Bluethoot headset and pulseaudio

Hi all,
I installed bluez + blueman and when I connect my BT headset, it is shown up in the pulseaudio input/output list; but if it goes out of range of the laptop (or if I explicitely disconnect it using the icon in the notification area), when I try to reconnect it doesn't show up again in the sound preferences (even if Blueman says it is reconnected, in fact).
I found a similar issue here:
http://www.pubbs.net/200904/fedora/2819 … whide.html
but I'm not observing any kernel oops (2.6.35-ARCH).
This is the relevant part of "pulseaudio -vvvv" output:

It's worth to say that, except for the first connection, if I kill the PA daemon and restart it:
- if the headset is already connected, it is addede to the sound preferences;
- if the headset is disconnected and I try to connect, it doesn't appear into the sound preferences after the connection;
- the same happens using gnome-bluetooth instead Blueman, so my feeling is that this is a PA issue.
Very strange behavior! Any comment?

My main comment is 'works here'. Sometimes I have to turn off/on my BT headset to make it reconnect, most often its just fine. In your case it seems the headset sends a signal that's unexpected (or doesn't send an expected signal). Suggest you contact the pulseaudio ML. It'll probably have to be cross-posted to BlueZ ML, but wait for them to tell you that (ie. I'm a noob who's not sure).

    hi mate,
have you checked if there are any firmware updates available for your device via Nokia Suite on your PC? If there is, please update to the latest version offered. If that doesn't work, then try restoring your phone to factory settings, or if that doesn't work, then to re-install your current firmware via Nokia Suite.
Failing that, you will need to take your phone to your local Nokia Care point for them to inspect. to locate nearest Nokia care: http://nokia.com/support

There is probably a red light on inside your headphone port, indicating that the analog/digital switch in there is stuck in the digital position. Insert a headphone plug and wigle it around, especially in the horizontal plane, as you insert and remove it several times. This will usually unstick the switch and restore normal operation. If it doesn't, the machine will need to be repaired.
This has been a fairly common problem, but in most cases it is easily cured as described above.

As long as the profiles are different (ex. HID vs AD2P) you will not have any issues. But say if you try to use 2 keyboards at once, it won't work. Or 2 headsets at once. Your scenario seems fine.

  • My SB Audigy 2 card can't use headset and musicamplifier at the same time

Hi, i just bought a SB Audigy 2 [D400] and i have downloaded drivers and programs. I run Windows XP SP2.
The soundcard works fine but it is very very annoying that i physically have to change the jack in the green=line out jack from headset to musicamplifier when i want to use my musicamplifier and change back the jack in the green=line out from musicamplifier to headset when i just want to use the headset/headphones .
In the shop they told my that i can connect both amplifier and headset at the same time and then with creative software control whether there is sound in the headset or in the amplifier. But i can't simple get it work.
I tried to use the green to the amplifier and the headset/speakers in the black (line out 2) and then with creative speaker settings softeware choose headphones but still the ampliefier receive the sound and no sound in the headphones. Why? In fact no matter what configuration i try the headphones doesn't work.
But if i change the jacks so headset is in the green line out then only headset is working and the amplifier doesn't work no matter i put it in sort=line out 2 jack or orange=line out 3 jack.
Can somebody here tell me if it is possible or not to connect both headset and external amplifier and control by software which to play? and how?
    please help, thx.
    Michael

If you can have an ASIO compatible music playing system, then it might be possible to have system like you wish when using Creative Audigy 2 card. Since ASIO bypasses Windows Audio System, you can use both 'drivers' (ASIO - WDM/MME/DS) side by side.
Say you want to play a game (using headset /w mic) and someone other like to listen music at the same time. With ASIO capable system you can output your music for example to "center L/R (stereo) channels" and same time output sounds from other source (using MME/DS/WDM drivers) to normal output channel (Front L/R). Only thing is, you need to set your speakersystem to 4 or 6 (depending which other channel you're using) (and for better 'balance' to adjust "angle" on THX console. You get the THX console by installing Audigy 2 Zs software).
    Try for example http://img332.imageshack.us/img332/463/djs9mo.jpg[/img] width="406" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" >
    Another option:
Say you want to play music through external amplifier and play game online with your headset + microphone (eg. others but you listen the music, you play games)
    --> try free http://img332.imageshack.us/img332/4589/tbp7rz.jpg[/img] width="406" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" >
If you use ASIO on BeatPort Player you can select L/R individually from the list(s). Same rules as described earlier.
= You can play from 2 different sources simultaoneusly (ASIO + WDM/MME/DS) to two different outputs without disturbance. The other (WDM/MME/DS) source is set 'automatically' output to (Audigy) "green" port, and the other (ASIO) to "black" or "orange" port (as set).

  • Upgrading to libpulse-4.0-5 and pulseaudio-4.0-5 broke audio system

After upgrading to the version of the packages mentioned in the title, sound simple stopped working altogether, and trying to open pavucontrol gave me the message:
    Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Downgrading to libpulse-4.0-2 and pulseaudio-4.0-2 solved the problem for now.
    Any other solution?

  • Mpd and pulseaudio

    Hello all,
I am trying (so far unsuccessfully) to set up mpd with pulseaudio. I enabled mpd.service, mpd is started when I boot up. But as soon as I try playing something back with (g)mpc, I get the well known "problems opening audio device".
Before anyone asks, both mpd and pulseaudio are running under my own UID. The problem seems to be that mpd does not know how to talk to the session bus that is used by pulseaudio. This makes sense, as mpd is launched before the session bus (which is launched by startx). Therefore, mpd does not know the correct DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS and can't connect. Is there anyway to fix this behaviour? I would like to have the possibility to launch a dbus session bus before I launch mpd via systemd in such a way that the value of DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS is broadcasted to the other daemons.

    [jacob@BlackWater ~]$ mpd
listen: bind to '0.0.0.0:6600' failed: Address already in use (continuing anyway, because binding to '[::]:6600' succeeded)
this is not actually an error. It just says it bound to your ipv6 interface before it could be bound to ipv4 interface. Define your binding statically in mpd.conf with
    bind_to_address "127.0.0.1"
daemon: cannot init supplementary groups of user "jacob": Operation not permitted
you are running mpd as user, altho you should be running it as root
if you want to run it as user, make sure to remove the user line from mpd.conf
    problems opening audio device
I can only guess here. You are saying you have pulseaudio. Did you configure the pulseaudio output in mpd.conf?
if you do so, make sure to comment out the alsa output. If you want to use the alsa output with your pulseaudio server, make sure you have pulseaudio-alsa installed

  • Should my iPhone 1 (iOS 3.1.3) with Bluetooth 2.0 (Handset HSP?) work with wireless earbuds with BT 4.0 and the Headset (and Handsfree, A2DP, AVRCP) protocol? They pair and connect; status bar looks good. But audio always comes out the speaker. Thx.

Should my iPhone 1 (iOS 3.1.3) with Bluetooth 2.0 (Handset HSP?) work with wireless earbuds with BT 4.0 and the Headset (and Handsfree, A2DP, AVRCP) protocol? They pair and connect as expected (with a PIN); status bar looks good and shows Bluetooth active, and I even see the iPhone displays the battery levels of the wireless earbuds. But audio always comes out the speaker. (If I plug in wired headphones into the headphone jack then audio comes into the wired headphones, as expected.) I have rebooted the iPhone; I have had it forget about the wireless earbuds, and repaired and reconnected; I have reset all network settings. Thx in advance.
PS: I understand that more recent versions of iOS have a way to choose where audio output goes (speaker, headphone jack, Bluetooth device). Does this older version of iOS? I could not find an option or setting.

I've noticed this lately as well, with my iPhone 4. I couldn't confidently pin it directly on any particular iOS update, but my iPhone used to automatically connect up via Bluetooth with my Prius's handsfree feature, and now it doesn't. I work with a CE-based device at my job, with Bluetooth capability, and I used to test out that feature by having it discover my iPhone. This no longer works either.
What I have found (not really a solution, but it does work and may be a clue for Apple) is that if I simply go to the Settings app then the General -> Bluetooth screen and let it sit there, it will pair right up with my car within a few seconds. Bluetooth is always on, and always says "Now Discoverable" at the bottom of the settings screen.

  • HDX 16 Headset and Mic problem in Vista64

    Good afternoon,
I have a long-standing problem with my e-dimensional AudioFX headset and my HP HDX 16, vista64 laptop. The issue is:
I cannot hear myself speak into the mic from my headset. ie. no sound is being sent from the mic back into the headset or external speakers. Everything else works just fine. My ventrilo partners can hear me and I can hear them. I just cannot hear myself.
When I plug the headset into my older Windows XP Pro machine, it works perfectly. I hear all ambient sound from the mic in my headset.
This is really difficult to work this way. I have tried disabling the AndreaElectronics microphone enhancements but this has not worked. I have tried adjusting the recording and playback properties many many times and many different ways but still can't get ambient sounds to feed back into the headset. I am reluctant to fool around with the IDT Audio drivers/services.
Can anyone offer some guidance/troubleshooting help? I'm totally out of ideas now.
    Regards,
    Starsider

    Update:
I think I have found the solution but it was for a similar problem on a Dell machine. Here is the link to that forum:
    http://forums.techarena.in/vista-hardware-devices/865259.htm
I think the solution involves enabling mic monitoring in the registry but I don't know exactly how to do it. If there are any registry experts reading this, I would greatly appreciate your help. I am reluctant to make any registry changes per the instructions in the link above since that was for a Dell computer and my registry is slightly different from the instructions given.
My exact model is the HP HDX 16 running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Model number X-16 1155CA.

  • Bluetooth Headset and Vista

I have a Samsung SBH170Bluetooth Headset, a T60 and Vista Ultimate operating system. The Computer finds the headset and it sends a test signal to the headset. How do I get sound from movies or streaming audio or music files to play in the headset. I don't see options to use the headset as a playback device
    Thanks
    Mike

Go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices (or whatever it is called in Vista), and change the output there.
Normally if it comes out of the speakers and you plug headphones in, it should automatically transfer to the headphones.
With BT I assume you need to do a little more work.

  • Problem since lollipop, headset and "smart" flip cover

    Hi,
Have some problem since upgrading to lollipop. First it was the headset that didnt wanna connect, but solved it with a factory reset on both the headset and telephone. But i still has a problem with the flip cover, guessing that with the update the config for smart connect (or NFC) was resetted. Now the problem is that the flip cover is glued with a sticker on the phone so i cant get it of to try and reconnect it.
The problem is that it does not longer interact with the phone e.g. when the flip cover is closed the phone screen would normaly ajust to the little screen on the cover but it doesnt, it just shows regular background.
Does anyone know a smart way to fix this?

I own the SCR24 smart style cover for my Z3 dual and indeed it's fixd to the back side of phone by sticker, but from my own experience you can carefully remove the cover by pulling it off slowly from the phone, and the sticker will be still functional to be glued again to the phone.
So what I suggest is: try removing the cover, reconnect it to your phone via NFC tag, then re-attach it to the phone.
Let me know if you tried this successfully.
A proud Sony User since 2002

The Apple BT headset? Did you press and hold the button for a few seconds? A set of rising tones indicates power on. The light only lights up when connected to the power cable (orange when charging, green when charged).
