  • Fn shortcuts and blue thinkvantage button not working

The Fn+F2, Fn+F5, and Fn+F8 shortcuts are not working on my computer, yet the Fn+F3 and Fn+F4 shortcuts are working. The other ones used work as well but now aren't and I'm not sure why. They blue Thinkvantage button up by the volume also used to work and is no longer working as well. Any ideas as to how I get them to work again?

I thought this was the one place I could rely on for answers, but I guess not. I have given up hope.

  • Discussion: Assigning a software to Blue ThinkVantage Button on Win8

After upgrading to Windows 8, I couldn't get ThinkVantage button to work.
    This is my experience:
I found the 8001 registry entry workaround and tried it: didn't work.
But I found that installing Simpletap links the button to the software, and I did find that the software indeed adds 8001 registry key entry. Uninstalling the software and manually adding the key again didn't seem to work.
There must be some kind of background service or an additional registry key that's responsible to it. Just can't figure out what it is...
If anyone in this forum know something about this issue, I'd like to ask you to share your knowledge Thanks.
To Lenovo: Leaving a button without any function looks VERY, VERY irresponsible to me, especially since you are officially promoting Windows 8 on your website. I strongly recommend you to release a Programming tool or at least disclose some information about programming the button.

I think you need the Hotkey driver.  I use the Win7 one on Win8, as I have the Win7 ThinkVantage Power Manager, Access Connections and Communications Utility installed.
All seem to work fine, apart from Access Connections, which loses my wifi connection every half hour or so.
The Win8 Hotkey driver that's linked to here is rubbish, as it doesn't work with the Win7 tools and it even complains about Lenovo Settings not being installed, which is some mysterious Mtero app that is unavailable to pre-'30 generation ThinkPads in the Windows 8 App Store
I really hope that Lenovo releases Win8 versions of Power Options, Access Connections and Communications Utility, as upgrading to Windows 8 (as advertised on Lenovo's own site) leaves you with a crippled ThinkPad!

  • Blue thinkvantage button doesnt work in DOS

    Hi,
I have a T60 for 3 years now and it is time for a restore to factory defaults.
Until now i have run it with its factory OS, service partition is still there.
Problem is that it doesnt boot on Rescue & Recovery, when i press the blue button, nothing happens.
In Windows (XP) the ThinkV. button works flawlessly.
Can anyone tell me how i can restore to factory defaults, i don`t want to lose it by reinstalling OS manually.
    TY !

  • T61P with x64 Windows 7 - all works except the Blue Thinkvantage button

Anyone with an idea how to get this going? I have the update manager running and all x64 updates processed correctly. Only pressing the Blue button doesn't start the app.
    Thanks,
    Pascal

All working for me (Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit, clean rebuild).  Applying the Intel Matrix Storage Manager upgrade broke Windows Update, but copying the iastor.sys driver from another recently rebuilt windows 7 64 system (A T510) fixed this problem.  (To be clear, make a copy of iastor.sys in the windows\system32\drivers directory, rename the copy to BAD_iastor.sys_BAD, then copy the clean version to replace the old. At no time delete iastor.sys - always have a copy in that directory).
For me, the Sierra Wireless MC5725 device is what's hiccuping.  The System Management Interface Driver is no longer listed separately.  Anyone have an idea on how to get it?  Is it now part of another driver?  Thanks!

  • How can I get ThinkVantage button working again? (after a full HD rebuild)

    WindowsXP Pro, ThinkPad T60   (2007-F4G / UT0F4UK)
    Hi
How do I get my Thinkvantage button working again?
    Background:
I had a virus attack and as a precaution I zero-ed my ENTIRE hard disk (using KillDisk). I have managed to re-install most things, including I now have an icon on the taskbar called "Launch Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox". However I would prefer it to be fired up by my pressing the (blue) ThinkVantage button at the top of my keyboard.
I have refused point blank to pay the (outrageous) price of GBP 40.00 for Lenovo to send me a CD with Windows etc on it, but have managed (eventually) to rebuild the entire disk driver by driver until the ThinkVantage Toolbox thing (version 6.0.5449.31) could take over and bring my drivers up to date when I Update my system.
(It's just that they may have gone in incorrectly??)
Is there something I should have done during installation.
    Ship

  • Lenovo ThinkVantage Button W500

Recently Installed Window 7 Pro 64 bit and the blue ThinkVantage button is no longer working.  Is there a driver update for this?

Have you installed all the Thinkvantage applications from the Lenovo site? On my W500 the blue Thinkvantage button starts Lenovo Toolbox (old PC Doctor I thnk) so be sure you have that downloaded from Lenovo.

    From a lurker:
"Short of removing the partition and/or replacing the boot manager, you don't disable the predesktop area.  Again, the best protection mechanism to keep unwanted users out of PE is to password protect it via pe_setupmasterpwd.exe.
Alternatively, in a domain environment, recovery and restore options in PE can be hidden via GPO."

  • ThinkVantage Button takes me to System Recovery after HDD partition

    Hello,
    I recently purchased a W520 with 4GB of RAM.
I bought 3 more sticks of 4GB each, installed them and everything was fine. I also shrunk the C: drive and created a new drive (D:\) from the space I saved after shrinking the volume.
When I start the laptop and want to go into the BIOS setup by pressing the blue ThinkVantage button, it does not go to the BIOS setup. Rather it goes through to the system recovery options.
What gives? How do I go to the BIOS setup?
    Thank you in advance.

  • ThinkVantage button startup behavior changes after Rescue and Recovery

I recently bought a Thinkpad X301 (2777-CTO). When booting my computer, I see the following message: "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button". Initially, when I press this ThinkVantage button on startup, I get a "Startup Interrupt Menu", pictured at http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/4773/startupinterruptmenu.png
This menu is useful since it allows me to either enter the BIOS, start Rescue and Recovery, select a device to boot from, or simply start normally. However, after choosing the Rescue and Recovery option once, this menu no longer appears. Instead, it goes straight to Rescue and Recovery from there on without giving me the choice to enter the BIOS configuration or select a boot device.
I find this new behavior problematic for a few reasons:
    - The behavior of the ThinkVantage button at startup is inconsistent (a menu that should appear no longer does after running Rescue and Recovery once).
    - There appears to be no straight-forward way of reverting back to the desired (original) behavior.
    - The initial prompt on the power-on splash screen is now misleading. Although it still says "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button"; the way the button acts, it would probably be more accurate to say "To start Rescue and Recovery, press the blue ThinkVantage button" instead.
    - This behavior breaks the "Option Keys Display" option in the BIOS setup. Although I enabled this option, which should cause the system to display which key does what (e.g., F1 for BIOS), this is not displayed.
    - Running Rescue and Recovery results in a loss of functionality (instead of simply restoring the system to the initial state).
    - And anytime I press the blue ThinkVantage button (as instructed) instead of F1 or F12, I end up wasting several minutes, waiting for Rescue and Recovery to finish booting before I can properly shut it down and try again.
This problem appears to have existed for a long time (since 2008; http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/241845-thinkvantage-boot-menu-boots-straight-into-rescue-... ). However, the only "solution" that I have found is just a workaround: avoid pressing the ThinkVantage button (as instructed by the power-on splash screen).
The ideal solution would be to have a BIOS (or Rescue and Recovery) update which will prevent the ThinkVantage button from losing its original function after running Rescue and Recovery. I know that this is a minor bug, but this bug and another BIOS bug (in the network boot order menu, which I'll post after this one), which arose in less than a week after I received the computer, makes me question the ThinkPad's reputation for high-quality engineering.

  • Z60t ThinkVantage button

My blue ThinkVantage keyboard button stopped working months ago. After that I used the Fn-F5 key combination to turn the wireless function on and off. Now that has stopped working too. This is frustrating because I am trying without success to revive the wireless connection to my LAN. (Other than this the laptop is working fine.)
    How do I fix this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I would start by re-installing the HotKey driver. If it wants to uninstall older versions allow it to do this and then run the installer again to install the latest driver.
    Hope this helps

  • Thinkvantage button no longer glowing

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and now my Thinkvantage button has stopped lighting up its blue LED. Anyone else experiencing this?
Any drivers or firmware in the works for this, Lenovo?

I'm sorry, this is not going to be an answer - I just wanted to say that my think vantage button no longer works either - it does absolutely nothing.  I noticed there was a bios update today and I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it.  I'm also having trouble playing movies - it wants me to change my screen resolution and some other weird thing which I am not going to do.  It played movies fine yesterday.
Of course I'm out of warranty so there will be no resolution.

  • Thinkvantage button remapping problems

Since the update to Lenovo Solution center my thinkvantage button has been opening Simpletap, a completely useless program since my x220 is not a tablet. Once I uninstalled simpletap AND the Thinkvantage toolbox, I wanted the blue key to start Lenovo Solution Center. I went to regedit and changed the "File" string to C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Lenovo Solution Center\LSC.exe and I even changed the Default string to the same exe. I know this works because I can open other programs like notepad with the button, just not LSC. How can set it to open LSC? Is the location wrong?

    Hello BrandonK,
The ThinkVantage blue button can be programmed to run any executable file as long as you have the ‘hotkey utility’ installed. It’s owned by the hotkey features located in the registry at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY
Notepad.exe is the easiest to set up to open because you don't need to create batch files. You are only creating registry key (8001) that doesn't exist anymore because you performed a clean install.
    1. Open notepad (Start > Accessories > Notepad)
    2. Paste the following text:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY\8001]
    "File"="C:\\Windows\\notepad.exe"
    3. Save the file anywhere and name it whatever you want, but change the file extension from “.txt” to “.reg”
    4. Open the .reg file you just saved, use the big blue button to open the notepad program.
    Best Regards,
    Tanuj
