Blue vertical thin line at macbook pro screen

How to remove blue vertical thin line at macbook pro screen?

It's not likely that YOU can... it's MORE likely that you've a glitch with either your screen or your GPU. You need to take your machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them take a look at your machine. The diagnosis and any estimate for repair will be free.
Be prepared, though, if you don't have the extended AppleCare Protection Plan, to pay for any required repairs.

  • Black vertical bar with lines on Macbook pro screen Appeared out of nowhere

I was working on my computer late at night. Like always.
I went to bed, and left the computer on in it's screen saver , as I always do.
When I woke up I had a black vertical bar on the screen about 1 1/2 inch thick with some flickering lines next to it.
here is what it looks like: http://www.talkcitee.com/ourspaceimages//2coolcode/2coolcode.jpg
I don't believe this to be a memory problem, I can take snapshots of the full screen, and I can hook up an external monitor with no problem. Also restarded PRAM plenty of times, etc.
But this black bar appeared out of nowhere. As if one way my screen decided it was going to blow out on me out of nowhere. I've had this MacBook for 2 years.
Question is, do you think the problem is:
    a) the screen
    b) connection / short problem to the screen inside the macbook
I hope it's B , because they told me it would cost $800 to replace the screen which is stupid cus I can get a new macbook pro for less than that.
I think there is a connectivity problem with the hardware , possibly a short, or something messed up with the wires or pins that link to the screen.
I noticed after repeatedly opening and closing the macbook, there were some changes in the small flickering lines next the big bar, and some of them turned solid black.
Has this happened to anybody else before?

Usually what happens is that over time the cable comes loose from the back. This happens because the enclosure within the hinge housing is quite tight and the LVDS cable has little room to move around. Because of the frequent opening and closing on the lid, the cable starts to move out of place try opening and closing it a few times and push it back very gently. You might see the line disappear or decrease slightly.

  • Lines in MacBook Pro screen

I just got a heck of a deal on a brand new, 2011 model MacBook Pro 15".
    I got it for $168. No, that's not a typo. I got a brand new 2011 model for $168.
Long story short, customer bought it, saw this problem, and returned it. It got put in the back to get sent back to Apple, but the store forgot all about it and it sat in the back until today. They sold it for $168 to me
Anyway, what could the issue be? You can see in the picture it's white, but sometimes the lines are different colors and sizes, but it's always about an inch or so wide.
Also, would this be covered under warranty? I'm thinking no because it is a discontinued model, however, it doesn't hurt to ask.

It looks like an issue with the display or the internal connection.  Bring it to an Apple store genius bar for a free diagnosis.
    Ciao.

Hi, Presuming it's a New MBP, take it back and get it repaired under warranty.
If by some strange turn of fate you have an older first gen. MBP with the ATI graphics chip then may be read through and join this Topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1697470 You might also want to get on to bennettvonbennett mailing list (subject MBP ATI issues).
If it is a MBP with the ATI X1600 GPU I can recommend "Fan Control" to help with (but not cure) the issue/defect.
For all older MBP1,1 owners... keep talking to Apple... send feed back, join the petition, email Apple PR, if we all go quiet, nothing will happen!

  • The screen resolution in 1920x1200 dropped on my MacBook Pro 17". Seems like I have not the same pixels. There are also vertical, thin lines on the screen. Makes the screen look milky. Anybody knows what's going on and how to fix it?

Take it to an Apple Store or other service provider for testing.

  • How to type vertical line on macbook pro keyboards?

Please tell me how to type vertical line on macbook pro keyboards?

    (1) It sounds like you might be using a Spanish keyboard. You should specify this to begin with. Unless you do, the default assumption is that you're using a US keyboard. The advice you received is correct for the US keyboard.
    (2) To see how to enter any character available with your current keyboard, enable Keyboard Viewer, as described here
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh35878.html>
    (3) There is no "alt" key on a Mac keyboard. You are talking about the Option (⌥) key. See (search for "Alt key" in)
What's it called on my Mac?

Switch 101: On Windows, I used to...

    (4) My advice is move on from Fraise. AFAIK, it's dead. Try TextWrangler, which is free and more capable.

  • Translucent impromptu possible "hacker" message interrupts current session, locks MacBook Pro screen and demands that I restart by holding down the power button of my LapTop to turn it off first. Any thought? Could this be another way to mess with us?

I was listening to a YouTube video on the history of X15 rocket airplanes. All of sudden, out of the blue a translucent back message drops top down, stops the video, locks up my MacBook Pro screen and demands that I restart my lapTop by first holding down my power switch, then turn the lapTop back on. This has never happened to me before. The message was in black & white, and in about 6 languages: English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese. Does any one recognize what this might be?
The Computer turned back on just fine as if nothing had Now I am freeking out that they could be reading my key strokes or something. Could they have used this tactic to install malicious software on my computer by first taking away my ability to do anything about it being that I am not a software engineer? Can any one think of anything simillar? I reported this as a bug to APPLE the regular way, then cleared my Safari cookies, then run software update which returned nothing new as in " your software is up to date at this time."
    Can any one please help?
    A-NmN.

    Hi stedman1,
Thank you so much. This seems to make sense to me now. I was freaking out a bit that some hacker could be messing with my MacBook Pro. I will be monitoring this issue from now on as it has never happened before.

  • 2.2ghz macbook pro screen

Hi, my macbook pro screen cracked after 8 days. I bought a replacement screen brand new online. I have 2 questions, first my machine is the 2.2ghz macbook pro that was 1999.99 list price. Is the screen I purchased the correct one? its model number M9969LL/A and approximately how much labor time should I expect to pay for to re-install this?
Is it true that apple does not cover these? The machine did not drop or anything and there is no damage to it. There is just a black circle then a spider web of glass on the inside and then all the pixels have turned to colored lines.
Thanks and I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!!
    Steve

I have the Early 2011 2GHz Macbook Pro and I have the same problem too.
I switched out the logicboard a month ago and today the graphics just went distorted.
Any solutions? Now I'm thinking it is the Graphics Card.

  • The very top of my 13" macbook pro screen, above the browser or application frame, goes black sometimes and I'm unable to see the choices

the very top of my 13" macbook pro screen, above the browser or application frame, goes black sometimes and I'm unable to see the choices, any ideas?

    Back up all data.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    defaults delete -g NSFullScreenDarkMenu
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. You can then quit Terminal. Log out and log back in.

Unless you purchased the optional AppleCare+ extended warranty,
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for (USA) $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Cleaning MacBook Pro screens

Does anyone know if it is safe to use Kensington's Screen Guardian to clean a MacBook Pro screen? The product contains: Water, 2-Butoxyethanol and Ethanol. Also can this cleaner be used on an iMac and a iPod Touch screens. Thanks for your help.

Apple recommends against using any cleaner with alcohol or ammonia to clean any LCD screen. Those chemicals may damage the screen coating. The best way to clean a laptop screen is to use a microfiber wipe (such as those sold to clean eyeglasses) or a damp ( not wet) soft lint-free cloth. For more information, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3226
Butyl cellusolve, a component of Screen Guardian (according to their material safety data sheet), is neurotoxic among other toxicities, by the way, so I'd avoid it even if it weren't risky on LCDs.
    Regards.

  • Comparing MacBook Pro screen with Intel iMac

I'm wondering if anyone here that has a MacBook Pro has had a chance to compare its quality to another mac's screen. I've been working on trying to colour-calibrate my MacBook Pro using SuperCal, and I've noticed that the colour on the MacBook Pro is nowhere near as nice as on the intel iMac.
Obviously expecting a laptop screen to look as good as the larger iMacs is a bit much, but I was still very surprised at the difference in quality.
    Anyone else noticed this?

The MacBook Pro screen is not as bright or vibrant as any plug-in type LCD I've compared it to.
However, it is much nicer than any of my previous laptops (including an Aluminum Powerbook G4). It is significantly brighter, with somewhat better color.
It would be nice if the laptop had a better backlight that could turn on when plugged in, but that's probably up there with my wish for a 2nd processor that would turn on during plug-in as well...
    Cheers,
    Josh

  • Satellite M65-S9063 - Vertical white lines appearing down the screen!

    Hi all - any ideas...
Model M65-S9063 Approximately 3 weeks ago a vertical white line appeared down the screen, it's around a mil thick.
Then yesterday a second one has appeared, slightly thinner this time. They're always there even after a reboot! It doesn't look as though any video is being displayed as they're always white. I was wondering graphics card perhaps? Or maybe the LCD itself?
    Anyone seen this before??
    Many thanks,

    Hi!
You can simply determine the reason of this issue. Connect an external monitor the notebook and see what happens.
If you can notice the same error on the external screen, its a problem of the graphic card or display driver. If you dont have this issue on the external screen, you should go to an authorized service provider for exchanging the internal screen.
If you use a non Toshiba display driver you should remove it and test it with original Toshiba drivers.
I hope I could help you a little bit.
    Bye

  • Macbook pro screen dims after waking from sleep?

Does anyone know why my macbook pro screen dims when waking from sleep or waking from my screen saver? I can't get it to stop doing this. Thanks.

It sounds like I have the same thing happening. It's more like the colors are washed out, like there is less contrast. I have a hot corner set up for my screen saver. Once I activate the screen saver for a second and then deactivate it, the Macbook screen goes back to normal. I have a 30" Samsung 305T monitor set up as a second (main) screen for when I'm working at home, which is most of the time. I haven't had it unplugged from the Macbook since this started, so I don't know if it happens by itself. I do know that the Samsung looks fine when waking up from the screen saver at the same time.
I tried to find others with this problem in this forum, but got tired of looking through all the other posts that had nothing to do with this problem.
    Can anyone help us?
