Blue screen of death, surprise restarts, and some captured clips distorted, with blocky artifacts!

Hello,
I've been using my set-up (Premiere Pro 2.0* with Cineform AspectHD) successfully for years, to capture and edit footage. But just recently, my computer has given me the blue screen of death after capturing for about 5-10 minutes or caused my computer to restart in the middle of capturing. I've also noticed that the resulting captured clips are, in some places, distorted and contain blocky artifacts. It isn't a problem with the tape because the footage plays just fine on the camera's preview monitor. I tried re-installing Premiere Pro 2.0 and Cineform AspectHD, but the problem persisted after a successful, but brief capture session (the resulting clips were still distorted and contained blocky artifacts). I have no idea what the problem is! One solution I attempted was to capture on another computer in my house, using the same software. Although I didn't get the blue screen of death or a surprise restart, the captured clips were still distorted and contained blocky artifacts in some spots. Another option I tried, with the second computer, was deselecting the Scene Detect option in the capture dialogue box. As a result, the captured clips are free of distortion and blocky artifacts, but the problem is that the captured clips are too big and very difficult to manage (I shoot a lot because I'm a filmmaker and I'm in the middle of a big project). Why is this happening?!
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated!
*I'd use a later version of Premiere, but I spent a lot of money on Cineform AspectHD and the version of Cineform I have only works with Premiere Pro 2.0.

I agree with John T. BSOD's are most often caused hardware issues, such as overheating of a component, or a failing, or undersized PSU.
Also, general system drivers can cause failure. Often, those are outlined (though maybe not in really adequate detail) in the Event Viewer's log. In that article, that John T. linked to, there is another link to "Finding Clues." It goes into more detail on using Event Viewer to explore warning, or error messages. If your testing of your system's components and heat, do not yield a weak link, see that one (no pun intended). It is in Reply # 3.
Good luck,
Hunt

Insert the install disk and press c on startup. Select your langauge then, if there's a menubar click utilities then click Disk Utility. If you didn't see the menubar continue with the installer until you see it.
Once in disk utitly select the drive and repair permissions.
After the repair is done, quit the utiltiy.
You can try to reboot and see if it works if you reboot, but if it doesn't repeat the same as before again.
Now you can continue with the installer and install the os.

  • Blue Screen Errors on HP's And Some Dells

Microsoft recently released an official update that seems to cause some HP's to "bluescreen" on startup. The Dell update seems to be for the webcam
There's a VERY simple fix for this.
    HP's
Restart your computer(press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds if you need to turn if off from the bluescreen)
While it is turning on tap the F8 key once a second until a text menu comes up
Arrow key down to Safe Mode with networking and press Enter
Windows will load, a bunch of files will scroll past, this is normal
After Windows loads, click Start > Accessories > System Restore
When the window pops up(it will take a few minutes sometimes); select "Different date" and choose the latest one that says Windows Update by it and click "next", and then confirm by clicking yes.
Your computer will then restart and undo the Windows update that caused the bluescreen.
If you're on an HP, that's all you have to do, Dells require a bit more work.
    Dells
(Note, you will need internet access on the computer affected, or your restore disc labeled Drivers/Applications or this will not work)
Restart your computer(press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds if you need to turn if off from the bluescreen)
While it is turning on tap the F8 key once a second until a text menu comes up
Arrow key down to Safe Mode  with networking and press Enter
Windows will load, a bunch of files will scroll past, this is normal
Go to your Control Panel and select "System" and then click on the Hardware tab.
    Select Device Manager
In the list that comes up, click on Image, or Imaging Devices
Under that you should see something similar to "Integrated Webcam", right click and select "Uninstall"
Check the box that says Uninstall the software for this device and click OK
After it has finished, restart your computer normally.
Insert the Driver/Apps disc and go into the Dell Resource CD and find your webcam driver/install it
    -or-
Go to http://dell.com and enter your Dell Service Tag(usually on the bottom/back of your computer) and make your way to the Drivers page for your model and download/install the webcam software
This will take about 5-30 minutes depending on your computer.
Note : This plays tricks on your anti virus programs and they may say your "definitions" are corrupt/out of date. This is also a simple fix, all you have do is run your AV programs update option and everything should be fixed.
Double note : This may or may not fix your problem if you have other issues. If you have any trouble, post here and I'll do my best to help. If you purchased your HP from Best Buy, and are within your warranty/service plan, most stores(as far as I know) are offering to fix this for free as it was not caused by the user.
    Anything else, please ask

  • When I clicked on Firefox, the update bar started but when it stopped Firfox would not open. The blue screen of death popped up and said something about a new installation. We restarted the computer and now Firefox will not open. Help!

When I clicked to open Firefox the update bar appeared and an update loaded. Usually when this happens Firefox will open up when the update is finished. This time it did not open. when I clicked on the icon again the blue screen opened and said something about a new installation and if this was the first time you have seen this screen restart your computer and try again. I restarted the computer and when I clicked on the Firefox icon the "hour glass" would appear like it was trying to open but it never would open. I don't know what else to do.

See below -- the way I asked the question the first time may not be clear. This post was a goof but I can't figure out how to delete it

  • Blue Screen of death when using Mozilla 3.6.10 (OK with Chrome)

Been using Netscape and Mozilla for 14 years. Now on 3.6.10 and for last two weeks, it crashes my PC after about 10 minutes online, this is my 4th attempt to report this (system won't stay up long enough). won't relaod session after crash either,
    Running Vista unfortunately

    Hello Phillip.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
Also, Windows 2000 support has just been dropped (from Microsoft, Firefox 3.5 and 3.6 are still supported for Windows 2000 by Mozilla), so it is recommended that you switch to a supported operating system.
    EDIT:
You may want to check for your printer drivers too. If it's only when you print, maybe it crashes because of the drivers... Does the printer work with other software?

  • IPod Causing Blue Screen of Death on Windows Vista

I'm posting this in the correct forum now:
For some reason, all of a sudden, whenever I plug in or unplug my iPod to my computer, the computer crashes and quickly shows a blue screen of death before restarting. It has not done this before today. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with the iPod or the computer that would cause it to do this.
When iTunes opened, it said there was a Windows Update to fix a problem with iPods corrupting upon disconnecting from the PC, but when I tried to download the update, it said something about the update not being needed for this system. The iPod isn't corrupted, everything is still on it. I don't know what the deal is.
I tried system restore back to like a week ago, but this did nothing to help.

First, update the USB Root Driver on your computer: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 Even if there are no new drivers for your computer, follow the last part of the article and let Windows update your USB driver.
Second, be sure you are using a rear port on your computer.
Third, with only the iPod, mouse and keyboard connected (no speakers, no mic, nothing else), reassign the drive letter on your iPod. Try M or P or Z: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499

  • Blue Screen Of Death When Syncing Ipod

Hey so if anyone can help me i will love you so much,
So I have a 20GB fourth generation ipod (old i know) but it works fine, and i have an new HP laptop that i got for christmas and like for a good 2 months everything was fine with itunes and then one time it told me i needed to restore my ipod to factory settings and i was like oh this is annoying but whatever ive done it before so i just did it, but the next time i tried syncing my ipod the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH came up and that scared me but i thought maybe it was just a one time thing...turns out it wasnt and now every time i try to sync my ipod the blue screen comes up and i have to restart my computer. my itunes otherwise works fine i listen to music on it and add music to itunes perfectly fine just the syncing doesnt work. I also thought maybe it could be my ipod because it is old so i went down to my desktop which has XP and and older version of itunes but it worked completly fine. SOOOOOOOOOOO i have no idea what to do. i dont know tons about computers but im not ******** and can most likely follow directions so if anyone could help me it would be much apreciated because i can not take listening to the god awful radio in the car much longer.

Have you tried System Restore to go back to before the problem started?
If that fixes the Blue Screen Of Death issue, then you can try and track down the changes from then to when the problem started.
    Good Luck.

  • Windows Blue Screen of Death

I keep getting the Blue Screen of Death when I am booted in Bootcamp.  Everything appears to boot fine.   I can load applications, but then shortly after using the Windows partition the Blue Screen of Death appears.  I have a MacBook Pro with retina display.  16GB RAM.  The Windows partition has 40GB dedicated to it.  Running Windows 7.  Everything was working fine last week.  I installed some new programs on the Mac Side. I also run Parallels sometimes.

I was able to fix this by restoring to a previous backup of the machine.  It must have been a bad driver.

  • Blue screen of death and restart.

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 through Boot Camp. I recently did updates for Windows 7 and had no issues. I use Windows 7 for online gaming only, prior to the new updates I had no issues. In the last two days I have experienced the blue screen of death and had my system restart back to the Apple OS. I then have to restart the computer to launch Boot Camp for Windows. Is ther anyone else having this issue? Or should I conduct a restore and prior to the recent updates?

    Any update regarding this issue?
now the iphone shutdown by itself

  • Blue Screen of Death, 0x0000007B and 0x00000050

    Hi,
    Product: HP Pavilion dv9500
    S/N {Removed for privacy}
    P/NG2745UA#ABA
    Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Today, when I was running Adobe Photoshop, my computer suddenly froze and some colors on the screen became "corrupted" (some yellow dots, lines and patches appeared throughout the screen). After the computer did not respond after 5 minutes, I then held down the power button to force a restart. When I tried to start it again, the HP logo appeared as usual, then came the black screen with the flashing in upper left corner (a little longer than usual I noted). Then came a screen where I was allowed to choose between, run startup recovery or normal mode. I chose startup recovery. A windowed showed which displayed "Windows is Loading Files" and a bar began filling up. Then the screen turned blue and I saw command prompt flash several times in upper left corner for fractions of a second. Then, without even the recovery window showing, a blue screen of death appeared with the code bearing "0x00000050" PAGE FAULT IN NON-PAGE AREA. This screen hung until I pressed the power button and the computer obeyed. I then began to use several other options that I hoped would fix it, Safe Mode, Last Known Safe Configuration, System Restore, though they all went back to the same "Windows is Loading Files" page. I noted that went I tried to launch from "Normal Mode", the BIOS screen would appear, then after the computer would display another Blue Screen of Death with the more famous code "0x0000007B" INACESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Could someone please help me? I do not have that many important documents on this computer and I am willing to reboot it though I do not have any disks. Is there another way I can reinstall WIndows Vista? If there is a way that I can recover my files, that would be better. Thanks.

Update: I went into BIOS Setup Utility and performed a Primary Hard disk Self Test. Although the test didn't finish, it stopped with this message "#10009- Replace Hard Disk". I do not really want to order another hard drive, does anyone have a solution?

  • Help! blue screen of death and ibook won't boot at all

I ran the software update on my ibook (800 mhz, G3 running 10.4.3) today. I repaired permissions and rebooted before hand. I don't have any hacks on it. I have plently of room on the drive for the update (more than 6gigs on the 30 gig drive). I know my ibook is feeling its age, but now she won't start at all!
When I ran the update (which I already did on my imac with no problems), the ipod updater, quicktime and something else installed without problem. I came into the room to find that the Mac OS 10.4.4 updater had a red exclimation point next to it, and I had an error message that there was a problem with the update and that I needed to reboot. Restarting was my only option so I did. ibook would not start. It hung on the "starting OS X" screen forever (45 minutes). I force-restarted and booted in single-user mode. I have an app called AppleJack installed so I ran that (repairs permissions and such in single-user mode). I rebooted. Nothing. Blue screen of death.
Any ideas? Should I reinstall OS 10.4 from the CD?

How is mail different than that?
Mail keeps mailboxes in their own separate Finder files.
    Home -> Library -> Mail
Home -> Library -> Mail Downloads
Notice also that Mailboxes themselves have their own folders in
    Home -> Library -> Mail -> Mailboxes
Addressbook keeps addresses for Mail in its own set of Finder Files.
Home -> Library -> Application Support -> Addressbook
    iCal keeps it in
    Home -> Library -> Calendars
Whereas Microsoft Office is simply everything in one user belongs to:
Home -> Documents -> Microsoft User Data -> Identities -> Main Identity -> Database
So in reality you have 4 different places, and simple data corruption inside the database file itself is not going to take out all of the data when you use Mail, Addressbook, and iCal. I find it is much more robust to use Mail, Addressbook, and iCal purely for the reason that data corruption is not as prevalent a problem when your database gets large.
Single user mode is not a good idea, until the data is actually backed up in some fashion. Once you are getting input/output errors, trying to get it out of a place where there is data corruption by using a data recovery program is the first step with Prosoft Data Rescue.
You may try to rebuild the database file too, which might work, but since your machine is suffering a lot of input/output errors, I'm suspicious of the health of your hard drive, and you are booting to a blue screen, single user mode may not be enough, even Disk Warrior may not be enough. Now's the time to get all the data off the hard drive into another in a safe place. Data Rescue may be able to recover it. If not, you may have to deal with a data recovery firm.

  • Gateway FX and Blue Screen of Death

     Computer:
    Gateway FX 7024
    GeForce 8800GT 512 mb
     Problem:
I've had the computer for 1 1/2 years with very few problems. Recently, the screen will lock up solid and be illegible with "static" lines all the way down the monitor. Sometimes before the screen locks up, it will flip to the blue screen of death, say it's dumping physical memory, and then lock up. Only thing I can do is restart, but it will do it again at random lengths of time. Happens more while I'm playing games than anything else. Sounds to me like the graphics card has gone Tango Uniform, but a computer guru, I am not. Any ideas?
     What I've done so far:
I have checked for updated drivers and installed them.... no fix. I rolled back the drivers.... no fix. I have visually checked fans on power supply and graphics card to make sure they are working and they are fine. The fan on the motherboard spins, but doesn't appear to be moving overly fast. I checked BIOS and everything looks around what it should be for temp settings. In the "problems and solutions" application, it shows a video hardware error.
The only thing i did notice was there is only a 400W power supply installed and from the posts I've read, the 8800GT graphics card should have a 700-900W power supply. However... I've never had problems with it before. Could this cause the problem after 1 1/2 years?
help... i'm shaking from game withdrawals

Visited a company IT department today and an engineer looked at the AT&T Net Client settings. It now works - this may have been the "fix" for those in a similar predicament (all in the AT&T Net Client):
    1. Click "Settings".
    2. Click "Show the login properties window".
    3. Click "Configure".
    4. Click "Next".
    5. Select the "Both the internet and my company's intranet" radio button.
    6. Select "Managed VPN - SSL DualAccess" from the dropdown.
    7. Click "Finish".

  • Who knows how to fix iphone 5s blue screen of death and itunes error 4013?!

    Hi
Last day, dec 14th, a blue screen of death appears on my iphone 5s, aparently because I was installing facebook app.
After that, the iphone remains restarting over and over non stop, until the battery shutoff.
I try to press home and power/sleep buttons for 10 secs, but stil continuous with the blue screen.
After that, with battery charged, I tried to hold the home button and simultaneously connect to an usb cable (the cable is in perfect conditions) to start itunes.
Its worked, but now, everytime shows an itunes message: error 4013, "the iphone cannot be restored".
    What can I do now?!
    Thanks

    Hi Tks777,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you see an "error 4013" when you try to restore your iPhone, try these troubleshooting steps:
    Error 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, and 4016
After you perform each step, try to restore your device.
    Restart your computer.
Disconnect all your USB devices from your computer and connect to another USB port.
    Use a different USB cable.
    Uninstall third-party security software.
Try restoring using an alternate computer.

  • ITunes 9.2 causes fatal error and "blue screen of death"

I installed Itunes 9.2 this morning and whenever I tried accessing this version of Itunes, my system hangs and showed me the infamous “blue screen of death”. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes but nothing seems to work.
Anyone encountering this problem and is there any way to solve this? Thanks!

I was using v9.1.1.12 and could not synch my iphone with outlook although with other versions there was no problem so was keen to install the new version of iTunes yesterday (9.2.0.61). Installation went fine, iTunes opened up perfectly and read my music library and hey presto synched my phone with outlook. I was well pleased. Closed down itunes and went back to working A couple of hours later as my secretary had updated my calendar I plugged in my iphone and itunes started to open then.... disaster. The blue screen appeared.
I restarted again, and again and again and the same thing happens everytime iTunes was opened (independently or when plugging my iphone in). Tried 4 times.
I did a repair using itunes installer. No change stilled blue screened when opened. I then had the bright idea of uninstalling iTunes totally and reinstalling. No change - itunes begins to open then causes blue screen.
The next step I uninstalled itunes. Did a disk defrag and then thought I would reinstall version 9.1.1.12 and install the newer version over the top. But hey you have guessed it, the older version would not open because the library it was using had been created with a newer version i.e. v9.2.0.61 - nice one iTunes!!
So at the moment I have no iTunes at all so am stuffed. So, iTunes solves one problem but creates another. Do they ever check these things???
    Help!!

  • Notebook with blue screen of death and HP Ceement errors

    Hello, I am using:
Product name: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC
    Product number: QE310UA#ABA
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
I have been having a few message/errors lately and suspect they are related
    1) The "blue screen of death" has shut down operations a few times now, that I have seen. When it reboots, all my passwords are gone, all new log ins are required. I know it's been happening more than I see because my passwords will dissapear while I am away from my laptop and I had not seen it.
    2) Error message "HP CEEment has stopped working, windows is looking for a solution to solve this problem", comes up a lot. Daily, usually twice at a time. I googled this and a few "answers" said to look at your firewall and to "allow" HP Ceement. I called Norton and they showed me that it is allowed, so they are not the issue and to contact HP, hence why I am here.
    3) Not sure if this last one is part of the issue, but it has come up more than once lately. Error "Your current settings do not allow file to be downloaded". I ssupect when the computer reboots after the blue screen the security is automatically heightened and that is why I got this, as well as loose passwords and a couple other "secruity level" type problems.
    Thanks for the help, Amy

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I can offer the following in hopes that it may help.
First, a bit about the CEEment program:
    CEEment Overview
    Excerpted:
CEEment stands for Customer Experience Enhancement. CEEment (HPCEE.exe) is the reporting tool that HP uses to collect and study anonymous data. You can activate CEEment when you set up your computer. Or, you can activate using HP Advisor or HP Support Assistant at any time.
    Commentary
It might be that the CEEment program is not the direct cause of the problem, that is, the issue might be symptomatic of the underlying problems -- it may be part of the train wreck, so-to-speak.
In any case, while the system is up and running you can try the following to fix the issue or to at least try to eliminate the CEEment program from the mix.
Download Install a new copy of the latest version of the HP Support Assistant on your system:
    HP Support Assistant
If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select run as Administrator and install.
    Reboot the system
If you like, you can switch OFF the CEEment program and the other checks that HP Support Assistant performs on your system.
Example (HP Support Assistant Version 7.4.45.4)
Open the HP Support Assistant > Settings >
Scroll down to Warranty and Services >
Next to Check warranty now >>
CHECK No, I do not want to send this data >
Scroll down to Would you like to share anonymous usage data with HP? >
    CHECK No >
Under Welcome Screen (if necessary) >>
UNCHECK Show a welcome screen when I open HP Support Assistant >
    Click Save
    Dragon Tips
You may want to create an extra / new account with administrator privileges on the computer in case the issue is related in some way to your account.
You do want to make sure you have your personal data backed up -- make an extra effort to make sure your critical data is backed up somewhere other than on the computer.  Make a copy of those files to a USB drive or to the Cloud.  Make sure you include your bookmarks.
