I restarted again and was taken to a black screen and DARWIN appeared i put in my username and password and then it said "Welcome To Darwin". I let the powerbook sit for like 2 minutes and it went back to the Blue screen again, nothing loaded. Im basically at a standstill on what to do. I Do not have the installation CD's that came with my powerbook and I dont know what 2 do.
Anyone know a solution to the problem??????
And another thing, if its some sort of harware failure is there a way i can get my programs and digital design work onto an external harddrive i realllyyyy cant afford to lose that stuff.
    Help is greatly appreciated.

    See if this works...
    Might try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:

The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK

If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:

*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
    4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.

  • Mid 2010 MacBook Pro: Will randomly blue-screen and Safari repeatedly crashes.

I bought my MacBook Pro in June/July of last year, and it has worked perfectly fine up to this point. However, for the past 2 months or so, my computer will randomly go to a blue screen and log me out. Also, Safari will crash several times (it had never crashed on me until the blue-screen problem started. Both of these issues surfaced at the same time). For the most part, the blue-screening problem only happens when I'm using the internet, but sometimes it will happen when I am offline as well. This is an infrequent/inconsistent problem, though. It will blue-screen and Safari will crash one week, but then it will be perfectly fine for the next three or four weeks. What's wrong/how do I fix it?

    Hi JRC8.8,
It sounds like you have been on the right track in trying to troubleshoot this issue. You may want to see if your MacBook Pro will boot directly to the Apple Hardware Test, as outlined in the following article:

  • Blue screen on start up, nothing else. What can I do?

    Re: my son's 14" iBook (G3 900 mHz, 10.4.2).
Before doing anything, I repaired permissions, ran all tasks in Mac Janitor.
First I wanted to update to 10.4.3, but got an error message within seconds saying it could not install it. I had downloaded the stand alone update from the Apple site earlier.
The iBook had iTunes 4.9, I believe. Installed iTunes 6.0.1 from stand alone installer. It installed just fine and went to restart to complete the installation. I now get the grey apple screen with the grey spinning thing, and then it goes to a pure light blue screen, no log in window ever appears, no cursor.
Put in the Tiger disk, ran disk utility, clicked repair disk but disk did not need to be repaired. Repaired permissions. Still nothing.
I firewired it to my iMac and got all the items in his user folder out of it. Looking at it, I saw that the iTunes is indeed 6.0.1, and the system still 10.4.2
I restarted the iBook again, and got a BEEP and then the powerlight on the front of the iBook flickered a number of times. Then it started to the blue screen again. It has only done the beep thing once though.
When I boot into safe mode, which works fine, and open System Preferences, I cannot click Accounts, it says "Preferences Error: Could not load accounts". But I am in the user/admin account on this iBook.
Could the iTunes have caused this?
I have had trouble with system updates on this computer before. It is on its 3rd logic board (both times it needed replacement after going for major system updates, Jaguar to Panther and Panther to TIger). Last time, in July, the hard drive was replaced as well.
My Apple dealer here in Costa Rica does not seem to find an underlying problem.
I know I may have to do an archive and install. I am hesitant to do this because everytime I have ever tried to do it on this computer I get a kernel panic and end up having to send it to the dealer which is a hassle because it's 5 hours away and it takes awhile to get it back.
If there is anything anybody can suggest, I - and my son!- will be very grateful...
    -Joanna

    Joanna-
Since it comes up ok in fire wire target mode and you've backed up everything in /Users, I'd suggest doing a clean install of 10.4, in other words, reformat the hard drive and install 10.4 then the combo updater 10.4.3.
Main catch: any applications that have been installed that would be difficult/impossible to re-install afterwards? You'll need to know where to get them and have the registration keys (if any) available. Also helps if you know how to re-build the apps' customizations/preferences you might have in place (these may just come back from the ~Library/Preferences, but might not).
Also, be sure you have any users documented so you can add them after reinstalling (especially the short names). It's somewhat time consuming but you're certain of getting a clean OS X install that way.
BTW, wasnt there some wide-spread problem with iBook logic boards a couple of revs back that Apple agreed to replace? Was yours part of that?

  • Blue Screen Instant Restart

My iMac will all of a sudden do a Instant Blue Screen Restart.
The screen just turns blue for a second and and then go to the desk top
    All apps will have closed
It is a a instant restart no chime no warnings
    Before The Snow Leiopard upgrade
This iMac would shut down randomly 3 times a day but it was a hard shut down.
I have taken it too the apple store for repair 3 times and each time they cant find any thing wrong.
I bought it Feb 2009 and it has had "improper Shutdown detected"reports 225 times
    I am really getting upset
My coworkers whom are on PC's really get a kick out of the great "MAC Experience"

    Jay Ducharme wrote:
There's some speculation that some PPC apps running in Rosetta are causing the WindowServer process to crash, resulting in a forced logout. <</div>
This is exactly what happened to me. I was using Photoshop CS (through Rosetta). I scanned an image, then went to print it as a PDF file. I filled in the title and author fields, and as I moved to the subject field I was suddenly greeted with a blue screen (of death?) and immediately after, the OS X log-in screen.
I logged back in and repeated the procedure, and right when I got to the subject field again -- blue screen then log-in.
Do you have a Crash Log or Diagnostic Report for the WindowServer process at those times? If so,
report it to Apple (I suspect they have several such reports already).
The speculation I've seen is that some of these apps weren't doing things properly before, but Leopard could handle them; now SL can't, so there may be a good deal of finger-pointing between the companies as to who needs to fix what.

  • Blue Screen of Death when logging out

Until recently I had only a Macbook Pro, and connected to the internet using my Airport Extreme. Then I added a Mac Pro with Leopard server - to add wikis blogs and other nice features into my home network.
However, intermittently, when I log out of an account to go back to the Login Window (if I want to leave the administrator account) or even just out of a user account, the login screen does not appear - and I get a blue screen of death with a spinning 'wait for' icon (no cursor is visible).
Has anyone had similar experiences? Anything I need to do to prevent this from happening. This actually happens both on my Macbook and Mac Pro now that the server is in the picture.
It is worrying me as the only way to get out of it is to hard-reboot the system. Not the best way to keep my data intact.

Thought this might help. This also crashed with me running 10.5.2

  • My computer has more than one login. Now when I log out it just brings up a blue screen and won't let me do anything eles. What's wrong with it?

Now it just brings up a blue screen and it won't
Let me do anything eles. What's wrong with it. This is the second time it's done it today

I am experiencing the same thing on log out, not all the time but too often. I can get going again by shutting down with the power button, waiting 10 sec. then pressing the power button to boot up again. I have run Disk Utilities, Techtool Deluxe and Disk Warrior which all indicate everything is OK. So I am hoping someone will be able to help us with this issue.

  • MBP "System Profile" error when try read "Logs" and long time blue screen

MBP "System Profile" error when try to read "Logs" and it takes long time blue screen at startup.
This happened all time when I open the "System Profiler" application and then select the option "Log", then the system crashed again over and over. The system was reinstalled clean but the error occurs again, without any third party application installed.
    Here is the error:

    Hello @larrycarol99,
I understand that after upgrading your computer when you plug in an ethernet cord you get a hardware malfunction error. I am providing you with a Microsoft Support document: Hardware Malfunction Results in System Error Message that explains what causes that error and provides steps on fixing it. I am also including a link to the Compaq Presario 5300US Desktop PC Drivers page, which unfortunately does not have any drivers for your computer running Windows Vista.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!
Also be sure to mark my post as “Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others who face the same challenge find the same solution.
