Bluetooth Apple mouse suddenly very fast

I've used the Apple BT mouse since getting the Mac mini G4 more than a year ago with no problems. It's set to the second highest notch in Systems Preferences. Yesterday the batteries ran out and I replaced them after switching the computer off. When I turned the mini on 10 minutes ago, the mouse movement was suddenly very fast. I had to bring it down to the second slowest notch and even then it feels faster than it was before. The lowest setting slows it down to an unusable crawl. I've repaired permissions, rebooted and switched the mouse off and on without changing its behaviour. I'm on 10.4.7 and up to date in OSX. It isn't a major bother. Just curious about what's going on.

Hi again, Glenn:
I solved the problem by changing the batteries. Very strange. I started fiddling with the mouse after the new postings on this thread and all of a sudden it stopped working. It would click but would not move. I thought I had a dead mouse since the battery gauge still showed 3 bars and there was no warning of low power. I changed the batteries and the mouse came back to life in its original condition. Funny thing is, all 4 batteries were from the same pack of 8 Duracell alkalines. If this was a battery defect, it's certainly the first time I've ever come across one. Now I find the "reduced" speed too slow and have set the tracking speed to maximum!

  • MBA won't connect to iPhone or Jambox via Bluetooth, but works with bluetooth Apple Mouse

MBA won't connect to iPhone or Jambox via Bluetooth, but works fine with bluetooth Apple Mouse. When trying to pair with the iPhone it says "The Bluetooth Network is unavailable. There was an error connecting to your device. Make sure the device is turned on and in range." When trying to connect to the Jambox it says "Bluetooth audio failed. There was an error connecting to your headset. Make sure it is turned on and in range. The audio portion of the program you were using may have to be restarted." The iPhone and Jambox pair together fine, and I have paired with both the iPhone and the Jambox easily in the past. I haven't updated anything - it just stopped working with these two devices. This is very frustrating.

  • Is there any way to find out how much battery life you have on you're Bluetooth Magic Mouse and Apple Keyboard on your Windows Partion?

I'm a avid gamer and for my gaming needs most of the games that I love require Windows ,but due to my constant clicking I drain my mouse battery very fast so I always have backups. Is there anyway I can check how much mouse battery I have left so I can be sure before I start a gaming session that I'll be fine? Switching back and forth between partions is an option ,but I find it as more of a last resort then something to do normally.
    Thanks in advance!

call them, tell them you NEED a new battery installed, and they need to tell you when they can do it.  That is their job to help you! Give pushback if necessary.

  • Apple Mouse (Bluetooth) Problem

I'm having problems with the tracking on my Bluetooth Apple Mouse and I was wondering if Apple has a manual on this mouse. There is at least one switch on there that I have no idea what it's about.
I've fiddled with it and gotten the tracking to work again. Other times it doesn't work. I have no idea what that switch is about.
Also, I've taken one of the batteries out and then back in again. Sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn't.
However, with a haphazard working of both of these things, and repeating them several times over again -- at some point I'll get it to working and tracking once again. I can't see any pattern to what is causing it to start working again -- other than just doing these things over and over again -- until it does.
Perhaps someone has the answers to the manual and/or how to get this tracking problem fixed.
    Best regards...

Unfortunately, this could be any number of things.
One likely suspect is the batteries. If you're using
rechargeables, try good new regular ones for a while.
The rechargeables are 1.2 volts, regular AAs are
1.5. Sometimes that makes a difference.
I've thought of using those, but I don't. What I do -- though -- is take out one battery when I'm not using it. I don't use the mouse but every few days (or so), and maybe for up to a week or so. So, that way I figure I keep the battery in good shape.
Even brand new ones sometimes don't work, or don't
work right. Try cleaning the contacts in the mouse,
and the top and bottom of the batteries with alcohol,
acetone (carefully), or the like. Try other new
batteries. I've had brand-new ones test fine with a
volt meter, but just not work. Never did figure out
why. Others in the same pack were fine.
Well, I do carry a set of brand new ones, so that I'll be ready to replace them. And I've tried the new ones before, to see if that was the problem. I still encounter this kind of "tracking" problem. Now, mind you the "clicking" always works okay. So, I'm getting a Bluetooth connection always. However, it's only the tracking (and not the "clicking") that is not working. It's always that way without any variation (if there is any kind of problem at all).
Interference is another common problem. Airport,
cordless phones, etc., can interfere. Try turning
off everything you can find for a while. If you see
improvement, turn one at a time back on.
Now, I'll be (usually) in public places when I do use the mouse (like Starbucks or McDonalds), so that might be difficult to isolate any others that are using Bluetooth. However, I do use another Bluetooth device (but not at the same time). It's a Bluetooth GPS receiver. It always works (although it's the only bluetooth connected at the time).
If all else fails, I recommend a double Scotch.
Won't help, but you may not care!
Well..., it's irritating, but I can usually get it to working in about three to five minutes by taking the battery in and out and/or flipping that switch back and forth. It's never been any longer than about five minutes for me to get it to fully working again. But, since I've seen several others here mentioning this problem, it seems to me that it's some kind of hardware or software problem -- especially since the Bluetooth connection is made and is functioning with the mouse clicks (always without fail).
    Good luck.
Thanks -- but say..., do you know what that "switch" is -- underneath the battery cover?
    Best Regards...

  • Why do I have to ask my MacBook pro 13" i7 to sync with my Apple Mouse at Start Up?

I've had my 13" MacBook Pro i7 for two days and have noticed that I have to go to the Preferences Panel to and ask the for the Bluetooth Apple mouse to be synced every time I start the laptop. I've never experienced this before with a Mac. I see nothing in preferences that addresses automatic syncing at startup.
    What am I missing?

Got it. Had to make it a favorite in the Bluetooth preferences. Clicked on the gear symbol in the bottom left corner and made it a favorite.

All computers are personal computers, a PC though is also "non-Apple" in common usage.
Mac also is platform and OS.

  • Apple bluetooth wireless mouse

My Apple bluetooth wireless mouse loses it's connection when my computer goes to sleep. Before SL I could wake my computer with my mouse. Now I can't because the mouse doesn't have a connection. It seems that sleep turns off bluetooth connectivity.
    I am using 10.6.1

I was having system crashes to, but after allowing "wake from sleep" everything was fine - for a while.
NOW my mouse works in that it moves the cursor around the screen, but it doesn't click. I've given up and gone back to my wired mouse. The wired mouse works just fine - it just has a tether.
I read that there is a new mouse in the works - maybe that will help. For some weird reason, I've noticed over the years that as new product is about to be introduced or is very new, my old product develops hiccups. I have a paranoid suspicion that software is updated to accommodate the new without understanding all the relationships with the old.
Try checking your crash logs and see if there is a consistent thread involved.

  • Mac pro and bluetooth/ m. mouse bt

    hi!
i bought a new mac pro last week! it's my first apple computer and i'm so exciting.. but there's a problem..
i have the bt and airport module built in, now i have also the bt apple mouse and keyboard.. the keyboard is ok, but the mouse is slow and skip in the screen... i also used an alternative driver/software but the usability is the same.. now i called Apple phone service and they send my a new kit bt (mouse and keyboard)..
i read that many people have the same problem.. well, what can i do in order to fix the bt problem with my mouse wireless?
there's a pic's guide? help me! anyway can i add a dolgle bt?
    thank's a lot guy!
    sorry for my bad english

Very interesting. After reading your post I was reminded of some threads I looked over weeks ago and forgot about, relating to this very problem.
I unfortunately assumed that I would actually need to open up the case and play with the wires just to disable the internal BT module so that I could connect a BT module.
Then I noticed that a few people seemed to be saying that they connected a dongle without playing with any wires, and things got better.
So I tried it! And it works!
I just plugged my D-Link DBT120 ( http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=34 ) into the back of the cinema display and the internal bluetooth seemed to instantly turn off and switch to the new dongle. Of course with that both the BT keyboard and MM disconnected and I needed to use the old wired MS mouse to get them connected again, but once they were they were at full speed!
The BT MM still isn't anywhere near as fast as the MS wired mouse but it's quite usable and many times faster than it was while using the internal BT module.
Here are a few of the other threads related to this problem:

@ imax05 - I'd recommend getting a separate BT dongle. They're quite cheap and fix the problem. I know, it's annoying having payed for an internal BT module but...

  • Mighty Mouse sudden scroll issues on Mavericks

My bluetooth Mighy Mouse (a little ancient, but still works well for me) was functioning perfectly till suddenly the vertical scrolling increased speed rapidly, followed shortly by the horizontal scrolling failing completely. This all happened after an episode of letting my battery die to the point of power down, me plugging in the Mac, giving it a few minutes to boot only to find everything very slow, then doing a restart. Upon start up, my Mac returned to being its normal speedy self, but this Mighty Mouse issue occured.
The settings in preferences -> mouse are ''lowest scroll speed'' and "vertical and horizontal" scrolling
I have reset the SMC and PRAM. This did nothing.
    Any suggestions???

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't know of that preference item.
But changing this did not help, in fact it seems to coincide with the System Preferences>Mouse>Scrolling (change one, and the other changes too). And changing this scrolling setting anywhere from low to high doesn't seem to change my current scrolling speed. It is unregulated.
I should also mention that I have two bluetooth Mighty Mice and one corded Mighty Mouse. All of these have super-fast vertical scrolling and NO horizontal scrolling.
Also, when resetting the PRAM, it is an obvious restart. When resetting SMC, is there any visible/audible cues that the reset has occured? I just want to rule these two possible solutions out.

  • How I got the Bluetooth Magic mouse and Aluminum keyboard to work in XP

NOTE: The following steps fixed my issue. I thought I would share what worked for me but I really don't ever visit these discussion groups. I used a combination of Sysinternal tools to isolate what was causing my issue and rectified it.
I couldn't for the life of me get the bluetooth magic mouse and keyboard working in a bootcamp'd windows xp. Here are the steps that I performed to finally get it to work. The assumptions are that you are running a clean XP build with SP3 and all windows updates installed.
    1. Using a USB mouse and keyboard. Insert the OS X install disc into the drive and run through the bootcamp drivers install. (These steps are outlined at Page 12 in the Apple Boot Camp Installation Guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/bootcampinstall-setup.pdf). Let the installers run per apple instructions in the bootcamp installation guide. At the end it will want to reboot. Reboot the system.
    2. After the system reboots login and run the Apple Software Update utility to update from bootcamp 3.1 to 3.2. It will run through a bunch of installers and ask to reboot at the end. Reboot.
    3. After the system reboots login and go to start=>run and type "services.msc" to bring up the services control panel.
    4. Double-click the "Bluetooth Support Service" to open the properties.
    5. Go to the "log on" tab and look to see what is set. If it is set to "NT Authority\LocalService" then click above it to change to "Local System account." Then click "OK." It will tell you the changes won't take effect until the service is restarted. No worries.
    6. You will be back in the main services control panel. Make sure the "Bluetooth Support Service" is highlighted and look up to the left and select "restart the service."
    7. Close all the open windows and then go to start=>run and type "control panel" and hit enter.
    8. Double-click the "Bluetooth devices" control panel applet and follow the Apple instructions provided on Page 18 of the guide referred to earlier. Start with the mouse first. Stop when done with the mouse and don't continue on to the keyboard yet.
    9. At this point my mouse was "installed" but did not show "connected" in the bluetooth devices applet. I then highlighted the mouse and clicked the "properties" button down to the right.
    10. Once in the properties of the mouse I selected the "services" tab. My issue before making the switch to "Local System" account for the Bluetooth services was then when I tried to click the check box to enable "Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc (HID)" I would get an "access denied" error. Now that the switch has been made you should be able to click that check box without error. Click OK after enabling.
    11. You will suddenly see systray (lower right of the screen where the clock is) saying that new hardware has been detected and enabled. Once this is all done you will see "connected" below the device in the Bluetooth applet. Give your mouse a go. It should be working now. Sweet!
    12. Follow the steps in the Apple guide for your keyboard. This should work too now. Sweet!
    Best of luck.

It depends on how far it is and how thick your walls are. If there plasterboard partitions and only 10 feet apart then probably.
If you have a mobile phone with bluetooth, then try sending the computer a picture of file from similar distances to that you intend using the keyboard, if it works then a bluetooth keyboard and mouse should.
