Blue-Screen Shutdown?

Sometimes, at Shutdown, the screen turns blue, and the gray Radian appears. The machine shuts down normally after about twenty seconds, and Restarts are never a problem. Is this action normal in 10.4.11? Thanks.
appler505

It could be, many factors affect that, like amount of free space, fragmentation, how many background APPs are running, OSX does a lot of Disk Access on shutdown.
If you haven't yet, I think you should get Applejack...
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Daily Freezes/Blue Screen Shutdowns on HP M8100N Desktop Product GC673AA w/ Vista

Hi - Hopefully someone can help me fix the Daily Freezes/Blue Screen Shutdowns on my HP M8100N Desktop Product GC673AA w/ Vista.  Occasional freezes started about 3 months ago and ocurred maybe once every 3 weeks.  They gradually progressed to the point that I am booted off my PC daily.  I've resarched message boards and tried to resolve on my own with no success.  I get different messages on The Blue Screen that appears since I changed the settings to not allow automatic shutdown.  Among the Error messages are the following:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. (i Wrote the additional detail  which I can provide if needed, but all of the messages reference disabling BIOS memory options for caching/shadowing)  I've tried but cannot find the option anywhere when I get into the BIOS screen.
         KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR ( i CAN PROVIDE ADD'L INFO IF NEEDED)
CHECK ADEQUATE DISK SPACE.  IF DRIVER IDENTIFIED IN STOP MSGE DISABLE OR UPDATE IT.  CHECK BIOS UPDATES.        DISABLE BIOS MEMORY OPTIONS
         BAD_SPOOL_HEADER
These are 4 Blue Screen mesages since I changed the Shutdown settings.
Any help would be appreciated.  I've tried all kinds of fixes with no success.  I only download basic HP, Vista, and basic software updates.  My spyware is AVG, Advanced System Care, and Spyware Dr.
I've considered a System Recovery but have never been able to do a backup since buying the PC in 2007.  I always get the Error message:  BACKUP ERROR I/O Device Error OX8007045D.
Any help resolving these issues would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Blue screen shutdown in t60

my t60 automatically shuts down whenever a new software is installed ....what is the prob?   can i rectify this ?

The blue screen of death (BSOD) can sometimes be the result of conflicting or outdates drivers, firmware, and BIOS.  Have you made sure your PC has up to date drivers, firmware and BIOS by checking with the PC manufacturer's website?

  • A blue screen error and suddenly shutdown on my Sat M70

i have a M70 laptop i buy it just 3 weeks ago. i start facing the following problems
    - system exhibit blue screen with an error message that i do not understand ( ) just when i slightly move my laptop or even when just changing the screen angle!!!!!!!!!!!! ( sometimes with a stange noise from the right highspeaker)
    - sometimes the screen shutdown but the system is usually running ( i can hear noise and LED is brightning)
i am recognizing your help and interest

    Hi
Usually if the Blue Screen error message occurs, so it could be a serious software fault or a hardware malfunction.
There is no generally solution for this problem. In my opinion you should check, if the software is responsible for this malfunction.
Try to install new OS or recover the unit with the delivered recovery CD.
Maybe this will solve the problems.
If not so it must be something wrong with the hardware. You should contact the Toshiba service. He can run some diagnostic test and you will get a detailed answer what its wrong.

  • Qosmio F20 blue screen of death after shutdown

    Hi there,
I get the blue screen of death after shutdown on my Qosmio F20 laptop.
    Error is IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
I assume that it is somehow related to tv tuner card.
I have tried to restore system - no good. After restoration for some time it was OK. But then BSOD appeared again.
Sometimes it also appears when I connect USB HDDs or even when I insert DVD disk.
And for shure everytime I shut laptop down.
    Has anybody got ideas?

    Hi
Reading you last message I really dont know what you expect from this forum ?:|
We all here can provide only some suggestions and opinions.
Without any notebook tests and checks nobody will be able to provide a magic solution
    I hope you understand this.
So back to the notebook issue.
There is a one way to find out if the issue could be related to the software or hardware.
You have to reinstall the notebook with the Toshiba recovery CD. If the same BSOD will appear after the installation from the recovery CD then the chance are that the hardware is faulty!
I think you should check this out.

  • Blue screen appears on startup and at shutdown

A few months ago, I bought a macbook pro and it was doing fine. But recently, every time it starts, a blue screen appears for a split second then it goes to log- in. Then, every time I shutdown, it will also show up for a split second then shutdown. It doesn't affect the computer but I'm just wondering how to stop it.

I couldn't rember what time it started so, I shut down my computer and the blue screen appereed at 8:39:28. But went I turned it on, the blue screen did not show. So, I turnned it of and on again and no blue screen. I did it several times and now the blue screen isn't showing. But I will post the test that showed in the concel during 8:39, when it powered of blue, to the time I powed it on, when the blue screen did not show. If you need more, I will try to give it to you. I'll post again if it shows up again. Also I  should edit out ethernet address too right?

  • Blue Screen:Startup & Shutdown

    Hi,
I'm getting a very quick blue screen during Startup and Shutdown.
I've only had the Macbook for a few weeks, and don't recall this happening until recently.
    Is this normal?
Thanks in advance for any constructive advice!

Hi , I'm having the same issue too. When I switched on my macbook pro , a white screen with apple logo in centre appeared & including a loading icon turning. Then, it follow by a bright blue screen & change into lighter blue screen. This blue screen process took about a few seconds before it brings me into my window screen . (This happen for shutdown too) I tried to google for this issue but couldn't find a better answer.Hope it's not some software issue. I just bought it 2 weeks ago. Hope to hear some advise from this forum. Thanks.

  • Mac mini will not complete shutdown-closes desktop, goes to blue screen, and spinning icon just spins forever, so  must power off to reboot.

Recently, My Mac-mini will not complete the "shutdown" or "restart" routine; it closes the desktop screen, goes to the light blue screen, but then the spinning indicator (not the "wheel of death") just keeps spinning forever with no shutdown (I've let it spin for >2 hrs.).  Have run disk/permissions verifications and repairs from applejack, disk utility, Mactuneup.app & all report ok.  Any suggestions, please?

    Have you tried with
    Control Option-Command-Eject

  • Blue screen on shutdown/restart

My PM has frozen with the blue screen and gearwheel on a couple of occasions recently. This appears to be associated with a general system slowdown after Aperture has been running for some time.
I did a search of the firum, and the closest I could find was this thread, which related shutdown problems to network drives. While my PM is on a network, these problems have only occurred with system slowness and Aperture.
I checked the console logs, but I really don't know where to start.
What diagnostics can be run to identify the cause of the problem before I start trying disk repair etc?

    Hi, Nigel.
You might want to treat the "freezes and hangs" problem similar to a kernel panic as the basic troubleshooting and hardware testing steps are virtually the same. See my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ.
    Good luck!

  • (10.6.5) Macbook stuck at reboot/logout/shutdown blue screen

    Hi there,
I've been googling this for a long time and haven't found anything that solved the issue so here it goes:
Sometimes, when trying to logout, shutting down or rebooting the system, finder shuts down and a blue screen with a spinning wheel appears where it will stay until I manually hold the power button.
I'm using an external USB audio interface (M-audio fast track ultra 8r) and a USB apple keyboard with a logitech mouse connected to it.
I have already tried booting in safe mode, resetting nvram/pram and even praying to the holy spirit.
    I'm open to any suggestions

Problem solved. I was getting a light blue screen and spinning progress wheel on shutdown about 40% of the time. I thought it was due to the number of applications open or the length of time before shutting down. I called Apple Support today and the rep (who was very good) who walked me through 3 steps.
    1) SMC reset
    2) PRAM reset
    3) Disk Utility -> Disk Verify -> Disk Repair
Problem that was causing shutdown errors was caused by a partially corrupted disk drive. Remember that the Macbook Air runs a Solid State Drive. Using the Disk Utility, we ran the Drive Repair feature and it found that my drive was partially corrupted and repaired it. Now that the drive has been "repaired", the shutdown issue has gone away.
I was afraid that I was going to have to reinstall MAC OS....but it was a quick "repair" command and the drive was repaired successfully. Problem solved.

  • Blue screen and spinning wheel at shutdown

since a few weeks my Mac mini won't shut down properly.
The blue screen with the spinning wheel does not go away.
Once I left the Mac on over night while shutting it down. In the morning there still was a blue screen and spinning wheel.
This happens not every time but more and more often.
I repaired the rights und checked the volume with the harddrive-tool (don't know the english name of that tool). No change.

Since last Friday (3/18), the exact same thing has been happening to me on a Mac mini (2010), only every time. I have searched and search since then and have not found a resolution online.
I have zapped the pram/vram, repaired permissions and verified disk in Disk Utility. I uninstalled the ONLY app that I added before the problem.....still no success.
When I boot up in Safe Mode, I can restart/shutdown. So at least it may not be a hardware issue.
Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated!
