Blue screen since update to Tiger!

Hi, we have had 2 x desktop G5's give us a blue screen after upgrading from 10.3.9 to Tiger. Constant restarts don't resolve the problem. Any suggestions eagerly awaited, thanks!

How did you install Tiger on these Macs? Did you use a retail copy of the Tiger DVD (& do you have a Tiger license for each Mac) or did you try some other method?

I don't have a 4G device, but I thought you can use mobile safari, the safari on the iPad, on 4G.
You could also try looking for a third party app. The official facebook app has been non to barely functional for years. I use mobile safari on my iPad although I do have a couple  of apps I've used upon occasion.

  • Transient blue screen since printer added

I've had my Mac mini since April and I've been very happy with it. I purchased a printer for printing documents and photos-an Epson R300. It said to use the CD to install prior to plugging it in to the mini via the USB. Even though I'm used to the ease of Apple installation (just plugging in things like a pc monitor, keyboard and mouse and needing no CD drivers), I did as the printer instructions required. Since the install, I've experienced the appearance of a blue screen. The first time, it took me back to the "blue screen of death" days on my old pc. But the blue screen lasted only briefly, and the desktop came back. I am also seeing it while browsing, or even using applications. I've unplugged the printer, and it was shut off when I did have it plugged in. I feel it is due to the CD driver (and other software I installed. I am afraid to do the same for my new iBook G4. Anyone know why this is occurring and how I can remedy the situation. I don't like seeing blank blue screens-even briefly.
    Thanks.
    ~margaret

    Hi Magaret,
Your included printer drivers may not be Tiger-compatible which could be causing this blue screen...though I've never heard of a situation like this before. :\ Your best bet would to download any updated drivers from Epson's website and then trying to reinstall. According to the Tiger website, your printer's drivers aren't automatically included with Tiger. My printer isn't listed (a Stylus CX5400), but it installed perfectly with the upgrade from Panther. So uninstall any software that's relevant to your printer, and then either reinstall with Epson's updated drivers, or see if Apple included any with Tiger. Let me know how this works! Good luck.

  • Garbled Text/Odd font in Safari since updating to Tiger.  Java related?

I seem to be having a problem with Safari since I updated to Tiger.
I'm running Safari 2.0.3, and have been encountering problems with garbled text in a strange font when Safari loads certain pages. The text often overlaps making it impossible to read.
A friend thinks it might be Java related. I've tried clearing the cache and resetting Java, but it hasn't helped.
    Here's a screenshot example: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/tashamay/Picture2.jpg
On the Petfinder.com page specifically, if I go directly to their home site everything is fine, but once I try and search the results come up all messed up.
I also have a problem with it when I try andl log into gmail. "Loading" comes up on the screen in the garbled text font as if it's trying to load an applet, but nothing happens. I eventually get the spinning rainbow of death and have to force quit.
    Any ideas?

    Hello tashamay:
I am not an expert in font issues, but you may have corrupt fonts. Open "font book.' Select all and run resolve duplicates. Then select all and run validate fonts. I also have read that Helvetica fractional fonts have caused some rendering problems.
I would also clear the Safari cache again.

  • Blue screen after update 10.5.7

Ok, I'm posting this 'cause I'm really desperate. I upgraded from .5.6 to .5.7 because of some problems I had with the video card (you know, tearings, gradients, horizontal lines, etc). Because the update says more support on nvidia cards, I decided to give it a try and updated. Well, every time I booted up, the computer ran normally but after 10 or 15 min, it froze up, and the strange thing is that, all the processes were still running (video in quicktime, music on iTunes). after I rebooted it several times with the same results, a blue screen started to appear on screen. After some hard power off's, I can't pass this screen (only the cursor is visible).
I reset eveything I could in the iMac, unplugged the power cord, running lots of hardware tests. I can't boot up neither with the Leopard disk nor with the Tiger installation disks because the same screen appears (even in Tiger crashes and shows Kernel Panic). The only thing I can do is to boot in safe mode, and eveything runs smoothly (but lots of coloured pixels are shown on the entire screen).
Any other idea?. I have some hope because in one restart, I could entered in Leopard, and it came back to the way it was before the blue screen.
My warranty is out, I don't own the Apple Care Protection Plan, and right now I can't afford a reparation service ($900+ is a little bit pricey).
_Is there a way to boot up with the disk and reinstall either Leopard or tiger????_

    HEy!!
Finally, after a nightmare I could succesfully restored my Mac!!!.
I was really desperate, so, after talking to a friend who knows this stuff very well, he told me that all that was left before taking it to the Apple Store was to do some maintainance with it. He told me to buy Drive Genius 2.0 and run every single maintainance tool the software had. So I did it, and magically I could boot into Leopard and reinstall the OS again1!!!!. Even I could restore some video-graphics problems that I had.
All of these because I upgraded to 10.5.7. Right now I'm running perfectly fine with 10.5.4.
Thank you guys for helping me out!!. If you have this problem you could try Drive Genius and maybe you can get out of trouble easily!!

  • Blinking blue screen after update

Hi, was having updating troubles (would not download), but tonight it finally did. However after it applied the update, I get a blinking blue screen, going from blue to a lighter blue then back again. The system seems to start normally, however once it loads my desktop and the menu bar it goes to the blue screen. I can start it fine in safe mode, and have zapped the pram, disabled all login items etc, no dice.
The computer is an iMac 21 inch
Thanks in advance for any help.

You have a mucked up update. restore the bootable backup/clone or Time Machine backup of your previous installation, and try again. If you don't have one, boot with your restore disc and reinstall the OS. Then, get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:

    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html

If you only have a Time Machine backup, ensure that you can reliably restore it to another disk/volume/partition before updating/upgrading.

  • Blue screen after update to 10.6.2

After i updated my iMac 24, it restarted, got past the grey screen with apple logo, then get's stock in the blue screen after that. I can move the mouse but that's it. I tried restarting en reset my PRAM, nothing. Then i disconnected everything extrenal, restarted after resetting PRAM again, nothing???
What do i have to do??????
    Thanks for any help
    Hans

Same issue as alembee. Clean install of 10.6. Installed Xcode from disk. Changed a few preferences. Got prompt of 10.6.2 update (plus iTunes and Remote access). When updates were installed, I was given the options to "restart now" or "restart later". I chose now. It looked like I was logged out, but the computer (original MBP Core Duo) stalled at the background nebula/aurora image. I could still move the mouse. Since I enabled ssh remote login, I tested it from another computer. Sure enough, I could login to the MBP and see all the processes running (top). I executed a "sudo reboot" to remotely restart the system.
I put in the 10.6 disc (held down "c") and went to Disk Utility. Ran Verify Permissions and Verify Disk for good measure (nothing wrong). I have upgraded the RAM and HD since purchase, but I don't see how this would be an issue. Since I was able to login remotely, it was seems to be an issue with proper logout and restarting.

  • Equium A60 Blue Screen after updating to XP Home SP2

I have a Toshiba Equium A60-692. I have updated to XP SP2 and now get a blue screen on start up with the message that ATI driver ATI2DVG has gone into a continuous loop. The Microsoft error report says this is due to incompatable drivers, but I have the latest driver from Toshiba.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    HI Laura,
if it is important for you to install SP2 on your notebook you should try a complete new OS.
At first save your data on an external device (CD, DVD, USB-HDD, ...) and start the Toshiba recovery CD. But pay attention all data will be lost, also other partitions!!!
After the new fresh OS is ready, update your drivers, Tools and QFEs from Toshiba HP and install it!
I the end try the SP2 installation! Then it should run!

  • Blue Screen after Updating to 10.5.2...

    Greetings Forum Members!
The Furthest I can update Leopard without the long delay of 5-10 minutes and BSOD is 10.5.1 After that wait, wait, wait and BSOD. Are there any ways to solve this problem? Does anyone have definite answers and a solution to the problem? A lot of people are having the exact same problem and I see few simple solutions. No, I do not have any System or Application Enhancers. This is a fresh erase and install.

The Article did not answer how I can install 10.4.5 and keep my hair from tuning gray. But I do feel an awesome bond and fellowship with other forum members like you. I'm staying at 10.5.1. And will burn a 8.39 gig disk image to DVD as/for backup in case I lose it again. Very frustrating with 10.5.2+ and the blue screen issue. Thank you for your support!

  • Blue screen after update to Lion

Since I have upgrade my Mac Pro (Mid 2010) to Mac OS X Server Lion 10.7.2 (11C74) I regularly experience a blue screen at start up. The normal login screen does not appear. However, I can log in from a different Mac using Screen Sharing. Initially, I can only use the Mac Pro through the Screen Sharing, but after a while the Mac Pro mouse and keyboard regain control. What's even weirder is that I at sometimes can move the cursor with the mouse attached to the Mac Pro, but I cannot click or select items. This also, at some miraculous moment normalizes.
So, it seems that keyboard and mouse periferals are not getting through but also the normal login screen does not pop up. The Mac Pro uses the official LED Cinema Display 27"" with a ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card.

Solved the problem using this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1411?viewlocale=nl_NL#symp1.

  • HELP - Laptop constantly blue screens since installed new E4200

I posted earlier about problems with a laptop connected to an E4200.  I am connecting to our wireless network and then using AT&T Global Dialer to access my company's network via VPN.  I have two desktops using the wireless network with absolutely no problems but the laptop constantly blue screens and/or loses the VPN connection.  This started the day we installed the new router.   Today I noticed that when I view all of the available wireless networks on the laptop, I see two of them for our home network (in addition to all of my neighbors' networks).  The duplicate SSID's have different MAC's and are on different channels.  Could this be causing my problem?  We had an older Linksys router prior to the E4200 and had absolutely no problems with the laptop.  Is this because the E4200 is dual band?  Would I be better off without this feature?
When I view the available wireless networks on my desktop, I only see the one home network, not two.  I also see only one of our neighbors' instead of six or seven (not sure if this is significant).  I don't know why the laptop sees two but the desktop sees one.  Any suggestions from anyone for this?
I called technical support and all they wanted to do was sell me an extended warranty.  She wouldn't or couldn't answer my question about why the laptop saw two SSID's for my network and whether this could be causing me problems.

Well, I connected the laptop to the guest network and haven't had any problems since.  I left it up about 5 1/2 hours last night and it stayed connected with no blue screens.  So far, so good this morning, although I can't say definitively it is fixed because once it went a whole day without blue screening, and once it only had problems one time during the work day.  However, five to six times a day had become the norm, so I am hopeful.
I am convinced that the problem is that it could see two networks with the same name.  Probably those are there because it is a dual brand router and one is 2.4 and the other 5 ghz, but I don't know how to tell for sure.
I can't change the wifi card on my laptop because it belongs to my company.  I did check to make sure it could handle 5ghz and it can.  I also have the latest version of the firmware.
I have searched and searched the internet and it seems I am the only person in this world having this problem.  If anyone has any ideas for anything else to check, that would be great, just in case connecting as a guest doesn't work long term.  I did check the settings and they are the same for 2.4 and 5 ghz, so why do I see two networks on the laptop, while I see only one on the desktops?  I am using Thankvantage Access Connections on the laptop.

  • MXI-3 blue screen when updating to windows 2000 service pack 3 or 4

I have na host computer with windows 2000, and a PXI chassis connected through MXI-3 (cooper wires). I have a 6025E, a 5102, a 5112, a pickering DMM, and two pickering switch-cards in it. Updating windows is not possible. It didn't work months ago when windows 2000 service pack came out and it doesn't work now with windows 2000 service pack 4 -Blue screeen of death is the verdict!
Any ideas about the posible problem and a cure?
    Scientia est potentia!

    Hi Magvar,
The first thing we need to determine is the cause of the problem. Right now, I see two possible causes. First, the problem could be with the OS on your computer. Second, the problem could be with the MXI-3 interface. In order to determine which is causing the blue screen, I recommend removing the PCI-MXI-3 board from the computer before you install the service pack. If the service pack will successfully install, then we know the problem was with the MXI-3 board. You can then try to reinstall the board. If the installation is not successful, then we know the problem is not connected with the MXI-3 system. In that case, you may need to contact Microsoft for further assistance.

  • Xperia so-02c has a black screen since updating

    Hello,
I agreed to an Android update from Sony on 08/18/2012. It told me I needed to charge my battery before the update, so I did (although not fully) everything progressed fine until my phone powered off. Since then it hasn't powered back on. This is the first update I’ve ever agreed to, needless to say if I’d thought this would happen I wouldn’t have agreed to Sony’s download.
Originally I could hold the power button down and the phone would still vibrate, but nothing else would happen. When I plugged it into the computer and then pressed the back button the green light would come on.  I've re-updated the phone using PC companion, and Update Service. I have both the Update, and the Factory Reset + update options. Each time the software on my computer told me the update was successful. Now when I hold down the power button the LED will flash red three times, no matter how long I hold it there is no longer any vibration. I have also tried holding down the power/volume up (and down) buttons, but the screen continues to ignore me. The screen has never showed no signs of life since the update. When this whole things started the phone was low on memory. When I plug the phone into the charger it blinks red at a steady pace before turning a solid green; I have not seen any other colors than red or green from the LED since this all began. I have tried all of the above with the SD and SIM card in, one in and one out, vise versa and both out. I don’t know if the phone is unlocked; I’m assuming at this point that it’s bricked
It's a Japanese phone from Docomo but I've been using it in Canada without any problems. I’ve had no battery problems and the screen was functioning fine until all of this started. I bought the phone two months ago but I have no warranty.
I would certainly appreciate any help you can offer.

Try letting the phone charge for a couple of hours and then run the software repair option in PCC. If it doesn't help it needs to be examined at an repair center to get it fixed. Contact your local support team to check if they might be able to help you.

  • Blue screen after update

I recently updated my iPad (4th gen)  and when it was time to install the screen went blue and then shut down. I've tried to restart it by holding the lock and home button and connecting it to my laptop but nothing has worked.

    Greetings noraeg09,
Based on your post, it seems you are unable to access your iPad due to an update issue. At this point, I would recommend placing the device into recovery mode and restoring it to factory settings. At any point have you create a backup via iCloud or iTunes?
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    Use recovery mode
You might need to use recovery mode to restore your device in these cases:
iTunes doesn't recognize your device or says it's in recovery mode.
You see the Apple logo onscreen for several minutes with no progress bar.
You see the Connect to iTunes screen.
Learn what to do if you see the progress bar onscreen for several minutes.
To put your device into recovery mode, follow these steps:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be able to restore from your backup.
    Get more help
Learn what to do if you don't see your device in iTunes for OS X, or in iTunes for Windows.
If you put your device into recovery mode by mistake, restart it. Or you can wait 15 minutes and your device will exit recovery mode by itself.
