Bluetooth and Palm kinda syncing

This is weird. I'm using a Palm T3 and the DLink bluetooth dongle. I can sync applications, but not addresses and the calendar. All the right stuff is reported during the sync, but the address book and calendar are never updated on my computer.
BTW, this is a brand new install of the Palm Software.

I've done some narrowing down on this issue and it appears as though Apple takes over the calendar and address book conduits from the Palm desktop software. The Palm Address Book and Calendar Conduits are dumped into a directory called something like Disabled Conduits. The other conduits work as advertised, so it looks as though iSync is the culprit. Not much to do about this unless Apple can explain it.

  • 10.4.7 and Palm Hot Sync

Perhaps it is coincidence but when I updated to 10.4.7 via Software Updater, my Palm Hot Sync stopped working. Says it cannot establish communications link between Palm Zire 71 and Mac. Anyone else seen this? Any fix?

I have the exact same problem.
    Gee, do I hate this!
I used to be an "early adopter", but it was simply taking more and more time resolving strange (/somebody else's QA) issues, and so I gave up on this behaviour.
Nowadays, I wait for a while and only then install new software.
However, because of all kind of security issues, you have to install your OS updates quickly and there you have it!
Please Apple develop a Palm-like device quickly (and include a phone!) so that I am sure the combination of "stuff" I have is covered by your QA tests!
I'm willing to pay for it!
Though the Palm is still a great device, the software integration with the Mac is a problem that's getting worse year after year.

  • Palm Zire 71 and Will not Sync with information on old Laptop

I can't get the Palm Zire 71 software on my old laptop to sync with my new Cradle that I bought on eBay.  I get a message that says something like 'The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established.  Please check your setup and try again."
All my info is on the Palm Zire software on my old computer and I want to sync and move to my new laptop.  Please help!

  • Syncs between the Mac AB and Palm handhelds don't work???

I'm ready to change from Palm Desktop for Mac to Mac PIMs and use Missing Sync to sync. On a Mark/Space (Missing Sync) forum, I noted that people were complaining that they making changes on their Treo to a contact which was not reflected on the Mac AB after a sync.
The Missing Sync Lead Software Engineer indicated that Missing Sync doesn't do that because they don't "own" the sync - that is all handled by Apple's Sync Services, which is a multi-client architecture that many sync apps can be part of. Sync Services is much more in the way of keeping data around rather than OVERWRITING OR DELETING IT. Missing Sync "pushes" into Sync Services exactly what is on the device; it is up to Sync Services to determine what to do with the changes depending on its rules."
    1. If you are successfully syncing a Palm (and especially a Treo) with Mac PIMs (and especially if you're using Missing Sync), are changes (additions, deletions, changes) made on your contacts reflected on the other platform after the sync?
    2. Are the changes you make more likely to be successfully synced if they are made on the Mac PIM versus on the Palm?
    3. Is this same thing true for iCal (ie, changing an appointment by adding information) or tasks?
    5. Are there any workarounds or do I have to check my Treo and Mac PIMs everytime to make certain that all changes were successfully synced to the other platform?
    6. When I make changes in my Treo 680 contacts and sync it to the AB using Missing Sync, how do I know if the changes will be reflected in the AB? Am I notified on a log or by popup or do I have to check the Mac AB? I might make several changes each day in both the desktop or Treo contacts but I never make changes on both platforms for the SAME contact (except by error).
If changes made in one platform are not successfully synced to the other, why would anyone who syncs use Mac PIMs? This problem must be very limited.

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"?  There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.
    Read references for Home Sharing.
iTunes: How to share music and video - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688 - about Music Sharing and Home Sharing
Home Sharing Support page - http://www.apple.com/support/homesharing/
iOS: Setting up Home Sharing on your device - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 - "With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
The above can get pretty complicated.  You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

  • Gave up and bought Missing Sync for Palm OS

I finally gave up on Leopard ever being able to sync directly with my Palm Treo 650 and bought Mark/Space's Missing Sync for Palm OS ($39.95).
After an hour or so of experimenting with Missing Sync, I'm happy that my Treo and Leopard-loaded Mac are in accurate sync.
It's been very frustrating that Apple and Palm have not fixed this.

today the support person at palm suggested that i purchase missing sync if i wanted to use my leopard mac with the palm (she said they are working on a fix, but don't know when it will be out) -- so i am probably going to do that. how difficult was it to get missing sync to work?

  • Palm T|X and ical wont sync.

My Palm T|X and ical wont sync. I never had this problem with 10.4, but now that I am running 10.5.1 everything else syncs fine, except ical. I have reinstalled Palm Desktop and reset my conduit per Palm's recommendations, but still no luck. Any suggestions?

I have a palm tungsten E2 and I was able to sync with ical using Tiger and Palm's own hotsync feature, but not with Leopard. Check out markspace.com. They have a beta version that is the missing link. I am nervous to try a beta. I'm hoping that Apple will get their isync worked out.

  • ICal and Palm TX no longer syncing properly in 10.4.7

I have a Palm TX and have always been able to update the calendar on my Palm with the events in my iCal. Now it claims that the sync was successful, but not a thing has changed on either device. I doesn't matter what I choose in the conduit settings, they simply won't update each other, despite the fact that both devices say they did. I've tried resets on the Palm and such, but no luck. And there is absolutely no useful information on the Palm site. Even when you try to get Mac info, you are often directed to Windows articles and such. Everything worked until I updated to 10.4.7. Anyone familiar with this?

So I'm not the only one!!!
I have the exact same problem. I have a new MacBook, iPod, and Palm TX. I set them all up (using Missing Sync for the TX, and iTunes for the pod), and everything worked like a champ until one day I opened iCal and discovered it had dumped everything (ALL calendars), so I recreated the calendars & events (didn't have a backup yet), and since then, both Missing Sync and iTunes both show the old (now non-existent) calendars to sync -- not any of my new calendars are avaliable in either program's menu to sync.
I too have emailed MarkSpace (no answer yet) thinking it was originally a Missing Sync issue, but then discovered that iTunes was doing the same thing, so the problem must be in iCal? My updated Address Book contacts sync on both the TX and the iPod like a champ, so the issue must be with iCal I guess...
Glad to hea I'm not the only one who's run into this; thanks in advance for any ideas!

  • Bluetooth, 755p, and Palm keyboard

I have just bought a Palm keyboard (bluetooth) and it works very well with the 755p I just got. However, there are a few features that don't work (words run off the page in memo, and arrow keys right and left don't work but up and down do) - everything else seems ok - my question: for those of you who are veterans with palm devices, how long does it normally take palm to come up with a driver for it's own devices???? thanks

Well, in the case of the 700p, you're looking at at least a year before a patch/fix/update becomes available..
I've been very happy with the IR Universal Wireless Keyboard by Palm, since it leaves my Bluetooth connection free to connect to my cell phone for net access. (I realize that's not much help to your question though, sorry!)
I've heard this complaint several times lately, but have not seen a solution yet!

  • Windows 7 and Palm m500

I have read other messages on this board, but I still cannot get my m500 series Palm to sync with my 64-bit version of Windows 7.  I have tried using XP mode, but my device was not recognized under the USB option on the virtual desktop toolbar.  Same problem with the Aceeca drivers - my device was never recognized.  I use a crade/cable set up to sync the Palm to the computer.  Any ideas???
    Post relates to: Palm m500

There are others using the m500 with the Aceeca driver. I need more details on your problem. What desktop version are you attempting to use. Have you attempted to use more than one version of the palm desktop and not done a clean uninstall of the previous versions. Here is an example of what should transpire while installing the Aceeca file if you already had the palm desktop 4.1.4 installed.
1: Download the Aceeca driver and unzipp it.
2: Turn on and hook up your device to the computer.
3: Go to the device manager and look for palm, there should be some kind of yellow symbol next to it. This will only happen if your m500 is hooked up and powered on.
4: At this point you right click on palm and update driver, choose browse for and find the Aceeca driver and select and install it.
5: When it installs it will show up in device manager as ACEECA Handheld Device.
I have no idea what is going on unless you tell me and you may have none all of this or not. Be persistent with this problem. Most people have success on the first try others not. If you have the Aceeca driver installed and are using palm desktop 6.2.2 you may be able to hotsync but none of the info will show up. In this case you will need another free app to get the 6.2.2 to communicate with your legacy device. So give us more info and more detail.

  • Isync nokia 6620 and palm tungsten T2 with OS 10.4

I use isync to synchronize iCal and Contacts to these 3 devices via bluetooth, but when I create a new appointment on my Palm, it is synced with my computer but not with my phone. The appointment is only put on my phone's calendar the next time I run iSync. This seems to be the only problem--creating appointments in any of the other directions flawlessly syncs across all three devices. Also, creating or editing a contact on any of the three devices also syncs fine. Does anyone know if this problem can be resolved?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
What you perceive as a problem is actually a feature - a consequence of shifting synchronization of all servers, applications and devices to the SyncService framework. Now, iTunes is configured to interact with the truth database maintained by SyncServices to synchronize iPods, .Mac Sync handles a similar interaction to synchronize with .Mac, and iSync is relegated to handling mobile handsets and Palm handheld organizers and smartphones.
In the same manner, applications like iCal and the Address Book interact with the SyncServices framework, as do many third-party applications like MySync, the Missing Sync for Palm OS, DayLite, and others.
If your mobile handset is not connected via Bluetooth or USB, or iSync is not running when you initiate a synchronization event using the HotSync icon, or the button on your cable or cradle, then your device will not be synchronized until it is 'attached' and iSync is launched. This update occurs because the SyncServices engine is aware that the device exists and was not available during the prior event. As soon as becomes available, the update takes place.
If you want your mobile handset to be simultaneously synchronized when you synchronize your Palm device, then you must do two things:
    • 'attach' it via Bluetooth or USB, and
    • launch iSync prior to initiating the HotSync

  • Addressbook Bluetooth and iSync - Get numbers off phone to AB

    Greetings,
There were many topics on this after a search but I couldn't find an answer I could understand. Forgive me if I am a little slow.
I plan to buy the iPhone here in the next few days. My old Motorola RAZR V3 has bluetooth and works flawless by syncing AB with the phone by using iSync. However, none of the phone numbers from my phone (Which weren't in AB before) end up in my AB. Am I doing something wrong here?
I never used any type of sync before since I didn't need a media device but now I guess I do? Apparently iPhone has a new built in SIM card and I can't transfer my numbers if I don't do this?
Thanks.. Oh... What is really the difference between iSync and the Sync in addressbook? Everytime I click the bluetooth icon in AB it asks to pair then nothing happens?
    //Cheers

That happens if you've got your contacts stored on your SIM card in the RAZR. Transfer them to your phone, then they'll magically appear in address book. I've found as well that for some reason the bluetooth pairing in address book doesn't do much, iSync does though.

  • Short-sighted approach to Bluetooth and Wi-fi.

I've just bought an Ipad - which I think is a truly amazing bit of kit. However within 36 hours I've discovered some very basic shortcomings in the software design in respect to both Bluetooth and Wi-fi. I was so shocked at their absence that I ran these past the Apple Support team who confirmed my worst fears.
The Ipad Bluetooth will not work with my Blackberry 9000. The Blackberry pairs with the Ipad but the Ipad syncs with nothing. Given that Blackberries are probably the most used smartphone in the business community - this seems like a really serious oversight?
Wi-fi printing I'm told only works with Airprint 101 - but then is limited to a narrow range of HP printers. Why? I have an HP Photosmart 3310 which is wireless and can accept wireless connectivity from any Windows based PC. I did evetually find a messy solution to the problem which I'll detail because I'm sure there are clever enough people working at Apple who might just be able to fix it better!!
You need to create a directory in the Programs Directory called 'Airprint'. You then need to download the three files that Airprint 101 uses and locate these in the directory. As soon as you rum 'Airprint.exe' your Ipad will show you any printers that are attached through wi-fi. However you must keep the directory with the Airprint files open because as soon as you close it - the printers disappear.
I improved the situation slightly by creating a task in the Task Sceduler to run when the PC opens and which automatically runs the 'Airprint.exe' file. Now all I have to do is to ensure that my Windows PC is on befire I use my Ipad!!
There has to be a better way than this and I feel it detracts from the Ipad as a potentially super piece of kit.
Perhaps someone from Apple would like to look into this and give some feedbasck? Thanks.

No. It doesn't work with any cell phones.
The iPad Bluetooth works with only with headphones and keyboards.
Wi-fi printing I'm told only works with Airprint 101
Dunno what *AirPrint 101* is. AirPrint was incoporated into iOS 4.2.1
but then is limited to a narrow range of HP printers. Why?
Besause printer manufacturers have not updated their printer firmware to speak "AirPrint". It is up to them to make their printers compatible, not he other way around.

This has nothing to do with Apple. It's somebody hack to get iPads to print through a computer.
AirPrint does not talk through a computer.
It talks directly to the printer on the network.

  • E-mail and Exchange Active Sync

Planning on configuring E-mail in your Xperia phone? Or do you experiencing problems syncing your E-mails? If yes this might be the topic for you.
Below you’ll find some guides on how to setup E-mail sync and troubleshoot any problems.
    POP3/IMAP
POP4/IMAP E-mail accounts are the most commonly used. This guide will show you the steps of configuring your E-mail manually if your E-mail server doesn’t support auto setup. Please note that the Next button won’t be lit if you have typed an incorrect E-mail address containing characters or symbols that are not supported.
    Configuring POP3 or IMAP E-mail
Go to the E-mail application and enter your E-mail address and password. Now press Manual setup.
Chose the kind of E-mail server your provider is using. If uncertain check this with your E-mail provider.
Under Incoming settings enter your username, password and server details. If you’re uncertain about these details contact your E-mail provider. But in general your username is the same as your E-mail address but some providers may use a specific user name for your account.
Here you can also set if the server should delete the E-mails if you delete them in your phone. This setting is by default always set to Never.
Next step is Outgoing settings. If your E-mail provider also has an SMTP server you can enter the details for sending E-mails here. This normally requires a sign-in on the SMTP server. If yes, check the Require sign-in box and enter your E-mail address and password. As above if you’re uncertain about any of these details contact your E-mail provider.
If your E-mails provider lacks an SMTP server you can check if your network operator provides an SMTP server and use their details. Using your network operators SMTP generally doesn’t require sign-in.
Now it’s time to set how and when to check for new E-mails. Set and check the options you desire.
The last step of the setup is to enter an account name and your name (signature).
    Troubleshooting POP3/IMAP E-mail
First make sure that you have a working Internet connection in the phone.
You can download Internet and MMS settings for your phone by going to Setting > Xperia > Internet settings.
If you have a working Internet connection but still not able to connect to your E-mail server or sync your E-mails check that no Proxy server within your APN settings may be blocking this. You can check this by going to Settings > More (Wireless & networks) > Mobile networks > APN or Access Point Names > Your Internet APN. Check if any details are set for Proxy and Proxy port. If yes you can try to delete them (temporarily) and save the APN. Now check if you’re able to connect or sync with your E-mail server.
You can also verify suspected Internet connection issues by trying via a Wi-Fi network instead.
    E-mail disappearing?
By default our E-mail application is set to only mirror the server. So if an E-mail on the server is deleted it will also be removed from the phone at the next sync.
    Syncing sent E-mail?
This is not possible on POP3 configurations. To be able to sync sent E-mails in the phone you must have configured an IMAP or Exchange Active Sync account.
    Problem sending E-mail?
If you’re not using the same SMTP server as network operator in your phone you might experiencing problems sending E-mail via mobile networks. If this is the case you can connect to a Wi-Fi network to send E-mail or check with your SMTP provider if the outgoing port can be encrypted.
If none of the tips above helps you, you can try to download a third party E-mail application from Google Play store. This can be easy way to rule out where a specific problem may be located.
    Exchange ActiveSync
Our Xperia phones come with the built-in Android native client for synchronizing your corporate E-mails, calendar and contacts. Here are some things worth double checking if you would experience any problems with Exchange sync.
Begin with checking your sync account details and if you haven’t configured the Exchange ActiveSync account yet see the instructions bellow.
    Configuring a Exchange ActiveSync account
Go to the E-mail application and enter your corporate address and password. Then press next.
Don’t worry if the setup might fail at this point because most Exchange servers don’t have auto setup enabled. In this case just press Manual setup. Please note that the Next button won’t be lit if you have typed an incorrect E-mail address containing characters or symbols that are not supported.
Now our E-mail application needs to know what kind of account you want to configure. Press Exchange ActiveSync.
This will bring you to the incoming settings screen. Enter domain\user name, password and server address. If you’re uncertain about your details contact your IT department to check which credentials to use. You will also need to know if you should accept all SSL certificated or use a client certificate.
When all details are correct you will have to setup how and when to sync. So enter and check the options you desire.
When you see this screen the setup is complete.
If your Exchange server requires certain security settings you might see the following pop-up after finishing the setup. If this is the case you must approve the security update in order to sync E-mail, calendar and contacts.
Pressing OK will give you a screen showing you what permissions you need to give the E-mail application. These permissions/ security settings are set from the Exchange server and depend on your corporate IT policy.
    Troubleshooting Exchange Active Sync
    ActiveSync protocol version
You can check which Exchange ActiveSync protocols that are supported by your phone model in its white paper. http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/whitepapers/
Compare this with your server to make sure they’re compatible.
    “SERVER REQUIRES UNSUPPORTED SECURITY FEATURES”
If you get the error message above your Exchange server is using security settings which are not supported by the Android native Exchange ActiveSync application. Which security settings that your phone model supports depend on firmware version and phone model. If your company runs on security settings that the Android native mail application doesn’t support and you don’t plan to alter the security settings, an alternative is to download any of the dedicated Exchange ActiveSync applications from Google Play store.
    New meetings don’t sync?
If you have entered a new meeting in the phone and it doesn’t sync make sure that the meeting has been put into the correct account. When creating a new meeting in the calendar application make sure that you’ve chosen your ActiveSync account as calendar when creating the meeting.
How to use GAL (Global Address List)?
In most of our models you can access the GAL by opening the contacts application and tap the search icon. This will search the Global Address List on your exchange server. Our mail application also searches GAL when typing something in the To: field. Unfortunately we don’t have any default support at the moment for browsing the complete Global Address List.
For more information about what is supported by our Contacts, Calendar and E-mail applications please see this link (Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z). Or this link (Xperia Z1, Xperia Z ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact).

Are you sure that your account is really configured for the ActiveSync protocol? Because we've seen this occur only when using IMAP with Hotmail/Outlook.com.
I suggest that you make sure that the account is configured as POP3 or EAS. Or use their own dedicated app.

  • My iPod Classic 160GB is recognized by computer, and goes through sync process, but still has old stuff...

My iPod Classic 160GB is recognized by computer, and goes through sync process, but still has old stuff...
I feel like there must be an issue with the library location, but I don't know how to correct that.  My Dad recently wiped my computer and deleted Windows XP and installed Windows 7.  I don't know what he did, but my iTunes library is still intact it seems. However, I've added quite a few podcasts that I'd like to sync to my iPod.  When I connect it, it goes through the sync process, but ends quickly and says its safe to disconnect.  None of the new podcasts are on there though.
Also, there was something really wrong with my iTunes account.  When I went to buy something from the store, it wouldn't accept my password, and when I went to reset it, it wouldn't recognize my birthdate and month (I had the correct username).  I ended up creating a new account and purchasing a song.  This time, it did sync the new song onto my iPod, but not the podcasts I'm trying to sync.
As far as the library location, is there anything particular that has to be included in that library in order for it to be recognized by iTunes when you sync?  Awhile back (before my Dad worked on my computer), I had changed the folder location to my external hard drive, but in researching, I saw that I still had in another drive some folders with music that is currently on my iPod.  So it looks like I have some stuff on two different drives... Maybe this has something to do with it not syncing right?
I did check, and my Firewall doesn't have iTunes blocked.
As you can see, I'm not very experienced with all of this... Sorry for the confusion.  If you are interested in helping me and have any questions, please let me know.
I'm hoping someone will be able to help me... I desperately want to be able to listen to my podcasts, as I'm a stay-at-home Mom of 4 little ones, and the podcasts are kind of an "escape" for me when the children are napping or playing. :-)
Thank you in advance for your help!

Oh my goodness!!  I am absolutely thrilled right now B-rock!!  I don't know how I missed it, but when I went back to change the setting like you mentioned, I noticed that the very top box that says "Sync Podcasts" wasn't checked!  I have no idea why... But my heart started to race when I checked that box and all of a sudden it started syncing all my podcasts!!  It's gonna take a long time (I have 385 of them!), but I am just so happy you helped me with this problem.  Thank you SO much!
