Bluetooth 2.0 and phones

why aren't companies putting bluetooth 2.0 in their cell phones? i thought that 2.0 didn't use as much power and had a stronger signal... makes sense to me.

Just to clarify what Alexander says. The TRANSMISSION power is determined by the class not the version. Class 1 has more power than class 2 which is more powerful than class 3. So the range of class 1 is 100 m; class 2 is 10 m and class 3 is less than 10 m(I forget the exact figure but there are no class 3 devices around anymore). So you can have a class-1 BT version-2 + EDR module that has 100-m range and a class-2 BT version-2 + EDR module that is only 10 m range. I believe BT version 2 uses faster frequency hopping so the module is actually ON for less time than in previous BT versions. Being on less means the the consumed power is less, giving longer battery life.

  • Lost Ipod Remote, Bluetooth stability, slow and phone reboots with IOS4\3G

I just recently downloaded the 4.0.1 updated hoping it woud fix many of the issues I had after installing IOS4.0. Since installing the OS I have lost (I have verified these same issues on my wifes phone so it is not HW specific) the following functionality with my 3G:
    1) I can no longer start my Ipod from the remote clicker on my head phones. If the IPOD applicaton is running it will start and stop fine, but it used to start playing music even if the IPOD app wasn't active.
    2) Bluetooth seems very instable. I have had it disconnect occasionally during calls but can restore the connection if I select the device again.
    3) several applications take a very long time to load. If we don't reboot our phones avery 5-7 days, eventualy text and other applications will crash on launch until I reboot. THen the phone is snappy again for about a day. (memory leak??)
    4) 3 times on my phone and 2 times on my wifes phone while usingit (all three of mine have been using the built in text message app) The phone has re-booted (more than 50% full battery) I erased my text message history and no improvement/change.
    5) Google Maps takes forever to show my location on the map and initial guesses at my location seem to be off by 100s of miles (before it would narrow in on my location over the first 10 seconds, but it now takes 30-40 seconds and seems to not even know which side of the city I am on anymore...)
A few other things but not sure how repeatable they are, but the experience so far has been very frustrating... I have heard of other issues with IOS4, but haven't seen some of these issues. And now my questions..
    A) Is there a way to downgrade to 3.1.3 or other via I-tunes (don't want to jailbrake the phone) or know if/when and update will be available to address some of these issues?
    B) Is the iphone4 having similar issues (or is this 3g specfic)?
    C) Any tips to fixing any of these issues? (I tried turning off all notifications as was in one post but it didn't help as they are already off..)

Ha, true! But, you don't really need to update to 4.1 to do this. it's data management common sense. I'll bet 90% of the people that are complaining on this board, haven't reinstalled their OS on their laptop/computer in 2+ years. I do it every year to prevent OS slowdown.
When you move, don't you clean out your closet?
Back to the phone: I've been running this way for 24+ hours now, and I am THRILLED that my phone is fast, snappy, responsive to every screen and touch. I'm not afraid to open Google Maps and get a location and find a thing. I can use PadMapper now and find a home.
Every app that I need, I just keep adding, but I doubt I'll put the Vuvuzela, Mood Phone, Rainstick.....just stupid apps that I never open.
However, More Cowbell went back on. One can never have enough cowbell!

  • Since updating to iOS 5, my bluetooth and signal have been destroyed. Before the update, the phone worked perfectly, connecting to my bluetooth in car for both calls and music. Reception was also perfect. Now, my bluetooth doesnt work, and I cant be heard

Since I updated my iphone 4 software from 4.3.3/4.3.5 - bought brand new only 2 weeks before the update came out - to iOS 5, my bluetooth no longer works in me ford fiesta and when I ring people, they literally can not hear a word I say. It has nothing to do with poor signal areas as they are the same areas I was in with the same phone before the software update! i have even sent for a replacement phone and received a reconditioned phone (after paying excess charge - JOKE!) and the same problem occured when I updated again. I cannot believe there is no downgrade as this iOS 5 is a shambles and to be honest, I see very little difference in terms of apps and photos so i have no idea why apple are recommending this upgrade!
Is there anything I can do to improve the fact that nobody can hear me on the phone when I speak?!! Or are apple going to insist I keep a phone that is of no use to me if I can't actually use it as a PHONE!
    Please please help!

    Hi,
Thanks! I forgot to add, I have debonded and rebonded the bluetooth in car and phone and have carried out 3 restores on the phone in my ITunes. All to no avail. I have also jsut spent £40 on a lead from Ford that has made no difference too! I went to them today to request a software upgrade on my car as I though perhaps the lack of connectivity in the car was down to the car being behind the iOS5 software but was informed there was no need for an upgrade and this problem is purely an apple problem! Is there any way around the downgrade? Or are apple gong to resolve this problem at all??

I would also like this issue addressed.
I am using a Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and when it is connected to my iPhone 4, email and text sounds are not audible through the phone. The phone just vibrates when a new text or email is received.
I don't really care if it plays through the headset, but it should at least play through the phone. I tested the headset from a BlackBerry and the alerts play fine.

    I have to ask,
Are you making sure you are in park before attempting the sync?   The car won't allow you to do it in motion, whether or not you're the passenger.

  • Is there anyway to connect iphone to other devices via bluetooth.like nokia and other phones

Is there anyway to connect iphone to other devices via bluetooth.like nokia and other phones

    No
Bluetooth is supported for stereo headsets/speakers, handsfree telephone devices/headsets, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store, and tethering where provided by the carrier.
Other than this, it will not connect to any computer/phone/device.

  • How I got the Bluetooth Magic mouse and Aluminum keyboard to work in XP

NOTE: The following steps fixed my issue. I thought I would share what worked for me but I really don't ever visit these discussion groups. I used a combination of Sysinternal tools to isolate what was causing my issue and rectified it.
I couldn't for the life of me get the bluetooth magic mouse and keyboard working in a bootcamp'd windows xp. Here are the steps that I performed to finally get it to work. The assumptions are that you are running a clean XP build with SP3 and all windows updates installed.
    1. Using a USB mouse and keyboard. Insert the OS X install disc into the drive and run through the bootcamp drivers install. (These steps are outlined at Page 12 in the Apple Boot Camp Installation Guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/bootcampinstall-setup.pdf). Let the installers run per apple instructions in the bootcamp installation guide. At the end it will want to reboot. Reboot the system.
    2. After the system reboots login and run the Apple Software Update utility to update from bootcamp 3.1 to 3.2. It will run through a bunch of installers and ask to reboot at the end. Reboot.
    3. After the system reboots login and go to start=>run and type "services.msc" to bring up the services control panel.
    4. Double-click the "Bluetooth Support Service" to open the properties.
    5. Go to the "log on" tab and look to see what is set. If it is set to "NT Authority\LocalService" then click above it to change to "Local System account." Then click "OK." It will tell you the changes won't take effect until the service is restarted. No worries.
    6. You will be back in the main services control panel. Make sure the "Bluetooth Support Service" is highlighted and look up to the left and select "restart the service."
    7. Close all the open windows and then go to start=>run and type "control panel" and hit enter.
    8. Double-click the "Bluetooth devices" control panel applet and follow the Apple instructions provided on Page 18 of the guide referred to earlier. Start with the mouse first. Stop when done with the mouse and don't continue on to the keyboard yet.
    9. At this point my mouse was "installed" but did not show "connected" in the bluetooth devices applet. I then highlighted the mouse and clicked the "properties" button down to the right.
    10. Once in the properties of the mouse I selected the "services" tab. My issue before making the switch to "Local System" account for the Bluetooth services was then when I tried to click the check box to enable "Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc (HID)" I would get an "access denied" error. Now that the switch has been made you should be able to click that check box without error. Click OK after enabling.
    11. You will suddenly see systray (lower right of the screen where the clock is) saying that new hardware has been detected and enabled. Once this is all done you will see "connected" below the device in the Bluetooth applet. Give your mouse a go. It should be working now. Sweet!
    12. Follow the steps in the Apple guide for your keyboard. This should work too now. Sweet!
    Best of luck.

It depends on how far it is and how thick your walls are. If there plasterboard partitions and only 10 feet apart then probably.
If you have a mobile phone with bluetooth, then try sending the computer a picture of file from similar distances to that you intend using the keyboard, if it works then a bluetooth keyboard and mouse should.

  • I can't connect my iphone 4 via bluetooth with my car phone

I cant connect my iphone via bluetooth with my car phone. Bluetooth is switched on on the iphone and the car phone says ready for bluetooth telephony yet the phone just keeps on searching without connecting? Any ideas as Apple phone support doesn't start until 9am (not very accommodating for a company whose equipment runs 24/7)

    Car phone?

How do i u acsess my bluetooth settings thru my phone to change name etc. Also cant connect to any devices

What devices are you trying to connect to, and are they in pairing mode? Is the phone in pairing mode? The iPhone only connects to audio devices and to computers for tethering. You cannot use BlueTooth on an iPhone for file transfers to other phones or computers.

  • Using file manager and phone browser without email...

I have nokia 6021, PC suite version 6.5.12 and windows xp home SP2 and I connect the phone to PC via bluetooth.
I just want to be able to view my phone "contacts" (just names and phone numbers) on my PC, edit my "contacts" on the PC and then load them back to the phone, but I do not want to synch with my email program because that is full of other contacts stuff that I do not want to clutter the phone memory with.
The bluetooth connection seems to work fine, but......
When I set up PC suite it wanted me to synch with an email program, but I just by-passed that. However, I cannot see my contacts files on the PC using file manager and phone browser. Is the only way to do this to actually synch with another email program that I use purely for the phone contacts?

    ok guys, problem solved.
I just do a firmware update on my phone, though the firmware version was the same one, yet it's now able to back it up..

  • How to set up Bluetooth with iPhone and computer

    Hi there.
I am now the proud owner of a brand new iPhone 3GS 32GB and I'm in love...
I'm trying to set it up with Bluetooth. I used to be able to "Bluetooth" files to and from my computer with other mobile devices but I have difficulties with the iPhone. It won't connect. Anybody knows what I need to do? Cheers.

The iPhone _does not_ support Bluetooth file transfer. You must use the USB cable for syncing, or there are file transfer/storage apps in the App Store (Files, File Magnet, Air Sharing, there are lots) that use Wi-Fi.
On the iPhone, Bluetooth is limited to voice calls, music streaming to stereo headphones, and tethering (using the phone as a cellular modem). Tethering requires carrier support - O2 and Orange support it, Tesco does not.

  • Bluetooth, Headphones, iHome, and Podcasts

Please forgive me if there's a thread complaining of my problem and I just haven't found it.  I did a search of Bluetooth and Podcasts and none seemed to fit my problem.
Problem: The podcasts app is constantly backtracking my podcasts.
Circumstances:  1. I get in the car in the morning, my stereo wakes up and finds my iphone, or
                                  2. I get in the shower in the morning and my ION soundsplash picks up my iphone, or
                                  3. I put on a pair of headphones, listen for awhile to a podcast on my iphone and then unplug
For all of these moments, I get near identical issues:
The podcast app does not pick up where I left off and throws me back, sometimes by 20 minutes or more.  In the car, my stereo finds the app, and I hear nothing by silence.  I have to hit the :15 back button so that the app continues where it left off.  However, when I turn off the car, without fail, the app returns the counter on my podcast BACK to where I was listening to the podcast when I first got in the car.  For example, I get in the car and the podcast app starts to play at 20:37 into the podcast.  I drive 10 minutes to the store, and as I turn off the car and look at the app, everything looks fine.  However, once I press play, I get silence, so to alleviate this silence, I hit the :15 back button and the app returns me to where I began: 20:37.
With the ION splash: Once I turn the splash off, the podcast leaps back to the spot the podcast started from.
With a pair of Apple earbuds, I plug in with the headphones, and when I unplug, the app leaps back to where I started.
This is not a phone issue, because none of these sypmtoms take place when I'm listening to the music app.  This was not a problem in iOS 6 under the music app.  This is clearly a problem with the podcast app.
    ANY solutions?

There is no solution that works to talk on Skype via Bluetooth.  I have called and tested every which way for iPad.
I have 2 Bluetooth headsets - they work beautifully on Mac, Winblows and Linux for Skype calls.
They also work perfect for listening to music, on the iPad - I even hear incoming Skype chat and phone call alerts.
Click answer and the audio goes to the built in mic/speaker on the iPad.
I checked with Skype, Truphone, Fring - all have told me that Bluetooth is enabled in their code.
Sad that Apple could not add one line of code in iOS5 in order to enable audio and mic for the actual calls...
Skype broadcast their new iPad app. all over the web "now, with Bluetooth capability" - not one developer actually paired a device to see if it worked? Also sad...
Wired headsets do work.  I wish the iOS5 video were to show these people - and Siri getting tangled as the fight to plug in - like I do all day.
This is not a problem with the type of Bluetooth headset - it's a code problem in iOS.  TIRED of getting tangled up in wires, so that I don't sound like I am on a speakerphone.
If anyone has successfully made a skype call using Bluetooth - post -  prove me wrong.   As a recruiter, I read resumes and call people - I don't need an iPad for music. iPad = a Corvette with wooden wheels.
I had a wireless USB headset working but then Apple turned that off on their end too... 'the device you plugged in uses too much power' - camera connection kit - in the trash.

  • Can I use my headset for "sound-out" and phone mic...

I have an E51 and the headset that came with it. I would like to achieve the following during calls: To use the headset for sound-out (i.e. as headphones) and the phone mic for sound-in. The mic on the headset gives a lot of static and I would rather use the phone mic (girlfriend complains).
So I tried this: Under Tools>Settings>General>Enhancement, I set the Default to Headphones.
Still, when I connect my headset it says "Default Enhancement: Headset" and the headset mic is automatically used.
The default enhancement settings does not seem to matter.
Does anyone know if there is a way to solve this? Is there a way to manually switch between the headset and phone mics?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I am not using a bluetooth headset but a cabled one (that one that came with the phone for me -- I guess nokia skimped a bit here, not shipping with a bt headset).
I was recently told basically the same thing you are saying in a store, that it is not possible to use the mic for sound-in during a headset call. He also said that any cabled headset or even *headphones* will be recognized as a headset by nokia phones because they all have the same 3 connectors (right, left, mic) on the 2.5mm jack. Can that really be right?
So that means that even if I get a set of cabled headphones for my e51, I will not be able to use them for sound-out during a call?
    cheers
