Blue Tooth Ports

In Device Manager/Ports (COM and LPT), I have 10 COM ports occupied by BT devices.  I have none connected and when I go into Control Panel/Bluetooth Local COM I see all 10.  But when I go to delete any of them I get the message "cannot be deleted because it is not a Bluetooth virtual COM port".  How do I get rid ot them as they are occupying COM ports that I need for REAL devices connected to the system?
Jack Huerkamp

I'm trying to get an overview quickly.
It seems like anyone who can take a BlueTooth chip and design the requisite circuitry for a specific purpose, along with the protoype soldering and chassis, etc, would have the ability to build their own interface using the I/O framework.
It looks as if Apple's licensing system requires a lot of open-ended trust on the part of the designer without much in return apart from the possibility of having a CB service added for their device, or else having a device that conforms to a CB service and is, therefore, easier for developers to use.
However, when you look at the need for manufacturing, with all of the pitfalls and dangers, there is no doubt that the trust granted to Apple by the designer of a BlueTooth device comes with potentially great dividends.
Also, now that I've looked into it a little more, what appeared to be a no-brainer device (say a simple on-off switch with the necessary relay, external power supply and external device leads) is actually not simple at all, and requires a number of specific electronics engineering solutions, depending on the situation.
I think my personal next step would be to purchase a BlueTooth chip, and put it into some sort of housing to extend the leads or a bread board, in order to familiarize myself with the chip and its capabilities. If Apple had such a product available for, say $20, it would go a long way towards opening the market and creating future relationships with BlueTooth device designers.

    You are asking several different questions. If you need to store your photos, music, and movies on an external volume, you certainly can. Any externally connected hard disk drive will work, connected either directly to your Mac or to your Time Capsule as a shared volume.
    You should not rely upon using that as a backup device though. Although you certainly may use it for both purposes, it is a better idea to have dedicated backup devices for a variety of reasons not limited to redundancy. You would not want to simultaneously lose all your pictures as well as your backup. If they are all on the same device, that could happen. Furthermore, a backup cannot back up the volume on which it is running.
    As for adding an Extreme or Express, using its LAN port for your iMac, and then enable Internet sharing so you can effectively use the iMac as a "hotspot", you can do that too, but I am unclear on what benefit you believe this arrangement would convey for you.
    An Extreme's Guest network is separate from its Main network; that is the reason for having it.

  • !!!SOLUTION !!! Hotsync TE2 with windows 7 (64bit) via blue tooth SOLUTION !!!

    I recently struggled with syncing my TE2 with the palm desktop application in windows 7 as many of you have too.
    I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, Palm desktop 4.1.4 and a blue tooth dongle.
    The solution I found for my problem works like this:
    Find a phone that has blue tooth and add it as device on your computer.
    I used a simple Nokia 2630.
    The add-proces went well and it automaticly had two COM-ports assigned that it uses for syncing or backup etc.
    I shut down the phone.
    Started the hotsync manager from Palm.
    Klicked away error messages as that the com-port is in use by another device.
    Klicked right in the tray icon for hotsync.
    Select setup.
    Select local.
    Then get a message that the port is not available.
    After that I can choose a port that IS availlable.
    That is one of the ports that was assigned to my Nokia phone.
    I select one of these ports and close the setup screen.
    I have setup a blue tooth hotsync connection on my TE2.
    Hereafter I can sync my TE2 with the Palm desktop 4.1.4 without a problem.
    Just don't use the phone and hotsync at the same time.
    The only messagfes I got are from docstogo that powerpoint does not work anymore, but you can ignore that message.
    After one hotsync these messages don't appear anymore.
    I don't start the hotsync program at startup, but start it manually.
    I start it in compatibilitymode for Windows XP (Servicepack 3).
    Right-klick on desktop icon choose compatilbility, check first box and from the dropdownlist choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
    Until now  . . . . . . no problems.
    I hope somebody can use this too.
    P.S. When you start the hotsync prog it can last a little while before it appears in your taskbar.
    GOOD LUCK !!!!!
    Greetings,
    Jacques

    Do you absolutely want to use the slower BlueTooth connection, or would you rather use the USB cable as designed?
    Drivers are available now for 64bit systems.  See the top of the Windows HotSync board for "64 bit Palm Desktop drivers are here!"

  • Blue Tooth Tv as computer Monitor

    I have a Samsung LN46A550 new HD TV. I was wondering if there is a way I can use to Blue tooth on my iMac to use this as my computer monitor. I have an Air port if that could be used in anyway.

    No, you can't. Firstly, according to its specs, your new TV doesn't even have Bluetooth connectivity. Secondly, Bluetooth is a short-range, rather slow communications protocol. It is nowhere near fast enough for realtime transfer of HD video images, even if the functionality existed.
    Airport won't help either, as this is another wireless communications protocol your TV doesn't have.
    To use it as a computer monitor, you would need to buy an appropriate video cable to connect the Mac to the TV. Have a look at Page 11 of the for more info.

  • Blue tooth driver for windows 7 for samsung galaxy s5

    I was told by Samsung that they don't provide the blue tooth driver for Windows 7 for their Galaxy S5 cellphone. They said that the maker of the PC is responsible for that. I don't see any drivers for blue tooth devices of any kind being provided by HP, so I'm thinking that what the Samsung rep can't be correct. Nonetheless, I'm posting this post in hopes someone may know if there 1. is a driver and 2. where to get it. I have a HP Media Center m7050y (PX153AV) CTO Desktop PC that is running Windows 7 Ultimate. I of course have a blue tooth doggle in one of my USB ports and it is working correctly. I know this because I have other blue tooth devices running. Any help will be appreciated.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    You have a functioning  blue tooth dongle.
    Other blue tooth devices are working correctly.
    Samsung would have to provide blue tooth driver support. Or contact the blue tooth dongle manufacturer for assistance.
    Your HP PC shipped with Win XP. Blue tooth driver support/ hardware was not available when your PC was manufactured.

  • TA24778 iPad - dropouts when streaming music via blue tooth to sound devices (Boom Box etc.).

    Hello,
    I use my iPad as a central music store.
    But -when trying to stream music via Blue Tooth I get dropouts all the time.
    It doesn't matter how far away I am, or where I'm using it. It gets a bit better when deactivating the BT Keyboard (yes, shame on me, I'm using the old style way to hack text into the Pad...), but I still get dropouts.
    I checked everything, batteries are fully loaded, dis- and reconnect several times, reboot, etc.
    On my devices (Logitech adapter for my home-hi-fi, Soundbric) I get the same result.
    Any Ideas?
    (Sorry - I can only choose "Using iPhone" as category, although I chose iPad first... Do I need to understand this?)

    I'm not sure what you mean by "mixed with audio in Alsamixer". Can you clarify?
    With that said, my problem did mysteriously fix itself after some update (presumably to alsa). Unfortunately, I noticed it in passing one day while I was changing the volume of something in pavucontrol, so I don't remember the exact update that caused it to work. But yes, my current setup does work now: I can listen to audio through my DAC and use the Yeti for recording. However, I have found that use of the Yeti crashes Google Hangouts, although it works perfectly in every other program I've tried.
    As documentation, here is my current working setup (it is very similar to the above): in PulseAudio, the DAC is set to be a Digital Stereo (IEC958) output. The Yeti (called an 'Integrated Rate Matching Hub' in pavucontrol) is set to be an Analog Stereo Input. In the input devices section, I have the Yeti's volume set to around 58% (-14.31 dB), which is past the base volume a fair ways but produces decent levels for recording. The DAC's volume is set to 100% (0dB gain, the DAC takes care of the level). In alsamixer, I have the mic level for the Yeti set to 40.
    Edit: This is a long-time-later edit, but let me say that when you have multiple USB audio devices, what USB hub and in what order they are connected seems to matter a great deal. If you can't get your Blue Yeti to work, try moving it to a different set of USB ports (controlled by a different controller) on your motherboard. This magically fixes the issue for me.

  • Can two blue tooth headsets use the same iPad?

    as the header says can me and my wife using blue tooth head phone both connect to the same ipad to listen to music or a film?
    cheers
    pete

    The wireless Bluetooth technology used by the iPad allows for the audio signal to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3647. While you can normally use only one set of headphones at a time with the iPad, third-party accessories may offer a solution.
    For example, some users have http://science.opposingviews.com/use-two-bluetooth-headsets-same-time-15106.html with add-ons like a Kokkia multi stream Bluetooth transmitter (starting around $60 at the http://store.kokkia.com/adaptersdongles.aspx), which promises to stream the audio from an iOS device to two different headsets. Depending on your iPad model, you might need additional adapters to fit a multi stream Bluetooth transmitter to the tablet’s connection port, so you may want to do more research before you buy.
    Although you lose the freedom of a wireless connection, using two sets of wired headphones and a Y-shaped splitter for the iPad’s headphone jack is another way to share the sound. Some headphone splitters can be found online for around $5 or less.

    it seems that they will pair but as soon as the mac has connected it automatically dissconnects
    i was informed in the apple store before i bought it that it would be ok

    The USB port on the Time Capsule is used only to connect a hard drive.
    Connect your Mac using an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule if you do not want to use wireless.

  • Help connecting an LG phone using Blue Tooth to Macbook

    Hello
    I am having trouble connect ing my LG phone to my Macbook using Blue Tooth. I am using discover mode on booth devices, i get asked about the code number machine on each device, but on the macbook it says that there is a problem with my Audio Device and that I need to disconnect the headset,,I dont have one connected. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. thnx

    I can get them paired but when I select the lg device listed on my HTC phone it does nothing.  I want to connect them so I can transfer the pictures from my old device to my new device.
    Hi Cheryllb,
    Thanks B33, as you are correct that this cannot be done via Bluetooth transfer. There are, however, ways that Cheryllb can get this done. Cheryllb, do you have a memory card in your LG Voyager? If so, you can save the pictures to the memory card (just go through your pictures, highlight them, press Menu, then move to card or "external memory" is how it may be displayed). Then, you can remove the card from the Voyager and either use it in your new device, or transfer the pictures using a card reader and put them on your PC.
    To transfer Picture Messages from wireless device to PC:
    1.        Access photo from "My Pictures" and choose "Options."
    2.        Select  "Move" or  "Transfer."
    3.        Remove memory card and insert card and card reader in USB port.
    4.        Go to your file directory on the PC.
    5.        Transfer files to the folder of your choice.
    If you do not have a memory card, you are able to connect your Voyager to a USB Cable and transfer the pictures from the device to the PC. Once that is done, they will be in a file. You can then hook up your new phone to the PC with it's USB cable and put the pictures on the new phone, by dragging and dropping that folder into the folder for your new device.
    I hope this information is helpful and allows you to find a resolution to transfer your pictures from phone to phone. I do understand how important these pictures can be.
    Thanks very much and have a great day!

  • Desktop manager wont find Phone thru blue tooth

    I need help.
    When I try to connect my phone using blue tooth to the desktop manager (4.6.0.1.2), it doesnt recognize it. In the options menu the blue tooth boxes are not accessable to check. I paired up my phone with my computer and that worked using the pass key where you type in the code in your phone then your computer. It then says connecting to local service then installing modem and the blue tooth icon illuminates next to the computer time briefly then goes out. I bypass the advanced modem settings screen and it wants me to add a dial up number, name and password. As I do not wish to use my phone as the internet connection I click finish. My 8700 now shows in the window along with my mouse and headset. When I try to connect my phone it attempts to connect by saying opening port then it trys to dial by using the *99 and non existant name and password. I then get the error message. With all this said, is there any way to just connec my phone without it trying to dial up first?
    Note: it does connect thru the usb cable just fine.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You won't be able to transfer pictures and media through the desktop manager. It's main functions are backing up and syncing to Outlook yahoo, for contacts calendar etc. You can however sync through Bluetooth. (native drivers only)
    here is the link:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/dynamickc.do?externalId=KB04132&sliceId=SAL_Public&command=show&forwa...
    As far as media is concerned the quickest, most efficient, and easiest way is to plug the USB into the PC and BB
    (IF you have a MEDIA CARD in the BB), it will come up as a flash drive under windows explorer.
    Then you simply drag and drop your media to the card. In Bluetooth transfer, the BB takes only one file
    at a time, which is why I suggest the USB able.
    There is a media Sync program that is very stable, and is a stand alone system here is the link:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/features/media/mediasync.jsp

  • T61 - Blue-tooth device disappeared

    Hello,
    I have a T61 (7659-A96) and the blue-tooth device was available some months ago.
    Because I didn't use to connect other devices using BT, I don't know exactly when the device availability was over.
    Now, I can't find the device. At BIOS setup is not present the BT on/off setting. BIOS version is LENOVO 7LETB9WW (2.19 ) 06/06/2008.
    I don't know if this model has a independent BT card or if it is builtin motherboard.
    Thanks in advance.

    I've found the solution.
    I was expecting to find a Bluetooth on/off setting  in the "Network" screen of BIOS setup.
    But the Bluetooth was disabled at CONFIG/SECURITY/IO PORTS of BIOS Setup.
    After I change to "enable" the Bluetooth is working fine.

  • Blue tooth mouse doesn't work

    A logitech m305 blue tooth mouse does not work on 15" Macbook Pro - works on the 12" however.  Any suggestions for trouble shooting?

    Right, the receiver was plugged into the USB port of the computer that I was trying to use the mouse with.  And it worked on the 12" mbp and a mac desktop, but not the 15" mbp.  So, I am not sure about anything.  BTW, thanks for the Amazon picture showing the rf receiver.  I will try to download a driver for the M305 onto the 15" some day.
    Ok, it sounds like you have a handle on the situation. It's still strange that the mouse won't work at all on the 15" with the correct receiver installed. Usually the basic click and tracking functions will work even without special drivers. But, as you said, you do want to install the proper software for that mouse. Also make sure you try the reset button/process on the mouse. Once in awhile one of mine likes to be a bit finicky after I move from Mac to Mac, and I have to reset it (it "pairs" or establishes the connection between the mouse and receiver).

    Upgrading RAM and your HD will give you some performance gains, but depending on what you are doing, it may not be enough. Your best friend will always be processor speed. This has a direct relation to how many cores and the speed of the RAM.
    However, if you are unable to spring for a new computer, then the options of running more RAM and a biggger, faster HD should ruduce some bottle necks.
    Here is a site where you can check out what your computer can handle http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade They have some charts comparing speed gains with various components.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
