Bluetooth and Sound

Everytime I try to scan for a new device (my pc laptop for example), when scanning there is now a high pitched whine coming from the Mac Mini. It starts right when I scan or try to send a file. It's the first time I've used Bluetooth since the 10.4.5 upgrade a few days ago. The sound was not present before.
Anyone else having this issue?

  • IMac 2011 & 10.8.5 - now bluetooth and sound dead!

    Hello,
i upgraded my 2011 iMac from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 and after the reboot bluetooth and sound are gone!
So I did a PRAM reset, now I have the startup sound but still no sound or bluetooth under mac osx? Magic Mouse still works, but without scrolling and so on... So it seems 10.8.5 is really messed up!
    Any ideas to fix that?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test Bluetooth while in safe mode. Sound won't work. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Bluetooth and sound problem since upgrading to 10.9.1

Since upgrading to 10.9.1 I often have an issue with losing my sound.  The only way I can restore it is to restart.  It gets annoying to have to keep doing that.  Can anyone suggest a solution?
Also, when I connect to my bluetooth speaker I have no sound (restarting the computer doesn't resolve this).

Addendum to my previous question....the problem started when I upgraded to Mavericks - not just the 10.9.1 upgrade.  Can anyone help?

    Hello Mogulman46,
So what that means is when you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you may have an alert depending on the setting and how you are using your iPhone. So if it is set to Always, then that means that no matter what, your iPhone will not be notified. If it set to Only while the iPhone is locked, then that means that you will not get notification when your iPhone is locked but you will get notifications if your iPhone is being used. Also keep in mind the settings All Calls From can be set to certain contacts like Favorites, Everyone or no one. If you are using Do Not Disturb and you do not need it, then turn it off.
Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Hi i received the nano 7th gen for Christmas and I only seem to get 5 hours of battery life. I use the Bluetooth and Nike app so I expect more drain on the battery.  But I got more time out of running with my iPhone. Does this sound normal? I thought I should get close to 30 hrs of just play time alone.
ALso, my wife got me the Belkin armband to run with the nano but I sweat through the band resulting in the back of the iPod to get wet. Surely this is not good. Anyone have a recommendation for an armband that keeps moisture away from the pod?

iPod Nano are small and they don't use Wi-Fi access so you get less power time on a Nano. As for iPhone, since you got apps, Wi-Fi + 3G access, and everything else, they give you more time so you can keep using. Nanos are ment to listen to music, listen to radio, view your photos, watch videos (without Wi-Fi) and since you got BlueTooth on the nano, it counts as wireless access so it drains your battery faster.

Intel iMac; upgraded adobe flash; bluetooth keyboard no longer pairs but magic mouse still OK. With Bluetooth switched on the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink. Switch off Bluetooth and problem disappears and iMac works OK with plug-in keyboard and mouse

    Hi, Derek -
...the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink.
Sounds like Spaces is being activated somehow. With the wired keyboard and mouse in use, select the Exposé & Spaces control pane in System Preferences, click the choice in that pane for Spaces. See what the settings are. There are some activation settings in that pane - by default, F8 activates it.
It could be that the bluetooth keyboard has some stuck keys and is activating Spaces; or that the activation command has somehow been reset to something that the bluetooth mouse, or bluetooth itself, is triggering.

  • Bluetooth headphones sound terrible

I just purchased a pair of Philips SHB7000 bluetooth headphones and they sound absolutely terrible when paired with my Lenovo Yoga 10 tablet. Worse than an AM radio. But when I use these headphones with my PC or my Galaxy tab or my HTC One phone (all via bluetooth), it sounds great. When I try other bluetooth headphones with my Lenovo Yoga, they sound fine as well. It is this particular combination of this headphone with this tablet that it is unlistenable. Ironically, I bought these headphones specifically so I could watch videos and listen to music on the Lenovo Yoga, which is the one combination of device and headphones that does NOT work.
Any ideas why only this combo has a problem?  I asked Philips and they were completely unhelpful and pointed the finger at Lenovo.

Thanks for finding that older post.  That's really disappointing but sadly, not surprising.  I have to agree with you, my next tablet will definitely NOT be a Lenovo.  I've had a lot of problems with this tablet, this being the latest problem.  For example, I've found several apps that work with all my devices but not with the Lenovo.  Like I can't use it for Hangouts and Skype.  It also crashes a lot.  Often times I go to use it and it has shut itself off and I have to boot it.  And sometimes it won't charge because it starts draining faster than the charge, even when it is plugged into the outlet.  So this tablet is really quite useless and I'm looking for a replacement.
    Thanks for letting me vent...

  • Since I have updated to 10.7.4 my Bose Sounlink Bluetooth speaker sound very low

Since I have updated to 10.7.4 my Bose Sounlink Bluetooth speakes sounds very low.. OK with iPhone  and iPad

This happened to me exactly! What I did was I went into Audio MIDI and clicked on Bose Soundlink tab. You'll see 3 bars; master, 1 & 2. Max out all the bars and that should fix the problem. Hope that works for you.

Macbook air Wi Fi and sound stops every time it goes to sleep. i have to  restart it every time to use wifi and sounds. this started happening just after the latest upgrade to OS X. any reasons why its doing that and how to fix it.

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reinstall OS X.

  • PC Suite, Bluetooth and Windows 7 - Cannot autheni...

I had real problems getting PC Suite to connect via bluetooth to my 6300 phone.  I'm using a CSR type dongle which installed via plug and play using the Microsoft drivers.
I installed PC suite and followed the instruction to "connect a phone".   The phone was discovered and pairing attempted using the default 123 passkey.  I entered the passkey into the phone.  PC suite sat there for about 5 minutes, then came back with "Cannot authenicate phone".  This was tiresomely repeatable!
After much messing about I finally got the PC suite to authenticate the phone and its all working finel.  Here is what I did in case this helps anyone with the same problem:
    Install PC Suite.
From the Windows Start Menu In "Devices and Printers" the bluetooth device should be visible - Mine shows "CSR Bluetooth Radio"
Check the Bluetooth settings of the device "Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer" should checked
Still in" Devices and Printers", click on "Add Device", if the Bluetooth is working correctly, this should scan bluetooth and discover the phone (make sure the phone is set to visible or discoverable).
(An alternative method is to open Control Panel, under the "Hardware and Sound, there should be "Add Bluetooth device" option under "Devices and Printers". )
Select the phone and follow the instructions and pair the PC with phone.  This will involve entering the passkey generated by Windows
If successful the phone should now appear in the Devices list.  I now see "Nokia 6300" as a device.
The next steps are the ones I was missing: right click on the phone device and select Properties and then the "Services" tab
Windows should access the phone device for the services offered by the bluetooth phone.
    Check mark the following services:
    Dial-up Networking [DUN]
    Serial Port (SPP) 'COM1'
Serial Port (SPP) 'Nokia PC Suite'
    and click ok
Start up PC Suite and go through the "connect phone" procedure again and it should now connect successfully.
    Hope this works for you
    Chris

    Chris
    I do not have
    Dial up Networking (DUN)

  • Bluetooth and radio... one more !

    Hi,
I read several previous posts about bluetooth   radio problem.
i perfectly understand that the radio sound, being analog, cannot be sent through bluetooth, which require a digital signal.
I also understand that this would require an ADC between radio and bluetooth, and none is present for that purpose.
That being said, I don't understand why connecting the wired headphone will drop the bluetooth connection and why it is not authorized to establish a bluetooth connection while a wired headphone is connected.
I've a motorcycle helmet, that allows two connections at the same time : a wired one (unidirectional, analog) , using a standard jack connector, and a bluetooth one (bidirectionnal).  Both work perfectly. And the wired connection has a lower priority : if the bluetooth connected device starts sending sound, the helmet logically disconnects the wired connection until the bluetooth sound stops.
So, using an external radio receiver connected to the analog wired port of the helmet, I'm able to listen to radio, while still being able to receive phone call using bluetooth.
The ability to use my Nokia phone as the radio receiver, connected to the analog wired port of the helmet, while having the same phone connected to the same helmet using bluetooth, for normal phone usage, would be great.
For as far as I understand, this wouldn't require any extra hardware in the phone but only a software change to allow bluetooth connection while something is connected into the jack port of the phone. The phone is already able to distinguish between normal 3 connectors jack (unidirectional) and nokia 4 connectors jack (bidirectional). If an unidirectionnal device is connected the the jack port  then the phone could reasonably assume the connected device is only to listen to music, and allow the bluetooth connection to remain.
    Can someone comment ?
    Nicolas.

thx dude i know i have only 1 place to go now and for all the other ppl never buy this phone otherwise ull hve to go to nokia centre twice a month.........

  • My iPhone does not ring after 8.2 upgrade and sound gone on iPad

the sound as gone on my iPad and the iPhone does not ring when i get a call all after the 8.2 upgrade

    Hi pr1uk,
It appears your devices are experiencing audio issues. The following article provides steps which may help you find a solution:
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support
Follow these steps and test the sound after each one.
Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up.
If you can hear sound from the speaker, then the speaker works. Continue with these steps to find the setting or switch that's affecting the sound. If you can't hear sound from the speaker, contact Apple Support.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is set to ring. If you can see orange, it's set to silent.
    Restart your device.
Open an app that has music or sound effects. Adjust the volume with the volume buttons or the slider in Control Center.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth.
If there's still no sound, connect a headset. If you can hear sound through the headset, remove it and clear any dust or debris from the headset jack of your device.
If the device is in a case, make sure that the case doesn't block the speaker.
Use a brush to gently clear any debris from the speaker and Lightning connector (or 30-pin dock connector). The brush should be clean and dry and have soft bristles.
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
If you followed these steps and still hear no sound or distorted sound, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Bobby_D

Just picked up my 2010 Nissan Altima with Premium Sound Package (includes BlueTooth and USB). Palm P100EWW on Sprint.
