Bluetooth and internet sharing from 3g phones (other than iPhone)

Hi,
I just got my iPad and since I have a HTC Touch Pro2 with T-Mobile I use to provide internet connectivity to my Mac Book Pro, I expected to be able to provide connectivity to my iPad when not in WiFi coverage. I was wrong. The HTC complains that the iPad does not support PAN (personal Area Networking) over BT and terminates the sharing. Pairing from the phone the phone states that there are no services "we are interested in".
I called Apple support over this and the official answer has been that iPad will support internet connectivity over bluetooth after the release of the iPad 3G. I asked if I could quote her on that and she said NO!
As somebody else has stated there are no apple official announcement on this.
Anybody has any additional info?
Thanks!

Bluetooth only supports headphones and keyboards at this time. Your only alternative, other than iPad 3G+WiFi, is to use a device which creates a WiFi hotspot connected to the cellular network. Both Sprint and Verizon have such devices. Verizon calls theirs MiFi, and a number of folks here have said it works very well. I have been using one for the past few days, and it has been seemless. It even goes to sleep when you put your iPad to sleep.

  • Best Compressor settings for HD720 16:9 to cell phone OTHER than iPhone?

    Hey there,
Does anyone know a good set of compressor settings for exporting HD720 16:9 29.97fps to a cell phone compatible format other than iPhone? Do most cell phones use an MPEG format? I guess I should start there. New to this one.
    Thank you,
    ed

There are different MPEG flavours and compression for DVD, mobiles or web often means creating some flavour of MPEG file. Even H.264 is an MPEG file. One of the most advanced.
Go to Compressor settings and look for a folder named Mobile devices then do a bit of your DIY (test, test, test).

  • After updating to the ios7, I'm not receiving messages from phones other than iPhones or I'll get them really late. How can I fix this?!

I receive messages from iPhones normally. But when I try to text people who have regular Android phones, I either get their messages really late or I don't get them at all. It makes talking to my friends extremely hard and I need help trying to fix it. At first, I thought it was the service of the college I just moved to until I realized my messaging worked fine here until I updated my phone to the iOS7. Somebody help me please! I have an iPhone 4S!

Deactivate then reactivate iMessage on your phone.

  • How do you receive iMessages from a device other than the iPhone they originally are being sent to?

I'm trying to receive iMessages from a phone other than my own. How do I receive them, I have both Apple IDs and both passwords but do not have current access to the phone I'm trying to get the iMessages from.

Do you have the other phone's Apple ID active in your iPhone iMessage setting? If not, then you would not get them. And, the person sending the iMessage would have to be sending to the Apple ID and not the phone number.

  • Internet Sharing from Macbook Pro to iPad???

Trying to get my wife's iPad to connect to the internet in a hotel that has wired high speed internet but no wifi.
My MacBook Pro connects just fine. So I turned on Internet Sharing for both Bluetooth and wifi (with WEP password for wifi).
The iPad connects to the Mac by wifi but says it has no internet connection.
With Bluetooth, it pairs OK. The Mac sets it up as serial port sharing (no other choice offered, but within that there is a choice of modem or RS232 protocol). But when I try to connect it connects momentarily then disconnects right away.
Any suggestions on how to let the iPad get at the internet in this situation?

    I am still not succeeding.
I just upgraded to a new Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion. Testing at home, where there are no issues around hotel ISP limitations and I feel pretty safe originating an open wifi network for a few minutes.
Set up Internet Sharing from Ethernet to Wifi. Used the Create Network option for wifi in the menu bar to set up an open unprotected wifi network whose name is the name of my Mac. I can choose any wifi channel from 1 to 11; it makes no difference.
I can see that network from my wife's iPad, and can connect to it no problem. But as in all similar tests since Snow Leopard came out, Safari in the iPad can't open any web sites; it says it is not connected to the internet. I can also connect to the MBP wifi from my iPhone, but if I select it, the 3G symbol still shows at the top of the screen because the phone cannot find an internet connection over that wifi.
Clearly some other people are managing to do what I cannot. Quite possibly some piece of third party software on my Mac is interfering. Little Snitch, for example, though it is currently turned off.

  • Messages not working while using Internet sharing from my iMac ... Any troubleshooting tips/approaches ?

I am connecting to the internet using the Internet Sharing from my iMac ...
The trouble is the messages in the Messages app are not sent when I am connected through my iMac ... When I key in a message and hit send a progress bar appears fills up till 90% and just gets stuck there and after a while the red exclamation mark stating the message was not sent appears ... Now if I connect through my wi-fi router or thether through my phone it works fine ... I can send / recieve messages ...
Similar points to note - Today when I tried to make an App Purchase - The security info screen ( new additon - http://isource.com/2012/04/11/iphone-app-store-security-info-alert/ ) popped up but I got a blank screen for the securtiy questions screen ... It was not loading the screen ... Some games the game center invite does not work through my Internet sharing (tried in MetalStorm) ... but works fine thorough wi-fi or thether ...
What could be the problem with my iMac s sharing? Any suggestions would be really useful ///  Thanx in advance
I am running Lion ... and I have updated to the latest Airport software ...
Only thing I tried was changing the DNS ... but that s not related right ?

Powerline adapters use your home powerlines (mains a/c) to connect your devices via ethernet to your modem, they're easy to set up and the they TOTALLY fixed my ATV problem, the problem seems to be with the wireless. I've been trawling through apple discussions, and did found a workaround to my problem https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4222883?start=0&tstart=0
but its just a workaround :/

  • How to Internet sharing from AirPort throuhg Ethernet

Hi! How to Internet sharing from AirPort throuhg Ethernet?
In System Preferences -> Sharing -> Services not found checkbox for Bluetooth Share Internet

I've not set up a Bluetooth PAN; a Personal Area Network. Modems and keyboards and such, yes.
My usual approach here would be a WiFi USB widget, or an embedded WiFi card or a PCMCIA / PC Card or a CardBus WiFi or wired network adapter, or a wired Ethernet connection for the Windows Vista laptop.
This to connect from the Windows Vista laptop to the AirPort, or into a wireline Ethernet (if there is one). And from there to the Mac Mini server running Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server software.
As for the PAN, I don't know. I don't have Mac OS X Server running on a box with Bluetooth hardware, either.

  • Help with LTE and Internet Sharing for BUIlD Lumia...

    Nokia,
I received the Lumia 920 when I was at BUILD 2 weeks ago. I followed the instructions and the phone mostly works on AT&T. I had a 900 so I assumed my LTE and Internet Sharing plan would easily transfer. Unfortunately that does not seem to be the case. I called AT&T gave them my IMEI number but it's not in their system and is not recognized as a Lumia 920. Because this is not an "AT&T phone" they wouldn't do much more to help. My data connection only ever shows 4G, never LTE as my 900 does and I cannot enable Internet Sharing even though it's on my data plan. I believe this is all controlled by the IMEI number.
Is there anything Nokia can do to help us? I can't imagine I'm the only one having this problem! I'm going to try again to see if I can get the issue escalated and maybe they can force the IMEI number to be recognized as a 920.
    Thanks!

Sorry I never came back to update. The fix, as has been noted already, is to make sure AT&T has your IMEI as another 920 or your old 900 so that you get LTE (which appears as "4G"). Then, in the Nokia Access Point config setting (under System Config), make sure LTE2 is selected, then install an additional keyboard (I tried both Spanish and Chinese). This will force an OTA update that seems to enable Internet Sharing. I had to redo it a second time when I updated my Nokia Access Point app last week, but I just re-installed a NEW keyboard and got Internet Sharing back. It hasn't gone away since, contrary to what others have experienced. For more info (and where I found the fix) see this XDA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971997

  • Airport and internet sharing turns off by itself

Hi everyone, I have an imac that I purchased earlier this year, and I use internet sharing to get internet for my ipod touch. Until a few months ago, this worked fine but now airport and internet sharing turn off every time I restart the computer and I have to turn both back on every time. Is anyone else experiencing this problem or know hot to fix it?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Download and install the v10.5.8 combo update available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
One of the "fixes" includes: - compatibility and reliability issues when joining AirPort networks.
After the installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • How do I use internet sharing from my MacBook Pro (static IP, only one DNS server) to my iPod Touch?

    Hey,
I'm connecting to the net using an Ethernet cable to my MacBook with the following network settings.
    IP Address: 192.168.y.{0-250}
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.y.x (where 'y' is the same number as in the IP address)
    DNS Server: 192.168.99.3
Apologies if I'm being unclear; not sure how much information it's OK to share publicly.
I then turn on Airport and Internet Sharing, and look for my wireless network with my 4th generation iPod Touch. However, the network appears erratically. I sometimes have to wait for a minute or two and keep refreshing before it appears on my iTouch. When I try to connect it just says 'Failed to connect to the network'.
I've followed all the steps in this article with several variations to no avail.
    http://lightyearsoftware.com/2010/06/how-to-set-up-internet-sharing-on-mac-os-x/
Can anyone suggest a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been banging my head against this for days.

On the advice of a friend I installed and ran a program on my MacBook called 'IPSecuritas'. This has stopped my wireless network from appearing and disappearing, but I still can't connect. Would really appreciate some help with this.

  • Problem in Internet Sharing from Ethernet to wifi

Whenever i go to Preferences > Sharing >  Click Internet Sharing > From Ethernet > to wifi and hit start. It actually creates my wifi access point but the problem is that i lose my internet connection from both, my mac from which the connection is being shared and my cellphone which is connected to it. I can not identify what is the problem, but i have tried it many times with or without the WPA2 personal key. Even after stopping the internet sharing, i have to plug out and then in my ethernet cable in order to connect to internet.
This problem was also on OS X mavericks with me last year, but it resolved automatically, i don't know how. But since when i have upgraded to yosemite, i can't make my hotspot connection working . Suggest any quick and effective way please.

    Same problem over here...
Additionally: if I unplug Gigabit-Ethernet-Adapter and plug it in again while Internet Sharing is still activated, the internet via ethernet works, but breaks down again about a minute later...

  • How to setup Internet Sharing from new MacBook Pro to iMac G4?

    Hey everyone,
I have a new 2011 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.7) and an iMac G4 running Panther (10.3.9).
The iMac doesn't have an AirPort card and the easiest way to get internet on it seems to be Internet Sharing.
I want to setup Internet Sharing from the MBP's Airport via ethernet to the iMac's ethernet, but am having trouble configuring the IP addresses etc to get the iMac to comply.
Your help and advice is much appreciated
