Blue Yeti USB Mic not audible

Hi Everyone,
I plugged my new USB microphone into my MAC and recorded a track of vocals which worked fine.
But when I went to record a second track of vocals, the sound is not recording?
I can hear the sound through the headphones, but the sound is not recording to the track or garage band.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Gary,
I am embarrassed to say that I have been doing this support stuff for quite a while and have never opened up that utility. I don't support Midi Devices, so when I saw Midi in the name, I just bypassed it.
But you were correct, that fixed the issue. In the utility, the output tab was set to 44.1K instead of 48K, changed that to 48K and it worked perfectly, QT now captures at 48K and sounds good. I have not tested it in FCP 5.1 yet, but I assume that FCP will also capture at 48K, now that the Mic is set correctly.
Follow up question 1, the "M" slider (I am assuming that is the "Master" Slider you were referring to in your post) is not selectable on either the Input or Output side, it is grayed out, is there a way to enable that slider?
Follow up question 2, the Input side is set to Value = 0.53 and dB = 24.00 and the Output side is set to Value = 0.27 and dB = -18.00. With those settings, the test VO's I have run sound pretty good, but should I make any changes to the default Values list above (like make the input and Output side match) or should they be left at the default values?
I really appreciate your input and was hoping to find a way to set the properties of the Mic, but I didn't know that the "Audio Midi Setup" was the place to do that.
Thanks a lot!
Kalagan

  • Blue Yeti USB microphone not working in ALSA/PulseAudio

    Hi all,
I recently bought a Blue Yeti USB microphone. It is supposed to require no drivers for Windows and OS X, and so far, it works well under Windows, but I cannot seem to get it to function on Arch Linux.  As fair warning, although I am relatively experienced with Linux, I don't know much about the internals of ALSA/PA --- up until now, it has just "always worked", so this is my first real foray into the area. I've tried for many days, with no success, to get this thing working.
So, let's start off first with my configuration.
I have a few audio devices:
An on-board audio solution that I don't typically use. For testing, I have connected an old, crappy pair of headphones, but normally I keep this disabled. It has one capture device. (Analog stereo [or 5.1/7.1/etc]  duplex)
An external DAC that is connected via USB and is output-only. So, no capture devices on that. (Digital/IEC958 output)
The Blue Yeti itself, which is connected via USB and supports output (it has an internal DAC) as well as input. So, one capture device here. (Digital stereo output and analog stereo input???)
The HDMI-out stuff for nvidia, which I never use
Here is the output of "arecord -l":

If the output of "aplay -L" is needed, let me know, but it's not all that different from arecord -L.
    Here is my /etc/asound.conf:
    defaults.pcm.rate_converter "samplerate_best"
    pcm.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    hint {
    show on

    ctl.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    # vim:set ft=alsaconf:
I don't remember where the bulk of that came from; maybe it was installed like that or maybe I put it in there. Here is another useful command showing non-commented-out/non-blank lines in the pulseaudio conf:
    $ egrep -v '^;|^#|^$' /etc/pulse/*.conf
    /etc/pulse/client.conf:autospawn=no
    /etc/pulse/daemon.conf:exit-idle-time=0
    /etc/pulse/daemon.conf:default-sample-rate = 192000
So, there's not much I've done there. Here's the contents of /proc/asound/cards:
    0 [Audio ]: USB-Audio - USB2.0 High-Speed True HD Audio

Honestly, I think that's about all of the configuration info I can give. Here are some screenshots of pavucontrol, though, in case you are not yet sated: http://imgur.com/a/ngyLl
Now, on to the debugging stuff. First: everything except Blue Yeti recording works. The external DAC works, the on-board audio (both input and output) work, using the DAC in the Blue Yeti to play music/monitor the microphone works (so it works as an output). The only thing that doesn't work is actual recording from the Blue Yeti itself.
When I try to record from the Blue Yeti with parecord -v, I get very strange behavior. Essentially, the "latency" of the microphone measured is exactly the same as the time it has been recording. That is, if it has been recording for 5 sec, then the latency is 5000000 usec. Also, if I try to record something in Audacity, I get no result except for a message box that says "Latency Correction has caused the recorded audio to be hidden before zero. Audacity has brought it back to start at zero." Also, pavucontrol doesn't show an input volume bar for the Blue Yeti, as in the above screenshots, whereas it normally will for microphones that are getting input. The Yeti is not muted, either, so it should be picking up ambient fan noise and such.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is there some configuration error I've made? Typically, this sort of stuff simply works out of the box for me, so I am somewhat stuck on what to do. Could it be a driver-level bug?

I'm not sure what you mean by "mixed with audio in Alsamixer". Can you clarify?
With that said, my problem did mysteriously fix itself after some update (presumably to alsa). Unfortunately, I noticed it in passing one day while I was changing the volume of something in pavucontrol, so I don't remember the exact update that caused it to work. But yes, my current setup does work now: I can listen to audio through my DAC and use the Yeti for recording. However, I have found that use of the Yeti crashes Google Hangouts, although it works perfectly in every other program I've tried.
As documentation, here is my current working setup (it is very similar to the above): in PulseAudio, the DAC is set to be a Digital Stereo (IEC958) output. The Yeti (called an 'Integrated Rate Matching Hub' in pavucontrol) is set to be an Analog Stereo Input. In the input devices section, I have the Yeti's volume set to around 58% (-14.31 dB), which is past the base volume a fair ways but produces decent levels for recording. The DAC's volume is set to 100% (0dB gain, the DAC takes care of the level). In alsamixer, I have the mic level for the Yeti set to 40.
Edit: This is a long-time-later edit, but let me say that when you have multiple USB audio devices, what USB hub and in what order they are connected seems to matter a great deal. If you can't get your Blue Yeti to work, try moving it to a different set of USB ports (controlled by a different controller) on your motherboard. This magically fixes the issue for me.

  • Yeti USB mic not recognized

Hi, I'm new on this stuff
well today I bought the Yeti USB microphone but it seems that is not working and is not recognized by any usb port on my iMac
I did just as the manual said and I quote it:
"1. Plug the microphone into your computer’s USB port using the provided USB cable.
    2. From the main Apple menu, select the “System Preferences.”
    3. Select the “Sound” icon.
    4. Now select the input tab and select “Yeti Stereo Microphone.” "
When I plug the mic the mute button turns on like for a second and then its off
also the Yeti Stereo Microphone does not appears...
I would thank you if anyone could help me out

If you have followed the directions exactly, it may be that the unit is defective.  Return it and try another one.
Let us know how you make out,

  • Blue Yeti USB mic is SUPER loud!

Just bought this so hoping it's operator error, but even with mic gain turned all the way down, it pegs in the red. Played with Audio Preference settings to no avail. Any suggestions or is this mic too hot for GBand?

For those on a Mac that are still having this problem (me), open Audio Midi Setup from your Utilities folder and check the settings for your Yeti in there.
I found that mine was automatically turned up by 20db which is what was giving me such awful distortion. Bringing it down to about 6db on each side seemed to be the magic number, and I can of course use the knob on the mic to fine tune that.

  • I have three Blue Yeti USB Microphones, and when I try to create an aggregate device in Audio MIDI on my MBP it lets me select two microphones but not the third. I need all three for a podcast, any solutions?

I have three Blue Yeti USB Microphones, and when I try to create an aggregate device in Audio MIDI on my MBP it lets me select two microphones but not the third. At first I thought maybe the third microphone was just defected or something but I tested the mic individually and it works fine. It'll let me use two Blue Yeti's and another microphone but not three Yeti's at once.

Ive had 2 identical USB AT2020 mics connected at the same time on both macbook pro and macbook Air.
The "Yeti" mics, are, lets say undesirable, and low to mid computer consumer mics.

  • USB Mic not recognized

My internal mic sounds like crap - originally it was fine - now I am getting a horrible high pitched sound when I try to record in iMovie 08.
I've adjusted the input volume - no effect.
I bought a Blue Snowflake USB mic and it's not recognized at all.
    Any suggestions?

All that has been done - I dusted off my old windows machine and the mic works on that one. The manufacturer says that it works with Mac OSX...
I'm afraid that it's possible that the Macbook can't power the mic.

  • Kernel Panic when using Garageband with Blue Snowball USB mic

    *HI ALL,*
*I purchased Mac Pro recently about 3 weeks ago. I am on the latest updates including the recent firmware update. However whenever I use garageband with external USB mic(Blue Snowball) my Kernel Panics and OS freezes and forces me to Power On again. It happened 20 times so far in few hours.*
*I opened garageband first time today after bought this external mic from apple store. I did not use garageband without this mic plugged into USB, I only used garageband with MIC plugged in and in couple of minutes to 5 minutes of using garageband the Kernel Panic occurs. Need your help please. Here is the message I get after login again which I reported consistently to Apple. Any immediate help is appreciated. I use iMove, iPhoto and other apps without any problem. Harddisk verification went o.k.*

I've been getting a number of kernel panics when using USB Mics with Skype, though I have not experienced any crashes when using Garageband.
The crash report cited the AppleUSBAudio driver as the culprit. Here's the set up:
    MacBookPro Core2 2.66 15"
    Mac OS X 10.5.2
Blue Snowflake USB Mic, Blue Snowball USB Mic
    Skype (latest rev - 2.7.0.257)
    AppleUSBAudio.kext version 2.5.6b3
Seems to be a lot of crashiness with USB Audio in 10.5.2 - let's hope we see a patch soon

  • Blue Yeti Pro Mic recognized but not working

I just recently got a Blue Yeti Pro and I can't get it to work on my Mac. There is no sound coming out of it. It only seems to work when I plug in the headphones. The red light is on, I've tried restarting my Mac, plugging and unplugging the mic, updated my OS, switching usb ports. Nothing seem to work! HELP!!!

  • My Mac Mini isn't recognizing my Blue Yeti (USB) microphone.

I've had both Mac mini & Blue Yeti for about a year. They both individually work perfectly fine, but it wasn't until recently I decided to use the mic on my mini.
When I plug my Blue Yeti microphone into the USB port on the back of the Mac Mini, the light on the microphone turns on. In which indicating that the microphone is on. Yet, when in applications such as audacity, garage band, and reaper it will not recognize the microphone.  Disabling me from recording at all. (I also tried Mac preferences via audio, to see if it appears there. Unsuccessful.)

Yes, when i go to System Preferences>Sounds>input the only thing that appears is
And also all the ports work, ive tested it out with my iphone charger.
How do i look up the system report ?

  • Both internal and USB mics not working

Hi there, all. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Starting last night, I have been having issues with microphone use on my iBook G4. Neither the internal mic nor my USB headset mic (Altec Lansing AHS302USB) are accepting input.
The internal mic's failure doesn't surprise me, as I have heard about the delicate nature of the wire connecting the internal mic from its position on the display down to the main computer. It's the USB mic that confuses me, since USB mics are what everyone seems to recommend that people use when the internal mic is on the fritz (thanks to other mics not working with Mac due to the line-in thing). Also there is the fact that I have used this headset with this computer for over a year with no significant issues until now, with both mics simultaneously failing.
There doesn't seem to be a problem with the headset's wires; I am still able to hear audio through the headphones quite well, and when I load my audio recording program (Audio In) and Sound Preferences, I can see the occasional blip of sound recognition when I move the USB adapter portion around in the port. These blips even occur when the pink microphone jack and headphones jack are unplugged from the adapter, so this suggests to me that the problem lies not with the wires, but somewhere in the USB adapter, port, or the computer itself.
I'm leaning toward the computer itself, since it just seems odd that both mics would just happen to stop working at the same time. That and the fact that audio output still works through the headset, and the USB ports work fine for other USB devices such as my external drive and iPod.
I have tried restarting, resetting the PRAM, and repairing permissions with Disk Utility. Nothing's working so far.
Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong?
For reference's sake, I took a recording of the sound that results from jiggling the USB headset adapter in the port. It's very quiet, so you may need to turn up the volume a little bit to hear it. Again, these are the ONLY sounds that the mic is able to pick up currently.

Just to chime in here - I wonder if it's down to the software: I've recently updated to 10.4.10, and the internal mic seems to have stopped working.
One positive effect of the change to 10.4.10 is that my Griffin iMic no longer flips to 8-bit, 22khz recording when I plug it in.
Having said that, I really like to get my internal mic back up and running again.

  • USB Mic Not Recognised

    Hi,
I'm having problems getting logic pro 8 to recognise my Behringer C-1U USB Mic. The Audio Device set-up sees the mic as soon as I plug it in, it allows me to select it as a device to record sound, but when I look in the Audio section of logic it only shows the default 'Built-In Microphone' and 'Built-In Input'. It works perfect in Garageband, but not in Logic! I'm confused and any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    Phil

  • USB Mic not working in Premiere Pro CS6 for Mac

So I've been editing in Premiere Pro CS6 on a mac for 6 months now.  I have to do a temp VO for a project and I thought I'd try the Narration feature in the mixer.  For some reason my USB mic doesn't show up in the Audio Hardware so I can't pick it.  The same mic shows up in the Mac Audio Settings and even shows up in Audition.  I've been having to use Audition but was curious to see if anyone out there has gotten a USB mic to work in Premiere Pro on a Mac.  Would be a really cool feature if it worked.

Some USB mics work fine, but many do not. It can depend on the exact mic, or might require a different ASIO driver (maybe something like ASIO4All?), or different ASIO setting, to work.
    Good luck,

    Hi D.A.,
Sorry you couldn't find the doc easily, but happy you are set up now.
I did place it in our FAQ here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1417831?tstart=0
I will let the tech writer know about the need for having this info in the documentation. Good idea, thanks.
In the mean time, you can file a feature request to make USB mic setup a lot easier here: http://adobe.ly/feature_request
    Thanks,

This is not unexpected.  USB audio is iffy.
Use a normal mic plugged into the Mic input on your rig.

  • USB mic not working

    Hi All.
I'm new to Archlinux and I have the following issue with my USB WebCam (Microsoft VX-1000) : I can't get no sound out of it.
Both the video and audio devices are detected and proper modules are loaded (gspca and snd-usb-audio).
    Video works fine.
arecord -l give the following results :

    which looks ok to me.
But when I tried to record something (arecord -D plughw:1,0 -d 5 test.wav) then play it back, I can't hear anything.
I even tried to cat /dev/dsp1 into a file then play it back with aplay. Nothing.
All this tests were run while in command line with no DE running (to prevent conflicts with ESD and the like).
After 5 hours of googling, I can't find any solution. Help me, pleeeaaaase.

I mic is unmuted, that was the first thing I checked. And I ran camE during the test to be sure that the webcam is on (green led on).
Another strange thing is, when I run alsamixer, I can only lower the mic capture volume, not raise it. Curious. It works ok in gnome-alsa-mixer though. I guess their might be an issue with the device's control interface, due to a problem with the alsa driver (my webcam not being supported yet).
I really can think of anything else.
Anybody has another idea... please... before I lose the rest of my hair...
