Blue screen without login options?

I've had this MacBook Pro for at least 5 years now. Despite a few hiccups, it has continued to fare well. I've also had it checked out, hard drive erased and reinstalled, etc., many years back when it leapt off a high desk and dented itself on the hardwood floor.
Recently, it's been working fine. No issues. However, this past week it included a "Guest" login with sharing privileges, which made me doubt its security. I limited access for the guest account by choosing "No access" and it continued to work fine, login okay, etc. I realize the guest account with sharing privileges may have been there due to the machine being networked to one other computer in the house to attain wifi access.
Anyway, today, as I started it up to log on, it launched a blue screen and went no further. I held its power button down to restart it and, when restarted, was again met with a blue screen and without the login screen i usually see.
Does this mean it's dead, deeply troubled, or is it something to do with the change I made to that mysterious guest account - despite never seeing the guest account at login screen before?
Hoping this is not the end of the road for it. Help!
Thanks - any info extremely appreciated.

Still stuck. I've now followed instructions OrangeMarlin suggested above mentioned at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp2887.html and pages related, and also:
Tried to boot in UNIX by command-S ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp1720.html ) which allowed it to run through a start-up in white on black UNIX screen, but, being totally ignorant about using UNIX or performing checks through it, I didn't actually command it to do anything, except to "reboot" which did allow it to restart but, as usual, again didn't fully bootup and stopped at a bluescreen after chime and gray screen with apple logo, but without progress indicator, progress bar, or periodic flashing in the bluescreen I'd mentioned in above post.
Tried suggestings about restarting before resetting PMU through instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431 using keyboard command steps for force quit, restart, force shutdown, but it wouldn't force quit anyway, and I didn't go on to try resetting PMU aware I could make a bigger mess of things.
Tried also to command-control-P-R for PRAM and it started up, but again didn't complete and left me with a bluescreen.
It is now only blue without any indicators, flashes, changes, icons (though gray screen and apple logo still show before it turns to bluescreen) until I force it to power down by holding down the power button.
Any suggestions before I officially give up and bring it in to the shop?
Any help is appreciated.

Interesting. I've never performed any of the steps documented above and all of my BIOS updates (and updates via System Update) have been applied with no issues. Perhaps I'm just living dangerously?
    Several items, however, were omitted:
     Fully charged battery
     Connected to AC supply
     Not in a docking station

Blue screen after login and Hard drive and startup disk is full -How do I get in to erase data?

    this user tip might help:
Your Mac needs adequate hard drive space to operate normally. How full can a drive be before it's too full? There is no hard and fast rule that says “X” amount or “%” of free drive space is needed. A low amount of RAM requires more drive space for Virtual Memory’s swap files.
Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space are discussed in this link
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/lackofram.html
Here’s some general guidelines for minimum hard drive free space:
    1. As a general rule, your available space should be 5GB as an absolute minimum as it generally requires that much free space to perform an Archive and Install of Mac OS X and still preserve some free space for VM swap files.
    2. Some say that your hard drive should have at least 5% of it's capacity available for use. Still others say 10% to 15%. If you routinely process complex graphics and videos, even more space is required.
Look at these links about freeing up more space.

If i go on background display i can see the image that should be on the background and change it but nothing happens on the full screen.
I have no restore point as yet as new laptop for xmas, i do have backup discs but think its just something to do with the display.
If go into files and folders it shows me the icons on the desktop but all i see is this blank screen.
Any ideas please, if not would restore files work or full back up disc
Thanks very much for any help

    Hi
    Check this:
Click right on the desktop and choose Personalize.
There you should check the area: Basis design and design with high contrast
    Choose Windows 7 basic.
    Then reboot the unit.
Usually this should help to get the Windows 7 common design and desktop settings.
But if this will not help then you could use an fast solution which would be a usage of the recovery disk of HDD recovery option.
This would format the HDD and would reinstall everything again

    Hi,
In general, event ID 1530 means there are some data in the user profile are still be accessed when the user log
off from the Terminal Server. Please check if any of the data is still remained in the user profile supposed to be deleted. You can use Process Monitor or Process Explorer in order to find the software which is using the data and find the solution. If there
is no such data remained, the Windows have possibly stopped the process and deleted the data when log off. In such a case, you can ignore the Event 1530.
In addition, I recommend running SFC /Scannow from an elevated command prompt and check a dump file for Windows
    Explorer under C:\Localdumps.
    Besides, you can also download
Autoruns to troubleshooting Explorer issues. Please run Autoruns as Administrator, go to Options menu, Filter, select Hide Microsoft Entries and Ok. After that, open the Explorer tab,
and you will see all DLL that are running inside File Explorer, so start disabling and testing if Explorer crashed.

  • Blue Screen at login if printer and TM in USB ports

I recently started experiencing a bizarre problem I have never had at login after a restart or shut down. I first realized something was weird when my wireless keyboard was no longer working properly in that the bluetooth would randomly lose the signal and batteries were fresh. After purchasing a new apple keyboard I realized something was wrong with the computer itself, not the keyboard. This is what happens:
Normally when it loads up, I go to the white screen with the turn wheel, then a sky blue screen, then the login window where i enter my password and the nice leopard thing in the background, then loads my wallpaper and you know it works. But recently, the white screen stays on abnormally long then it goes to the blue screen where it gets stuck. No error messages or anything. I can't put the computer to sleep or type anything. So I pull the plug or hold the power button to restart. What I realized is that anytime something was in the USB ports, it wouldn't go past the blue screen. I was running time machine on a lacie hard drive, an HP printer, an iphone and ipod nano. The weird thing is that if just my iphone is plugged in, it will load, BUT if the printer and time machine are plugged in, it gets stuck. I tried just the printer and just the time machine separetly without the iphone, and it still does not load. Just the iPhone, it loads perfectly. When it does load I plug the time machine back in and printer back in. The printer works fine. The time machine just says preparing for about half an hour until it just says "Latest Backup: --" in the top window bar.
I did repair permissions twice, then did it with the leopard dvd, then did it on the time machine and no luck. I checked the power supply in the back and all the LED lights came on so nothing wrong with power. The Internal Hard drive doesn't sound abnormal. I checked the console during the start up period and it says a lot of these messages: "

  • G35 Qosmio Upgraded / Blue screened & No recovery Options - No help from Toshiba $$$

I am working on a system for a customer. It comes to me with big headaches. System came with Media edition bust customer used an upgrade to Vista Disc and used it for a while before he corrupted both drives to the point where he can no longer use it without blue screening.  He brought it to be wiped out and factory reinstalled.  Here is what I did:
1:  Put the raid drivers for xp on a USB floppy, loaded the system formatted the drive (s) and proceeded to load installation disc.  system gets to about 8% file name is cyycoins.chm and it stops saying it cannot copy file.  If you skip it, the problem persists with other files.
2: I put in another CD-Rom as well as other original Media edition discs, same scenario.
3:  Downloaded a bios flash via floppy and pushed that through, tried to reinstall but with same problem in same file locations.
4: Tried to use customers recovery discs but it gets to a point and says WRONG MACHINE and goes no further.
What does the phone support tell me, he says oh, this is a problem that I cannot furnish to you via telephone or any other support you will have to bring it in to a support site,. well as indicated I am a repair store, I dont like to give up my work or feel as though it would be good for business to tell the customer sorry you have to go somewhere else that will obviously charge a whole lot more then me or even lie to him but what else can I do. Not to forget to mention that the closest place is over 40 miles away.  Maybe if Toshiba was not so stringent who is eligible for that status quot then maybe there would be closer options.  I personally am owner / operator and dont have time to go to their specific schools for this crap I know enough to repair microchips on motherboards for pete sake.
I have not attempted to pull the CMOS battery to reset the board, not sure if that would work anyway.  I also have not tried a full version of vista, customer stated that he did not want it anymore because of the issues he was having with the system while it was installed so he wasnt going to go that route.
Listen any support is appreciated, unfortunitly with this system it is not so cut & dry.  Also anyone know what code I can use to change the Raid Array, I am sure that would help too. Thanks

You can google cyycoins.chm and find many people having problems with it.  Some it seem are due to a custom Windows disc.
I would recomend the recovery disc, as it will do it all and put all drivers in place.  It is simple and complete.  Much less work.   You mention he has that disc but you get the wrong machine error message.  If the disc is the correct one for that model, then the DMI needs to be written for that model.  For some models there is a program on Toshibas website to do it.  If there isn't for this model (Which I don't think G35's are covered) then you need to take it to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to do it.  Since it is just software that they need to run, maybe they won't charge much.  But I have no idea about that.

  • MBP stucks on blue screen on login, even after complete reinstall

    Hi everyone!
This is REALLY driving me nuts. Three days ago, I found one of my MBP apparently on sleep but with fans running full speed and unable to wake up. As usual, when this happens I just force it to turn off but this time after the Apple logo (OS loading) I got stuck on a blue screen before the login window.
*What I already have DONE trying to solve this (please read)*
    - PVRAM reset
    - SMC reset
    - Full check with Disk Utilities (no problems)
    - Started on verbose and single-user mode and done almost everything there (fsck, checking console.log, etc…)
    - FULL OSX REINSTALL, erasing every partition (even "zeroing" the disk) and installing from external drive (installing from DVD didn't seem to work, but the optical drive is fine). Still same problem.
    *Other symptoms*
    - After waiting like 5-10 minutes on the blue screen, it shows the login window just fine and I can login. From there everything seems to work OK. I can use my computer "fine"
    - OSX loading (gray screen with the Apple logo) takes forever
    - Mac doesn't wake up from sleep
    - It runs quite hot
    - I can boot in safe mode, but the auto-check at the start of that mode doesn't solve the problem
    - When it is stuck on the blue screen, no cursor is shown. If sleep mode kicks in, the computer freezes on the login screen, can't do anything.
At the beginning I said that one of my MBP was affected. Well, one day after the EXACT SAME happen on my OTHER MBP, EXACT same symptoms. (MBP 4,1 and 3,1 both on 10.6.6)
I think this could be a corrupt firmware (remember this happens even with the complete reinstall) or a really weird hw failure or something beyond the OS.
As you can read, I can use my computer (both). I'm writing this on it in fact. But I can't fully fix it and I have spend almost entire days on backups, possible fixes, forum browsing… really this makes my days a living **** (not kidding!)
Please help me! Thanks in advance (And sorry for my english and the long post!)

Well, neither of those should be the issue.
Can't check the FW ports, as I don't have a FW cable (they are somewhat hard to find on my city)
The reason I ask is because there have been a few cases here where the initial boot process was searching and searching for a FW port, but the port was dead, and it caused long delays similar to yours.
No, no new HD or RAM, but is not stock HW (upgraded RAM and HD several months ago, never a single problem on either computer).
RAM may be suspect. Have you updated software recently? Some RAM can be compatible with an earlier OS, but then out of spec after an update. If you have the original RAM, I would put it back in and see if that's the issue. If issue persists, try removing one of the modules and booting; if that doesn't work, swap the module into the other slot. Repeat with other RAM module. This will troubleshoot the RAM and both slots.
There also seem to be a growing number of issues with non-Apple-branded HDs, so I'm not sure that can be ruled out. If you have original HD, and the time to put it in, and you want to get to the bottom of this, you may want to give that a try.

    Thanks for your response, Pennbank.
From what I understand, when I hook up my computer to my TV, the only thing I need to do, (in order for audio to be transmitted from my TV) is to 'select a device for sound output' in System Preferences. But my computer does not read or register at all that it is connected to any device. The picture is all there on my TV and the connection is there, but it is not showing me any other option to select for sound other than Internal Speakers. Here is a screen grab. The sound from my TV is totally fine when I watch it. Are you saying I might need to make an adjustment in my TV setting?

  • Pulling Blue screen without losing shadow details

    Hi every body
I have a blue screen I am working to pull it out, but the Problem is that the shadow of the actor is pulling out also.
Any Help to solve this problem.
I don’t won’t to lose the shadow details when I am pulling blue or Green screen.
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Hi all again,
Finally I have found the solution to my problem. Thanks to this post http://macosx.com/forums/archive/t-234687.html
I solved the blue screen issue.
My solution was to delete all ATI RADEON, Rage 128GA and Rage Pro driver out of root/system/library/extensions. I only left the ATIRage128.kext and ATIRage128DVDDriver.bundle
Before I did that I updated to ATI Displays 4.5.7.
Now the Powerbook starts up properly and I have all display modes with and without external monitor available.
The "ASIC hang log" message in the Console system log gave me the right direction.
When you google "ASIC hang log", you will find many posts about Macs and other machines equipped with ATI graphics chips having freeze or blue screen trouble.
According to some posts Apple Service cannot solve this problem and most people´s diagnosis leads towards a hardware failure. Before you get a new logic board or graphics card check your ATI system extension! Keep your MAC smiling.

  • Startup Process fails at Blue Screen before Login Window

OS/X 1.5.8 though this has occurred off and on for a year now.
    I have the Sys-Pref Energy-Saver/Schedule "Start-up" set for 5AM.
I get to the Macbook-pro maybe 5 to 10 min later. Lift Lid.
    Usually I see the Login-window.
Several times a month I see just a blue screen.
    What causes this start-up failure?

Don't know about the Lid. Doesn't matter most days.
As for Logs ... well, Console log portions, during startup, don't show Crashes. They do show warnings and errors. Yet the process seems to go on.
    here;'s one FWIW

  • 1.83ghz mini unexpectedly goes to blue screen then login while in use

I'm hoping this is just a USB problem, because the user is also having occasional keyboard issues. She is working away and suddenly the mini will go to a blue screen (not rebooting, it's more like a sudden logout), then it will present the logon screen. She loses what she was working on.
KB issue: occasionally the Apple kb, which is plugged into the computer USB port, will stop responding. This happens in multiple apps. When she clicks on a different app (the mouse is connected to the kb) the kb starts working again. I must say this sounds more like software. Anybody seen something similar?
Leopard 10.5.6, mini is only a week old.

I can login to the other user account just fine.OK, then use the procedure in this User Tip: I lost my admin user to give the second account admin privileges.
That will then enable you to create a second admin account, and move stuff you need from the old account. You can do this by changing ownership of the old account to your new one, or you can delete the old admin account, and choose to save the user's files. See Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Deleting a user account and Mac OS X: Deleting a Former User's Home Directory (Folder).

  • Blank blue screen on login page

I have the Satellite L875D-S7332.  For the past few weeks I have had the problem of if the laptop goes into sleep mode, when I click somewhere on page to go from Date/time screen to login/password screen it stays blank and blue.  Have to unplug and take out battery to get it restarted and onto regular login screen.
