Blue Screen re: Physicial Memory Dump on HP Pavilion DV6-3210-US

Hello. I am running Windows 7 and recently have been getting this bright blue screen with a ton a words on it but I can only pick out CRASH DUMP and PHYSICAL MEMORY DUMP from this before it just disappears. In a couple of cases it tried to run a service repair and didn't let me choose to run in anything but safe mode. It has also let me choose what mode to run.
I took it to a computer repair company and they put a new hard drive on my computer, tuned it up and sent me on my way. I've had it back 2 days and I just got the error again. I have a 30 day guarantee on my repair and probably should take it back but they didn't fix it the first time. I don't think they knew what this was and went for what they knew they could do easily.
What do I do?

Hello SandykUtah.
The two most common causes of blue screen errors are problems with either the hard drive or the memory.  Your notebook has diagnostics for both of these pieces of hardware.  I suggest running them both in addition to the advice suggested above by maxpower757.
This document covers running the hard drive test.  Simply repeat the process and select "memory test" to run the RAM test.
Make sure to post the results.  I hope you have a great day!

This one DMP file was inconclusive please run driver verifier to find the underlying cause
Please run these tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't
know what it is you probably are not overclocking.
Since it is more likely to be a driver please run verifier first.

I have gotten the blue screen of death twice now. The screen went by really fast but I think it said something about memory, like memory management. I copied the problem details:

Both times happened randomly and about 2 weeks apart, and the laptop (Toshiba Satellite; it was bought brand new about only 3 weeks ago) still works fine after it restarts, but I don't want it to keep happening. I also don't know what the problem is. I used my previous Windows 7 laptop (HP pavillion g6) the same way for 3 years and it never blue screened even once. I tried going to the Toshiba support website to see if I need to download any new drivers but the website does not seem to be working on my laptop, everytime I go on it it's just lines of letter and numbers.
Help would be much appreciated, thank you!

  • Memory speed for HP Pavilion dv6-7051sa

First time posting here - Can you tell me what speed memory this product comes shipped with. I have ordered one with 4gb, but I know it can be upgraded to 8gb. I see from the intel specs it supports 1066 and 1333mhz (non-ECC) memory
I just need to know which type of 4gb strip to order
    Thanks

    Hi Gareth,
One of the easiest ways to check exactly what Ram is already installed on your notebook is to download and install CPU-Z from the following link.
    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z/versions-history.html
When installed, launch the application and click the SPD tab.  Look at the entry next to 'Max Bandwidth' - remember that as you have 'double data rate' Ram the frequency in MHz should be multiplied by 2.

  • IPod touch blue screen of death on vista when synching photos

    Hi forum,
I've just purchased my gorgeous iPod Touch 16Gb. However, when I try and synch it to my Windows Vista PC (32 bit enterprise edition), it blue screens, does a memory dump, then restarts every time.
This only happens when synching photos, specifically when the "optimising photos for iPod" process takes place.
I'm running the latest version of iTunes (7.4.3.1), the iPod software is current, and my computer is fully patched and up-to-date.
Is there anyone out there who can help me solve this problem? The photo functionality is one of the reasons I bought the iPod, and I would like to get this sorted!
    Thanks!
    Frustrated iPod user.

  • Hard drive failing showing the blue screen

    Dear Toshiba technical support,
I have a Toshiba notebook Satellite L305-S5875 for few months, and  it's still in warranty. It shutted down suddenly showing the blue screen saying "physical memory dump...". I tried to restart me computer, but it does the same thing. I tried to reinstall the vista operational system, but it processed half way, then returned to blue screen again.  It seems to me that the hard drive is completely failed. Could you please show me how to fix this problem?
    Thank you very much
    Best,
    Truc Do

The blue screen error happens when RAM details are dumped into a file. This may be caused by a hardware in the computer. It is possible that the newly installed hardware is not compatible to run in your system. Memory stick problem can also be one of the causes of this error. Sometimes starting your Windows in safe mode will do the trick. To do this, press F8 while your computer is starting up. Then choose safe mode option among the list.

    *Sorry for poor english

Without the Minidump Files to help us isolate the cause of the errors you are experiencing there is no way to provide assistance specific to your situation.
One of the most common causes of errors are drivers. You have already mentioned that you have upgraded your graphics driver to the latest version provided by the manufacturer, updating other drivers like network, chipset, and storage controllers is a good
next step. If no driver updates resolve your issue and you have already looked into security software as a possible cause, another direction to take would be to review your hardware for possible failures. You can diagnose your memory by
entering “Diagnose your computer’s memory problems” at the start screen and selecting the result. You can also diagnose your storage devices by
right clicking the storage device in File Explorer, selecting properties, and selecting Error Checking.

  • Blue screen on connecting Nano

We recently bought two Nanos. I've had iTunes for some time, but when I got the Nanos I used the software disk to install iTunes again.
If I connect either Nano with either iTunes up or closed, I immediately get a blue screen with the "physical dump to memory starting" at the bottom. It counts to 100, then the computer re-starts. After that, it works fine, but I do get the "system has recovered from serious error" box that I have to close first.
I'm running XP with a Dell. Do I maybe need to re-install iTunes? Any help is appreciated.

I hate it when BSD comes up when you plug a device in.
When was the last time you rans Windows Update? Make sure you install all the recommended updates.
Give that a try, there's a good chance that will solve your problem.

  • Re: Satelite A200 1M5 Blue screen & Freezing

I have a 10 month old A200 running Vista Home Premium which was pre-installed on purchase.
Since inception but more regularly now, it freezes in any program several times daily and is now crashing with the blue screen coming up before dumping and rebooting itself.
It appears to be a major problem according to the number of people making similar comment over the net and offering all sorts of weird answers and solutions.
I use this computer all day every day for business and cannot afford this ridiculous down time nor do I believe should I have to be doing anything ...its a new computer!!!!
    What is its problem?
    What is causing it?
    Can it be fixed?
I cannot afford to be without it nor can I afford to waist time in repair shops, so what the answer?
Thanking you in advance for any possible solution/s

    Hi Andrew
The BDOS could be caused by serious software or a hardware issue.
But fact is that the BSOD is a standard error and therefore it's not easy to say what causes this issue.
First of all it should be necessary to know if its software or hardware related problem.
You can find it using the Toshiba recovery CD. After the new OS installation the notebook should run stable and the BSOD should not occurs.
But if the BSOD will persist, then the issue could be caused by a faulty hardware.
The BSOD appeared on my non-Toshiba notebook too and it was related to the high temperature inside the notebook.
The high temperature had a bad influence on the memory modules.
I cleaned then cooling modules using a compressed air spray and the BSOD didn't appear.
But listen dude; this does not mean that this could be the same reason for you BSOD errors.
So as you see it's really not easy to say what could be wrong.
If the BSOD will still persist after the new recovery then I would recommend contacting the service technician for a detailed notebook check.

    Hi,
In order to assist you, we will need the .DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc.
If you don't know where .DMP files are located, here's how to get to them:
    1. Navigate to the %systemroot%\Minidump folder.
    2. Copy any and all DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop and then zip up these files.
    3. Upload the zip containing the .DMP files to Onedrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply. Preferred sites: Onedrive, Mediafire, Dropbox, etc. Nothing with wait-timers, download managers, etc.
4 (optional): The type of .DMP files located in the Minidump folder are known as Small Memory Dumps. In %systemroot% there will be what is known as a Kernel-Dump (if your system is set to generate). It is labeled MEMORY.DMP. The difference
between Small Memory Dumps and Kernel-Dumps in the simplest definition is a Kernel-Dump contains
much more information at the time of the crash, therefore allowing further debugging of your issue. If your upload speed permits it, and you aren't going against any strict bandwidth and/or usage caps, etc, the Kernel-Dump is the best
choice. Do note that Kernel-Dumps are much larger in size due to containing much more info, which is why I mentioned upload speed, etc.
If you are going to use Onedrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following:
Upload photos and files to Onedrive.
After doing that, to learn how to share the link to the file if you are unaware, please visit the following link -
Share files and folders and change permissions and view 'Get a link'.
Please note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUpUtilities, CCleaner, etc, by default will delete .DMP files upon use. With this said, if you've run such software, you will need to allow the system to crash once again to generate a crash dump.
If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:
    1. Start > type %systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.
    2. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for all
    drives'.
    3. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the system
    log'.
Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.
    4. Double check that the WERS is ENABLED:
Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than
Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.
If you cannot get into normal mode to do any of this, please do this via Safe Mode.

    Patrick

  • I keep getting blue screen and error message to remove this file from system. spooldr.sys

HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - G510n    w/operating system     Windows XP Professional
I installed the printer in February and the disk did not finalize the setup process.  I went online and
down loaded the drivers and software that was offered from the HP website.
The printer works, but as the months have gone along, I keep getting updates for the printer and
the system needs to reboot and it does automatically.
Now I am getting a blue screen with a critical dump error message.  HP error reporting keeps sending
the same message back to restore to earlier date before the updates.  That worked for awhile.  Now
HP Error system says that malware has corrupted and needs to remove system file     spooldr.sys
Is this in your driver software.  Spooldr is the system that caches pages of data for printing in chronological
    order....
Can I uninstall my software and drivers and change to the plain & simple, print and scan to prevent the
spool driver from loading to my system?

Thank you for your input.  But, It is amazing that you can tell me that I was infected with  rootkit.
Without information as to how to fix, your information is after the fact and useless.
I used the Safety Scanner provided to me by HP.  A full scan didn't detect any Malware in any files on my system.  But the last screen dump provided the information that   spooldr.sys  was corrupted and  needed
    to be removed.
Coming into HP Form, I did read on the HP website that my system Windows XP Professional was not listed
and noted that the software may have not been just what I needed.  This was the reason for the question
about uninstalling and reinstalling less of the program.  I really don't need my printer to print backward and
that is all I see that it is doing that other printers don't.
Besides, Kudos goes to the person from HP who sent the email,  suggesting I used the HP Update software and drives recommended  for my computer system.  Computer, printer is working, back to normal and hasn't taken a dump since, I uploaded  software and drives for Windows XP Professional.

  • SOLUTION: Flash Video Causing Blue Screen & Lockups

Symptoms:  While playing a flash video, your screen locks up; goes black; you can hear audio in the background; and/or Blue Screen of Death.  The Blue Screen indicates a fault in nv4_disp.dll.
    =================  SOLUTION   =================
Newer versions of Nvidia Drivers are causing the problem.    Disabling hardware acceleration in Flash only reduces the frequency of the lockups, but does not resolve the issue.
Use this version of the Nvidia driver (but no later):   266.58
    Get it here:  http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
This is confirmed to resolve the problem.
Later Nvidia drivers added CUDA 4.0 (Unified Virtual Addressing (UVA) and GPUDirect™ v2.0) which is the root cause of the issue with "older" cards such as the 200 series and the 8 series.
If you have a somewhat older graphics card, there really is little need to update past version 266.58.

  • Blue Screen loop

Powered up my MacBook Pro this morning and it's stuck at a blue screen. Screen appears to pulse between two shades of blue with the mouse pointer appearing and disappearing every 30 seconds or so.
I've booted off the Leopard DVD and run disk first aid. No real problems found and a couple of dodgy permissions fixed. Safe mode seems to work, however when I try to logon the wallpaper disappears then I get the blue screen again and it dumps me back at the logon screen.
I've got a time machine backup that's a couple of days old if it helps.
Any suggestions, or do I need to archive and re-install?

Here Here!!! Magicboy's pointer to the com.apple.launchservices files just saved me a ton of reinstallation work. After trying countless other repair techniques, I was within a few moments of biting the bullet and doing a complete system reinstallation when I thought to do a search on these forums. Deleting the files got my system booting again. Thanks!!!
A tip to others - I always keep a spare portable drive with virgin installs of the most recent two OS releases (in this case, 10.4.11 and 10.5.6) plus drive repair software for use in just this kind of situation. I was able to boot from this emergency drive and easily delete the problem files from my startup drive. USB thumb drives are plenty big and inexpensive enough these days to serve this purpose without need for a drive+enclosure.

If the crashes are still happening after uninstalling Ultra ISO, then yes, let's run Memtest for no less than 8 passes:
    Memtest86+:
    Download Memtest86+ here:
    http://www.memtest.org/
    Which should I download?
You can either download the pre-compiled .ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary
files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).
Do note that some older generation motherboards do not support USB-based booting, therefore your only option is CD (or Floppy if you really wanted to).
How Memtest works (you don't need to read, it's only for those interested in the specifics):
Memtest uses algorithms (specifically two), namely moving inversion & what is deemed Modulo-X. Essentially, the first algorithm fills the memory with a pattern. Starting at the low address, it checks to see if the pattern was changed (it should not have
been), writes the patterns complement, increments the address, and repeats. Starting at the highest address (as opposed to the lowest), it follows the same checklist.
The reason for the second algorithm is due to a few limitations, with the first being that not all adjacent cells are being tested for interaction due to modern chips being 4 to 16 bits wide regarding data storage. With that said, patterns are used to go ahead
and ensure that all adjacent cells have at least been written with all possible one and zero combinations.
The second is that caching, buffering and out of order execution will interfere with the moving inversions algorithm. However, the second algorithm used is not affected by this. For starting offsets of 0-20, the algorithm will write every 20th location with
a pattern, write all other locations with the patterns complement, repeat the previous one (or more) times, and then check every 20th location for the previously mentioned pattern.
Now that you know how Memtest actually works, it's important to know that the tests it goes through all mean something different. It goes from Test 0 through Test 12, many of which use either one or the other algorithm discussed above, among many other things.

  • Multiple NI-Switch problems with PXI-2566 including blue screen

We've been having intermittent problems with our PXI-2566 for months now.
It seems like at some point the device and/or driver gets in a state where the open of the device causes a "blue screen." It traps in niswdk.dll (addr: ae9db759, base: ae9b7000, datestamp: 488e1ebe). The NI_Switch version on this system is 3.8.0f1. We now have the system configured to do a full kernel dump (as suggested in another thread).
We've seen some bad viStatus'es (that we've haven't been able to decode) returned from NI-Switch:
    niSwitch_InitWithTopology - 0xBFFA6767
niSwitch_Connect - 0xBFFA4B50 -- I think this is the error that starts the downward spiral...
    niSwitch_Disconnect & niSwitch_Connect  - 0xBFFA495D (after 0xBFFA4B50 error)
We get a blue screen the next time we start our app -- best guess is on the niSwitch_InitWithTopology ("foo", NISWITCH_TOPOLOGY_2566_16_SPDT, VI_FALSE, VI_TRUE, ) call.
We'd seen these kind of problems several months back & switched out to a different PXI-2566 & they went away, but now they've come back. Not sure how much the relays have been stressed, but even if they were don't see why we'd get these types of failures. The card passes self-test (from Max), but I get errors running the soft front panel & can't get to the relay counts:
The system is running XP. The application uses MSVC, VISA, etc. This doesn't have anything to do with powering on/off the PXI chassis (another reason for blue screens).
Ideas for fixes or debugging ???

OK, 1 easy answer: the device name was set to "PXI1-NI2566" MAX allows this & we have no trouble using this name from our application, but apparently the "-" is invalid from the soft front panel app. So at least I can get to the switch counts now (and they're all <2000).
We did get another 0xBFFA6767 this morning, follow shortly by a blue screen & have a kernel dump. Does that help in tracking this down?
We've been running this application for many months. It's use of the 2566 is pretty simple and has not changed. It fails intermittently & we haven't been able to correlate the failure with any other events. The system in general has been pretty stable in terms of hardware & software changes.
There are a lot of devices in this system -- this is the only one we're having problems with. We have a rack-mounted PC interfacing to separate PXI & VXI chassis. Here are summaries from MAX & Device Manager:
Is this enough detail? The MXI interface card (MXI-4?) is currently PCIe, but had this same problem with the PCI version of the card
Can you be more specific about resetting after a 0xBFFA6767 to get closer to the fault?
The "other blue screen" events I was referring to were in a different thread on the NI forums. Those problems had to do power cycling the PXI (or powering it on after the PC) -- we know from experience not do that.
